Chapter Two

When Did Everything Get So Complex?

Alex

As I stopped my conversation with Somi I couldn't help but wonder how everything had gotten so out of control. My family liked Sammy from my thoughts, but they were worried that we were becoming too serious. Like they could talk, I mean to say my Mom had an imprint, before my Dad came along and tried to date both of them. I suppose that she doesn't want me to make the same mistake, but Sammy knows me better then anyone even Grandpa Eddy. I'm sorry but its the truth, I feel as though I can tell her anything and she feels the same way about me, we both don't know exactly what to make of our bond. When you know a person that intimately its almost impossible not to love them, if they aren't unlikeable. Sammy was far from unlikeable, but no one seemed to see it apart from me. Apparently I had a thing for strong women or they had a thing for me.

I sighed and laid back on my bed taking out my headphones and putting on some of my music. I loved Latin American music, the way it was exciting and moving at the same time was incredible. My Mom and Dad were old fashioned as was practically everyone in my house. I had shown the whole family how to use the Internet and they all were fascinated by it, although none of them loved technology to the extent that I did, even my siblings. I had an I Pod full of my Grandpa's CD's and my own musical preferences, I liked the way that information could be transported and I was thinking of making up my own web page, with so many weird sites on the net, someone wouldn't be able to separate mine from the thousands. My father explained that it wasn't worth the risk of having the council interfere and I had agreed with him.

I smelt food cooking downstairs and decided to go down to eat, admittedly I was hungry. I opened the door and standing in the corridor, or rather fighting in the corridor were the twins. "Break it up you two." I told them grinning. "Mom has made food." I smiled as they admittedly raced down the stairs play fighting each other in their haste to get to the table first. I settled for a more sedate pace and sat at my familiar spot, next to my sister and Leah. At the Cullen household meals were taken together, whether on the hunt or at the table, it was nice and like everything else with my family rather old fashioned, I mean how many kids could say that they ate every meal with their parents.

Come to that how many kids could say that they were adopted by their relatives by marriage? Well the Cullen's were more unusual then most, but that didn't fail to make us one big happy bloodsucking family as Somi would put it. I snorted at the thought and Amelia looked at me. "What's so funny Alex?"

"Nothing, just something Sammy said." I replied, I never called her Somi outside my own mind, that was my name for her, no one else.

"You know that you can't be together right?" Jace asked me and I sighed, I loved Jace but sometimes I wanted to bash his head into the wall. Actually I had before a few times, but Esme is fond of the wall paper so I try to honor her wishes and put up with his stupid questions.

"You know your brain is about the size of the form you commonly take." As Jace liked to spy upon me as small birds, this was a slightly veiled insult.

"Alex!" Mom said, she didn't mean to play favorites but it was clear to me and Amelia that the twins held a special place in her heart.

"Sorry." I said gruffly under my breath but I knew everyone heard me. "Need help Mom?"

"Sure sweety." Mom replied and I became incredible telekinetic boy again. A fork 'accsidentally' hit Jace in the forehead, but no one blamed me as I was still getting 'control' of my power. Jace winced but placed it down on the table next to his plate as I pulled several dishes to me.

"You're getting better." Dad said to me.

"Thanks, just that darn fork." I said and they all chuckled remembering when I was younger and accidentally splattered spaghetti over my entire family.

"Maybe you will be able to bring a person to you soon."

"That would be awesome." I said grinning. "Although I don't know who would be willing to be my lab rat though." Silence filled the room as everyone remembered my accsidents.

"Maybe you should try with animals first." Grandpa Eddy suggested.

"Good idea." I replied. "Maybe I will do that." They didn't know that I had already progressed past that, using my prey when the family moved on, or small live animals. Lately I had been concentrating on myself, trying to get myself to objects using my mind rather then making the objects come to me. It was infinitely harder but infinitely more satisfying, like hitting Jace with a hundred forks instead of just one.

I helped myself to some of the food and served both Leah and my sister. I smiled at Leah and she smiled back at me, she knew that I was unsure of our relationship and had been acting strangely lately around me. "So how is Sammy and the pack?" Leah asked me and I shrugged.

"Fine I think, she's having some issues with Collin and Sam but nothing major. Claire had her baby and no one imprinted on her, so that's one worry over with."

"Wait the child was a girl?" Grandpa Carlisle asked

"Yeah, I suppose that times have changed." I replied.

"Too right they have, I blasted so many aliens yesterday!" Emmett said and I laughed.

"Really, you used the computer without it exploding?" I asked remembering when Emmett had actually managed to explode the computer.

"Yep and that was only one time, you said it was indestructible."

"I thought it was." I replied.

"Indestructible means that you can use dynamite on it and nothing happens." Emmett replied. "It went kaboomy so something happened."

"I don't think kaboomy is a word in the English dictionary Emmett." Jasper said to him.

"It isn't? Then they should so totally make it one." We all laughed, Emmett was always good for a good laugh, actually he tried to make us laugh a lot of the time. When we were little he would even pull faces to get us to laugh. Emmett and Embry were proof that wolves and vampires could get along, in fact they were good friends. They had a simular sense of humor, much like me and Sammeth.

"I agree, its an awesome word." Embry said.

"Klaboomy." They said at the same time and burst into laughter again.

"They are completely..." Jake started.

"Crazy, one would think that they were twins." Jace finished and they looked at each other before also bursting into laughter.

"Maybe we should eat." Amelia said. "It wouldn't be as good cold." I sighed, Amelia honestly tried to act mature for some reason. She never pulled it off though and it sort of seemed false, I wish that she would just drop the act and actually be who she is. The person I both love and hate rather then the dead body snature she makes herself to be to fit in.

"Alright." Mom said to us and started serving the food.

"I can do that Mom." I protested and concentrated for a moment before the food was neatly put onto the plates, without getting anything on Esme's tablecloth. Considering that it was just salad, stake and potatoes it wasn't that hard. My family might be vegetarian in one sense of the word, but if anyone suggested that we stopped serving meat during meals there would be an revolt.

I looked down at my own portion for a moment and made my fork cut the meat without touching it. It was hard admittedly and by the time I was done I had sweat on my forehead, my family meanwhile stared at me. "What? Did I get sauce somewhere or something?" I asked them.

"You're so much better at that now then you used to be." Mom replied smiling. "It must be hard for you to do that, but we're so proud of you that you manage it anyway." I tried not to growl at that, of all my family I was the weakest and as such they often treated me like a baby or an invalid. Well at least I wasn't as weak as a human, that would be too much.

"Thanks Mom." I managed to get out, that's why I never tell anyone apart from Somi about how far I have gotten with my powers. The way they look at me, with a sort of sympathy that makes me feel like I will never truly fit in anywhere. I wish all the time that it could be different, that my father had been a half vampire like Amelia. I wish that my family could be more then in just name and legal papers, I wanted Nahuel to be my father, instead of just my half uncle.

"Your welcome, never forget how proud we are of you and where you come from." Alice said and everyone turned towards her. I was nervous I had thought of striking out on my own, going to visit Somi and find what I wanted to do with my life, but to hear Alice say those words it seemed somehow final. Alice nodded to me and smiled, apart from Somi I felt as though Alice truly understood me the most, she was like me in that so many times she was frustrated by her gift.

I looked down at my hands in my lap, I wasn't sure what to say in response to that. I made my fork pick up a piece of stake and ate the bite, oddly enough using my gift made me hungry and slightly tired as if after bench pressing two hundred pounds, or the equivalent of forty pounds to a human. Amelia often teased me about being a light weight when we were on speaking terms. I slowly ate my stake bite by bite while my family stared at me. I continued to my salad and potato, then I looked at Mom. "May I be excused?" I asked and she nodded.

I stood up and went back to my room and sat down on my bed. I made my headphones fit around my head once more and pressed play as I hadn't yet figured out how to do so using my mind. Music blared through, heavy metal to suit my mood. I didn't normally listen to music only when I was upset.

Alex?

Yeah Somi, want to talk?

Sure, I basically blew up at my dad. Told him how imprinting was like imprisonment even, in front of the whole pack believe it or not! I almost transformed into a wolf, actually Alise forced me to it."

"Whoa slow down Somi alright? What's this about Alise?"

"She's desperate to transform they all are."

"So let me get this strait, they actually want to be constantly cautious around others. From what you've told me it isn't easy."

"But its also incredible, I'm never as free as I am with wolf form."

"I could understand that, I mean apart from me, you don't have anyone with you when you transform."

"Yeah, sometimes I wish that I can hear the rest of the pack, so I wouldn't be so alone."

"You are the strongest person I know Somi. Do you think it would be alright if I went back to the old house for a few days?"

"I don't think they would mind."

"You sound uncertain."

"Well I can't say they'll be fine with it if they aren't can I? Actually considering the way the cubs have been acting it might seem like a relief to them. You won't believe this but Alise actually asked me to bite her, she even tried to get me into wolf form to do it."

"No way, does she like have a death wish? Or does she just not understand the wild side wolves show."

"A bit of both I think, although I can't be sure. She actually asked me to get you to bite her at first if you can believe that."

"Its best not to offer me blood, I don't know how much I'll take or if they could fight me off if I got the blood lust. I really wouldn't want the council on me and that's what would happen if I bit her. If its going to happen, it will have to because of something inside of her not me."

"It comes from the inside doesn't it? The ability to transform, my blood lust, everything really I suppose."

"Yeah, how's the incredible metalboy thing going?"

"Not metal anymore, I'm working on moving myself now, to different objects. I think I'll try to get back to the house, if I can't manage it then I don't know what will happen. I've never tested myself that much before."

"Let me clear it first alright?"

"Alright, although I would really like to see you."

"Me too Alex, I miss you all the time."

"Yeah, I was always good with fighting off your admirers, they took one look at me and ran to the bushes."

"It wasn't that bad, Collin is just over protective."

"Ah yes, Leah thinks I excrete flowers as well." Through the link I heard her amusement. "I don't know how she'll take it when I leave, but I need to find myself and I can't do that clinging to apron strings, or wolf fur."

"I understand, so what are you thinking of doing? Are you going to stay at the house of bad smells?"

"Hey I think it smells good. Its your lot that reek, don't you think its funny how we don't think each other smell. Any other werewolf its a sensery overload, but you, sure you smell a bit woodsy but its a good smell."

"Yeah and although you smell like someone poured a gallon of perfume on you, its not that bad."

"Gee thanks."

"You're welcome."

"So, I'll see you or not see you then, depending upon what your Papa Wolf decides."

"Papa Wolf?" Alex could sense the bubble of amusement.

"Yeah, now you know what I call your dad in my mind sometimes."

"I'm not Baby Wolf if that's what you're getting at."

"You mean I can't call you baby?"

"Like you would anyway!"

"True, its not my style, I'm more of the type where if you mess with my girl, you'll be swimming with the fishes."

"Am I you're girl?"

"You know that, you agreed upon the long distance dating thing, interesting movies you made me watch."

"It was almost like you were there, with you in my mind, making sarcastic comments. You actually had me laughing at moments where it was inappropriate, Claire thought I was crazy."

"Oh yes Claire, how's the baby?"

"I don't know, Quil's so over protective that he won't even let the pack see his daughter. After the first test to make sure she wasn't anyone's imprint."

"That make sense I suppose, if I had a daughter... Well I don't know really what I would do with a daughter."

"She would most probably drive you crazy, I try with my dad but he still seems sane to me."

"With your beauty you would make any man a raving lunatic."

"Its comments like that, that remind me why I am defying my father and Collin."

"I'll keep making them then, my little full moon."

"As if." Alex could sense her satisfaction in the comment although she was trying to hide it. "Listen, I just heard my Dad knocking at my door, I'll talk with you later and ask him if it would be alright for you to visit.

"Talk to you later then." I felt the connection go faint and then fade until it was gone. I sighed and laid back on my bed, pillowing my hands with my head and made my books fly around me until I became exhausted and set them back in order on the shelves. Breathing hard I closed my eyes and drifted into a dreamless sleep, the kind that were only brought on by overusing my talent.

AN: I'll update as I have the time, I'm really busy at the moment with a school play and rehersals until five practically every night. I don't have as much time as I would like to write. Thanks for sticking by me through the months since I first started this series.
