I asked Duke, when I got back to our dorm, if he still liked Olivia. He didn't answer straight away but the way he looked down and seemed uncomfortable suggested that he did.
"She seems to be into you." Duke said, looking a little sad. "So I don't think I have serious chance."
Olivia was into me but she was only into me because she thought I was this sensitive, sweet GUY. Emphasis on guy because what she knew to be true was completely false, what kind of relationship could we have if it was based totally on lies? None, is the answer. However, Duke and Olivia absolutely made sense. Duke was a sweet and sensitive guy, so why couldn't she just fall for him?
"No she isn't really." I said brushing it off, as if he was totally crazy. "You and Olivia, on the other hand, are totally compatible."
"I don't know man, she hasn't talked to me in ages and when I do talk to her," Duke sighed. "She seems to be somewhere else, as if she would rather be talking to someone else."
"Dude, she's only playing hard to get." I exclaimed to make it sound like he was crazy.
"You think?" Duke asked, still unsure.
I smiled. I don't think I've ever met a guy like Duke, he was so sweet. How was he still single? If I wasn't seriously questioning my sexuality, I would be interested but I had no attraction for him. Olivia face came into my head, I gritted my teeth and made the image disappear, it seemed that my own mind was against me now. I wanted this Duke and Olivia plan to work out, they both deserved happiness.
"I know." I said reassuringly. "You just need to put yourself out there."
"I still need your help." Duke said looking worried. "You can talk me up, you guys are close friends and I think she trusts you."
"Don't worry, I totally will." I said with a dry smile, Olivia did seem to trust me and that worried me. "You have to talk to her as well though."
Duke relaxed and looked happy but then scared as if he realised that talking to Olivia would mean approaching her.
"Talk about what," Duke said shaking his head. "I have no conversation, what could Olivia Lennox and I possibly talk about?"
"I don't know," I said frowning. " talk about anything like, I don't know, cheese or something."
"Cheese?" Duke said completely unconvinced. "You want me to talk to Olivia Lennox about cheese... Are you fucking serious?!"
"Ok, whatever. Talk about anything." I said shaking my head with a laugh. "Have you never talked to girls before or something?"
"Olivia Lennox is not just girls." Duke stated, then he got this lost look in his eyes. "She's smart, funny, sweet, so cute, beautiful. I mean she's fucking perfect. Don't you think so?"
I looked down, I didn't want him to see me face because I totally agreed with him. I had no idea that he felt so strong for Olivia. I have to make this plan work.
"She's alright." I said with a small smile.
"She's a hell more than alright, dude."
"Whatever, I'm getting to get some sleep." I said with a yawn. "It's been a long fucking day. Tomorrow it's operation make Olivia fall for Duke Orsino."
"Shut up." Duke said with a blush. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, my friend."
...
I entered class the next morning determined to fix up Duke and Olivia together, whilst at the same time main thing our friendship. It was the only way that I could completely concentrate on what I was here to do and most importantly, Olivia wouldn't end up hurt.
Olivia hadn't arrived yet, I was wondering if she would be boycotting class again. I knew she was probably upset the way I just dodged her serious questions but I didn't want to overtly lie when I was already hiding something so huge that felt like bursting.
Duke was sat next Eunice, looking bored stiff as she chatted his ear off with what she did at the weekend. It was funny and I laughed a little. Then, Olivia walked in with Maria next to her looking super serious and almost determined, Maria was whispering in her ear about something. Olivia nodded and sat next to me without a word.
I didn't know where to look. Is this how our relationship was going to be? I couldn't let it be like this. I looked at Maria who was looking at Olivia, they were mouthing to each other about something but I couldn't work out what was being said. Maria nodded, as if a plan was in motion. What the hell was going on?
Suddenly, Olivia turned to me looking very sexy and biting her lip. Good Lord, give me strength.
"Duke is looking good today isn't her?" Olivia said, staring at Duke who was oblivious as he had now out his head on the table as if he'd given up with Eunice's chatter.
"I guess, I don't know." I mumbled, where the hell had that come from? It was completely left wing.
"He's a good guy?" Olivia asked me, as if she wanted to know about him.
Was she warming up to the idea of her and Duke? It would mean less work for me, if she was. Something in me didn't like the idea of her going anywhere near Duke but I shot that away. I promised Duke I would try.
"Duke? Yes, he's the fucking best. Kind, smart, funny and amazing at football." I said with a smile.
"He's not to bad to look at either." Olivia said with a sexy smile. "I bet he's amazing I bed as well."
Before I could say anything, although I had no idea what to say to that, the professor entered the classroom. I looked before me, not brave enough to look at Olivia who had just said something that was completely unlike her. Where had that come from? I caught the smile that Maria gave Olivia, who winked I return. As a girl, I never understood girl code but I knew that something was defiantly going on that I was blind to.
