Sorry for not updating on here in a while. I haven't updated on Wattpad (the other place this story is) in a while either. I'm going to try updating once every couple weeks though because these chapters are always thought out and I like making them rather lengthy, which means they take a bit to write. Especially seeing how I normally work until 11PM and I come home not particularly feeling like writing. But hey! I updated.
Just a friendly reminder that I do NOT own Hawkeye or anything Marvel. I only own Megan as of right now.
One week passed since I had arrived at Stark Tower. Most of the days passed the same. Steve would come up every morning, get me, and we would walk down to breakfast. I would sit by Tony, and Clint and Natasha would leave almost as soon as I got down there. I'd nervously try shifting away from whoever sat on the other side of me. Well, unless it was Steve, which only happened once. Tony was normally too busy in his lab to find time to hang out with me, and so I normally took to walking around the tower with Bruce or Steve. If it was Bruce, we would walk in silence, and if it was Steve, we would just chat about the Warrior series, which he had indeed loaned me. I had just finished the first book, Into the Wild, and was reading the second one, Fire and Ice. He'd promised not to spoil anything, so we just discussed the events in the books I'd read.
The Wednesday marking my first week at the tower, everything changed. Nothing happened that was the same at all.
First off, instead of it being Steve who took me down to the tenth floor for breakfast, Tony surprised me. It was him.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him, extremely surprised.
"You don't seem happy to see me," Tony pouted. I knew he was only joking, I had gotten used to him joking pretty much all of the time. Although, there'd been a couple rare moments I'd seen him take things seriously. That had only happened twice, once when he'd caught me at night crying the third day here, because I was certain none of the Avengers, besides Steve and Tony anyways, liked me. He'd assured me that Clint was probably the only one who didn't like me, and to just ignore him because he obviously had a thorn stuck up his butt. The second time wasn't towards me. It was towards Bruce, who'd had a near Hulk experience after a prank by Clint and Sam. He'd yelled at the two of them for being so stupid and irresponsible and then tried to comfort Bruce, who'd been shaking horribly. It seemed as though those two were great friends, and I honestly couldn't help but feeling jealous of them. I wished I had that with someone. Maybe I did. Maybe I had a best friend and I just couldn't remember them.
"It's not that I'm not happy to see you," I insisted. "Just...surprised."
"What are you surprised about? You are my guest after all."
"You're normally busy in your lab," I muttered.
He looked hurt at that, genuinely hurt. But he didn't give me time to apologize because he said, "I've been trying to find a way to restore your memories. It's a lot of work Megs."
"Megs?" I arched an eyebrow curiously. That name seemed to mean something to me, even though I had no idea what it was. Maybe someone else had called me it somewhere in that memory that I just couldn't remember.
"I hope you don't mind the nickname," Tony replied, his brown eyes twinkling as normal.
"It's alright," I told him. "I just feel like you're not the only person who's ever called me that."
"Are you getting your memory back?" he asked, sounding a little hopeful.
"No," I replied.. "This happens sometimes with small things, or certain things. I just get the feeling it's not the first time it's happened to me, or like I've heard whatever it was before. Like, when I first met you. I was sure that I'd heard of the Avengers or Tony Stark or Iron Man before, but I had no idea when or how or why."
He brought me into a hug, which I knew was uncharacteristic of him. Then again, I thought of what Bruce had said to me about Tony thinking of me like a sister. But the question was why? We'd barely known each other. Why should he think of me as anything other than just another person?
"I'm going to get your memories back," he murmured to me. "I don't care if it's the last freaking thing I do. I will get your memories back."
Some may say it was odd that I believed him, and others may call me crazy for doing so, but then again perhaps I was odd and crazy. It wasn't like I would know, what with losing my memory and everything.
"Thanks, Tony," I sighed. It was nice to have him as a friend, it was nice to even have a friend at this point.
He pulled away from the hug then, and patted my back. "Well, let's get you down to breakfast!"
We headed down to the breakfast room, and my very strange day just happened to get even stranger. All the Avengers were down there, like normal, but when Tony sat down, it was next to Clint. Well, there was one seat between the two of them. And considering how all the other chairs were taken, it sort of meant that was the only place I could sit. Was Tony trying to be funny?
"C'mon Megs!" he said, smiling. There was something new in his voice, and his face was showing some kind of emotion, but I couldn't quite place my finger on it. Was he scheming about something? But if he was, what was it about?
I noticed Clint scowling a bit when Tony called me Megs. I wondered what his issue was. Why was he behaving so oddly about Tony calling me Megs? And why should he even care?
"Hey Megan," Natasha said, actually sounding nice. We hadn't really had any time to talk, and I had jumped to the conclusion that she was hostile just because she spent all her time talking to Clint.
"Hello," I murmured.
"We have a great day planned for you!" Steve said, smiling.
I was still just standing there, so I decided to sit down in the chair between Tony and Clint. I ordered what I normally ordered for breakfast, waffles. I liked them, especially when they were drenched in syrup.
"What are we doing today?" I asked cautiously. I wasn't sure if I wanted to know or not.
"Well, you're going to have fun. Bruce and Steve have told me about how you normally spend your days wandering around the halls, bored out your mind. Well, today, I have assigned the Avengers to helping you with making this day exceptional."
"What?" I asked. "I've never been bored. I like how I have my days set out."
"Sure you do," Tony said, smiling. "You don't have to pretend anymore Megs."
"Wait…" I tried saying. I thought Tony was my friend! Why was he doing this? Couldn't he see that I was perfectly content with how my life here at the tower was?
"Why don't we all go around and tell how we've decided to help make your day well?" Tony said, cutting me off. "Capsicle," he said, looking at the Captain. "Why don't you go first?"
"Well, umm," Steve said, looking a bit embarrassed to be put on the spot like this. "Natasha and I were going to train you on different aspects of fighting."
I leaned forward, actually finding it interesting. They were going to teach me to fight? I knew that I wouldn't be as good as them, after all one of them had super soldier serum and the other was a super spy that used to be an assassin (and as I understood, still served as one when needed). But to be able to learn how to fight from them would be exceptional!
"I'm in charge of teaching you technology stuff," Sam said, smiling. I looked at the young African American boy, and couldn't help but smiling. He wasn't nearly as scary as some of these other people around here, and he was just so...young. It was hard not to smile at him.
"You know a lot about technology?" I asked him.
"Does he ever!" Tony boasted. "I've taught him a lot, and he's just really good at learning stuff on his own! He excels, and he's one of the smartest people I know, although of course no one beats me." He chuckled a bit, still smiling.
"I will be honored to be teaching you all about Asgard and as you Midgardians call it, Norse Mythology!" Thor exclaimed, as usual really loud.
That seemed a bit interesting, perhaps I could live with being near Thor if it meant learning
about his background. Maybe I wouldn't find him so frightening afterwards.
"And I will be teaching you the art of meditation and staying calm. I should be an expert in the situation after all," Bruce said, chuckling. I kind of could understand what he meant, turning into a giant green monster that he couldn't really control must be hard. I didn't blame him for mediating.
Tony looked at Clint expectantly; he was the only person in the room (besides Tony anyways) who hadn't announced what they were doing. To be honest, I would've prefered if Clint had been left out of this, but I knew I couldn't ask Tony that. Not if he'd put so much work into this, and even though I had been against it at first, after learning what each Avenger would be teaching me, I'd become a bit interested.
"I'll be teaching you archery," Clint grumbled, not sounding too pleased about it. I was totally on his side too. I didn't want to be part of this archery lesson with the one Avenger who seemed not to like me at all.
"And I'll be mainly helping out with Sam, when I'm not busy trying to figure out how to get your memory back," Tony proclaimed, sounding rather pleased with himself. "However, I might randomly pop up in the other's if I'm bored. We'll try this out today, and if you enjoy it, perhaps we could do this every day or every other day. It's up to you."
"Twice a week?" I asked him.
"Sure Megs," he replied, and I noticed Clint giving him a stink-eye.
I nodded my head, and then looked down at what I was wearing, a pair of jeans and a dark green t-shirt. I figured that I should probably change into different clothes if I were to be fighting against Steve and Natasha today. I brought it up to Tony, who agreed with me, and he offered to walk me to my room.
When I entered the room to change, I stopped dead in my tracks, sure my eyes were playing tricks with me. After blinking several times and it still being there, I called out, "Tony! Come here!" I was sure there was fear in my voice, so I hoped he would show up fast.
He came into the room, saying, "What do-" he stopped there before changing his question. "How the hell did this happen?"
