"Show me your stuff!" Wakka taunted me as he threw his volleyball. Grinning, I tumble to the side, the sand softening my landing, narrowly dodging the ball. Hopping back up I charge at Wakka, my wooden sword held back-handed in my right hand. I slash at him with an uppercut, but he stumbles back out of the way, unbalanced. Inwardly I curse at missing, but continue with my momentum to to sweep low and kick my right leg out, knocking his legs out from under him. "Hey-!" Wakka cried out as he fell on his back. The next moment I leap onto him, holding my sword to his kneck. Smirking, I sing-song "I wiiiin"at him. Groaning he pushes me off onto the sand and I let him, the 'sword' falling from my grip.
"You know, one of these days you're going to lose?" I shrug and stand back up, brushing off sand and straightening my green bandana to keep my hair out of my face.
"Oh yeah? And whose going to beat me Wakka, you?" I tease lightheartedly.
"Nah" he waves me off, a smirk on his lips, "but he might." He says motioning to someone behind me. Before I can react a girly squeal escapes me as I'm picked up from behind and swung over a shoulder. The back of a yellow shirt in my face tells me exactly who the culprit is.
"Riku put me down!" I yell, trying to wiggle out of his grasp. I can practically hear the smirk in his voice as he says,
"You hear something Wakka?"
"Nah man, must be the wind playing tricks." Wakka says playing along with him.
"Ha ha, very funny, now put me down." I deadpan, slightly irritated with them.
"Oh hey Azra, didn't see you there. How's it going?" Riku asks, mirth clear in his voice.
"How do you think?" I snap at him.
"Ooh testy," He tsks at me, "I think we have ourselves a hothead. You know how we fix those Wakka?" "Nah man, how do you deal with a hothead?"
"Like this." Riku says as he starts walking towards the beach. I feel the color drain from my face as I catch on to what he's doing. I start to flail.
"Now Riku lets not be hasty. We're friends and friends don't drop friends in water before the sun is fully up...right?" I pleaded. He stopped just in front of the water and seemed to mull it over before saying,
"You have a point, friends don't do that." I smiled as he started to shift me when it happened...
"But best friends do." He said before he tossed me into the cold water. I let out a shriek as the water jolted me and got up and out as fast as I could already shivering. Glaring at him I see that he and Wakka are doubled over laughing.
"I hate you so much right now." He straightens up, a smik on his face, and comes over and drapes an arm across my shoulders.
"Aww Azra, you could never hate me. You like me too much for that." He says casually and thankfully misses the blush that adorns my face.
We walk down the beach a little ways before he stops to grab a driftwood log. Up ahead of us we can Sora and Kairi talking. As we got closer I could hear part of their conversation
"...other worlds out there. I wanna see 'em all!" Sara said excited.
"So what are we waiting for?" Kairi said back just as excited. Riku decided to make his presence know then.
"Hey!" Sora and Kairi bother turned to look at us.
"Aren't you guys forgetting about us?"
"Tsk tsk, you can flirt later. We have a raft to build you two." I teased them, amused when Sora turned a bright red. Riku tossed the driftwood log at Sora who fumbled to catch it.
"You're one to talk Azra." Riku jibed. I put a hand over my heart in mock hurt as he sat on the sand next to Sora.
"You wound me Riku! Here I am slaving the morning away to hone my fighting skills. Who else but me will save you from the pirates when we're out at sea?" I say with mock dramtics, flopping onto the sand, my head landing in his lap. Riku merely shakes his head at me as I grin up at him.
"Besides," I continue, "All you've done is grab that piece of driftwood, so you're one to talk" Riku sends me a glare and tugs my bandana down over my eyes. I let out and indignant "hey!" and pull it back up as Riku ruffles my already tangled hair.
"Alright!" Kairi claps her hands as she bounces in place. "We'll finish it for sure today so long as we work together! I'll race you!" She says.
"Huh?" Sora asks confused.
"What, are you kidding?" Riku asks. I'm already starting to get up as Kairi says,
"Ready? GO!" Like magic, Sora, Riku and I are off and running towards the raft, Kairi running behind us, quickly catching up.
It was a long day spent in the sun gathering as much drift wood, food and water as we could for the raft. Later that evening we all sat out on the mini island with our favorite Paupu tree watching the sunset.
"So...Kairi and Azra's home is out there somewhere, right?" Sora asked Riku as if he has all the answers.
"Could be. We'll never know by staying here." Riku says shaking his head. I frown, knowing that he's been wanting to leave for ages now, but its been changing him.
"But how far could a raft take us?" Sora asks.
"Who knows? If we have to, we'll think of something else." Riku replies as if he's unconcerned.
"So..suppose you get to another world. What would you do there?" Kairi asks with a giggle.
"Hmm...Well I-I haven't really thought about it," He pauses before continuing,
"It's just...I've always wondered why we're here on this island. If there are any other worlds out there, why did we end up on this one? And suppose there are other worlds...Then ours is just a little piece of something much greater. So we could have just as easily ended up somewhere else, right?" Sora leaned back on the tree and said,
"I don't know." I snort at his answer and Riku gives me long look.
"What?" He asks me.
"I'm pretty sure I did come from somewhere else." I motion my hand towards my hair and say,
"I mean hello, have you ever seen or heard of someone else with my hair color before? Teal is not a natural hair color here and I-" I stop and take a deep breath before exhaling and saying,
"I'm going to find my family." All three turn to look at me and I look down and play with my charm bracelet. Its worn down from years of use, but I can still make out the names, on the beads. 'Lea', 'Isa', 'Kairi' and 'Azra'.
"You guys are great, and I wouldn't give you up for anything, but somewhere...Somewhere out there someone is waiting for me...and maybe they've been looking for me too.
"You've been thinking on this a lot lately haven't you?" Kairi asked, "Both of you." I shrugged and returned my gaze to the vanishing sunset.
"It's thanks to both of you," Riku said motioning to Kairi and I, "If you hadn't come here, I probably wouldn't have thought of any of this, so...Thank you." Kairi gave a small laugh and said,
"Your'e welcome." Stretching my arms over my head I let out a yawn.
"Well I'm ready to call it a night. Ready to head back?" I asked. Kairi nodded and hopped down from the tree to walk back with me, Sora and Riku lagged behind to talk about who knows what. As we got back to the dock and began untying our canoes, Kairi said,
"Azra?"
"hmm?" I hummed, focused on not letting my canoe drift.
"I'm sorry." Looking up at her I stared confused,
"What about?"
"For...wanting to stay here. I cant remember anything of where we came from, but you at least have some reason to go back. I promise, i'll do whatever I can to help you find Lea and Isa" I chuckled as she said Isa like Ee-suh.
"Its Isa, Kairi. Eye-zuh. Got it memorized?" I tapped my head as I said it, making Kairi giggle.
"Got it. Lets head home, we have a big day tomorrow." Nodding to her we set out for home, unaware that later that night everything would change.
