Chapter 35
Siobhan's POV
I followed Sam out of the motel room as Marthe stayed behind with Dean. I could tell that Sam was clearly upset about what had just happened inside the motel. Sam paced up and down while he ran his fingers threw his hair.
"Sam?" I asked, tentatively.
"Ugh, sorry, Siobhan. I'm just annoyed by Travis. And Dean. But mostly Travis." Sam explained.
I placed a hand on his arm and tried to make my voice sound soothing, "I understand. You're just looking out for Dean and trying to do the right thing. Travis wasn't helping out at all."
Sam smiled sheepishly, "I'm not trying to dislike Travis or anything. It's just his attitude towards human life that I don't agree with."
I nodded, "I know what you're trying to say. Dean can just be a bit too gullible, even if he won't admit it, sometimes to people he doesn't know. We'll just need to keep an eye on him and Marthe as well on this hunt."
"Of course. I know you're concerned with Marthe's well-being and she does seem to be taken with him." Sam chuckled.
"She would say the same thing about us." I commented.
Sam looked at me with a confused expression, "What?"
Before I could become embarrased Dean and Marthe came out of the motel with Travis following along behind them. They had weapons of every sort and when I saw this I cringed and gave a sympathetic look towards Sam and he returned the look with a smile.
"Sam, you and the girls are coming with me in the Impala. Travis is gonna ride with us but we'll do the talking." Dean explained.
I nodded and headed to the Impala with Sam following behind me. I saw that Dean and Marthe had held back to talk to Travis some more but Sam and I had made our way to the Impala and got in.
"Will you be alright with this hunt?" Sam asked me from the front.
"I'm sure we'll be fine. I've survived this far, haven't I?" I chuckled.
I heard Sam chuckle before the other doors opened and both Dean and Marthe got in. There was a silence for a few minutes as Dean revved up the car and drove down the road. After a while Dean said,
"All right, so we're gonna have a little chat with this guy which, you know... I'm down."
Dean stopped for a moment but Sam stayed silent. I knew that Sam would be feeling uncomfortable about this topic but I could not tell what his expression was from the mirrors available in the car.
"But I just want to make sure, if push comes, you're gonna shove." Dean continued.
"Meaning?" Sam asked in a steely tone.
"Well, odds are we're gonna have to burn this guy alive." Dean said.
"This guy has a name and a wife." Sam argued.
"Yeah, who we're probably gonna make a widow, okay? I mean, you heard Travis. He's gonna turn. They always turn." Dean said, obviously convinced by this argument.
"Well, maybe he won't. Maybe he can fight it off." Sam continued arguing.
"And maybe he can't, that's all I'm saying." Dean said, with a shrug.
"All right, we'll just have to see then, okay?" Sam resolved.
Dean sighed, "This is what I mean, Sam. You sure your emotions aren't getting in the way here?"
"What are you talking about?" Sam asked, confusion in his tone.
I saw Dean give a shrug, "You know, nice dude, but he's got something evil inside. Something in his blood. Maybe you can relate."
As Dean gave Sam a look I flinched at the message of that statement. I glared slightly at Dean's back before Sam suddenly said,
"Stop the car."
Marthe and I shared a look before Dean asked,
"What?"
"Stop the car or I will!" Sam declared.
As Dean and Sam shared a look between themselves, Marthe and I did the same. I had a feeling that Sam was finally going to speak his mind to Dean. I had the same urge to do that with Marthe but I decided against doing it now and to wait until we were somewhere more private. Dean pulled up alongside the road and got out with Sam, Marthe and I following his action. Sam went up to Dean with an angry expression on his face.
"You want to know why I've been lying to you, Dean? Because of crap like this." Sam explained.
Marthe and I watched as the boys walked and paced in front of the Impala.
"Like what?" Dean asked.
I gave an exasperated sigh as Sam explained, "The way you talk to me, the way you look at me like I'm a freak."
Sam walked past Dean and then turned around to face him with a pissed off expression on his face. Marthe and I back up a little just in case this started a fight between the brothers.
"I do not." Dean exclaimed.
"You know, or even worse, like I'm an idiot!" Sam carried on.
Sam moved forwards towards Dean and he moved up so close that he was almost right in Dean's face.
"Like I don't know the difference between right and wrong!" Sam said.
Sam backed down and took a few paces away from Dean. When Sam turned around to face Dean again, with his hands on his hips, Dean had his face turned to the ground.
"What?" Sam asked.
Dean turned his face upwards towards Sam and by the tone of his voice Marthe and I could tell he was getting angry,
"Do you know the difference, Sam? I mean, you've been kind of strolling a dark road lately."
"You have no idea what I'm going through. None." Sam argued.
"Then enlighten me!" Dean exclaimed, throwing up his arms for affect.
"I've got demon blood in me, Dean! This disease pumping through my veins, and I can't ever rip it out or scrub it clean! I'm a whole new level of freak! And I'm just trying to take this - this curse... and make something good out of it. Because I have to." Sam ranted. When he stopped he looked like he had put a lot of effort into that mini speech since he was somewhat out of breath.
There was silence for a few minutes as Sam looked to the ground before Dean decided,
"Let's just go talk to the guy."
Sam replied with a scoff.
"I mean Jack. Okay?" Dean corrected himself, obviously he had got the hint from Sam's scoff.
Marthe and I waited with both of us holding our breaths. After a moment Sam finally nodded in agreement and we all got into the Impala again and carried on down the road.
It had been a silent journey to the Montgomery's house. Marthe and I kept shooting each other and the boys looks but nothing was said. We could tell that there was a lot of tension between the two brothers right now and we didn't want to upset them any further. We needed them to be in this hunt together so we could sort out the problem and move on. We didn;t want to add any further injuries or complications to this hunt. We arrived at the Montgomery's house and found that it was a normal, American family home that looked nothing out of the ordinary in the neighbourhood. We all get out of the Impala and took a look around.
"Travis better be right about this one," Dean commented, "I drove a long way to look at something ordinary."
Marthe chuckled but then stopped herself. She obviously thought that it was not appropriate being in the situation we were in. Dean, however, thought the opposite and gave her a smirk in appreciation to her reaction. I rolled my eyes and followed Sam as he made his way towards the house.
"You think Jack's going to survive?" Sam asked me, when we were out of ear shot of Dean and Marthe.
I shrugged, "I don't know, Sam. I can only remember odd episodes and main plot points. Individual case plots can be harder to remember but I'll try my best."
Sam nodded, "I know I'm asking a lot out of you but since you have the power to have flashbacks, or visions of our future, or whatever it is you want t call them, you can't blame me for wanting to use it to it's fullest capacity."
"If anything pops up I'll tell you. I promise." I added, as an afterthought.
Sam smiled at me as we neared the front door of the Montgomery's with Dean and Marthe following us close behind. However, when we neared the house we found that Jack Montgomery was in his back garden and that there was a gate attached to the front of the house as the entrance to the garden. Sam looked back at me and the others and nodded in encouragement to go near the gate. Something felt off when I took in the appereance of Jack Montgomery. He was standing in his garden with a hose in one hand and a completely blank look on his face. Sam moved forward towards him but Jack made no movement in recognising that he was there.
"Jack Montgomery?" Sam asked.
Instead of an immediate reaction Jack turned his head slowly towards the boys and didn't say anything. This unnerved me a little and I kept as close to Sam as possible.
Sam continued, "I'm Sam Winchester. This is my brother; Dean."
Jack still didn't say anything but he fully turned around to face them as the boys walked up to him.
"We need to talk." Sam explained.
Jack looked at both of the boys before he finally asked,
"About?"
"About you. And how you're changing." Sam explained, calmly.
Jack gave Sam a confused expression, "Excuse me?"
"You're probably feeling your bones move under your skin. And your appetite's reaching, you know, "hungry hungry hippo" levels. How am I doing so far?" Dean asked, in a joking voice.
"Who the hell are you guys?" Jack said.
"We're the people who know a little something about something." Dean explained.
"We're people who can help. Please, just hear us out." Sam pleaded.
For the next few minutes Sam explained everything about the rougarou and waht Travis had told us. Jack listened to us intently and he looked even more confused then when Sam had started explaining it to him. When Sam had finished there was silence for a few minutes before Jack asked,
"A-a what?"
"A rougarou. Sounds made-up, I know, but believe me, it's not." Dean commented.
"Alright, I've noticed certain things. I mean, some strange things. But I just, I-I don't know. I'm... I'm sick or something." Jack said, obviously he trying to make excuses so that he wouldn't accept the real thing.
"Your father was one of these things." Sam explained.
Jack turned towards Sam before Sam explained, "Your real father. He passed it on to you."
"No. Are-are you listening to yourselves? You s-sound like you're-" Jack started before he was interrupting by Dean,
"Skip the whole "you guys sound crazy", shall we? You're hungry, Jack. You're only gonna get hungrier."
"Hungrier for?" Jack asked, looking at Dean suspiciously.
"Long pig. You know, a little manburger helper, may have crossed your mind already." Dean told him.
"No." Jack said, shaking his head.
"It doesn't have to be like this, Jack. You can fight it off." Sam told him, in a soothing voice.
"No." Jack said, again.
"Others have." Sam said.
"We're not gonna lie to you, though. It's not gonna be easy. You're gonna feel like an alcoholic swimming around in whiskey. But I'm telling you. You gotta say no... or-" Dean explained to Jack before he got interrupted.
"Or what?" Jack interrupted him.
"You feed once, and it's all over. And then we'll have to stop you." Sam explained to him.
"Stop me? My dad, did, uh, somebody stop him?" Jack asked.
"Yes." Sam stated.
Jack started to look angry and warned us, "Get off my property right now. I see you guys again, I'm calling the cops."
Marthe and I glanced at each other with worried expressions on our faces. We hoped that this wouldn't turn into a fight.
"Jack, your wife, everybody you know, they're in danger." Sam told him, trying to make Jack listen.
"Now!" Jack shouted, which made the neighbour notice our presence.
Sam sighed and motioned for all of us to follow him. Marthe and I walked behind the boys but we heard Dean comment,
"Good talk."
We both looked at one another knowing what was to come.
