Chapter Six: I…Can't.

I groaned and smacked my lips lightly. I blinked open my eyes and snuggled into the pillow. At least, I thought it was a pillow. It felt… hard. I blinked again and opened my eyes wider to look up and stopped moving immediately.

Yamaken face was calm and a small snore escaped his lips. I felt confusion roil into me before I realized that I was the one who had lay down on him.

He had his head propped up with one arm and the other was draped around my shoulders. I got up slowly and out of curiosity, I look closer at his features. He had long eyelashes and beautiful aristocratic features.

I lowered my eyes and smiled at him. Who knew that Blondie was such a sentimental?

My eyes wandered to his lips. They were so soft. I blinked and shook my head.

What am I thinking?! Gosh! I can't think about falling in love with anyone! I… I just can't!

Moving away from him slowly, I got up and went over to the corridor to get my things. Halfway packing, I heard a small moan and winced.

He's waking up.

I heard a shuffle and footsteps. "S…Sayuki?"

I look up and couldn't help smiling.

Yamaken looked like a little boy waking up, with his shirt hanging off one side of his shoulder and he was rubbing his eyes. I got up and sling my bag over my shoulder. "Ohayou, Blondie-kun~"

He frowned slightly at me, "You're leaving so early?" I nodded and smiled gently, "Yeah… I need to go meet my brother."

He took his bag and coat. "I'll walk you home then."

My eyes widened in surprise, "N-no. It's okay, Blondie." After how I woke up, I just felt plain awkward.

He took up his bag, "I don't want to hang around any longer anyway. Who knows what Mabo and the others would want me to do later." I thought for a heartbeat and nodded, giggling, "Yeah. Alright." I walked towards the front door, "Hurry up now."

Yamaken's P.O.V

I watched her blankly and walked past her out the door. I heard her sighed wearily and she followed me out, closing the door behind her.

When we got out and into the morning bustle of the street, I turned towards her, "I'm going to get breakfast. You want to join me?"

I watched her stiffen and her clutch on her bag grew tight, "N-no. Thank you. I have to hurry home." I felt an eyebrow raised up at her sudden embarrassment but decided to shrug it off.

"Alright. See you." I said dully and she gave a quick nod before walking away.

I watched her until she made a turn to the right and then she was gone. I sighed and turned towards the café.

Getting my drink, I walked to a seat at the corner. Sitting down, I took a sip from the drink and pondered about Sayuki's sudden change.

Was it because of last night? I suddenly had a mental breakdown from sitting to close to her and she kind of made me feel better by hugging me.

I took another sip and looked outside, watching the people pass by the café.

I feel a little bad that she had to see it and with her embarrassment just now, she must have felt awkward. I smirked a little.

Her clumsy shyness just now was kind of cute.

Sayuki's P.O.V

I walked for ages and kept my eyes on the ground, thoughts blurring my mind. I can't like anyone and I don't have the capability of doing so. So why is my heart pumping like mad?

I was so deep in thought that I didn't even realize I was beside the basketball court until I heard the chains beside me shake. I look up and was face to face with a little white puppy with short stubby ears inside the court. It barked pitifully and I smiled at it, "Well, hello. What are you doing inside there?" It wagged its tail hopefully and I laughed, "I'll get you out in no time, buddy. Stay there." It sat down and watched me walk all the way to the door.

I opened the unlocked door and sauntered in. There wasn't anybody playing today even though it's a holiday. Maybe they were on a trip somewhere.

I turned back to the pup, bend over and cooed at it, "Come here, buddy… Come on." It barked and jumped towards me, its tail wagging madly, I laughed as it got to my feet and pounced on my knees with its stubby white paws, barking.

I ruffled its head, asking out loud, "How did you get in here huh? I do wonder." It barked and turn in circles, its eyes never leaving me and I laughed again, "I have a cat at home though. I don't think I can bring you home, as cute as you are."

It whined and pawed my feet, its eyes begging. I sighed helplessly, "Oh fine. Come here, you." I crouched down to carry it up in my arms. It licked my face and snuggled into me, making me giggle, "You are quite the charmer, aren't ya?"

I lifted it up to look at it in the face, "What am I supposed to call you?" I looked briefly at the bottom and grinned at it, "You're a boy, huh? Hmm… I guess I'll just call you 'Chibi'." It barked twice and licked my face, making me giggle, "Yeah, you're welcome, Chibi." I carried it up in my arms and kissed its nose, "Let's get you home, buddy."

I knocked the door and let myself in, "Tadaima." I announced and took off my shoes with one hand as I was carrying Chibi in the other arm.

"Okaeri, Imoto!" I heard Sasayan called out. I walked into the house and I saw Kurosaki on the couch, watching Chibi curiously. I smiled, that's a good sign. I bent over to Kurosaki, lifting Chibi nearby him, "Kuro, this is Chibi. We're going to keep him alright, so be nice." Kurosaki blinked slowly at Chibi before looking up at me and meowed. I smiled and nudged Chibi, "Say hi." Chibi wagged his tail and licked Kurosaki's nose, much to my surprise, Kurosaki tapped Chibi's nose with his paw in reply.

I laughed, "You'll both get along fine." And I set Chibi down beside Kurosaki.

I saw Sasayan come out of the kitchen with his apron on and I blinked, "Nii-chan? You're cooking?"

He frowned, "Hey, what's that supposed to mean? I'm not that bad." I laughed and shook my head, "I meant that there's no need. I wanna go out and take breakfast." He smiled, "Good. Because I was just washing the dishes. Now I don't need to bother then. I'll go up and change."

Then his eyes finally spotted Chibi as the pup was rubbing his head on my leg. "Well, hello." Nii-chan squatted next to Chibi, and stroked him, "Where did you find this little guy?"

I smiled down at the pup as he enjoyed the affection, "At the basketball court. No one was there anyway so I brought him home. He didn't have a collar either." Sasayan nodded and laughed as he got up, "Well, now we've got a cat and a dog. Mom and Dad's gonna be pleased."

I mirrored his grin, "I know right?"

At night, as I was lying down with Chibi dozing beside me, I pondered on everything yesterday night.

Sasayan had gone off to Haru's for some reason and left me with the pets. Not that I'm complaining because sometimes I do that too.

I scratched Chibi's ears as the thought of Yamaken creeps into my mind. His breakdown yesterday was baffling and left me vulnerable when I comforted him. I bit my lip. Was it some sort of stupid trick to let me get close to him? What a jerk.

My phone buzzed, alerting me that a message just came in. I frowned slightly and got up, careful not to wake up the pup. I took my phone and looked at it. It wasn't in my contacts so I just opened it up to see.

: Sayuki. This is Kenji. I got your number from Miyu.

I groaned. That girl. I continued reading the message.

: I hope whatever happened yesterday stays. But sorry if I had made you feel uncomfortable. That is all.

Yup. He is definitely a world-class, champion jerk of the year.

(XD Well this chapter ends here…I'm losing my inspiration but I'll try my best okay? :3)
