Trunks knew that something was wrong, but his brain was too fried to know exactly what that was. He felt someone shaking him and calling his name, but he couldn't keep himself conscious long enough to respond. He groaned lightly when someone hit him on the head to try and wake him up more. He wasn't sure where he was or what was going on. His eyes wouldn't open even though he wanted them to and it was starting to piss him off. He felt as if he'd been drugged and he couldn't come out of this haze.

He remembered hearing some screaming and realized quickly it had been his own when they turned the intensity of the machine up. They sucked the life right out of him as fast as they could. It hurt him physically and mentally. He was so tired. He just wanted to sleep, but he knew he had to wake up…why was it that he had to wake up again? Why couldn't he just sleep forever? The pain would be gone and he wouldn't have to worry about anything anymore. He felt his consciousness leaving him again.

But then he felt someone's lips on his.

His whole body reacted and he was instantly awake. His arm shot up and into her hair, holding her there. Crushing her to him. The cells in his body felt like they were on fire. With a single touch she had managed to bring his mind back. This was why he needed to stay awake. This was why he couldn't just give up. He opened his eyes slowly as they parted and whispered her name

"Amy…"

The duchess smiled at him, relief in her eyes and she pressed her lips against his for a moment longer. There were tears in her eyes when she pulled back and her lips trembled slightly.

"I was so worried," She whispered, her voice breaking a little. She kissed him again and then punched him in the shoulder.

"Don't ever do that to me again Trunks! Don't you dare! I was worried half to death! Ren and Jewls helped get you here safely and I'm not about to let you go and get into trouble again when they did so much to save you!" She went to hit him again, but he caught her wrist and tugged the other one down with his other hand, successfully making her tumble down on top of him. Their faces were only centimeters apart and she blushed with how close they were to each other. She momentarily forgot that there were other people in the room with them.

"I shall do my best to not get kidnapped and tortured almost to death again. I promise." He whispered and then smiled as he kissed her once more. He loved the way she felt against him. Her lips and her body. He loved her mind and her worry. He loved her. Unlike his father he had no problems showing his emotions. He got it from his mother.

When they finally parted he smiled at her and gently moved some of her hair away from her face.

"I'm so glad you're safe," Trunks whispered and held her closer to him. Thinking about how many times he had to watch her be tortured he just held her even closer. His anger levels rising with each second. She just buried her head into his shoulder and let him hold her. She was trembling slightly. They'd both been through a hell of a lot these past few days.

"Get a room you two!" Ren called out from over where he was sitting with Jewls. He was smirking slightly. He was joking with them as he attempted to put his arm around Jewls. She promptly hit his hand and glared at him. He looked at her innocently like he had no idea why she was hitting him.

"As soon as this is over, we will," Trunks smirked slightly as Amy blushed.

She got off of him and helped him to sit up slowly

"Now's not the time for jokes Trunks," She quietly reminded him. She looked more serious than he'd ever seen her, and more bereft of hope than he would have ever liked to see.

"You're probably right," he said and looked around. He saw Ren and Jewls sitting on the opposite wall. Then he saw Veala and when he saw Zale next to his sister he started to freak out and lit up his hand with ki.

"What they HELL is he doing here?! Get away from my sister!" He was too weak to move very quickly, but his aim was still as deadly as ever and everyone knew that.

Amy held him back and tried to calm him down.

"Trunks no! He's helping us!" She wrapped her arms around his middle and tried her hardest to keep him in place. Even though he was in a weakened state he was still stronger than she was. Trunks eventually got her off of him and over to his sister. He pulled Zale up by the collar and held him in place. He glared at him and his grip tightened.

"I come in peace!" Zale didn't put up a fight, in fact he held his arms up as if he were surrendering and braced himself for the punch he was expecting to get.

"Why. Are. You. Here." Trunks pushed him up against the wall a lot harder than was necessary. Zale groaned lightly in pain from the force of it.

"Look I don't like it either okay? I'd love for all of you to be locked away forever and for me to never have to see any of you again. Except maybe Veala, but that's a different story. I just want my father dead and I can't do that without some help. It was your girlfriend's idea, they were ready to kill me, but she asked for my help. Don't shoot me quite yet, I have been helping," he spoke quickly and closed his eyes again bracing himself, but instead of getting hit, he was surprised to have been put down and he slid down the wall until he landed on his knees.

He let out a relieved sigh. He didn't really fancy getting hit in the face by Trunks.

"So you're not going to kill me then?" Zale rubbed his head from where it had hit the wall and stayed on the floor.

"Just stay away from my sister," Trunks glared at him and then looked over at Amy. If she had asked for his help it must have meant she thought it all the way through. She wouldn't be rash about a decision like this…would she?

He went over to his unconscious sister and checked her pulse and breathing just in case Zale had messed with her in any way.

"She's going to be okay Trunks," Amy spoke softly as she went over to him and looked down at Veala

"She got knocked out, but she wasn't in that machine as long as you were, so she's going to be fine."

Trunks nodded and then suddenly felt weak so he moved to the wall so he could lean against it for support. He looked around at his resources. Amy and Ren and Jewls he could trust. Zale probably not, so he'd have to keep a very close eye on him. Veala was his twin and he knew it was her brilliant mind that had gotten them there together.

"Amy where are Goten and the others?" He asked still trying to think of a way they could get out of this situation. He could figure out from their location and the faint sound of sirens in the background that they had been chased here and Amy led them down here so they would be safe. There wasn't another way out so he was going to have to figure out some way to help them all get out alive.

It was Ren who answered him

"He was supposed to be with Veala. But it seems they got separated. And from what I've seen of him and her…he's probably freaking out because he can't see her right now," he sounded a little bitter.

Zale spoke next

"He and your grandfather were about to chase after me when I knocked her out, but my guards stopped them. I'm certain I heard him cursing and telling your grandpa to let him go. So I'm assuming that they retreated," the dark haired boy seemed very out of place in this group and Trunks wasn't sure he should listen to a word he said.

Veala started to come to and Trunks took her hand in his. He leaned down and pressed his forehead to hers and let out a breath.

"Come on Vey. I need you awake so you can help me. Please sis..."

She slowly opened her eyes and when she saw her brother in front of her she threw her arms around his neck. She gripped onto him like he was her lifeline.

"Are you okay?" She asked him in a weak voice. She heard him grunt and realized she was hurting him

"Sorry!" She exclaimed and sat up a little too quickly. She almost fell over but Trunks steadied her.

"I'm fine Vey. Worry about you right now okay?" he looked worried

She shook her head a few times trying desperately to wake herself up more. She looked around and when she saw Zale she moved backwards away from him

"What's he doing here?!" she held her hand up to show the Ki blast she was forming.

"Wow. You twins have the same reaction to everything," Zale mumbled and braced himself for the hit.

"He's helping us Veala! He helped get you here safely and Trunks, too!" Amy quickly placed herself between Zale and Veala. She sat in front of Trunks and Veala until the Princess finally calmed down and put her hand down.

"You're welcome," Zale muttered bitterly.

"Shut up! This whole thing is your fault! You have nothing to be thanked for. You may have helped a little bit, but the damage you've done far outweighs what you've tried to repair! If you really want to deserve a thank you then you have a fucking long way to go!" Trunks clenched his fists and glared at him. His eyes flickering colors for a few seconds before Amy put a hand on his arm

"Trunks…" she met his eyes and he looked away

"Please calm down, love," she whispered to him tilting her head so she could look him in the eyes once more.

"Trunks is right," Veala spoke up. Her eyes never left Zale.

"If you want to help us…really want to help then when we go fight your dad you'll be fighting with us and not against us. And when we win if you haven't betrayed us again maybe we'll thank you." She sounded doubtful and everyone knew that she didn't think it was possible for him to stay with them that long. Especially not after what he'd done.

"I hate to break this awkward session of dislike and no trust but I think we should be planning how to get out of here..." Jewls folded her arms and looked at Veala and Trunks with a raised eyebrow.

"Alright wonder twins," she sounded like she was mocking them just slightly, "get us out of here."

Veala and Trunks looked at her and then turned to face each other. They nodded and then smirked a little at each other. They were together now. This is exactly what the enemy wanted and they were going to show them exactly why they shouldn't have wanted it in the first place.

Trunks spoke up first

"Alright, here's what we're going to do…"

Goten was so far past the point of panic that it was starting to affect him physically. Veala had been taken. He hadn't protected her. Her grandpa had pulled him away before he could go save her.

They were currently hiding from guards just outside of the castle. The sirens were still going off and Goten was freaking out.

"They must have been caught. There's no other reason that the sirens should be going off. We need to act quickly," Goten started to walk towards the castle but the old King held him back

"Are you a moron? Why my smart little Veala is in love with you is beyond me!" The old man pulled him down and made him sit down

"What the hell are you doing? Veala is in there! I need to go get her out!" Goten tried to stand again, but a hand was there keeping him down.

"Goten calm down! The sirens are going off because they escaped. Veala is smart and if I know my grandkids they've found each other and are currently making a plan to take down the enemy from the inside. Now what we need to do is find out how we can help them without getting caught or in the way…" King Briefs started pacing back and forth and Goten felt a surge of anger go through him

"Why didn't you just let me save her?" His voice was quiet, but the old king could hear how upset he was.

King Briefs stopped pacing and looked at the young boy. He reminded the old King of himself. His mate was in danger, he didn't know where she was and he was panicking. He was upset that he couldn't protect her. As he looked at Goten he saw him start to tremble.

Black hair started to flicker to blonde and dark eyes went bright and blue as Goten thought more about his Veala. He needed to find her. He needed to kill whoever touched her. He needed her in his arms. He couldn't deal with the fact that they were separated right now.

The King put a hand on his shoulder to calm him down.

"I knew that they needed her alive. But they'd kill you if they caught you. I just didn't want Veala to have to deal with her mate being gone…like I have to deal with life without mine right now," he whispered his response and then looked up at the castle.

Goten's anger towards the old man evaporated almost immediately. He was just trying to protect his granddaughter. A look of realization came onto his face and he let out a deep breath.

He realized that he was Veala's weakness as much as she was his. If she wasn't near him all the training he'd ever done was gone from his mind and all he could think about was getting her back to him. He didn't understand it at all.

A few months ago this feeling hadn't been that strong. What was happening? Why was his need to be with her so much more prominent right now? He was going to die from the stress of this.

"What do you think we should do?" Goten asked the king in a quiet voice. He was sick of just waiting there. Even if they didn't go straight to save Veala he wanted to help somehow. He'd never been good at just staying in one place doing nothing.

After a moment in thought King Briefs replied.

"I think we should try and find out when my daughter and King Vegeta are getting back…because maybe they'll be able to help us."

Goten nodded and then stood up.

"Then let's get a move on," He said and started walking the opposite direction of the castle.

"Where are we going?" the King asked as he caught up with Goten.

"Well I know where a secret bunker is and there's a transmitter there we can use to get a message out to the King and Queen. Veala left her little device thingy there. It makes it so the enemy can't track where the signal is coming from or where it's going," Goten explained casually.

"…device thingy? Really. What does my granddaughter see in you? You must be really strong or sensitive. Something that balances out her genius…"

"Hey I'm smart when it comes to fighting! I just don't do the science stuff," Goten scowled lightly but kept walking.

The forest was quiet except for the faint sounds of sirens in the background. It was getting lighter and Goten knew if they didn't get there before the sun was completely up they'd be spotted so he picked up the pace a little bit. As they reached the base Goten stopped the old King and shushed him with a hand before he could ask any questions.

"Something's not right…" he muttered as quietly as he could.

He took two steps more and that's when the guards jumped out in front of them. Goten jumped backwards and shot one of them with a Ki blast, he hit him square in the chest and watched as the soldier fell to the ground, dead.

Two more jumped at Goten and he didn't have time to think as he started to fight them off as best as he could. He didn't see Veala's grandpa over the two large soldiers that he was currently trying to fight off.

Goten grabbed one of them and tossed him into the other. He used that moment of their disorientation to jump over them and run towards the King.

Goten shot a blast right through the enemy fighting King Briefs and ran to him.

"Are you alright?" Goten asked him. He was breathing hard as he looked over the king for injuries.

"I-I'm fine…" the old King coughed a few times and then stumbled forward. Goten steadied him and then heard the other two enemies heading towards them. He picked up the King and jumped over to the secret base. He used the code Veala had taught him and they entered swiftly and quietly.

They waiting in the dark silence for what seemed like an eternity. The enemy passed by after some time and the two Saiyans very cautiously turned the lights on. No one outside could see the lights on, but Goten didn't want to risk anything.

Goten looked over to the King and saw him stumbling to get to a bed. He could see a rip in his armor by his side and a light trickle of red coming down from the freshly made wound to his side.

"Oh Kami…you're not fine!" Goten quickly helped the old man to the bed and helped him to lie down.

"Don't worry about me, I've been through much worse," King Briefs could hear how weak he sounded and cleared his voice a few times before saying

"Go get the first aid-kit please Goten,"

Goten nodded and did as he was told. He helped bandage the wound and made sure the King was lying down.

"We need to contact Bulma," he reminded Goten with a weak voice.

"As soon as you're stable I'll get right on that." Goten replied with just a little more sarcasm than the King was used to him having.

"Listen…I'll be fine, you need to make sure that Vegeta and Bulma know what's going on. I'm not important right now."

"You're very important. And I'm going to make sure you're okay before I call the King and Queen who are probably very far away at the moment. They were three days away when we called them the first time. So if we're lucky they'll be here in less than twenty-four hours. But either way, you're my priority right now. I have some medical training and I finally get to put it to use," Goten sat down next to the King

He got to work making sure that the wound was closed and that he was comfortable. Goten's heart sank slightly as he thought about what Veala's reaction would be if she lost both grandparents to this war.

He would do his best to see that it didn't happen.
