Charpter 4:
August 2, 2013
"Hey Gran," Teddy asked nervously, "Harry wants me to spend the weekend over at their house so he can take me last minute shopping." Teddy had already been sent his bags over there just in case. "We might be going to Gringott's also." Gran walked back in from the kitchen wiping her hands on her apron.
"That sounds like fun. You've got the Key and your wand, right?" Gran nodded. She always enjoyed seeing Harry and Teddy spending time together. Gran didn't ell the boy that Harry had already talked to her earlier that week. "Don't forget your coat!" She yelled as the re-energized youth grabbed his jacket and hurried for the fireplace.
"Hey guys. The Amazing Teddy is here." He bowed, setting his pack on the ground. "Teddy Bear!" The youngest Potter girl hopped up and ran into him. "Hey there. How's my favorite little flower doing today?" Teddy joked picking her up and pretending to eat at her neck.
Teddy had no sooner walked into the kitchen when he was flattened by a toy broomstick. "JAMES POTTER!" Ginny scolded him from across the room. "How many times do I have to tell you not to fly those in the house?"
"Sorry Mum. Sorry Teddy." James looked up slightly at Teddy laughing. "You okay?"
"Yeah. Just caught me off guard is all." Teddy laughed, finding James' red haired mother standing at the stove. "Hey Aunt Ginny. What smells so good?" Teddy sniffed at the air.
"Breakfast. The kids wanted biscuits and eggs for dinner." Ginny rolled her eyes. "It'll be ready in a few minutes." Teddy sat his bag down on the couch. He pulled out his list and started checking off what all school supplies he had bought already. "Where's the other one?" Teddy asked, noting the house seemed one Potter short.
Green flames erupted in the living room as Harry walked out of the fire. "Right there." Ginny laughed. "Albus is upstairs. He was up all night working on a puzzle Charlie sent him. Would you go tell him dinner is ready? And change while you're at it. You smell."
"At least they're not kissing." Teddy whispered. "EWW! Mum and Dad can't kiss." Lily screeched. The three stated laughing as Teddy set Lily down on the ground.
"Lily, be a dear and go set the table. Teddy, would you like some coffee?" Ginny asked offering a cup. Teddy thought about it for a second before answering. "No thanks. It's been a long day. I'm kind of tired. Besides, if I do then James will, you know?" Teddy enjoyed his "little brother", even if he was excited to spend time with him.
Dinner was filled with Harry talking about the things at work he could talk about and James and Albus asking Teddy about Hogwarts and how he spent his summer. When everything calmed down, the family realized it was past nine o'clock and hurried to get the kids to bed.
"Sorry about your room. We need a place to organize while we cleaned out the attic." Harry apologized again as he helped his godson move his pillows and sheets to the sofa. Teddy waved him off. "I need to go to Gringott's early tomorrow. Around 6 if you want to come that early. Bill's helping me with some Auror business." Harry noticed the youth wince at the mention of the eldest Weasley's name. "Things bad between you two?"
"Me and Bill?" Teddy asked. "I- don't know. Me and her have been better if that's what you want to know." Harry grinned.
"I noticed the two of you the last few weeks. You want to talk about it?" Harry offered, fluffing a pillow. Teddy sat down ad pulled off his shirt. "I just wish I knew what happened between us. We were good two weeks ago. Now she's all 'Charmed.' I don't get women."
"Well…It wasn't any easier with me and Ginny. I wasn't sure until after the fact. I just walked up and kissed her one day. I guess that made us official."
Teddy fell back laughing. "Hahaha. Seriously? You did that? I thought that was a joke. I'm not kissing Vic though. Bill would kill me if her or her mom didn't first. You already saw what she did to my face." Teddy yawned and was asleep in a matter of minutes.
Teddy was still half-asleep when the pair stepped into the mine cart with their bluish-green goblin escort. "Potter Vault first. Then, Yours." He said matter-of-factly before pulling the brake and sending the cart roaring down the tracks. Bill Weasley met the cart on arrival at Harry's vault entrance "I brought the trunk you asked for." Teddy leaned over as he watched the two adult wizards go to work, shrinking various items and storing them in the old brown army trunk. Fifteen minutes later, the two shook hands and separated, Harry climbed back onto the car while Bill took a left and walked back down the track behind them.
After a few hairpin turns and a drop from one track to another, Teddy finally relaxed as the cart began to slow. "Here we are. Ready?" Harry asked disembarking and stepping up to the huge door. Teddy handed over his key and watched the goblin worked the gears. "I've got something for you. A little something for your fourth year." Harry grinned as the pair walked inside the gold-filled room. Teddy picked up a few books after making his way over to a chuckling Harry Potter.
"Wow. I always wondered where that photo ended up." Harry looked at the photo of the four men in Graduation Robes, laughing and hugging each other.
"Who's that? That man?" Teddy pointed to a tall, gaunt man in the back row. "That's my uncle, Sirius Black. He and your father went to school together. They were in the same year, Gryffindors. That's Remus, your father. There's P- James Potter, my father. He was Head Boy their 7th Year. I guess this was one of the last time's they got to be together. I wish…I'd gotten a picture like that." Harry sounded sad but even more beyond that. Teddy pocketed the box of photos and book on magical creatures. Harry reached in and pulled out a brown leather briefcase, motioning Teddy. "I know Hermoine got you one of her Endless Bags for Christmas last year, but I wanted to get you something special. Your Gran also told me you were looking for a book and I knew I had it."
Harry placed the case in Teddy's hands. Brown leather, Gold clasp buckle, a little stiff, but still in good condition. "This is too nice. I can't take this." Teddy argued. Harry put up a hand and pointed at the top gold nameplate above the buckle. "Former Property of Remus John , Hogwarts Academy" The plate had been added to recently to say "Property of Teddy Remus Lupin."
"Your dad would've wanted this. So, how does it feel?" Teddy held it up and slung it over his shoulder. "It feels good. Stiff, too." Harry grabbed his godson by the shoulders. "You deserve it. Congratulations! Open it up." Teddy unclasped the briefcase and opened up the main file. Inside was a bound scroll, a large piece of old paper, and a few photos, including one of Teddy, Freddie, James, and Louis taken in front of Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes the day after Teddy got home from his 3rd year at Hogwarts. "What is this?" Harry put a hand on the young boy's shoulder. "This is yours. This is for a specific use and I don't want you to misuse them."
"This is a Communication Scroll. It connects to one I have in my office at the Ministry. If you ever need to talk to me, you just have to write on it. I'll check it every day and help you if I can. This," Harry said, picking up the folded parchment, "is the Marauder's Map. It was created by four mischievous children who needed a way to sneak around undetected to help one of their own. To use it simply tap the map with your wand and say 'I Solemnly Swear That I Am Up To No Good.'" As if by magic, black ink started showing up on the page.
"Messers Padfoot, Moony, Wormtail, and Prongs present The Marauder's Map." Teddy saw lines form and then feet start walking around the halls of "Hogwarts! This is a map of Hogwarts." Harry nodded before speaking. "Aye. This map was given to me by your uncle Fred and George. Helped me out a lot during my school years. Now, I return it to it's rightful owner. Your Father was an Animagus. A Werewolf. He had to leave the castle and be secluded on full moon nights so the four of them created this map to rendezvous without being detected by staff. Padfoot was Sirius, a big black dog. Prongs was my father, who could turn into a Stag deer. This was your fathers and now it is yours. I'm not sure I trust any of the other kids to use it respectfully." Teddy agreed, knowing the trouble that James, a trickster by heart, alone would cause with it. "To erase this, simply say 'Mischief Managed'." The footsteps slowly started disappearing.
"Teddy, I trust you with this because I know you and you're a good kid. That being said, DO NOT TELL GINNY OR HERMOINE ABOUT THIS! They would kill me thrice over." Harry smiled nervously. Teddy nodded, slipping his cargo back into his bag along with a chest of gold. Teddy started back towards the door when a glint caught his eye. It belonged to a necklace attached to a photo sitting on a desk near the entrance.
The necklace was beautiful. A gold chain link with a large ruby on the end, a gold dragon encircled the dragon and pointed upward in a fire-breathing look. Teddy held it up to the light. "This is beautiful." Harry agreed looking at the picture of Tonks and Remus on their wedding day.
"It was Tonks'. A wedding day present form Charlie. They were best friends back when they went to school together. She was a Hufflepuff. Kind of surprised everyone when you went to Ravenclaw." Teddy exited the vault taking his key back and bracing for the ride back to the surface.
"Well, it's only 7:30. How about we get some breakfast then go do some shopping. "I want to go look around Borgin's. What about you?" Harry asked as they trod down the street.
"I want to go get some new goggles and at least look at the new brooms." Teddy reminded himself of the owls he got last week. "Slytherins got the new 3s. ALL of them."
"Well, we can't have that now, can we? If Gryffindor can't win the Cups, Ravenclaw will." Harry fist pumped the air. "Also, Fleur wants you to keep an eye on Victoire. You know, the veela blood."
"I guess you need to know how I got this then." Teddy laughed, pointing at his eye.
