Chapter Five
My Date With A Half Vampire
Nessie
I awoke the next morning and was surprised that my parents didn't move me. Nahuel was still asleep and we had both slipped down while asleep. His head was in my lap and my head was resting upon his back. I smiled and slowly lifted myself wincing from the stiffness, not a entirely comfortable place to sleep.
"Good morning." Alice said cheerfully. "We decided to leave you as you were last night, you both looked so comfortable." She smiled at me and I smiled back I loved my aunt.
"I suppose I was, I sort of dozed off." I replied and she smiled at me and Nahuel who was still snoring soothingly softly.
"So what are you doing today?"
"I was thinking about going to Claire's house I haven't seen her for a while and I would like to. As my only completely human friend I need to see her more often to get a dose of what most people consider normal." I replied and she nodded.
She lifted Nahuel gently and set him back down upon the couch after I got up. He looked comfortable enough, after Alice set him down he laid out on his back one hand hanging off the couch. I stopped myself from covering him with a blanket, he was no colder then I was and I did not want to disturb him any more then was necessary.
I went to the cottage changed into fresh clothing brushed my hair and went to my car. I drove over to Claire's house and knocked on the door. Claire's mother Amelia answered smiling at me.
"Claire is upstairs." She said smiling and I nodded.
"Thank you." I replied and went upstairs to where Claire's door was. I knocked and she thrust it open smiling widely and practically pouncing upon me in her eagerness to give me a hug.
"Nessa." She said and I smiled hugging her back.
"Clairey." I replied and she grinned.
"Do you want to dance or we could talk or even go by the ocean and sit on the beach bank." I laughed I had forgotten about Claire's ability to talk at a mile a minute.
"Whatever you want to do is fine, I have much of the day." I replied and she grinned.
"Dancing then?" She asked and I smiled back.
"That sounds like fun." I replied and her smile became wider. She put on her CD and together we launched into a ballet routine, I studied under the tapes my parents bought for me and Claire took classes in town. I also knew the more formal older dances from Jasper and I really enjoyed it.
We eventually finished winding up laughing and gasping for breath on Claire's bed. "Could you teach me some of those old ballroom dances they are so much fun."
"Sure." I replied and she put in one of my CD's high sweeping music fit for those times and for the dancing. I smiled and taking her hand we laughed as we swept about the small room. We finished the song and went onto another, I enjoyed the way the music made me feel. I felt beautiful and as light as air dancing with Claire. W finished up only after the CD started to loop and we sat down on the bed again tired but happy.
"So how is it almost being an adult?" She asked me curious.
"Much the same as it did being a child." I replied trying and failing not to sigh.
"So, have you ever thought of wearing makeup?" Claire asked and I shrugged.
"Sometimes but it seems more a pain then its worth." I replied and she smiled shyly.
"I've thought of it, there is a boy in my class that I like and he likes me which is surprising."
"Why Claire your beautiful and funny." I said and she shrugged.
"I think that only you and Quil's friends think so." She replied and I smiled.
"Well then if your family doesn't love you for you who does?" I asked and she nodded. "I think that this boy however isn't looking for a girlfriend, you can't be sure until he asks you out. Its more likely he is looking for a friend, you're a bit young for boyfriends anyway aren't you?"
"Thanks Claire you always know how to cheer me up and I think of you as a sister." She said. "A much better sister then Sarah anyway, you know she told me to grab him while I could?"
"Well your sister is very, um forthcoming for her age, that would most probably not be such a good idea for you. Be what you want to be, dress how you want it doesn't matter what other people think of you and you'll find more people interested in you if you're yourself." She smiled and gave me a quick hug. "Now why don't we go to the park?" I asked and she grinned getting on her shoes as I did the same.
We walked together to the park and sat on the swings for a while. I smiled at Claire and shouted. "Swing joust!" She laughed and attacked me sideways first before could. I shifted so that I was riding the swing sideways and kicked off with my feet. Claire was laughing as I hit her or she hit me. Our swings swung backwards and we pushed forward again this time we both went to the side although I was able to grasp Claire's hand on the way back. I let go of Claire and she went flying to the side we were both laughing and I clapped her hand on the way forward again.
It wasn't until a while later that we realized that we had company, most of the pack was watching us and I laughed dismounting and going over to where they were sitting in a tire. "Surely you have better things to do then watch two girls hit each other with swings." I said and Jake gave me one of his lopsided grins.
"I'm just glad you're so close that's all." He replied and I smiled at him.
"So am I, Hey Claire come on! The pack is here." I said and Claire dismounted and came over to where the pack was sitting.
"Hi guys." She said and smiled at them. "Beautiful day isn't it?"
"It is Nessie seems to like the sun well enough, she's almost glowing one would say." Embry said and received a jab to the ribs given out by Jacob. I laughed as he winced and stuck out my hand to Jake who slapped it.
"Thank you Jake for defending my honor." I said theatrically fake swooning, Jake being who he was, laughed at my acting and caught me easily enough. "My hero." I said dramatically.
"Whenever the lady desires it." Jake replied and set me on my feet to kiss my hand. I smiled as Jake rose, I liked these little games that had been going on as long as I could remember.
I caught sight of the time on Jacob's arm and stared at it, it was four o'clock four hours later then I thought the time was, this often happened when I was with Claire. "I should be getting back." I said and Claire smiled.
"See you later then." She said and I nodded. I got into my car and left for the cottage. I put on one of the short dresses that Alice had gotten for me and some comfortable but also beautiful black shoes. I put my hair up in a style that Rosalie insisted everyone was wearing when she was sixteen and had taught me how to gather up my hair in the elegant late twenties style.
I walked out and saw Nahuel looking very handsome in a suit with a flowing tail in back. He smiled at me and bowed kissing my hand. "You look beautiful." He said and I smiled.
"You don't look half bad yourself." I replied and he laughed.
"Can I use your car, I want to surprise you with where we are going." He said and I nodded. We walked to my car together and he took the keys from me and I slid into the passenger seat in the car. Together we drove in companionable silence until we reached the town hall of Port Angelos. Classical music was playing and taking my hand we went together into the hall after Nahuel paid a small fee to get in. I loved the waltzes and smiled as Nahuel swept me up in one. He was excellent as a dancer and the old people stepped aside and let us dance.
Nahuel smiled at me his eyes warm seemed to smile as well. I smiled back as we whirled about the hall both of us enjoying the dances. We went through the next song and the next pausing only for the applause that the end of each song brought. Pretty soon we were both laughing as we danced.
"Alice hinted that you might like dancing, but I never thought you would be this fine at it." Nahuel complemented and I smiled at him.
"You are also a very fine dancer." I replied as we continued to dance about the hall, Alice was right it was fun. We danced for an hour or two and then he smiled at me. "Are you hungry?" He asked and I nodded. "Food was included in the ticket so why don't we eat?" He asked and I smiled.
"Food sounds good." I replied and he smiled at me, together we went to the table to get some of the food. It was served buffet style and we both took small portions and a goblet full of red punch as nether of us could even attempt to drink something stronger. Nor did I particularly want to as Emmett had once purchased some whisky and my first drinking experience fast became my last. I wasn't completely sure if that wasn't his plan in his first place. He could be even more protective then my father or Jake at times which was saying something as they weren't exactly unprotective themselves.
We sat down to eat and I smiled at him as we both ate chicken mashed potatoes and green beans. I suppose he was as unfond of mutton in its cooked form as I was. We finished eating and went back to the dance floor for a further hour or so before returning to the car as my father set a time limit. I got the feeling that none of my family approved of my choice to go out with Nahuel, but they agreed that I should have more freedom and date once I stopped growing. As Nahuel knew all about half vampires it was alright for me to date him while still ageing.
I smiled at him driving the car back to the house at a pretty fast pace but nowhere near as fast as any of my realitives. His eyes were fixed on the road ahead and I would not have been surprised if we reached the reservation in twenty minutes. "I had fun tonight." I said and he smiled.
"So did I your company is very enjoyable." He replied companionably. "You're a wonderful dance partner."
"Thank you, so how do you like Forks?" I asked and he smiled.
"Well enough, I've already got your opinion on that matter, you clearly enjoy where you live and the people you live with." He replied and I nodded.
"Sometimes I think about traveling, but I realize all I could want is here." I replied.
"All but a mate." He replied and we both went scarlet for a moment.
"What seven year old is ready to settle down? I prefer to learn more of life before I have to live it if you get my meaning." I said and he smiled.
"I forgot about your age in truth, you seem remarkably older then only seven years and well if I wanted a mate it would be someone like you. Caring, compassionate, a comidan and that is only the C's of what you are." He said and I blushed smiling at him.
"Thank you." I said and laughed softly.
"That too is very endearing, your laugh is very beautiful and I love hearing it." He said.
"I think that you have a few more C's to describe you, including complementary." He laughed at that.
"I think you mean complimenting as complementary means free, or that's how its taken more often then not, although I don't go around reading dictionaries as there are more interesting things to study with your time. As apposed to knowledge or language that might change within the next twenty to thirty years." He said and I smiled.
"I think most agree, more often then not you do not see people on the street with their faces pressed into dictionaries." I said and he laughed I loved his laugh deep throaty and companionable, making me join along with him We laughed together for a time before Nahuel pulled down the road to the cottage.
We got out together and went into the cottage. "I had a wonderful time tonight." Nahuel said and I smiled.
"So did I." I replied and leaned forward like the people in the movies did. He smiled and leaned forward in reply. His lips were surprisingly warm and giving and we both blushed but that didn't stop us kissing a second time. Kissing Nahuel wasn't quite the explosiveve experience kissing Jacob was, but at the same time it was equally wonderful. I smiled at him before going into my room and changed into my nightclothes.
I got into bed and drew the covers over me. Sleep however was hard to attaine as I was still excited by the music and the dancing. I eventually however was able to fall into a fitful slumber.
Well was it cute, cavalier or should I just take cyanide? I won't be cantankerous but I love critics!
