Author's Note: Sami calls Mindy "Minds" (Like Mints but with "ds" instead of "ts") in case there is any confusion.
Middleton High School...
The first bell rung, indicating it was time for everyone to get to their respected classrooms. Mindy had been one of four who had actually shown up first, so she had decided to take a seat up front in order to have a better view and maybe play kiss ass to the teacher. She technically did not have to stay here the entire day, she did hack the system so she could have perfect attendance. The only issue would be that Sami passed her classrooms at least a couple times a day, so the brunette would know if the blond was actually here.
Mindy groaned in frustration, wondering why she had even sought out the brunette's help in the first place. She then thought about the conversation she had with the hero last night. The blond didn't know anyone around here besides Sami and her team. She also didn't have any relatives left, so she couldn't imagine anyone missing her. She could take on the Joker and his goons. Would be hurting afterward, but she's been through worse. Afterward, she would flee Middleton and probably head south. Maybe she would go to Florida or New Orleans, lay low for a while until things blew over before heading back up north. Assuming Sami didn't keep track of her every movement.
"You're in my seat." a voice said.
Tuning her attention to the newcomer, Mindy almost slapped the person. Why the hell was Esther in her class? Shouldn't she be with people her own age? A thought crossed her brain as she realized that she was the one out of place. She had forgotten that she was in an advanced English class, which would be a normal Sixth Grade English class. So of course she and her Royal Highness would be in the same class.
With a silent apology, Mindy picked up her things and moved to the seat behind the previous one. Esther gave an annoyed "thank you" before sitting down. Mindy stuck her tongue out at the older girl once Esther had sat down, flipping her off as well. Only seven other kids came in after the final bell rang. The teacher came in last, looking winded and disheveled. She sat her briefcase down behind her desk and stood in front of the board, writing down a sentence that the kids had to correct. Mindy kept her hand down when the teacher asked for volunteers.
Somehow, she still managed to catch the teacher's eye, "Oh, I almost forgot. We have a new student joining us. Could you stand up and introduce yourself?"
With a sigh, Mindy stood up in her seat. She told everyone her name, where she was from, and what her favorite subject was. She told them Gym, because she liked to participate in sports. She then sat down as the teacher welcomed her. They proceeded on with the lesson for today when Mindy received a tap on the shoulder. She looked to her left, but the boy next to her didn't do it. She then turned to look behind her, almost sighing in annoyance.
In the seat behind her was a blond girl around her age, her hair in a braid and a red beanie on her head. She wore black framed glasses and wore braces as she smiled at Mindy. She wore a long-sleeved white shirt with a red vest overtop. She also wore jean shorts over black legging and red converse. She held her hand out to the other girl, receiving a confused glance from Mindy.
"I'm Brandy Rockwaller, I like Gym too." the other blond whispered.
Mindy shook her hand, "Good to know." she responded before turning back around.
"So, are you a smarty like me?" Brandy asked, poking Mindy in the back with her eraser.
"That's why I'm in advanced English." Mindy said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Cool! So, how do you know Sami Parker?" Brandy asked.
Mindy froze. How did this girl know she knew Sami? Then she remembered that Sami did drop her off this morning instead of the Marcus look-a-like. She relaxed and sighed, "Why?"
"Just wondering. My older sister was making fun of Sami, saying something about being a "Teen Mom". Isn't that messed up?" Brandy asked.
"Just a bit. Who's your sister?" Mindy asked curiously.
"Bonnie Rockwaller, co-captain of the Cheer Team." Brandy said.
Sami spoke of Bonnie earlier in the car ride over. She said that the girl was kind of a bitch and wasn't exactly a role-model. While she spoke though, she never mentioned Brandy. Then again, Sami probably didn't know that the other blond existed. It's not like she actually talked to Bonnie. Mindy looked back at Brandy, who was patiently waiting for a response. This girl didn't look like some prissy popular. She actually looked kind of...geeky, the total opposite of how Sami described Bonnie. This girl seemed friendly enough, again, the total opposite of what she had heard about Bonnie.
The two girls quietly continued conversing as the class continued. Mindy learned that Brandy liked video games and comic books. She also learned that Brandy played softball for the junior Junior Varsity team here at Middleton. When Mindy asked what "junior Junior Varisty" was, causing the other to giggle. The teacher shot them a scolding look before turning back to grading papers. Brandy explained that the team was mostly middle school/elementary kids all on the same team, since Middleton was a first through twelfth school now.
Mindy nodded, finishing up her paper. She turned and held out a hand, silently offering to hand in the other girl's paper. Brandy thanked the other and handed her paper to Mindy, who handed them both in. When the bell rang, both girls collected their things and headed to their next class. Mindy found out that they had four other classes together and had the same lunch period.
The young hero asked Brandy if she would like to sit with her at lunch with the other Teen Heroes. Brandy gasped excited, hugging Mindy and thanking her. She earned another confused look. Brandy explained that she didn't have very many friends and usually sat by herself. When Mindy asked why she didn't sit with Bonnie, the other blond gave a sad look. She explained that Bonnie was "embarrassed" of her and that hanging with her younger sister wasn't cool. Mindy gave her a look of sympathy. That was really messed up.
By the time lunch time came around, Mindy went to stand by Brandy's classroom as she waited for the other to come out. They didn't have the same class fourth period, but Mindy promised to meet the other outside of her classroom. While waiting outside, someone smacked her on the shoulder while someone else ruffled her head. She turned to glare up at the offenders, but relaxed when she saw Ben and Dick. The older boys smiled deviously at her.
"Whatcha doing, Minders?" Ben asked.
"Waiting for my friend." she explained, just as Brandy came out.
The other blond hugged her, "I am said friend!" she said with excitement.
Ben and Dick exchanged confused looks. They then looked to Mindy for an explanation. Before she could explain, Brandy held out both of her hands, crossing one over the other. The boys shook her hands as she introduced herself. She also explained that she had met Mindy in English class and that they were the same age.. The boys were still stuck on her last name, trying to figure something out. Ben cleared his throat, silencing Brandy,
"Rockwaller?" Ben asked in confirmation.
"You wouldn't happened to be related to Bonnie Rockwaller, would you?" Dick asked with uncertainty in his voice.
Brandy nodded, explaining that Bonnie was her older sister. Ben and Dick exchanged confused looks once again. Ben explained that they didn't even know that Bonnie had a younger sister. Brandy explained her and her sister's relationship, receiving sympathetic looks from the older boys. Well if Dick and Ben didn't even know that Bonnie had a sister, maybe Sami didn't know either. Again, Sami said she wasn't exactly friends with the cheerleader, mainly because they didn't get along.
"You are more than welcome to come sit with us," Ben said, "besides, Mindy's family and you're her friend. Any friend of Mindy's, is a friend of ours."
Family, Mindy liked the sound of that.
