Dear Daddy,
Yesterday was Thanksgiving! Mommy and I went to Grandma Joan's house, because Mommy said it was "tradition."
Uncle Mac and Aunt Faith and Mark and Kylie came, too! They even brought their golden retriever, Sid, but Grandma made Sid stay outside.
Kylie and Mark and I had to sleep in the same room, and we talked and giggled until Grandma came in and yelled at us.
We had a really big Thanksgiving dinner! There was a huge turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce and green beans and fluffy mashed potatoes and gravy and super yummy rolls!
We all got dressed up. I was in my birthday dress, and Mommy wore the really pretty green dress, the one you said made her eyes sparkle.
Then, we all sat down, and we each had to say something we were thankful for. Grandma Joan started. She said she appreciated having family to celebrate holidays with. Uncle Mac was thankful for his job and his family. Aunt Faith was thankful for a roof over their heads and warm food to eat. Kylie said she was thankful for all of her dolls and friends. Mark was thankful for football. Mommy said she was so grateful for a brave, hardworking husband (Grandma Joan made a face, but I don't think Mommy saw) and a healthy daughter. I went last. It's really hard to pick something out to be thankful for. I'm thankful for lots of stuff: you, Mommy, Fi, Maddy, Erica, my dolls, and ballet. Finally, I said I was thankful for all the Marines and soldiers who were celebrating Thanksgiving without their families, just so they can keep us safe. For some reason, Mommy and Aunt Faith started to cry! I thought I said something wrong, but they both shook their heads, and then all of sudden, they reached over and hugged me. Uncle Mac said the blessing, and he said to take an extra moment of silence and pray for all the troops over in other countries who can't be with their families.
Finally, we got to eat! Uncle Mac carved the turkey. Everything was soooo yummy! I was sooo full! I thought I wouldn't be hungry until next Thanksgiving!
We cleaned up, and pulled out a bunch of board games. It was really fun, and I won at checkers, twice!
Then, Grandma Joan brought out all the deserts! We had pumpkin pie, pecan pie, apple pie, and fluffy whipped cream! I thought I was full, but as soon as I saw the deserts, my stomach started to growl again! I ate two pieces of pie, and it was so delicious!
This morning, when Mark, Kylie, and I got up, Uncle Mac was the only one here with us. He said that all the women went out shopping. I'm glad Mommy didn't make me go. That's way too early in the morning to go shopping!
I have to go, because Uncle Mac just made chocolate chip pancakes, and Kylie wants to me to watch cartoons with her. I love and miss you so much, Daddy! I hope you had a really good Thanksgiving!
Love,
Kelly
A/N: For all those not living in the US, Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday of every November.
