I pretended I was too sick. I pretended that my parents didn't want me to go. I pretended that I was dying. Nothing worked. Everyone was adamant that I should go to the party to celebrate our great win, the begged and pleaded with me. When that didn't work, they turned to emotional blackmail and soft shoves. I gave in. What harm could it do? It would be a nice way to say farewell to everyone as I wouldn't be going to homecoming.
So here I was playing beer pong with Andrew, Phillip and Toby. I was pretty good at it but Toby was totally letting the side down, which made us both steadily drunker. Andrew and Phillip decided that we were no good and we were replaced by two cheerleaders which bruised Toby's ego a little but I pointed out that Eunice was probably waiting for him somewhere which brightened him up.
I took a quick scan of the party going on around me. Duke was sitting with Sarah, with stars in his eyes as she told him something. That boy had it bad. Paul was now flirting outrageously with Andrew as the latter attempted concentrate on the game but instead seemed distracted and was blushing. Kia and Yvonne were all smiles as guys danced around them.
The scene made me smile. Everyone was happy. I let a contented sigh, as I took a step away from the crowd to a secluded bench. I was enjoying myself but sometimes I needed a quiet moment to collect my thoughts, well a quiet moment to look glum by myself as I thought of her - I didn't want to bring anyone down.
I hadn't seen Olivia since being in the stadium, she probably hadn't come. I wouldn't be surprised. She had been quite clear about never wanting to see or talk to me again, so why was I fighting the urge to seek her out and talk to her? I was suffering from not seeing her for a week which was completely ridiculous but I couldn't help it.
"There is the man of the match." Becki's voice interrupted my thoughts.
I looked up at her. She looked way over dressed, wearing a black cocktail dress and silver high heels. It looked pretty but she seemed out of place here, where everyone was in more relaxed attire. Becki sat next to me - uninvited, I noted; Olivia would have asked - get out my head!
"What's got you looking so solemn?" Becki asked, running her hand through her thick, dark hair. "I would have thought you would be ecstatic, you won the match."
"I only scored one goal Becs, also I had 10 other people who kind of helped me out. The guys were amazing." I said shaking my head with a grin, she always went all out with her compliments.
"Pfft. If you say so. You're just being modest." Becki said, then turned to look directly at me, biting her lip in that very seductive way. "I like when you call me Becs."
"A lot of others do as well." I said, feeling uncomfortable.
"Yeah, but when you say it is way sexier." Becki leaned closer.
"Sebastian! I need you!" Kia shouted from a distance.
"I'll see you later." I said quickly, scuttling away.
"You can count on it!" Becki shouted after me.
I reached Kia who had her arms crossed and she looked less than pleased. Before I could say anything she firmly grabbed my arm and started pulling my indoors. Yvonne noticed and she ran over.
"What's going on?" She asked as she followed Kia yanking me upstairs.
"Just going to have a little chat." Kia said, her teeth gritted.
I rolled my eyes and said anything. Why were some girls so dramatic? I had done nothing wrong.
Kia found an empty bedroom and pushed me in, Yvonne followed closely after. I sat down on the bed and awaited the berating that was surely to follow. I didn't have to wait for too young.
"Why an earth are you talking to that girl?" Kia scolded.
"She came up to me." I said in a bored tone. "I didn't instigate anything."
"Olivia saw, you know that?" Yvonne added. "I thought you liked her and wanted to be with her?"
I snorted in annoyance.
"I gave you guys the update with Olivia, she wants nothing to do with me." I retorted angrily. "So, why do I care if she saw me with Becki?"
"You're such a dumbass!" Kia shouted at me.
"You know dumb means when someone is unable to speak - wait, what am I doing? Oh speaking, so I'm not dumb at all." I retorted snarkily. "Get your vocabulary sorted."
Kia and Yvonne just stared at me like I had another head growing.
"How about you're just an ass?" Kia supplied. "An idiotic ass, who is missing out being with the girl that she loves."
"Vi, you need to go after her." Yvonne added. "You don't just give up, you fight for what you want. Look what you did just for football."
"I didn't though, did I? I flopped at the last hurdle because I didn't want to hurt some girl's feelings." I said bitterly. "Can't you get into your thick skulls that it's over, she doesn't want me, and I won't waste my time fighting for something that is doomed from the start."
Kia and Yvonne look at each with pity for me in their eyes, I hated that. I lay back on the bed so I didn't have to look at their faces. I signed, I was fed up with people get involved with my life. I had a handle on it and I think, out of everyone, I knew what I wanted.
"I have to go."Yvonne said suddenly, breaking the silence. "I met a nice guy downstairs and he's probably waiting for me."
Kia and I said a quiet goodbye, then it was just the two of us.
"Don't you love her anymore?" Kia questioned.
I groaned, I had asked myself that countless of times the past week and I came up with the same dreaded answers but I wasn't going to say that to Kia. It made me suddenly very angry.
"It doesn't fucking matter!" I yelled from my lying position, angrily staring at the ceiling. " I wish you would just get that. Just stay out of my business, don't you think I have a much better idea of what's going on in my life than you? I'll repeat myself for the hundredth time. She. Wants. Nothing. To. Do. With. Me."
I got up and stared at Kia angrily.
"I have a better chance of being with you, than her." I added, not realising what I was saying in my drunken state. "I mean we have a good friendship and you're a good kisser, great qualities to start a relationship."
I looked at her in my haze, I realised that she was blushing now. Why?
"Why are you blushing?" I asked straight out.
"Well, you are flirting." Kia countered. "People to usually react in some way when someone flirts with them, I blush. You know that."
"Come here." I yanked her hand and sat her beside me. "Why not?"
"Why not, what?" Kia asked confused.
I leaned closer. "Us."
Kia gasped, retracting her hand leaning away from me. I frowned.
"You are way drunker than I thought." Kia scoffed. "I think you should sleep it off, then come talk to me
"What difference is me being sober going to do with your feelings?" I retorted. "You either want to or not."
"First off, you may not even think this when your sober. Second, you're only feeling this way because you think you've been rejected. Third, and most importantly, you're in love with another girl." Kia replied furiously, ticking off her points with her fingers.
Before I could reply, Andrew walked in with Paul. They were kissing each other furiously. When Paul saw us her, frowned angrily while Andrew was embarrassed and blushed.
"Hey boys." Kia said with smirk, standing up and pulled me to my feet. "We'll let you have the room."
"Wait, Sebastian." Andrew shouted after us. "Olivia's looking for you, she's in the garden."
I was dragged downstairs violently by Kia, before I could say anything. Then unceremoniously shoved outside with door locked after me. In my drunken state my reactions were much slower and I found myself locked outside with Olivia sitting on the bench I was sat on just a few minutes ago with Becki.
I heaved a sigh.
"You wanted to see me." I said, kneeling against the tree, near the bench.
Olivia turned around at my voice. God. Why did she have to be so beautiful. She was wearing a simple T. Shirt and jeans, her hair tied up in a simple bun. Yet, she was breathtaking in such simple attire.
"Aren't you going to sit down?" Olivia asked politely.
"What for? Does sitting down make this easier?" I asked sarcastically.
"What's wrong with you?" Olivia asked, an annoyed look crossing her face.
"Well, where do I start?" I heaved dramatically. "I had a plan to change the face of soccer, and shove it up my old coaches and Justin's ass but that fell. I managed to fall in love with a girl who wants to nothing to do with me. Do I need to go on? I have few other things that are wrong with me."
"You're acting like a petulant child." Olivia said simply. "I'll talk to you when you're sober."
She stood up, but I wasn't going to let her. I walked over and shoved her back down. I shook a angry finger in direction.
"No, you tell me what you wanted to. I've come to hear it." I spat angrily. "You ignore me for the whole week! Now you're demanding that we talk. So fucking talk."
I took a breath, looking down at her. Waiting.
"I took that time to think. I just needed to think Vi." Olivia said, looking up with tears in her eyes. "I realised during that week without seeing or talking to you, just how much I missed you and how much I loved you. I couldn't take a week. Just a week, of not seeing you. I wanted to say that I'm sorry. And-"
She stopped, took a breath, looking directly into my eyes.
"And, if you want to go on a date with me this weekend."
That sobered me up. I stumbled back in surprise, I managed to trip on a tree root and fell on my ass in front of her. I turned red with embarrassment. Olivia got worried, and crawled on the floor towards me.
"Are you ok?" She stroked my face.
"You asked me out, I more than ok." I said with a smile, then frowned. "Aren't I supposed to be asking you out?"
"Why can't I?" Liv said with a laugh.
"Aren't I the butch one in this relationship?" I said with a smirk.
"Hardly, even if you do look great dressed up as a guy." Olivia said quirking her eyebrow as she took in my garb and wig.
"We're doing this?" I whispered insecurely. "We're really doing this? You're not going to end up changing your mind down the road?"
"Yes, we really are." Olivia said, wrapping her hands round my neck and pulling me foreword. "I love you Vi, I can't imagine being anywhere else. I want to discover who you really are without this garb. I want a future."
"I love you too." I whispered, laying my hands on her hips. "I really fucking love you."
I kissed softly, she pulled away with a great big smile.
"I really fucking love you more." Olivia said with a glint in her eye.
I laughed, pulling her closer.
"Not fucking possible." I whispered lovingly in her ear.
The End
