Novalee woke up with a splitting headache. It was dark in the bedroom she was in, but she could tell it wasn't her bedroom. She bolted up and she immediately regretted it as the headache reestablished itself. "It alright. No need to panic." A soft voice calmed her. Sitting at the edge of the bed was Yuki, his purple eyes seemed to be glowing as he looked at her.
"What happened?" She asked, holding her head and wincing in pain.
"You got upset, jumped up, tripped and hit your head." He explained.
She tried to remember. There were flashes of an orange cat, puffs of smoke and a talking dog."I had the strangest dream." He handed her a glass of water that she gladly sipped on. "It felt so real."
"Dreams always feel real when you're having one. It's not until you wake up that you realize how strange it really is." The two stared at each other for what felt like hours.
Nova realized how little she knew about the silver haired boy. "You are sorta strange."
He looked surprised "Am i?"
She nodded "but I like strange." She admitted, smiling at him. After a few moments she removed the blankets covering her. "What time is it?"
"About 8:30."
"Ohmygosh! My uncle is going to kill me!" She panicked jumping up and a wave of nausea rolled over her making her double over.
Yuki held out his arms in case she started to fall again. He guided her back over to the bed to sit. "Easy now. Tohru called your uncle and explained to him what happened. He agreed to let you stay the night on the grounds we have you home tomorrow. Now don't push yourself. We want you to get better, not worse.
Novalee smiled weakly and shifted uncomfortably. She wasn't sure how she felt about staying the night at Yuki and Kyo's house. Sure Tohru lived there too but she still had a nagging feeling in the back of her head telling her something wasn't right. Unfortunately the throbbing overpowered the feeling and she agreed. "How about we head downstairs. I'm sure the others are worried about you. " Yuki suggested, holding his hand out for her.
When they reached the living room Shigure, Kyo and Tohru were sitting around the table discussing something in quick hushed tones. "Nova-Chan!" Tohru exclaimed when the pair entered the room. "How are you feeling?"
"I have the headache of the century but other than that I'm fine. Yuki here took good care of me." She smiled, nudging the boy beside her playfully.
Hayli was feeling anxious Saturday morning. She wanted Novalee to come home so that they could talk. She hoped her twin still wasn't angry. They had never fought for this long and it made her stomach churn thinking about it. She was laying on her bed staring at a poster of a fox pup hugging another fox pup when she heard the door downstairs close. Jumping up she tripped over the edge of her bed, falling face first to the floor. She scrambled back to her feet and towards the door. She slung it open and stood at the top of the stairs. Looking down she saw Uncle Ronny and Nova waving goodbye to Yuki Sohma. Nova turned and looked up the stairs, their blue eyes locking. Everything that Hayli wanted to say about Tenkai, their dad, their mom, friends, all of it came rushing back. She had rehearsed what she wanted to say. She was ready. Instead the only thing that came out was "I'm sorry."
Nova stared at her sister for a long moment. "Me too."
"So you two really broke up?" Novalee asked. The two girls were sitting on Hayli's bed in their pajamas and munching on cookies.
Hayli let out a sigh. She was disappointed that it hadn't worked out with Tenkai, but she knew he wasn't good for her. "Yeah. He wanted to sleep with me and I told him no. At school yesterday he wouldn't even look at me and I caught him making out with some dirty looking chick. Needless to say we are no longer together. "
"What a jerk!" Nova leaned over and put her head on her sisters shoulder. "I'm proud of you though. You are taking this surprisingly well. "
Hayli let out a very unladylike snort. "Lets just say he got what was coming to him."
Monday morning was extremely weird. Nova was glad that she had Hayli to help her through the day. She also noticed Tenkai on the way into school. He had a black eye and a busted lip. He scurried off when he noticed the twins. This made them giggle. It wasn't until she got to class though that things started to get weird. Kyo, Yuki and Tohru kept asking her how she felt. It was nice at first, but they wouldn't stop. Then they started discreetly asking her what she remembered from Friday night. Kyo seemed forcibly happy. He didn't yell, get irritated at all, insult anyone or threaten to break anything. Both him and Tohru were more talkative than usual, replaying trip and hit to the head. Yuki just stared at her, which made her feel uncomfortable and caused her face to be flushed all morning.
At lunch time Nova was telling Shui and Hayli about her strange morning and replaying Friday's events. "So you're saying you were at their house, fell and hit your head, saw a bunch of animals that could talk and woke up with Yuki telling you it was a dream, and now they are acting strange?" Shui asked.
Nova and Hayli exchanged glances. "When you put it that way I sound insane." Nova commented.
"No. It just somehow explains a lot."
"What could that possibly explain?" Hayli inquired.
"Why their auras dont change." Shui stated plainly.
"What?" The twins asked in unison.
"Each person has an aura. Those auras change color according to mood , illness, things like that. Theirs pretty much stays the same color with slight variations. All the Sohma's that I've met do, even Haru."
"What does that mean?" Nova asked.
"I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that you read auras." Hayli admitted.
"Yep, but to be honest. I think they are hiding something." Shui said hesitantly.
"Like what? They are good people."
"It could be anything. You need to be careful." Hayli ordered.
"Of what? I'm pretty sure if they were murderers I would be dead by now." Nova commented.
"She's right Nova. I don't think they are murderers but something definitely isn't right." Shui told them. The three girls exchanged anxious looks. This was not going to end well.
Back in class Nova watched her three friends. Her eyes kept scanning over the silver haired boy watching her. Those purple eyes were so mysterious, they practically glowed as they looked right through her. He seemed to know something that she knew, but didn't know she knew. It was all so strange. Yuki Sohma was definitely hiding something from her and she was going to find out what it was.
