Damon's POV
I had just gotten home from work. I open the door. "Hello..?" I call out. No answer. I start to freak out. What happened to her? Why isn't she here? Did Kol arrive and take her home? No. He couldn't.. She wouldn't leave knowing what she does now. I walk over to the fridge and see a note.
Damon,
I watched our wedding video. A lot of memories came flooding back. It was alot to handle. I'm going to see my parents. I'll be back soon. I promise.
Elena.
Her memories were coming back already. I couldn't help but to smile. It was working. She just needs time to remember. I hope that this is only the beginning. She didn't say which memories but I'm pretty sure she'd be here waiting for me if she remembered us. Whatever memories came back I'm glad. It just means that we're one step closer to getting all of them back.
I'm so relieved that Kol hadn't come. I would shoot him no questions asked for taking my wife. He and his family caused so much pain for me and my own family. If he even steps foot in this town or anywhere nearby he's done for. We have all the proof we need to put his ass behind bars. When I get my hands on him first... Just then I hear the front door close.
"Damon...?" I make my way to the front entrance and see Elena with a smile on her face.
"Elena-"
"I remember everything! Up until our first mission. My parents they helped me remember up until then. They showed me pictures of us when we first started dating and I vaguely remember but it's just a matter of time. I believe you. And I want to remember...everything."
I gulp loudly. I didn't want her to remember shooting me. It breaks my heart and I hope she doesn't ever have to remember that part. It was obviously traumatic for her, I mean she lost her memories because of it.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"Nothing. Just work." I smile. "I can't tell you how happy I am that you're getting your memories back. I will help you too. Where's Bruce?" I asked noticing that he was not with her.
"I gave him some vacation time. I know that he misses his family. And I assured him that I would be safe with you."
I couldn't help but smile even more.
"Are those for me?" She asks. I had forgotten that I had bought her flowers after work. I hand them to her. "They're beautiful." She replied looking at all of the different colored lilies.
"They're your favorite." I replied. "On our first date before I knew that I had bought you a dozen red roses. You said thank you and later on you had said I quote, I don't like roses. I actually almost hate them because I'm supposed to like them. You could find out what kind of flowers I like, rather than give me a dozen generic roses."
Elena laughs at this.
"That's when I asked you what type of flowers you like and you replied lilies. So after our date I stopped at the store and brought you lilies."
"I'm sure you made quite the impression on me. But you know this arrangement doesn't quite say I'm sorry that you lost your memory and that you married the enemy not knowing that you were carrying our child. But I forgive you and am willing to overlook it." She said with a smile.
"You're absolutely right. I should've gotten forget me nots."
We both laugh.
"How was work?" she asked.
"It was pretty uneventful. Caroline just irks me at times."
"Yeah she has a way of doing that."
"Has he called you?" I ask refering to Kol.
"No, actually and I'm glad because I don't really know how to handle that situation yet. Or even what to say. My memories are back but I still have the ones of him. And it makes me cringe remembering the feelings that I had for him. Now, knowing that they were all built on lies. How does someone handle knowing something like that?"
I looked into her eyes seeing tears start to form. I lift my hand and cup her face rubbing away the first tear that made it's way down. It tore me up inside to see her so hurt. We shouldn't have gone on that mission. It had worried me to no end when I found out that she was selected for the mission. Then again I might not be here right now if things had gone down differently.
"I just want all of my memories back. They were stolen from me. I couldn't help but cry when I saw our wedding video."
The tears were pouring down her face. This is so unlike Elena. She never cried at least around me. There was only a few times that she's cried. And even only one like this. And it was when she had heard that her parents were in an accident when they drove off wickery bridge. They were both in critical condition. I think the hormones have a big part to do with it. I didn't mind, I've always loved seeing her softer side.
"Who's to say he won't realize something is up and come here? He'd force me to go back with him."
"Elena. I will not let that happen." He would die first. "None of us will. The whole department is behind us. That was what we were discussing. If he stands foot in the US he will be put behind bars." I pull her against me enveloping her in my arms and onto my lap just like I would before. But it was usually for another reason.
"Damon... I just had another memory."
"What was it?"
"It was similar to this. But..."
I smiled she remembered an intimate memory. We just have to do things that we used to do.
"I know." I couldn't help but smirk. "Was it something like this?" I ask, pulling her chin towards me inching closer and closer to her lips. I wait for her to gauge her reaction. She closes the distance against my lips. Her lips were so soft against mine. I feel my heart begin to race. As our kisses continued.
