Chapter 26

Marthe's POV

There was a dead silence before Dean asked,

"Apocalypse? The apocalypse, apocalypse? The four horsemen, pestilence, $5-a-gallon-gas apocalypse?"

Bobby nodded, "That's the one. The rise of the witnesses is a - a mile maker."

Siobhan and I looked at each other with knowing looks while Sam asked, "Okay, so what do we do now?"

Dean shrugged, "Road trip. Grand Canyon, Star Trek Experience. Bunny Ranch."

"First things first. How about we survive our friends out there?" Bobby suggested.

"Great. Any ideas aside from staying in this room until Judgement Day?" Dean asked, sarcastically.

"It's a spell," Bobby said, while he pointed at the papers he had in front of him. "to send the witnesses back to rest. Should work."

Sam rolled his eyes, "Should. Great."

"If I translate it correctly. I think I got everything we need here at the house." Bobby said.

Dean looked at Bobby intently, "Any chance you got everything we need here in this room?"

"So, you thought our luck was gonna start now all of a sudden? Spell's got to be cast over an open fire." Bobby told him.

Sam's face lit up, "The fireplace in the library."

"Bingo." Bobby said.

"Great Bobby but how exactly are we going to do that?" Siobhan asked, with her eyebrow raised.

"That's just not as appealing as, uh, ghost-proof panic room, you know?" Dean agreed.

In the next few minutes Bobby, Sam and Dean prepared themselves to go out of the panic room. Just as they were ready Dean turned to me and gave me a gun while Sam did the same with Siobhan.

"Wait. You do know that I've never held a gun before, right?" I told Dean, giving him a worried look.

I was received with a kind one, "Hopefully you won't need to use it. Just remember to aim and pull the trigger."

I nodded and got back to the group. I looked at Siobhan with a worried look and she looked back looking as if she was trying to give me courage by just one look.

Bobby looked around, "Cover each other. And aim careful. Don't run out of ammo until I'm done, or they'll shred you. Ready?"

We all nodded and then headed out of the panic room. Siobhan and I kept looking around to see if there was any ghostly spirits that would appear but we were lucky and we all headed downstairs slowly. However, when we were reaching the bottom of the stairs we were stopped when someone blocked our way. There was a young man sitting on the bottom step that looked to be in his early 20's with curly hair. I looked towards Dean to see that he seemed to be in a sense of recognition of the body before he went onto comment,

"Ronald, huh? With the laser eyes? I wish I could say it's good to see you."

I glanced at Siobhan to see if she was remembering the part of the storyline that we were in but she seemed to be just as confused as I was. This character must have been in one of the really early episodes of the show.

"I am dead because of you. You were supposed to help me!" Ronald cried out at Dean.

Suddenly, Bobby took aim and shot with quick succession at Ronald. When the first bullet hit Ronald his spirit evaporated into the air.

"If you're gonna shoot, shoot. Don't talk." Bobby snapped at Dean.

Before Dean could retaliate Bobby started walking towards the living room and we all followed him. When we got into the room Sam immediately started to create a salt circle while Dean went over to light the fire. Siobhan and I split and go over to our respected men. As I approached Dean I placed a hand on his shoulder to show comfort but this made him jump slightly and he turned around,

"Oh, it's you. I thought it may have been another vengeful spirit come to attack me."

"Well, thank you for the vote of confidence Dean. I always thought I looked like a vengeful spirit." I joked, making him smile.

"You know what I mean. You're way prettier than any vengeful spirit." Dean commented, smirking at me.

I blushed, "Stop that. I'm not pretty."

"Stop what? I'm only telling the truth." Dean said, looking innocently at me.

Before I could comment any further Bobby came into the room and gave instructions to Sam,

"Upstairs, linen closet - red hex box. It'll be heavy."

"Got it." Sam nodded and then turned and smiled at Siobhan. Siobhan smiled back and followed him out of the room.

Just as the two of them left the room two young girls appeared. They looked familiar and I suddenly remembered that they were the young girls who had haunted Bobby and still were.

"Bobby." One of the girls started.

They were the epitome of creepy. Dean shot at the girls and it seemed to work as the girls disappeared.

"Kitchen. Cutlery drawer. It's got a false bottom. Hemlock, opium, wormwood." Bobby ordered us.

"Opium?" Dean asked, with a confused expression.

"Go!" Bobby urged us, and I took ahold of Dean's sleeve and tugged it.

We got to the kitchen quickly and Dean and I got to work on searching for the bottomless drawer. It's harder to search for than it sounded. After every few seconds Dean asked me,

"Have you found anything yet?"

My answer was always,

"No."

Without any warning the door to the kitchen closed with a bang. I shrieked a little in shock but returned to the task at hand.

"Dean? Marthe?" Bobby called from the living room.

"We're all right, Bobby! Keep working!" Dean called back to Bobby.

Suddenly Henrikson appeared next to Dean and I shrieked even more which made Dean put an arm out to protect me.

"Victor." Dean acknowledged.

"Dean..."

"I know."

"No. You don't."

"It's my fault you're dead. I left you behind. And the minute I heard that explosion, I thought, "I should have know." I should have protected you." Dean confessed, and I found his hand and squeezed it for comfort knowing that I wouldn't be of much use otherwise since Henrikson couldn't see me.

Just as Dean reached for the gun behind him Henrikson made it fly across the room.

"Unh-unh. Not so fast. You think you left and Lilith came and we all died in a beautiful blast of... white light? If only. 45 minutes." Henrikson said, staring right at Dean.

"What?" Dean asked, looking at him with a confused expression.

"Over 45 minutes. Lilith said she wanted to have some fun. The sectary was first. Remember her? Nancy, the virgin. Lilith filleted Nancy's skin off piece by piece. Right in front of us, made us watch. Nancy never stopped screaming." Henrikson told Dean, focusing on how he was behaving to this news.

"No." Dean said, shaking his head.

I squeezed his hand tighter; the insides of my stomach feeling as if they wanted to throw themselves back up. I knew which episode they were talking about and it had been one of my favourites but not in the usual sense of the word. The fact that Nancy had lost her life in such a way made me want to scream at the world complaining to it how unfair it was. However, I knew it wouldn't do me or Dean any good right now so I stayed silent in case the spirit could hear me and just not be able to see me. I didn't want to take the risk.

"I was the last." Henrikson told Dean.

"Victor..." Dean repeated, trailing off.

Henrikson made a sudden move and gripped onto Dean's jacket right on top of his heart. I moved away slightly but stayed by Dean's side for assurance.

"Tell me how it's fair. You get saved from hell - I die. Why do you deserve another chance, Dean?" Henrikson ranted, and gripped Dean's jacket even tighter.

The door to the kitchen banged open and in the doorway stood Sam and Siobhan. Sam shot at Henrikson and he immediately disappeared. Dean collapsed to the ground but I made sure that he's cared for before Sam arrived on the scene.

"You all right?" Sam asked, already knowing the answer probably.

"No." Dean answered, shortly.

"Let's go." Sam ordered, obviously not in the mood for any other explanations.

Sam and I both hauled Dean up and Siobhan grabbed the hex box and the other ingredients that they had found and started our way out of the kitchen. We had just got inside the salt circle when Ronald appeared to us again and Dean tried to quicly reload his gun while saying,

"Ronald. Hey, come on, man. I thought we were pals."

This made me want to roll my eyes but I stopped myself.

"That's when I was breathing. Now I'm gonna eat you alive." Ronald answered.

"Well... come on, I'm not a cheeseburger." Dean said, trying to lighten the tension in the room.

Dean quickly pointed his gun at Ronald and fired but missed completely since Ronald had already vanished before the bullet had chance to hit him. In the other room we heard Bobby begin to recite some Latin words and the instant he uttered those words the wind burst through the windows and the wind filled the room which made both Siobhan and I jump in surprise. However, to our dismay, the wind blew the salt and this made it so that we weren't protected anymore. Siobhan and I raised our guns just in case the spirts spotted sight of us but we stayed close to the boys. All the while Bobby was still trying to recite the spell even when Meg appeared and Sam shot at her. Ronald came back and the boys shot at him. There's a long line of ghosts while Bobby recites the spell and the boys made sure that they didn't get anywhere near the circle. Suddenly, Henrikson reappeared and took Dean's gun out of his hands when he was reloading and approached him. A jolt of nerves flew through my whole body and I turned to Bobby to see that he was trying his best to get through the spell. Dean grabbed another gun but found it empty when he tried to shoot at Henrikson with it and found no result. For his final solution Dean found an iron rod and used it to hit Henrikson which made him finally disappear. However, as soon as Henrikson disappeared Meg is back and pinned Sam onto a wall. Siobhan looked as if she could kill Meg but she knew that our actions won't be of much help to the boys now so she did the sensible thing and kept out of harms way. Meg trapped him on the wall with a desk which was too heavy for Sam to move.

"Sam!" Dean cried, after he saw the situation that his younger brother was in.

"Cover Bobby!" Sam ordered, still trying to struggle with the desk.

I saw that Bobby was still reciting the spell as Sam was still trying to get free from the desk. The two creepy girls appeared sitting on the desk that was trapping Sam and they seemed to be waiting for something which made them extra creepier, in my opinion. Meg suddenly appeared behind Bobby and plunged her hand into his back. Both Siobhan and I gasped as Bobby dropped the bowl of ingredients.

"Dean!" Bobby called out, and caught Dean's attention and, in turn, allowed Dean to catch the bowl before the ingredients hand time to hit the floor, "Fireplace!"

Dean quickly ran to the fireplace and threw the ingredients into the fireplace which made the flames burst into a bright blue. Finally, the ghosts all disappeared and Bobby fell to the ground.

"Bobby?" Dean instantly asked, and ran towards him with us lot at his side.

I saw that Sam was able to push the desk away to free himself and the I turned my attention back towards Bobby. Sam came over and helped Dean lift Bobby into a sitting position. We get a nod from Bobby and Siobhan and I sighed in relief that the whole thing was now over.

"You two girls sure you'll be okay with couches?" Bobby asked us, for what felt like the millionth time.

"We'll be fine, Bobby. Stop worrying." I smiled, and placed a comforting hand on his arm.

"Yeah, these two are tough old chicks we've got here. Glad you stayed with us after all." Dean told me, and gave me a slight smile.

I shrugged, "Anything that you need help with and I'll be there."

"One thing that's puzzling though. Why did the spirits not notice you two? I mean, they noticed Bobby but with you two they completely blocked you out." Sam said.

"Probably because we're from another universe, maybe?" Siobhan suggested, and shrugged a little.

"That could be a solution but, come on, let's go to bed. All of this thinking is making me tired." Bobby complained, while he laid down on the couch.

We all chuckled and laid down oin the sofas. All of us, that is, apart from Dean. He made an excuse to say that he wasn't tired but I decided not to persist and to keep my eyes open to see what was about to happen in the storyline. As soon as Sam and Siobhan were asleep there was a familiar swooshing sound and Castiel's voice came from out of the darkness,

"Excellent job with the witnesses."

"You were hip to all this?" Dean asked, his voice grew slightly strained.

"I was, uh, made aware." Castiel informed, obviously starting to feel slightly uncoomfortable.

Dean snorted, "Well, thanks a lot for the angelic assistance. I almost got my heart ripped out of my chest."

"But you didn't." Castiel stated.

"I thought angels were supposed to be guardians. Fully wings, halos - you know, Michael Landon. Not dicks." Dean went on.

"Read the Bible. Angels are warriors of God. I'm a soldier." Castiel explained.

"Yeah? Then, why didn't you fight?" Dean questioned him.

"I'm not here to perch on your shoulder. We had larger concerns." Castiel said, in his gravely voice.

"Concerns? There were people getting torn into shreds down here! And, by the way, while all this is going on, where the hell is your boss, huh, if there is God?" Dean argued, taking a step towards Castiel.

"There's a God." Castiel stated, as if it was going to settle the argument.

"I'm not convinced. 'Cause if there's a God, what the hell is he waiting for, huh? Genocide? Monsters roaming the earth? The freaking apocalypse? At what point does he lift a damn finger and help the poor bastards that are stuck down here?" Dean finished his rant.

"The Lord works..." Castiel began but got interrupted by Dean saying,

"If you say "mysterious ways" so help me, I will kick your ass. So, Bobby was right... about the witnesses. This is some kind of a... sign of the apocalypse."

Castiel nodded, "That's why we're here. Big things afoot."

"Do I want to know what kind of things?" Dean asked.

"I sincerely doubt it, but you need to know. The rising of the witnesses is one of the 66 seals." Castiel explained.

"Okay. I'm guessing that's not a show at Seaworld." Dean joked.

"Those seals are being broken by Lilith." Castiel continued, ignoring Dean's joke.

"She did the spell. She rose the witnesses." Dean said, the sounding of realisation in his voice.

"Mm-hmm. And not just here. 20 other hunters are dead." Castiel told him.

"Of course. She picked victims that the hunters couldn't save so that they would barrel right after us." Dean explained.

"Lilith has a certain sense of humour." Castiel agreed.

"Well, we put those spirits back to rest." Dean said, shrugging a little.

"It doesn't matter. The seal was broken." Castiel tried his best to explain.

"Why break the seal anyway?" Dean questioned.

"You think of the seals as locks on a door." Csstiel stated.

"Okay. Last one opens..." Dean played along, trying to get an answer off Castiel.

"Lucifer walks free." Castiel stated again, staring at Dean.

There was silence for a few moments before Dean continued,

"Lucifer? But I thought Lucifer was just a story they told at demon Sunday school. There's no such thing."

"Three days ago, you thought there was no such thing as me. Why do you think we're here walking among you now for the first time in 2,000 years?" Castiel questioned.

"To stop Lucifer." Dean answered, slowly.

"That's why we've arrived." Castiel said, nodding.

"Well.. bang up job so far. Stellar work with the witnesses. That's nice." Dean said, sarcastically.

"We tried. And there are other battles, other seals. Some we'll win, some we'll loose. This one we lost. Our numbers are not unlimited. Six of my brothers died in the field this week. You think the armies should just follow you around. There's a bigger picture here. You should show me some respect. I dragged you out of hell. I can throw you back in." Castiel told Dean.

Castiel suddenly vanished leaving Dean alone in the room. I quickly shut my eyes in case he notices but as soon as I do I am being woken up by Dean.

"Morning princess." He smirked.

It's bright outside so I must have been asleep longer than I had realised.

A few minutes later Sam is questioning Dean,

"You all right? What's wrong, Dean?"

"So... You got no problem in believing in... God and Angels?" Dean questioned Sam.

"No, not really." Sam answered, raising any eyebrow.

"So, I guess that means you believe in the devil." Dean rationalised.

"Why are you asking me all this?" Sam asked, looking curiously at his brother.

Both Siobhan and I looked at each other knowing what was about to happen. We were going to be going on a whirlwind of an adventure.
