Chapter 31
Rachel's POV
I woke up feeling refreshed and ready for the day after my long sleep in which I had needed after the night at the ball with Crowley last night. I looked over at the alarm clock that was on my bedside table to find out that most of the morning had gone by and it was 11am. I chuckled as I pulled my duvet off me and set to work in finding a dressing gown to cover myself with. It didn't take me long to find a bright pink fluffy dressing gown which I shrugged on and quickly tied up at my waist. I then found some beige comfy looking slippers and slipped those on my feet and was pleasantely surprised to find out that they fitted perferctly. I quickly brushed my hair and headed downstairs towards the kitchen to see if I could get some breakfast so late in the morning.
"I see someone's had her beauty sleep." A voice from behind me commented.
I turned around and saw Balthazar leaning on a wall with a lazy grin.
"Glad to know that you approve of my appearance this morning." I joked.
"Well, seen as you met my brother last night, I was worried as to how much sleep you'd be able to get after the encounter. He can be rather intimidating when he wants to be."
I shrugged, "He was trying to be intimidating but I'm afraid it didn't work on me. He's going to have to try a little harder than he did last night."
Balthazar grinned, "Good to know that you're not easily shaken. I'm guessing you were going to the kitchen? I'll go with you."
We walked the last part of the journey in silence with occasional glances towards one another. Even though I wasn't attracted to Balthazar he was nice to look at once in a while. We ended up in the kitchen where the chefs were preparing the lunch options for me. I went up to one of them and asked,
"I'm afraid I've overslept. It wouldn't be too much trouble in asking for breakfast options at the moment instead of lunch options? I can have lunch in a few hours and then have a late tea. I hope this doesn't affect your rountine at all."
"Not at all, madam. Just tell us what you would like and we'll make it for you."
"First of all, don't call me madam; it makes me feel old. And second of all, thanks."
The chef chuckled, "If not madam then what do I call you?"
"You could call her 'Your Majesty' since she's with the King of the Crossroads right now; your boss." Balthazar commented, and gave me a smirk.
I sighed, "You can call me Rachel but since you know my name I should at least know yours."
"My name?" The chef asked, as if that question was a strange question to ask.
"Yes, your name. You know, that thing that people call you by." I said slowly.
"Of course I know that, ma- Rachel. It's just that the boss never bothers with our names. We're just lowly servants to him." The chef explained to me.
"Well, you maybe to him but you're not to me. I need names to remember who people are." I reasoned with him.
The chef looked at me with puzzlement before saying, "My name's Daniel. Pleased to make your acquaintance."
"There, that wasn't so hard was it?" Balthazar told Daniel in a patronising voice.
I glared at Balthazar quickly before I turned my attention back to Daniel, "Pleased to meet you too, Daniel. Now I'll know who to go to when I need a snack of something. For breakfast I'd like to have pankcakes, muffins and some Danish pastries or anything sweet that you'd like bake. I have a sweet tooth this morning."
"Of course, we'll get something ready for you in the next few minutes." Daniel told me, with a smile.
I smiled back, "Great. I'll be with Balthazar and Crowley at wherever Crowley is this morning. I'm sure you'll be able to find us."
Daniel nodded and got back to work.
"Man of a few words that one. It's a miracle you got him to talk." Balthazar commented, as we made our way out of the kitchen and into one of the many living rooms.
I shrugged, "Maybe I'm just good with people, demons, whatever. He seemed like a nice guy to me."
"Oh, don't get me wrong, he's definitely nice; nice for a demon anyway. He's just not the chatty one."
"Well, shock horror news Balthazar. Not everyone is as chatty as you." I joked, and gave him a smirk.
Balthazar rolled his eyes and we carried on through the living rooms in search of Crowley. It didn't take us long since we found him in the third living room that we came across. He was as smartly dressed as he was last night and he was sitting in one of the comfy looking armchairs with a glass of what was probably Craig in his hand.
"A bit too early to be drinking, isn't it?" I asked, standing next to him.
"A bit too late to be dressed like that, isn't it?" He mimicked me.
"Someone's rolled out of bed the wrong way this morning." Balthazar commented, looking at Crowley curiously.
"Crowley? What's wrong?" I asked, looking at him with concern.
Crowley sighed, "Wondering why Lucifer is so interested in you. It's been plaguing my mind all night."
Balthazar looked more alert when his brother was mentioned, "You think that my brother has a plan involving Rachel? I could track him down and see what he's up to."
"No, no. We should just try and calm down and think about this rationally." I said, looking at them both with wary glances.
"This is my brother we're talking about. You don't know what he's capable of." Balthazar told me.
"I'm afraid I have to agree with Balthazar, as much as it grieves me to do so. Balthazar, would you get Gabriel's support in tracking down your brother? We need to know why he's tracking Rachel and what his intentions are." Crowley said, looking at Balthazar.
"Of course." And with that Balthazar vanished out of the room.
Crowley sighed before motioning me to a chair, "Well, aren't you going to sit down?"
I bunched up my dressing gown and sat down opposite Crowley.
"So, what I want to know is how Lucifer came to know of me since you were so opposed of him knowing about me."
Crowley looked to be deep in thought and when I asked he looked slightly dazed at the question before he answered,
"What? Oh, that. Well, love, I hate to tell you, and please don't get all upset by it since he didn't mean any harm by it, but it was all Gabriel's doing."
I sighed with disappointment, "Well, I can't say I'm not surprised. Silently disappointed maybe."
"Silently? Strange word to describe an emotion." Crowley jested.
I rolled my eyes, "You know what I mean. Gabriel will probably get a telling off when he next shows his face."
Crowley chuckled, "There's my girl. Always one to lighten the mood."
"I'm glad I can be of some use."
"Breakfast has been served, sir and madam." Daniel's voice came floating into our conversation.
I looked around sharply to see a table laid with many breakfast assortments and juices that I could ever need.
"Daniel, you needn't have gone to all this trouble." I gasped.
I could see out of the corner of my eye that Crowley had raised his eyebrow at me; probably wondering how it was that I knew one of his chefs.
"It's alright, miss. Didn't want to starve you." Daniel joked, looking kindly at me.
"Well, you've given me plenty of food to last a mellenium so I can assure you that this is not going to starve me quickly." I told him, smiling at me.
Daniel proceeded to walk out of the room just as I got up and went over to the served food. Crowley followed behind me and commented,
"The boy did good. I never really noticed him before now. Maybe I should give him a promotion."
"You do that." I said, while picking at an assortment of the breakfast foods, "It'll look good on you. Give favour towards you."
"Give favour towards me? Do I need favour right now? They know who their boss is; they shouldn't need any incentives other than that knowledge." Crowley told me.
"I'm just saying that you should make sure that the knowledge of you being their boss stays put with them by rewarding them every so often. It doesn't have to be big rewards or regular either; just enough for them to know who's boss." I explained, shrugging.
"Hmm, perhaps. Right now though, we have more pressing matters at hand besides the loyalty of my subjects. I need to reasearch as to why Lucifer has interest in you. We need to reasearch how you came into this land and what you're powers could mean for this world."
"Well, there's only one way we can do that." I said, taking my breakfast things and then, seeing Crowley's confused expression, I went onto say, "have a day of research in the library, of course."
Crowley chuckled and offered me his arm which I accepted. In a moment we had vanished and settled down nicely in the library with my food next to me and the fireplace roaring in the background.
Hey guys! I'm back! Sorry about the hiatus! I've had exams and I had to revise and push this to one side. I finished my exams yesterday though so I am pretty much free from college. I have a couple of bits and pieces to do with college but they are minor. I still have yet to watch SPN finale so no spoilers please! I'll get to it within the next few days. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I'm going to try and get on with writing this fanfic after Friday since I have a writing deadline for Friday with my writing group but I promise to get on with this afterwards! Hope you all have a great end of the week/weekend! Toodles! x
