I followed Duke down the stairs and managed to catch up with him when he stormed outside, through the French doors. Duke was controlling his breathing as he passed up and down, I was unsure now. I didn't want to fight, I had started to like Duke a lot and he seemed to be a good guy.
'Duke…' I said unsure.
He turned to me with a look of absolute anger but also sadness, which made me feel even worse.
'You knew how I felt about her.' Duke said simply. 'You knew.'
'I'm sorry.' I said meekly, my hangover was started to catch up on me as my head started pounding. 'Would it help if I told you nothing actually happened.'
'What?' Duke asked doubtfully.
'I passed out.' I said, shrugging my shoulders.
'What was that this morning then?' Duke asked, still unbelieving. 'That looked cosy.'
'That was me not thinking.' I said truthfully, I sat down on the lawn chair with my head in my hands. 'It was stupid. I'm sorry.'
'Did she kiss you back?' Duke asked seriously.
I thought back to the kiss. Olivia had kissed me back, it had felt good. I didn't know what had overcome me, it was the first time I had ever kissed a girl and the only thing I could think about was the fact I wanted to do it again… and again. Did that make me a lesbian? Or was it just Olivia who had that effect on me? I hadn't been in any serious relationships with boys, except possibly Justin but I hadn't actually liked him that much. My head was started to hurt, I was confused and I had no one to talk to about it.
'Oi!' Duke shouted.
I realised that he had been talking to me whilst I had been contemplating my life.
'Sorry, what?' I asked, looking at him, he looked less sad but stilled seemed angry.
'Did she kiss you back?' Duke asked.
'No.' I said straight away, I knew if I said yes that Duke would be more upset. 'I have an idea.'
'What?' Duke asked, frowning.
'I can help you with your Olivia problem.' I said confidently, it was a stupid idea but it was the only way to keep Duke happy and Olivia away from me. 'I can convince her to go out with you, talk you up.'
'You'd do that?' Duke asked uncertainly.
'Of course!' I said enthusiastically. 'It'll be great, I'm her partner in Science, and it'll be prime time to talk about how great you are.'
Duke still looked uncertain, and started pacing again as if he was thinking about it.
'Dude it'll work.' I said convincingly.
'It better.' Duke said, as he started to walk back to the house, I shouted 'Don't I get a hug!', he stopped ran back and gave me a tight bear hug and let me go.
We walked back together, with Duke talking about Olivia and how good I was for doing this for him. I still felt bad because I had a feeling that Olivia didn't even like Duke that way and the way that she had kissed me last night… I smiled at the memory but shook my head and reminded myself that I was in fact a girl and Duke fancied her.
Duke and I were in the kitchen talking about football when the guys came in and we became a louder as we chatted about who would win the match next week. It was nice, comfortable even but my mind couldn't stop wondering to Olivia. Before the girls came down, I excused myself saying I wanted to go back to campus, Duke and some of the other guys followed me back.
Back at campus, I had a shower and then went back to bed as my head was throbbing with a headache. The last thought I had when I slowly drifted into sleep was Olivia's beautiful blue eyes looking at me with a lustful gaze.
