Numbers 13:31-33

A/N: Okay here it is, I'm sorry it took so long, I would like to say that it was because I was writing an extra long version to satisfy your expectations. But sadly I can't deliver there, I'm afraid a combination of work, other projects and writers block is why it took so long to write. Still I hope this one manages to follow up the last one. Still I hope you enjoy it, I added a few shocks here and there, nothing major. Well enjoy.

Chapter 8: Help

The group stood in silence for several minutes, Leonard reread the letter over and over again trying to find some clue that he had missed, some hint that would help him find an explanation, something …anything. But apart from the obvious there didn't seem to be anything else to the letter. As they stood there a dozen questions shot through each of their minds, any potential or even possible answers they managed to reach simply created more follow up questions.

How did this Bilis know who they were? And how did he know where they there? How did he know about their situation? Or about the demons? Or Penny's condition? Or any of this at all? And who was this Bilis? What was going on?

You could almost hear the three of them minds working, trying to some kind of answer, something that would give them so relief all these questions. Leonard was still searching his mind for answers when noticed that his fingertips were yellow. Shocked he dropped the letter and stared at his hands. What was this stuff? Where had it come from? Leonard thought for a moment before gingerly picking the letter up again. Turning it round, he made a surprising discovery. The back of the letter was covered in thin layer of some sort of yellow powder; carefully Leonard brought it up closer to his face, only to quickly pull it back. The powder reeked, like rotten eggs.

Gasping Leonard dropped the letter, what was this stuff? It seemed familiar but Leonard couldn't place it. Not giving it much more thought, he went and washed his hands. Before returning and carefully placing the letter on the table. Howard and Bernadette just continued to watch him, still no one spoke.

Leonard walked back over to the other two, "well…" he said finally breaking silence amongst them "…what do you think?"

There was a pause "I don't truthfully know what to think," Bernadette finally said. "I mean what is it all? What does it mean?"

"I don't know,"

"While neither do I, all I do know is that something's wrong."

"Do you want to know what I want to know?" Howard asked,

Leonard and Bernadette turned to face him, "what?" Leonard asked,

"Why a letter? If this person wants to contact us, why send us a letter? Why not just come and visit us? Or call us? Why send a letter?"

Silence fell, the buzz of questions continued to echo throughout the room, and no one had any answers.

The rain had once again begun to fall, gasping and panting Sheldon and Amy emerged out of the undergrowth. Both were covered in scratches and had once again been soaked, Sheldon was practically leaning on Amy for every third or fourth step of the way, his arm had stopped bleeding, but the wound had not healed, just as the marks on his chest hadn't healed or his broken nose or his bruises, or any of his wounds for that matter.

As she looked at him, Amy couldn't help but wonder how he was still carrying on, he looked like he had been in a collision; mind you, she also couldn't help but wonder how she was still carrying on as well. Following escaping the wolves, they had both collapsed from exhaustion a few hours after dawn and reawaken sometime after nigh fall, now they had been wandering aimlessly for hours. The two continued to walk through the rain and the wind, it was freezing cold and both of them were covered in mud.

Were Sheldon was leading her, Amy didn't know, he managed to stay just a little in front somehow and kept pulling her in certain direction. His eyes were fixed forward constantly; evidently he could see something that was beyond the limit of Amy's sight. Groaning they walked on through the trees and emerged outside another cabin. Sheldon turned to Amy, "we'll rest here; it will be morning in a few hours."

The two of them made their way round to the door; Sheldon began fumbling through his clothing with his good hand. When he found nothing, Amy began to look worried.

"What's the matter?"

"I can't find my lock pick; I must have dropped it somewhere between her and Texas."

Amy stared in shock, "how are we going to get in?"

Sheldon reached forward and placed his hand against the handled. Gently he pushed against it; there was a creaking noise he began to push harder. The creaks grey louder and then suddenly there was a snapping sound and the door opened. "Like that," he replied and with that he walked in. Amy hesitated but followed close behind. The Cabin was dark, but it was dry. Exhausted the two of them collapsed onto the floor near the last glowing embers of a fire.

Sheldon looked around, his eyes able to see better in the dim lights than Amy's. "Looks lived in, recently." He murmured. "Still it should do us until the morning, and then we'll carry on; we need to get out of these woods."

Amy however wasn't listening; she had spotted something else altogether. "Sheldon," she said timidly, "who lit that fire?"

Sheldon's eyes spun round to the embers, there clearly had been a fire there no more than an hour ago. He paused, and through the exhaustion and pain he heard it. "Someone's coming," he said solemnly.

The two of them turned to the door. Suddenly a figure emerged in the doorway, in the dim light Amy could see it was a man; he was holding a flashlight and a rifle. There was pause as the two of them looked at each other and then the man broke the silence. "What's going on here? Who the hell are you? And what are you doing in my…"

He trailed off the moment his flash light beam fell on Sheldon, "Oh my god, what happened to you mate." Quickly the man rushed in; carefully he put down his rifle on the table, before heading closer to get a better look. As his eyes went over Sheldon his jaw dropped lower.

At that point Amy spoke, "were sorry," she said, "we didn't realise any one lived her, it's just we've been walking through the forest all night and when we saw this cabin we were just so tired that we had to stop."

At that the man turned to face her, the beam from his flashlight hit Amy. Upon seeing her mud soaked body, and unnaturally skimpy clothing he could just stare in shock. "Wh…what…What are you wearing?"

Amy gulped, "it's a long story," she said sliding backwards out of the flashlights beam.

The man paused, unsure he just continued to stare in confusion and bewilderment. Sheldon and Amy exchanged glances. No one knew what to say next.

Penny stood there in front of her mirror; she had just gotten out of the shower so she was only wearing a towel, Penny smiled as she looked at her beautiful figure and lush blond hair, she was beautiful. It was a warm, tranquil night, her apartment was comfortable if a bit disorganised, just as she liked it. As Penny found herself stare into the mirror, she noticed how long it took for her to turn, it was almost like time was slowing down. Every second seemed to take a minute. Her hair slowly bounced as she did. And then behind her a figure emerged.

A tall dark figure, dressed entirely in black, who even in the light was standing in shadow. Penny could not react because everything was moving so very slowly. The figure did not move he just seemed to be continually getting closer. He was getting closer and closer and closer. Penny was turning, but everything was so slow, she urged her body to move, but even with all her will nothing would move any faster.

The figure was right behind her now. And then it stretched out its hand. An ancient, ice cold, withered claw grasped Penny by the shoulder. Penny was still in the midpoint of turning there was nothing she could do. The figure leaned in closer, exposing more of its features. Most of its face was covered in darkness, but a pair of cold eyes and a cruel grin shone through the blackness.

Penny felt like screaming, but it was too late for that. The figure pulled her in as close as it could and then it faded straight into her body…

Penny sat up screaming and panting in her bed. Everyone came running, but by the time they reached her, all they found was her sitting there on her bed, her head in her hands, crying her eyes out.

Amy shivered again as she warmed herself by the fire. The hunter, who they had since learned was called Daniel handed her a mug. Amy gulped down the warm drink, as despite the fire her body was still cold. Sheldon lay in the corner upon the hunters own camp bed, he had passed out shortly after Daniel found them. Looking up, Daniel cast a glance upon him once more and shook his head, before turning back to Amy.

"So let me get this straight. You and your boyfriend were on holiday and rented a cabin out here to get some couples time completely alone, but last night someone broke into your cabin, they beat up your boyfriend and then they stole most of the things you had brought leaving you with all you've got with you."

Amy nodded, "but then how did he get those marks on his chest and on his hands?" Daniel asked, "They look like they were made by an animal."

Amy paused for a moment, "well… you see… after we realised we didn't have much left, we knew we had to go and find help. But as we were walking through the forest, an animal attacked Sheldon, he managed to push it off and we got away, but it had already sliced his chest with its claws and ripped his arm with its teeth by then, he was lucky to escape with his life."

"What sort of animal was it?"

Amy paused again, "I don't know, I didn't get a very good look, we were separated briefly and it was very dark. I just heard Sheldon screaming, I ran to him and saw him struggling, he broke free and we ran away together. Then when we got into the clearing I saw how badly he was hurt."

Daniel nodded, "the poor guy," he paused, "still I have to give him his due; it's almost unbelievable he managed to continue walking after taking all that and survive this long without having his wounds treated. For a thin guy it's incredible he took so much punishment so well, heck it's practically inhuman, the blood loss alone should have killed him."

Uncomfortably, Amy nodded, it was an unoriginal lie, but Daniel was too shocked by Sheldon's wounds to ask too many questions. "Regardless," Daniel continued, "he clearly needs medical attention, if he doesn't get it soon he'll die."

Amy sat up straight suddenly, "Die?"

"You've seen the scale of his wounds; no one can survive all that without treatment,"

Amy wasn't sure if such rules would apply to a Nephilim, but she was in no fit state to argue about it. "Okay, is there a hospital near here?"

Daniel slowly shook his head, "no, there isn't much of anything around here for kilometres and he's in not fit state to be moved over such a long distance."

Amy looked over at Sheldon, he was still very pale. "But what are we going to do then?"

Daniel paused unsure, "I guess…there is only one thing I can do," he walked over to a cupboard and took out a first aid kit, "I'll have to stich him up myself."

Amy stared in confusion "Can you?" was she could manage.

Daniel paused again, "of course I can, I've done similar before. I have sewed up my own wounds; it's nearly the same, just with a different person."

Amy didn't know what to say, they had just met this man, and he was volunteering to save Sheldon life? Maybe they were finally getting some good luck. "I'll wake him."

Amy walked over to Sheldon and gently nudged him, "Sheldon," she said softly. He did not respond Amy nudged him a little harder, "Sheldon," still nothing. "Sheldon?" Amy asked now slightly worried. Amy grabbed him by the shoulder and shook him again, before shouting "Sheldon!" and still he didn't move. "He's not waking up!" Amy cried. Daniel ran over and pulled the sheets off, revealing that they were blood soaked.

Amy reared back in horror, "No," she screamed, "No," this wasn't possible, he had already stopped bleeding, where had all this blood come from? Daniel stared in horror.

"My God," he whispered.

Amy spun on the spot, "you've got to do something, hurry." Daniel ran over and grabbed the kit. Amy leaned in and felt Sheldon's neck, his skin was cool and his pulse was slow…but constant?

Daniel rushed on the spot, pulling items out of the first aid kit. Quick as he could he washed away the blood, then he carefully administered the anti-septic to the wounds, before grabbing the surgical thread, he sterilised the needle and began to slowly sew up each wound. Sheldon didn't stir once during the whole procedure. Amy stood there the whole time, clutching Sheldon's hand.

Something was very wrong, where had all this blood come from? Unable to do anything she just watched as Daniel continued to treat and stich each and every one of his wounds one by one. Eventually he was done. Sheldon still lay there, he was still asleep, his pulse was a little quicker and his body was warmer, but apart from that there was no change.

"We should probably let him sleep," Daniel said, "he's clearly a strong man, if he wasn't he wouldn't have survived this long, he'll pull through now that his wounds are sewn up."

Amy could only nod, "I've got a spare camp bed in my van, I'll go get it, you can sleep there, I'll take the floor." And with that he walked out. Amy stared at Sheldon, Daniel had done a good job every single wound was neatly stitched closed, he looked much better. Slowly Amy leaned in rested her head on Sheldon's chest. Normally he would almost never let her get this close, but she was sure the circumstances would allow it. Leaning there she listed to Sheldon's heart beating. The steady beat soothed Amy; it was okay his heart was beating fine. It was slower than it should have been, but it was still fine.

As she calmed down, Amy began to realise just how tired she really was. Letting out a yawn, Amy knew she had to get up, but she decided to leave it just a few more seconds. The steady beat was so soothing. Why? Amy wasn't sure, but if it was anything it was a sign. A sign that Sheldon wasn't going to die he was going to live. She could hear the steady beat plain as day; he was going to live…

Daniel returned to the cabin a few minutes later only to find Amy sound asleep. Smiling he laid out the bed before lifting the sleeping Amy off her boyfriend and laying her down on the bed, he turned back to Sheldon and pulled another blanket over him. "Sleep tight mate, you deserve it, and it will be dawn in a few hours." Before laying out his own bedding upon the floor and lying down. He gave his guests one last look before rolling over, he too was soon asleep.

Howard sat on his bed staring out of the window, Bernadette lay besides him, she was already sound asleep. Howard stared up at the moon; he had no idea what time it was, ever since Penny had woken them up he couldn't get back to sleep, so instead he just watched. And as he watched his thoughts and fears danced across his mind. What were they going to do? They were all alone, Leonard's method may keep the demons out, but if the situation emerged, all that would do was delay the inevitable.

He turned back to look at Bernadette, she looked so beautiful and peaceful; it was like watching an angel slumber. He shuddered as he thought about what could have happened to her when Asmodeus had taken her, still at least even after all he had caused he could still thank Sheldon for saving her.

"Can you?" A cold voice spoke out, "can you really?"

Howard spun round; "who's there?" he called into the blackness.

A chuckle broke out, "come now Howard, don't you remember me, it's only been a few days since we last spoke, you can't have forgotten me already."

"Not you again," Howard shuddered, because the air had suddenly turned very cold. And then out of the blackness, emerged a fat Middle man, dressed in fancy clothing. "What do you want?" Howard shouted.

Mammon chuckled, "just to talk, don't forget my offer is still open."

"I told you last time to get lost."

"Really and how did that turn out for you?"

"Um, well, we escaped the church and Asmodeus."

"You almost lost your wife to that monster; do you know what he would have done to her if she hadn't been rescued? Believe me, even other demons consider Asmodeus cruel, the sheer scale of suffering he inflicts on others, its its its indescribable. But, I can tell you this, if he had got a chance to do it, before he was even finished getting started hurting her, if he handed her a knife she would proceed to cut off about 57% of her body, including peeling off all her skin, all just to make herself less filthy."

Howard stared blankly in horror. "And now…" Mammon continued, "…your great protector has abandoned you, he's gone, he's taken his love and he's left you behind for the other demons to use for them to work out a few of their aggression issues. Even if by some miracle and that's what it will take for you to escape this, a miracle. If you make it out of this alive, you'll never see him again, he'll be half way to Israel by now and you know something, I bet you anything you like that he didn't even look back once."

"You're lying," Howard shouted.

Mammon laughed coldly, "you tell me, why do you hold such loyalty to this man, he's never liked you, never helped you, never been there for you, what has he done to earn such loyalty?"

"He's my friend,"

"He almost choked you to death, because you dared insult him when he was in the wrong. What happens next time to you make him angry? He snaps your spine? He rips out your hands, because you talk out of line? Does that sound like friendship to you? Because, and I may be wrong, I haven't had a friend in what 20,000 years, but from what I remember, I never did any of that to them."

Howard shuddered, "Even if I wanted to, I couldn't help you locate him, I don't know where he is."

Mammon shook his head, "That's the problem with you, you lack vision, you lack strength of will, you lack imagination. You have no idea the events that are unfolding around you, you are merely a pawn in a game you don't even realise is being played. Still if you feel that you are no use to me, I'll be gone; I am a man of integrity after all. But before I go, perhaps a little demonstration of your present future will change your mind. And with that he snapped his fingers before disappearing into thin air.

Howard sat there in bewilderment. Suddenly the bed burst into flames. He dived off and backed away towards the window staring in horror. Out of the flames came the most horrible shrieking he had ever heard and then he remembered that Bernadette was still in that bed. Howard tried to run forward to his love, but his feet had seemingly sunk into the floor boards, he couldn't move.

The screams continued as the bed continued to burn, they carried on till there was nothing left but ash. Howard was struggling and squirming, but it was too late, both the flames and the bed were gone and where his angel had slept, only dust remained. "No!" Howard screamed, "No, NO, NO!" He once again tried to pull himself free only for the floor to give way, causing him to fall, down down down deep into the blackness.

Howard sat up panting; he was back in his bed it had all been a dream. He turned to his side, there laid Bernadette she was still asleep, as he watched she began to stir. "Howie," she said softly, her eyes barely open, "is something the matter."

Still panting Howard bared a smile, "Nothing, just a bad dream, go back to sleep dear." Bernadette shrugged, before settling down. Slowly Howard got out of bed, for he knew he would not sleep another wink tonight, not after what had just happened. Getting dressed he left the room, leaving Bernadette to her dreams.

Amy swallowed another mouthful of the soup, it tasted so good. Apart from Sheldon's bear broth two days ago, Amy hadn't really eaten anything in a while. Daniel was happy eating his own. Amy glanced over at Sheldon, he looked a lot better now; the colour was coming back in his cheeks.

"He seems to be doing well," Daniel said.

"Yes," Amy replied, "I think you got to him just in time."

Daniel sighed, "Well when he's well enough to be moved I'll give you both a ride back to the nearest town, it's a long drive though."

"Thank you,"

"No problem really, not much to hunt up here anyway, I mostly just come up for the peace and quiet." He shook his head, "I never imagined I would ever run into any people up here, especially not anyone who would need my help."

"Well you gave it, and it was very well received, I can't thank you enough for what you've done for us."

"It's nothing special, just your duty to fellow human beings; no one deserves to feel the rage of the wild, regardless of their crime, country, colour or breed. It's basic human decency."

Amy shook her head, "I have a feeling if more people thought like that this world would be a nicer place to live in."

Daniel shrugged, "I'm sure nearly everyone thinks like that, it's just they never expect to have to live up to their ideas and are unprepared when there turn comes." He got to his feet and picked up his rifle, "well I better see if I can find anything for supper, I have a feeling your boyfriend will quite hungry when he wakes up, you will be okay being alone for a few hours won't you, Amy?"

Amy smiled; "sure," Daniel nodded and walked off. Amy turned back to the still sleeping Sheldon, "well it looks like it's just you and me, alone and un-chaperoned." Amy chuckled at her own joke, "who knows what could happen."

Leonard paced back and forth across the room, it was now late morning and Penny hadn't reawakened. Following her incident the night before he had spent much of the night with her, she hadn't spoken a single word the whole time, she had only cried. It was hours before she had finally gotten back to sleep. Leonard was exhausted, but his worry overpowered his tiredness.

Leonard paused, before turning and for about twentieth time that morning he went to check on Penny. Once again he found her peacefully sleeping, Leonard paused and just stood there watching Penny sleep. Once again, he couldn't help wonder what she was dreaming about? And what she had been dreaming about last night? What could have reduced her to tears like this?

Leonard shook his head and left the room; as he left Leonard found himself thinking about just how much had changed. He had gone from being a nerdy practical physicist who lived comfortably, to being a lost nerd living somewhere he did not belong on the run. They had all changed, Penny had, Bernadette had and Howard had defiantly had. Leonard paused to worry about his friend, the stress of it was getting to him the worse of them all, he had clearly gotten more…unstable.

His worries still weighing heavy on his mind, Leonard returned to his original line of thought. Only find he couldn't help but wonder how the stress had affected him. Had he changed in any way? He had willingly stabbed a demon through the arm to save Penny, that was something he probably could never have done before, or could he have done it if the situation presented its self, it was just it never had?

He had no idea. Leonard paused, before turning around to take on final look at Penny, she was still peacefully sleeping, just like an angel and then Leonards mind shifted to his second greatest cause of worry. Where was Sheldon? Was he okay? What had happened to him? Leonard had no answers, all he knew was his best friend had flown off to escape the demons and could be anywhere in America. How would he find them? Leonard knew Sheldon would never abandon them, not over something anywhere near as important as this. But then how would he find them?

It was then Leonard realised just how few answers he really had. Did he honestly have a single one? Probably not, but then what was he going to do? "The only thing I can do," he told himself, "is wait for my friend to return, I don't have any other choice. He'll help when he gets back." It was then Leonards eyes fell upon the ominous letter lying on the coffee table.

A letter from Bilis. A letter offering help, offering guidance, a letter offering protection. Could it be true? Surely not, nothing that good was ever really true, it was bound to be some sort of trick or such. Leonard hadn't heard anything else from this Bilis whoever he was. But then the letter said there wasn't a time limit on the offer, and it was possible that it might be true…No no, he couldn't allow himself to think like that, it wasn't true, none of it could be true. If he let himself suspect, all he would do was get his hopes up for nothing. Leonard just had to wait. But then how long could they wait here for? The demons were still out searching; sooner or later they would find them, wouldn't they?

Would they find them? Would they really search every square inch of the country between were they last saw them and hear, just on the chance they might find some people associated with a Nephilim? Leonard had no idea, but then Sheldon had said that Demons were much like school bullies, and one of Leonards old bullies did spend ninety minutes searching for Leonard, just so he could give him an undeserved beating. Leonard shuddered as the painful memories returned.

But he wasn't a child any longer; he was a grown man…Like that really made much difference in his case. But the point was he just had to wait for Sheldon to come back, and then they would carry on with Sheldon's plan, flee America, leave all their friends and families behind and never see them again. Take off to some place somewhere in the world, where Demons couldn't go and live out the rest of their lives there, somewhere in a desert probably.

But then it was still better than a life on run, a life where they could die at any moment. A life where their own survival was tested regularly. None of them were cut out or ready for a life like that, not even Penny. That was a life reserved for the works of fiction; he had to admit they always seemed much more enjoyable when you were reading them in the comfort of your own home, when you actually had to live through them; well it was a different story.

But the best option he had was to take the plan he was going with, it was as simple as that, and who knows maybe they would get lucky and Sheldon would pick Italy, it was the closest after all, living there wouldn't be too bad, he liked the food. Leonard paused, before deciding to go check on Penny again.

Amy grabbed a final stick for her pile; the fire was getting low now, and needed more wood. It was slightly warmer than it had been the night before, but Amy still felt the cold. She shivered; still she would be back inside soon. Amy paused to think for a moment about the last time she had gone out to collect wood, when the wolves attacked two days ago. She shuddered as the memories of the beasts fangs returned to her. But that was in the past, it was day time now, not night and there were no wolves around, as well as nothing to attract them.

Amy began to walk backwards towards the cabin, when a cold wind began to blow. Amy shivered, the tree branches began to creak Amy spun round. "Whose there?" she asked timidly. Only the wind replied. Shaken slightly Amy returned to walking back to the cabin. But with every step she found herself feeling more and more uneasy. As she walked Amy began to notice just how quiet it had gotten, it was almost, not it was silent. In the few days she had been in this forest it had never been silent, not even in the dead of night, there had always been something creating some sort of sound, but now it was silent. Why was it silent?

Amy began to walk back a little faster. Her eyes continually focused ahead of her. The wind which had started mere moments before had dropped, but it still felt colder. Amy tried to ignore this goings on; she was just focused on getting back inside. The area it was so quiet, it was unnatural. Amy was only a few feet away now; she would be back in a moment. And then she heard the sound of a twig snap.

Amy dropped the wood and broke into an all-out run, she had to get back. She was so focused that she didn't see the figure appear in front of her. Amy crashed into the man, it was like hitting a brick wall. She was knocked backwards onto the floor. Three figures crowded around her, unnatural smiles upon each of their faces. "Hello Amy," said one of the figures, "So where's your boyfriend?"

Before Amy could react, one of them grabbed her by the scruff of her neck and hoisted her up of the ground, before slamming her into the back of her cabin. "You didn't answer the question, where is he?"

Amy could only stare in horror, "what?" the creature asked, leering in "Don't tell me your surprised to see us, you really think that we wouldn't find you? We've watching you since before Asmodeus grabbed you. Now answer the question."

Amy did not speak, she stared back in horror at the demons standing before her, thousands of miles and once again they had found them, how did they keep find them? But she couldn't let them know Sheldon was nearby, in his state he would be defenceless. "He's…he's…he's gone." She managed, "He dropped me off her and flew away, said he needed to lighten the load, last I saw he was heading for the Atlantic."

The Demon laughed coldly, "Tell me, Doctor Farrah Fowler, did anyone ever tell you that you're a terrible liar, search the building!"

The other two demons nodded and began to walk around. "No," Amy screamed, the demon holding her tightened his grip, Amy was straining to breath.

"You know something Amy, strangulation is a terrible way to die." The demon laughed coldly.

Suddenly a shot rang out; Daniel was standing behind them, his rifle pointed. Slowly he walked forwards, Amy tried to warn him, but she was unable to speak, Daniel had no idea of the danger he was getting himself into. "Okay put her down," Daniel said sternly, "

The demon dropped Amy on to the floor; she lay there gasping for breath. Slowly he turned to face Daniel. The other two demons had stopped and had instead turned around to examine see this new situation. The look in their eyes was terrible to watch, they looked like they were staring down a turkey dinner.

"Now, I don't know who you lot are, or what you've got against this lady, but you're going to get lost now." Daniel said.

The lead demon stopped forward, "I see, now please tell me, why on earth would we do that?"

Daniel held up his rifle, "Because I'll put a bullet through your skull if you don't."

The demon laughed, "Go ahead, I could do with a good tickle." And with that the demon lunged forward, Daniel barely had time to fire, before the creature grabbed him by the shoulders, snarling it hoisted him of the ground several inches into the air, before sharply head-butting him so hard that it caused him to fly several yards behind before crashing onto the ground. Daniel laid there his eyes spinning, the demon picked up the rifle and bent the barrel in half, before snapping the rest of the gun, he broke it like it was a wire coat hanger. Tossing the mess behind him, he turned back towards Amy. Amy who had somewhat recovered tried to crawl backwards, but she just hit the back of the cabin. Still smiling devilishly the demon walked up to her. "Now then Amy," he said in a cheerful voice, "where was I? I just can't remember, was I going to pop your lungs or rip out your intestines, it's just so hard to choose." And with that he let out another blood curtailing laugh.

Suddenly a fist went right through the wooden wall and grabbed the creature by the collar. The demon didn't have time to react, before he was pulled through the wall. There were several great smashing noises before the demon went flying out of the hole he had made. He crashed into a tree with a noticeable snap, although whether it was him or the tree it, it was not possible to tell.

Out of the wrecked wall emerged Sheldon. He staggered forward through the hole. He was already slightly out of breath but he raised his fists. The two other demons just stood there staring, for a moment surprise kept them from charging. Amy stared up her boyfriend in shock, he looked terrible, his wounds were fading, but he still didn't look right and Amy's angle lit up every single bruise left over from his last fight.

The two demons surprise didn't last very long. About a second after it dawned on them that he wasn't going to attack, they both charged forwards. Sheldon's eyes fixed upon the left one, he dived forward, tackling he demon and pushing him back. The other demon emerged from behind. He grabbed Sheldon. But Sheldon elbowed him hard, causing him to stager. The other demon had straightened up, but Sheldon swung at it. The blow collided with its face, knocking the creature to the ground.

But before he could recover the other demon jumped at him from behind. Sheldon tried to push back, but the demon hit him hard in the back. Sheldon staggered forwards, he spun round, but was not fast enough. The demons fist hit Sheldon in the face. He didn't fall, but once again he staggered. The other demon had recovered by this point, getting to its feet. I lunged at Sheldon. Sheldon tried to push it off. But the first demon jumped at exactly the same point. Between the two them managed to hold Sheldon in pace.

Sheldon was struggling hard, the two demons struggled back. Sheldon's recently sown wounds were budging. The demons couldn't pull him down, but he wasn't able to break free. Between them no one was winning, it was all a question of who gave first. Sheldon's face was red, sweat dripped down his forehead, and his body was aching. The demons were also straining, but unlike him they didn't tire.

Amy couldn't take her eyes off the event; she needed to do something she needed to help. But what could she do? And then another sound got her attention. The original demon who Sheldon had frown at the beginning of the fight had recovered and was now back to his feet. His eyes fixed upon the sight. As Amy watched he smiled, before breaking into a run towards them. Sheldon was already straining with those two demons; he would never be able to handle a third one, not in his weakened condition. Amy sat there helpless to do anything but watch as the demon got closer.

Suddenly Daniel dived at the creature, throwing his whole body against the creature he managed to knock it down, the momentum of his charged caused them to role across the ground. Not expecting this, the demon didn't react. Daniel smashed his fist into the creatures head, he reared back in pain. The creature didn't even blink. Frantically Daniel struggle for a knife he had strapped to his leg. Grabbing it he tried to plunged it into the creature, but with one hand it stopped him. Grasping his arm, the demon tightened its grip, letting out a great cracking noise. Daniel winched in pain, he was still struggling against the monsters grip. Suddenly the demon pulled down, his arm went with it and the action plunged the knife into his own stomach.

"No!" Amy screamed.

Sheldon's eyes opened wide in horror. The other demon slowly got its feet, before tossing the knife over his shoulder. Suddenly Sheldon let out a great shriek of fury. His wings shot out of his back, the two enormous white wings shot round smashing into the two demons, breaking there grip. Before they could react Sheldon grabbed both by the collar and hurled them forwards through the air.

Snarling he charged at the other demon, the creature didn't have time to react. Sheldon hit him hard right between the eyes. The demon shot backwards, but Sheldon grabbed it by the collar, still snarling he hoisted it up above his head, as if trying to choke it. Before spinning round and hurling it right into the other two demons. The three went sprawling.

Sheldon charged forwards at the pile, the whole time bellowing the exorcism. The demons had no time to react; he crashed right into them sending them flying, straight into a tree. Sheldon grasped the closest one and smashed his fist into its face knocking it straight into the others. Reaching the final line he ran forwards at top speed, shoulder first into them. There was a great crashing noise and when the dust settle he was left lying there painting for breath, upon the tree he had just uprooted. The demons faded into the earth.

Gasping and groaning Sheldon managed to push himself back up, only to fall forward again. Straining he managed to crawl across the ground, towards Daniel. Frantically Amy ran over and helped him to her feet. Now leaning on her, Sheldon panted for breath, his wings glow was even dimmer now. Amy almost collapsed under his weight, but someone how managed to support him. Together they made their way over to where Daniel was lying.

Sheldon broke away from Amy and staggered the last few yards, before collapsing besides Daniel. The dying man smiled upon seeing him. "So you're up at last," he joked, Daniel's voice was strained, and broken, yet he still managed to carry on. "It's okay," Sheldon said, his voice worried, but also exhausted. "I can heal you, I just need some blood."

Daniel chuckled, "well there's plenty of that, take us much as you want, I won't need it for much longer."

"It's going to be okay, you're going to live, you're going to be fine," Amy said kneeling beside him; there was a lump in her throat.

Daniel managed to slightly shake his head; "You know," he coughed before chuckling, "I'm getting the impression that you two haven't been completely honest with me."

Sheldon mind raced he needed his blood quickly. Looking down he grasped on of his stiches and tore it open. But no blood seeped out of the wound. Sheldon eyes darted quickly he needed something to cut himself with, but around him, he could see nothing.

"You're going to be fine," Amy choked.

Daniel looked up at her, "It's okay," he managed, "I didn't have much going for me any way, this world won't lose very much in my passing, at least I made it count, that's all that matters." He smiled.

Looking around, Sheldon's eyes fixed upon the knife. It was too far away. Struggling he forced himself up and as fast as he could he made his way over. Daniel's eyes stayed fixed upon his wings, and once again he smiled.

"Well I guess this is it."

"You just need to hold on a bit longer," Amy gasped, now on the brink of tears, "Sheldon can heal you, you just need to hold on for a little longer."

Daniel tried to shake his head, but all he managed was it to tilt slightly. "To late," he gasped, "I think there limits even for his kind. Still I've got few regrets; I've had a happy life." Tears were running now Amy's face. "Don't cry," he managed, by now his voice had decayed to a mere whisper. "I don't mind, you live, go live a good long life. Just think about me every so often."

He let out on final chuckle, "Oh well," he gasped, "I hope saving an angels life, is enough to get you in upstairs, oh and Amy, ask your boyfriend, him being one of them, if it's not too much to trouble, could he come..." Daniel trailed off. The pain was gone from his eyes.

Sheldon had just made it back, he stared in horror, angrily he managed to hurl Daniel's knife into a tree before his legs gave way and he fell in front of them. Tears poured down Amy's face. Straining Sheldon managed to make his way closer to her. They just sat there for the next twenty minutes watching. Then Sheldon got to his feet. He walked into the cabin and came out with a shovel.

Amy watched as Sheldon dug, the hole soon grew, he didn't stop until he felt sure it was too deep for scavengers to dig Daniel up again. Then he gently put the man in the hole and softly buried him. Amy stood there watching the whole time. When he was finished he walked besides Amy. Amy was no longer crying but the sadness remained.

"He saved are lives, even though he didn't have to." Amy managed, "and we never even learned his surname."

Sheldon nodded sadly. "Sheldon," Amy managed, "do you think he's in a better place?"

"I hope so," Sheldon replied, I really hope so. Silence fell between them.

They felt like standing there forever, but both of them knew they couldn't. The demons had found them here, they would be coming. Taking what they needed from the cabin, they loaded it into the back of Daniel's truck, before getting in. Both of them looked behind one final time, before driving off down the long road, leaving the dark forest behind.

Okay I hoped you liked that chapter and didn't find it to repetitive. I'll try and upload the next instalment quicker than I did with this one, I've got the plot more or less worked out so it shouldn't take me to long, still don't hold me to anything.
