Chapter 37

Rachel's POV

Mystic Falls

It had been a day since Balthazar, Gabriel and I had landed in Mystic Falls and started to gain knowledge of the people of the town, even though I knew of everybody already, and I had rented a place to stay for the next few weeks and I was currently filling in application forms for jobs to pay for the rent.

"Dear Sir/Madam, please may you consider me for the position of... blah, blah, blah." Gabriel looked at me with a confused expression, "I don't know why you're putting this much effort into this, sweetheart. We could just easily give you the money to pay rent. I know Crowley would too."

"Go big or go home." I answered him, "And don't call me sweetheart."

"I'll call you cupcake then. And why exactly 'go big or go home'? I don't see the connection here." Gabriel said.

"Look, if I don't get a job people around here will start to wonder. I don't look young enough to go to high school and they would wonder where all the money is coming from if I don't have a job or went to college without any relations being nearby helping me pay my fees. Plus getting a job means I can liaise with my colleagues which would be the Mystic Falls residence." I concluded.

"She has a point, brother." Balthazar admitted, with a shrug.

"I thought we were supposed to be protecting her from the big bad. Not allowing her to wonder off to wherever she wants to go." Gabriel argued.

"What are we talking about? Spike from Buffy?" When nobody laughed at my inside joke I continued, "If Lucifer does show up, which I doubt he will, I have a feeling he won't kill me."

"Why do you think that? You don't know our brother." Gabriel pointed out.

"True but if he wanted me killed wouldn't he have done that by now?" I asked him, giving him a questioning look.

Gabriel ran a hand threw his hair before answering uneasily, "I suppose but I'd still like someone to be with you. At least near the premises of where you work."

"You're taking this a lot more seriously than I thought you would." I admitted, feeling surprised by his plan of action.

Gabriel shrugged, "I created the damage that happened so I need to at least help sort it out."

I smiled, "Well, you're slowly but surely making your way back into my good book."

Gabriel smiled sheepishly at me as Balthazar blurted out, "You have a good book? Who's in your bad book?"

"Oh, you don't want to know." I smiled evilly at Balthazar as he pretended to blanch and Gabriel laughed a little, "But I agree with Gabriel. You can put someone around the clock as a guard while I work. You could involve Jace and Felix in the operation too."

Balthazar and Gabriel gave each other a look before Balthazar said, "We'd rather not involve those two. We don't exactly get on well with them."

I rolled my eyes, "So what if you don't get on well with them? It's not like I'm asking you to be best friends with them. This is to do with my safety here. Nothing more, nothing less."

"Well, when you put it like that I guess it doesn't sound so bad. I'll go and contact them now." Balthazar announced and then disappeared from the room.

"You'd think I'd get used to that action with being around demons and angels 24/7 but nope, it still makes me jump out of my skin." I muttered, while typing out another letter.

"I guess it would take a lot of time for a human to get used to actions like that." Gabriel agreed.

"Hmm, especially when that human has come from another world without supernatural beings." I replied.

Gabriel raised his eyebrow at me, "You still think you come from a world without any supernatural beings? Where there is no God?"

I shrugged, "I don't know about a God, per say. There are people who believe in that stuff. I was just not one of them."

"Do you believe in that stuff now?" Gabriel asked me.

"Well, I believe in demons and angels and other supernatural beings. Maybe not God." I answered.

"How can you not believe in Dad-" Gabriel started to ask but he got interrupted by Balthazar appearing with Jace and Felix by his side.

"Excellent timing." I joked as I looked over to Jace and Felix.

"This one here mentioned that you need our services. What for?" Jace asked, jabbing a finger towards Balthazar.

"I thought you were going to tell them?" I asked Balthazar.

Balthazar let out a sigh of exasperation, "I was going to but when I arrived I was met with hostility. Thought it would be better for you to explain things."

I joked, "You are really a useless angel, aren't you?"

Balthazar glared at me playfully before I turned to Jace and Felix and explained the situation of myself staying in Mystic Falls. I could tell that Felix was agreeable tot he notion but that Jace was going to need more persuading. When I had finished my story Jace commented,

"You know Crowley wouldn't agree with. What about Lucifer trying to find you?"

"Well, let me put it this way this town isn't known to Lucifer, that I know of, which means I'm safe. And this gives you more time to research on Lucifer." I told him.

Jace looked at me for a while before he answered, "Well, I suppose that's a sound enough answer. I'll let Crowley know what your plans are. Don't expect him to agree with them though."

"Try and persuade him." I suggested.

Jace nodded and suddenly vanished from the room. After his disappearance act Felix spoke up,

"What's your plan now then?"

"I need to find the Salvatore brothers mansion after I've sorted these applications out. I just want to check something out there." I explained.

"What do you want to check there, love?" Balthazar asked me.

"To check if the Salvatore brothers really live there. I want to pay Damon Salvatore a visit."

Hey guys! Here's a new chapter for you! I just came back from Florida today so I'm feeling all kinds of jet lag xD I got back at about 10.30am and slept pretty much the whole day till 3.50pm :') Im trying to stay awake till 10pm but we'll see. Hope you enjoyed this chapter. Not as long as the other ones but Marthe's chapter will be next so that should be longer. See you soon hopefully (Uni starts in a few days :O) with a new chapter.
