Middleton High School...

After listening to Brandy go on and on about life, Mindy had realized that the other blonde kind of had a pretty shitty existence. Not only did her older sister want her to conform to the ways of their oldest siblings, but she kind of blew the younger off after Brandy refused to follow suit, saying that it was wrong for them to give up their uniqueness in order to fit in. Bonnie ignored her from there on out, only interacting with the younger when she had to drive her to school. Mindy could see why Brandy attached herself to Mindy; because Brandy felt that she could be herself without the fear of judgment.

This made Mindy smile, feeling a sense of pride in herself for making the other girl feel more welcomed into their little group. The smile quickly dropped when that thought had crossed her brain. She mentally cursed herself for thinking such pleasant thoughts. She was here to kill the Joker and she promised herself that she would not get attached to anyone...not even Sami.

Yet, she could not help but feel attached. Sami had been so caring, like a mother figure. Yes, the elder had scolded her for being reckless, but she was actually just genuinely worried for her. She did not want Mindy to put herself at risk. Hell, she had given Mindy her own room in her house, the brunette's mother fed her, and even took her on patrol and let her fight crime.

Maybe she could...no, no! She could not stay! Her mission was to take care of the Joker and then move along. Maybe move back to one of her safe houses in New York, meet up with Dave and whatever what left of Justice Forever. Dave would certainly be more than happy to let her stay with him.

A tapping on her arm brought her out of her daze, blue-green eyes turned to look at whoever had tapped her. The icy blue eyes of Sami Parker looked back at her, silently asking her if she was okay. With a nod, Mindy went back to picking at her lunch while Brandy continued on with her story. Could she go back to living a normal life like she did that short time she had been with Marcus?

Her question had been answered when the Emergency Exit doors had been blown off with some type of explosives. The students in the cafeteria screamed as they tried to duck for cover. Others made a mad dash for the doors that lead back into the school to escape, but were met with the barrels of guns. Big burly henchmen with clown masks ushered the students back into the cafeteria. The henchmen coming in through the Emergency Exits wore red and black masks, guns as big as their buddies. One of the bigger guys took his gun and shot off a couple of rounds toward the ceiling, causing more panic in the crowd.

Mindy looked up at Sami, "What the hell is going on?" the blonde hollered over the commotion.

The brunette did not have a reply, looking towards Jack, Kim, and the other Teen Heroes, as if telling them to get ready to fight. The sound of psychotic laughter filled the air, making all the heroes turn their attentions back toward the door. Their faces filled with horror as they realized who had just walked through the door.

"Hello, kiddies!" Joker hollered, a gigantic red smile on his lips, "A little birdy told me that a Mindy McCready was looking for me?"

Mindy had never been more horrified in her life.
