Sorry it took me so long to add these here. There's a few from this week I many tweak up a bit, but this one is pretty much exactly what I posted on Tumblr. Hope everyone enjoyed Swan Queen week!
Emma strolled down the street, hands in her pocket as she looked over her new town. She had moved to Storybrooke from Boston to take on the new sheriff position and was looking forward to a new beginning away from the hectic city and a life of emptiness. She just left the mayor's office and although flattered by the invitation to have dinner with the mayor and her husband, Emma wanted to get the layout of the land before she started her new job Monday. It was only her first day and the people of Storybrooke welcomed her with tipped hats and bright smiles. Emma laughed to herself, never seeing such kindness. It was like the town popped up from a Fairy tale.
Although Emma didn't accept the mayor's invitation, she still thought it would be nice to celebrate her new life with a nice bottle of wine. Normally, she would find a local pub and mingle a bit to get to know the people of the town better, but she was their new Sheriff and didn't think it would be appropriate to introduce herself to them with body shots. Emma browsed the quaint liquor store on the corner near her new apartment, not really knowing much about wine, but thought it was a nice adult way to congratulate her new chapter. The only bottle that stood out, was Casillero Del Diablo, mostly because it had a fun name and also because it was the last one of the shelf. It wasn't an expensive wine, but it had to be decent if the rest were all gone.
Emma stepped up to the shelf and reached out for the wine as another hand did the same, their fingers crossing as their hands grasped for the bottle simultaneously.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Emma said withdrawing her hand.
"That's all right, it's yours if you want it," a slender brunette replied with a smile that would make a sunset look bleak in comparison.
"It's ok," Emma went on, taking a quick once over of the woman. I'll just grab something else."
"Are you sure?" The woman asked raising her brow, "You seemed pretty set on that bottle. I saw your eyes whimper as you took your hand away."
Emma laughed as a few butterflies twirled around her stomach, enjoying the simple banter from a woman she didn't even know. "They did not." Emma replied as her next breath caught in her throat as their eyes locked.
"I haven't seen you before," the brunette began, helping Emma's muted state, "are you new in town?"
"Yes," Emma forced out as she extended her hand. "My name's Emma, Emma Swan. I'm the new Sheriff."
"Oh," the woman responded, her lips making a perfect oval, "so, you're Emma Swan."
Emma's face scrunched up unaware they were already acquainted. "You know who I am?"
"I'm the person who hired you," the woman responded with a grin. Now Emma was really confused. She just left the mayor's office and knew if the mayor looked like that, she would have accepted the earlier invitation to dinner. Emma glanced down at the woman's left hand out of curiosity, glad to see it bare and looked forward to further bump ins before even knowing her name. "I'm Regina Mills; I used to be the mayor. I resigned last week."
"Why?" Emma questioned before she could stop herself, "sorry that's none of my business," she added with a redden face.
But Regina only smiled. "It's a very time consuming job and I thought it was time to take a break. You know, see what else was out there." Emma nodded, not knowing what else to say, but really didn't want to leave just yet. "Well," Regina went on saving her once again, "since you're celebrating a new job, I have to insist you take the wine."
"Oh, no really, it's not that big of a deal." Regina snagged the bottle off the shelf and placed it in Emma's hands keeping their fingers laced for a moment before continuing, "Sheriff, I may not be mayor anymore, but I can assure you, I'm not a woman to be reckoned with. Ask anyone in town, I may have a welcoming smile, but when I make up my mind about something, I don't back down. Do you really want to argue with me?"
Emma laughed; part of her did, but she thought better of it and decided to test those waters another day, "No I do not Madam Mayor."
"Please, call me Regina."
Emma's heart fluttered. This was only her first day and already she had a good gut feeling about her new home. "Thank you Regina. And if you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to call the Sheriff's office."
Regina stared at her for another moment before stepping back. "I will. Thank you Sheriff, and welcome to Storybrooke."
