"Well my dear Kunzite. I have just found your Prince. Now please, if you don't mind, tell me, who is the better leader?" I cooed
"You are" My lips quirked upwards at the reply. Without saying a good bye I closed my phone ending the call.
Two things down, now one to go. After all my hard work, a shopping spree til 4:30, I believe is well deserved.
Chapter 13
Serena's POV
I sat at my desk, my head resting on top of folded arms, eyes staring blankly at the window to my left. I let out a soft sigh, for some unknown reason I couldn't snap my self out of the miserable state I was in. Not even Lita's cookies put a dent in my bubble of misery that formed around my body making everyone who stepped in shiver from the coldness it gave out not even my teachers dared. They would usually yell at me for slacking off. I let out a rather unsurprised "Hmmmph" un-phased by the fact I remembered my teacher scolding's through my afternoon class naps. The events that happened at Darien's apartment that morning had plagued my thoughts
FLASHBACK
I couldn't hold back the tears, knowing that they needed me, knowing that I had the power to help but couldn't, it was too hard. I hid my face in my hands and let my tears fall. If only I could be stronger, if only I could remember, if only I hadn't lost any of my memories.
I felt warm hands on mine as Darien peeled my hands from my face. He placed his soft warm hands on my cheeks cupping my face. I stared into his pools of blue and saw he understood. I didn't utter a word to him but knew deep down inside he knew exactly what was on my mind. He wiped my fallen tears with his thumbs as he laid a soft chaste kiss on my lips. I closed my eyes at the contact, and felt a tug at my chest, as I was overwhelmed with a ray of emotions assurance, comfort, strength, hope and the strongest of all love. I couldn't explain the feeling and didn't know how he did it, but I knew it was him filling me up with those emotions.
As he pulled away from the kiss, I opened my eyes and was met with his own sapphire ones, understanding and worry reflected from them.
"Serena, I promise I'll do what ever I can to help you get your memories back, but if I cant, know that I will do everything in my power to protect your friends" I should have been relieved to hear those words from him, or confused about how he could possibly protect my friends and for what reason. But somehow I didn't doubt that he could protect my friends what bothered me was the fact he might have to. Who else has to suffer due to my lack of memories? What if I never got my memories back?
END FLASHBACK
After the kiss and his proposed promise I had abruptly stood without any thanks to his hospitality and left his apartment. I gave a rather lousy excuse about having to go to the school library before the bell rang. He of course, the gentleman that he was, offered to walk me to school. The walk to my school was eerily silent. I knew he thought that the kiss might have upset me, but that wasn't the case. I was worried out of my mind. Not knowing what I should know was putting everyone in danger. My gut told me so, and I couldn't help but feel responsible for what's happening with everyone, what ever it was. There was something telling me that I could be protecting them instead of the other way around.
The school bell ringing ending the days classes brought me out of my daze. I slowly lifted my head off my folded arms and stood packing my books in my satchel. As I put my last book in I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Hey girl let's go to the Arcade, I'm dying for a milkshake" I turned to see Lita rubbing her stomach.
"Sorry I'm not up for the arcade today, I think I'll just head home" I replied closing my satchel.
"Oh come on Serena! I'm sure whatever's on your mind can be fixed with a double chocolate fudge sundae with extra everything? My shout? What you say?"
"I don't really .."
"No. I will not take no for an answer. I'm free all afternoon and I'm shouting one of my best friends to a free meal who by the way I haven't shouted or hung out in while. Aime lets go!" before I could reply, Lita had grabbed my hands and dragged me out of the class while Aime grabbed my satchel. It seemed like I had no choice.
I watched as a bead of water slid down from along my sundae landing on the pool of water beneath it. I was vaguely answering my friends questions about what I've been doing for the last couple of days, leaving out all parts that included Darien.
"Earth to Serena!" I looked up to see Amy and Lita with brows creased and a frown upon their lips.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't listening, what was the question again?" I watched as their heads turned to face each other and then back to me. Amy placed her hand over mine.
"Serena, what has you so troubled?" She asked, I replied with a shrug of my shoulders and a nonchalant "nothing". I took my hand from under hers and stirred my melted sundae. I heard as the girls gave out an exasperated sigh.
There was no point sharing my thoughts. I didn't want to burden them with my problems when they certainly have their own. I was about to stand up and give my goodbyes when I felt the weight of someone sit next to me.
"Hey girls, I haven't seen you here in a while. How are you?" I didn't even have to look up to know who that was. Darien. I really didn't want him to see me this way, pathetically glum.
"Hey Darien. We're good. You know busy with extra curricular activities. Have you gotten your results from your med exams?" Amy asked. A bit taken by the information I looked up at Darien from the corner of my eyes. Here I was talking all about me every time I saw him and I couldn't even ask how he was doing, or if he was busy.
"Not yet, I wont hear anything for at least a month. What has you worried Lita?" I pushed away my sundae and buried my head in folded arms again upon hearing Darien's inquiry directed at Lita. I didn't even have to look; I knew she was staring at me and then there was silence. I knew them all too well. They were mouthing out to Darien asking him if he knew why I was so glum.
"You know, I know what you're doing and he" I said lifting one of my arms to point at the man next me "wont know a thing" I said. Again silence and again another exasperated sigh from my two friends sitting across me.
"Serena .. " Lita began but was interrupted.
"There you guys are, look we need to go. Oh Serena, I almost didn't recognise you, you're usually stuffing your face. If it weren't for your meatballs I swear I would've never guessed" Rei teased. Even her insults didn't do it for me today.
"Pork bun right?" I said my face still buried in my folded arms.
"It can wait .." Aime said but was cut off with a "No it can't" from Rei.
"Just go," I said lifting one of my arms to wave them away.
"Darien will keep me company" I said, before they decided one should stay behind. Gut told me again, they always needed to be together on their Pork Bun happenings.
"I am?" he asked amused.
"Yes you are" I mumbled. "And you're also buying me Ice cream" I added.
"I guess I am" he said convinced.
"We're sorry we have to leave Serena, but tomorrow lets go shopping ok? I know a cute little bunny bag that will cheer you right up!" Lita said.
"I'm the one who should be sorry" I mumbled under my breath.
"What was that?" asked Rei. Is it me or her tone of voice always sounds so accusing. Lifting my head up from my arms, I gave them my most convincing smile.
"That sounds great Lita, cant wait! You guys stay safe and I'll see you tomorrow" I just hoped my smile and cheerful words would work.
"Look Meatball Head, you're acting strange and I'll scold you after Pork Bun. Geez what could possibly be wrong with your perfect normal life huh? Rei yelled accusingly. Before I could even transfer her words into some sort of emotion I felt a hand on my upper arm.
"Let's go Serena" Darien said grabbing my hand and my satchel with the other. I looked up at him as he pulled me up from my seat. His eyes flared with something I've never seen before, his mouth set in a grim line. Was he angry? I looked on as he turned to face Rei.
"What could you possibly know about what's going on in her life. Last time I checked you haven't been best friend of the year for some time now. So before you start prying into her life why don't you try be a part of it first"
I stared wide eyes mouth open at him. Did he just say that? To Rei! The 'I don't take crap from no one Rei'. I abruptly moved my stare to see Rei's reaction; eyes wide and blinking mouth ajar. She was just as shocked as I was. I suddenly felt him tug at my hand as he swivelled us out of the booth we were sitting in. I turned to look back at my three shocked friends with my brows creased as I silently mouthed 'sorry'.
We walked silently side by side. His hands that were once wrapped tightly around my wrist at the arcade were now softly laced around my own. Holding his hands brought me comfort I needed the whole day. Just being in his presence, his golden, calm, protective aura was enough to penetrate my bubble of misery and bring in warmth that seeped in through every pore of my skin.
"Thank you for sticking up for me and I'm sorry you had to sit through that" I said hoping to break the silence.
"Rei should be the one that's sorry" he let go of my hand ran his fingers through his hair.
"Every person that knows you would automatically know you weren't in any mood or condition to be insulted. Even Andrew knew" I tilted my head at his
comment about Andrew. He gave an exasperated sigh. I was certainly exasperating today.
"Did you even notice there were blueberry pancakes on the table in front you?" My jaw dropped and eyes widened.
"Blueberry's are my favourite!" I whined as Darien gave me a "yeah, we all know" smile. Damn stupid mood, made me miss blueberry pancakes. I stomped my foot and folded my arms on my chest in annoyance. Screw the ice cream I want blueberry pancakes! I was about to tell Darien of my new craving when he grabbed my hand in his and started walking.
"Now that you're feeling better, we'll drop by the store before we go to my apartment" he said staring at the street ahead of us. Good thing he was looking where we were going koz I've just been literally staring him since we left the arcade.
"Why are we going to your apartment? I thought we were getting ice cream?" I asked looking up. I saw as his lips curled up in a smile.
"Well something tells me you'd rather have blueberry pancakes than ice cream right now and just so you know my blueberry pancake recipe is better than Andrew's" I stared at the man before me. Is it possible for a guy to be perfect? Coz I felt like I just hit the jackpot!
"I'll be the judge of that" I said sticking my nose up in the air. I got a chuckle for a response.
"Thank you Darien" was what I said as I leaned my head under his shoulder. I was falling, and falling hard. But at that moment I was enjoying the thrill of the fall and I couldn't care less what was up head. As long as I was in his arms, I knew everything would be ok.
AN: Ok so I know this chap was not so thrilling like the others and it doesn't answer your questions regarding the Generals. But Next chap everything will be revealed! We're gonna be hearing Mina's POV since it's her show and all and as you can guess she's the only one with her memories back apart from Kunzite. I totally forgot that I had Darien mention the *evil Generals* already in the very first chapters (story plot change caused that) But do not fear I have concocted something for why there are evil Generals ! And we'll probably see that within the next chapters. I find using jap names for the Generals better, I get confused with the American names some people use and I don't feel like the names portray their personality.
