Chapter 24

Rachel's POV

The sun was starting to show through the panes as dawn began to break. I was still in the library with a pile of books by my side on the table next to me. At the moment I was reading Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. When Felix told me that they owned nearly every book there ever had been I thought he had been joking. Now, I wasn't so sure. Even though Crowley's room was at the end of the library I hadn't been interested enough to go and snoop around and I also hadn't heard anyone go in there which meant Crowley has possibly been working all night. Just as I turned another page there was a knock at the door.

I groaned before saying, "Come in."

The door opened to reveal a woman with chestnut hair that went to her waist. She was a bit chubby but nothing too noticeable and she had a round, dainty face. She had a warm smile as she came over to me with a tray that had an assortment of breakfast things laid out.

"I hope you had a good reading session this morning, miss. Unfortuantely, Felix said he wouldn't be able to attend to you this morning due to the fact that the boss has a task for him to do. However, he has put you in my charge and I'll help you back to your room. The boss would like to speak with you after you are ready." The woman said, relaying it as if someone had told her it word for word; which was what Felix would have probably done.

I raised an eyebrow, "What's your name?"

She looked a little taken aback by the question but smiled afterwards, "It's Rosemary, miss. Glad to make your acquaintence."

I chuckled, "Don't call me miss; it makes me sound old. My name's Rachel and we don't need any of these formalities here either. Thank you for my breakfast. I'll be finished shortly."

Rosemary bowed her head a little, "I'll wait outside for about half an hour then."

"Wait outside? If you don't have any other tasks to do beside babysit me then you can sit in the library with me and we can get to know each other." I told her, while grabbing some of the breakfast that was on the tray.

Rosemary looked a little shocked at my request, "Mr. Crowley wouldn't like that at all. I'm a servant; that's all I am."

I rolled my eyes, "You're a human, demon, whatever. You're a being with rights. All you going to do is talk to me."

Rosemary bit her lip in concentration. After a while she seemed to decide that sitting with a human was worth the risk and sat beside me, "Are humans always this kind?"

I looked towards her with curiousity, "That's a strange question coming from a demon. And, to answer your question, nope. I'm just a rare breed."

This earned me a small smile from Rosemary.

"So, how old are you, Rose? I know demons have longer life spans than us humans." I said, while munching on a bagel.

"450 years old. I was a servant girl to a rich household in London before I did a crossroads deal." She explained.

"You made a crossroads deal to become a servant in another rich household in the afterlife? Yep, that makes plenty sense." I said, sarcastically.

Surprisingly, this made Rosemary snort a little before continuing, "I never thought I'd be a servant in the King of the Crossroads household. It was never part of the plan. I thought I'd become all powerful and rich once I'd turn a demon but I guess I hadn't done the proper amount of research."

"Sorry about your plans. To be honest, Crowley's job doesn't look like it's a whole load of fun. He has a hard time of it." I commented.

Rosemary nodded, "He's a great King though. I heard he's wanting to become King of Hell."

"I'm sure he will if he puts his mind to it." I said, choosing my words carefully.

"So, what about you? What's your life story? Who are your friends and family?" Rosemary asked.

My thoughts suddenly became gloomy. I hadn't heard of anything from my family and I didn't know if Siobhan was alive or not. I felt guilt wash over me all at once; I hadn't hardly thought of them since my time here. I had been so caught up in myself that hardly one thought of them had been thought of.

Rosemary seemed to sense my mood change since she decided to say, "We don't have to talk about them if you don't want to. We can talk about anything really."

I cleared my thoughts and then asked, "What would you like to find out?"

Rosemary had been my companion throughout the whole time I had eaten my breakfast. One positive point of staying at this place was that there was plenty of food to eat. When I had done she took away the tray from my table and disappeared for literally a second and then reappeared a second later,

"C'mon, we need to get you changed for the day."

I followed her through the winding corridors and I tried to remember the route in which we were taking so that I could remember my way back to my room. However, this failed since we seemed to be going through a number of hallways which made me dizzy trying to remember them. Just as I was about to ask how far we'd be to my room Rosemary stopped at a door,

"We're here. Mr. Crowley would like you to find a dress to wear for this afternoon since it would be the most appropriate. I'll come back in a few minutes to see if you're ready."

I nodded and stepped into my room. On my bed there was already dresses picked out for me to choose from. The colours ranged from red to mint green but the one that caught my eye was a pretty beige one with flower detailing on the chest and a white flowing skirt that went down below the knees. I put the rest of the dresses away apart from that one and went in search of shoes. Somehow, somebody knew my size in shoes which gave me the creeps but I didn't want to think about it as I choose some white Jimmy Choo flats that were just lying in the wardrobe. Then I went in search of bags which I found quite easily. My eye caught a bag that would go perfectly with the rest of my outfit and I grabbed it; it was a beige bag and it was big enough to fit anything that I need in. After all the organising I went into the en-suite bathroom and showered and got ready. I groomed myself before I put on the dress and the shoes and took a look at myself in the mirror. Hmmm, not bad. A knock sounded on the door.

"Come in." I said, for the second time that day.

Rosemary came strolling into the room and stopped short and stared. I became worried when she didn't talk for several minutes.

"I don't look that hideous, do I?" I asked, looking down at my dress.

"No, of course you don't. You should dress up more." Rosemary commented, and smiled.

I sighed, "Good, I thought I had made a terrible decision on my outfit because of the look you gave me. So, why did I need to dress up?"

Rosemary shook her head, "I can't tell you. Only Mr. Crowley can and he's waiting for us downstairs right now. Best not keep him waiting."

I nodded and grabbed my bag and followed Rosemary out of the room. Even in the day the hallway was dark since there was no windows in the walls. Again, I tried to remember where I was going and where everything was but I gave up after a few minutes of trying and just followed Rosemary. When we got near to where Crowley was I heard some vioces including a female British voice,

"I'm not going with some human to do shopping. What do you think I am? A servant? Oh, no offense Rosemary."

Rosemary had just walked into the room as that comment had been made and it made me have more of a view of what was going on. Crowley was sitting in one of the many chairs of the room looking bored out of his mind but when his gaze rested on me he smiled. I looked quickly across the room to see who else was there. Jace was there without Felix, being that Felix was on a task that Crowley had sent him on, and he was standing on guard. Then there was another woman in the room. This woman looked fimiliar but I didn't know why.

"Look, Bela, you work for me now. It's been 10 months since you went down under and now you've got to climb back to the top." Crowley said, as if he'd been saying this for the last hour.

The woman, Bela, rolled her eyes, "You haven't told us the reason for going shopping with her. She doesn't need two people to go shopping with her unless it was something important."

Suddenly my head started throbbing and a memory flashed before my eyes. It was a scene in season 3 and a girl similar to Bela was in it. She was with the Winchesters and, when another sharp pain had stabbed my head, I remembered her to be -

"Bela Tabolt." I gasped, as if I had been underwater.

Everyone was looking at me including Bela who asked, "Yes? Do I know you?"

Crowley narrowed his eyes at me, "This is one of the reasons why you have to go with her. She has a knowledge of this world that many don't. If she fell into the wrong hands it could be devastating."

Bela's eyebrow perked with interest, "Shouldn't Lucifer know about this? This amount of knowledge would interest him."

"That's exactly why we shouldn't tell him. No one of his minions should know about her either. That's why I want you two to be in charge of her safety." Crowley said, pointing at her and Jace.

"Shouldn't we trust Lucifer, though? He's our leader." Bela said, looking slightly confused.

Crowley sighed with frustraton and I decided to butt in so that he didn't have to explain, "Lucifer doesn't care about you demons. After he's finished destroying the human race he'll start destroying demons too."

Crowley gave me a look of repsect before continuing, "Just what she said. Now, can you four leave the room? I need to talk with Rachel alone."

There were a few murmurs and Bela gave me one last curious glance but, finally, they all shuffled out of the room.

Crowley sighed, "Sorry about Bela. She likes to ask too many questions."

I chuckled before sitting down next to him, "Don't worry. She was one of my favourite's in the show."

Crowley gave me a look of interest, "Really? Was I?"

A faint blush covered my cheeks, "You were my favourite."

A grin spread across his face but then he quickly turned serious again, "Look, I know this is probably something you don't want to do right now but it has to be done. Lucifer has ordered you to be at a dance tonight that he is hosting. Every supernatural being will be there; even the angels. It's a big deal in the supernatural world and because you have been seen to have a connection with me it has been ordered, by Satan himself, that you come along. I'm sorry in advance if you don't want to go but those are not my orders."

I sat quietly for a while and pondered over this new situation. In going to a supernatural event I was possibly going to meet many of the characters in future storylines and I didn't know if that were good or bad. However, I knew I didn't have a choice in this matter, as Crowley had stated, and I decided not to be a bitch, even though I felt like I wanted to be one, and decided to accept.

I shrugged, "As long as I'm well protected. You did just state that you didn't want me being put 'in the wrong hands' so why are you letting me go to a party that Lucifer's raoming free at?"

"Because I don't have much choice in the matter. If I had any choice at all you wouldn't be going. Also, I've got inside people in the party making sure that you'll be safe. Nothing's going to happen to you. Now, you need to go with Bela and Jace and go shopping for a gown." Crowley told me, while getting up from his chair.

"Why can't I just wear this to the party? It's fancy enough." I stated, indicating my dress.

Crowley blatantly looked me up and down and I saw that his expression formed one of approval, "Even though I would be totally fine with you wearing this I'm afriad it won't do, love. It's an extremely fancy party that we're going to."

"How fancy are we talking here? Just so that I can get an idea of what kind of dress I need to get." I said.

"Think of ball gowns." Crowley told me, and then smirked when he saw me gaping.

I shook my head to get the expression off my face, "And how am I going to pay for it?"

"Oh, don't worry about that. I've given Jace my credit card." Crowley told me as he walked out of the room and left me alone.

I was starting to panic when a voice from behind me said,

"So, are you going to stay here all day or are we going shopping?"

I twirled around to see Jace standing behind me with a usual look of boredom on his face and his hands in this pockets. I sighed and started to walk out of the room with Jace by my side.

Traveling with demons was an interesting experience; you didn't have to wait in traffic jams for one thing which was a plus. Bela tried to convince me of letting her easily steal something from one of the stores but I was firm and told her that if we had Crowley's money then we may as well use it. When we were in the fourth clothes shop Bela started asking questions,

"Are you and Crowley together?"

I nearly stopped in the middle of the isle I was so taken aback by that question, "What? Hell no! Why would you think that?"

Bela shrugged, "Just because he's so protective over you and he's never been like that with another human before. Also, there was definitely some flirting going on with you two early before we left."

"Isn't it rude to eavesdrop?" I questioned her, looking threw some of the ball gowns that were on display.

Bela rolled her eyes, "Does that really matter? I'm a demon, so you shouldn't expect anything less."

I sighed, "I suppose not. No, Crowley and I aren't together. And whatever you saw before we left I don't know what it was. Probably flirting on Crowley's part."

"Will you two girls stop gossiping and start looking for dresses already? It's killing me here just watching you talk." Jace complained.

But Bela and I rolled our eyes at the same time which we noticed and smirked at each other for doing so. Just as Bela was about to say something I spotted a dress out of the corner of my eye which appealed to me. It was a navy blue dress with sequences along all of my chest area and part of the body which made up a design of coral. I turned around to look at it fully and gasped at the beauty of it. The fabric of the skirt was in waves like a fish tale and it was a strapless dress also. It fit all the descriptions of being a perfect ball gown.

"Found the one that you like?" Jace interrupted my thoughts.

I nodded unable to search for the right words.

Bela chuckled, "C'mon, let's get you to try this on. If it doesn't fit we can get one of the servants to make it the right height."

"So, why does she need to try on if we don't have to? Women, I'll never understand them." Jace said, shaking his head before wondering off to probably check that nobody was watching us.

When we got to the changing rooms I choose a cubicle near the entrance so I could be near Bela for safety. I hung the gown carefullly before taking off my dress and shoes. When I put it on I realised it was too long for me but I remembered what Bela had said and ignored the length. I had a good look at the mirror to decide whether or not it was the one.

"Let me see then. I'm waiting anxiously out here." Bela's voice came floating into my cubicle.

I turned around and pushed the curtain aside. Sure enough, Bela was there as well as Jace. When they saw me Bela gave me a look of approval while Jace just gaped.

"Well, at least you have style. Now we just need to get you the essentials and some shoes and a clutch." Bela stated.

Jace shook his head, "What? More shopping? Crowley should give me a promotion for having to do this."

"Don't worry, I'll give him a good word for you." I said, before I began to close the curtain.

Before I did, however, Jace gave me a small smile in appreciation which rarely happened. I smiled back and then got to work with undressing and re-dressing myself. After we had bought the dress, which had cost an incredible amount, we went to find essentials which include shoes and a clutch. I wanted to keep things simple with the shoes and the bag and to have them white so it didn't take us long before we got some.

"Chanel shoes and a Rebecca Minkoff, whoever the hell she is, clutch? You're really going all out with Crowley's credit card." Jace commented, while we were paying for the stuff.

I shrugged, "Well, he gave me it so I might as well put it in good use."

Jace smirked and after we were done at the check out we went out into the parking lot and vanished back to the house.
