Adisa experienced fear many times in her life. The most terrifying being the day her vision started to fade before her. A stranger had approached her, and in a colourful wind of magic threw a spell at her. She had been so stunned at the time that she allowed the colorful wind to hit her, and even as an adult she regretted not being able to move.
Her stomach felt light, and it was if she could breathe easier. Her heart fluttered and slowly black clouded her vision. When it was all over the light feeling that spread through her body was gone and she was left in darkness. The man said something to her, and at the time it made no sense because to Adisa the man was a stranger.
Her parents were devastated and when her sister had admitted that she knew who the man was, and it was indeed her the spell was for, a sickness overcame Adisa. She knew at that moment her blindness was eternal. The stranger had disappeared, and there was no way she could break a spell that was intended for another.
The first month was hard, she fell over things and even once fell down the stairs severely injuring herself. The doctors told her parents that she would be almost completely useless, and that she would never lead a normal life. This was also around the same time that her family saw her burden. What was the point of a daughter if you couldn't marry her off?
Word spread like wildfire, and it wasn't long before people knew about Adisa, except they all believed that it was Adisa's punishment not her sisters. People ignored her, and if they did speak to her their words were unkind. There was a few people who physically attacked her, and those were the experiences that were most horrible.
There was a group of boys, who for a couple of years now would pick her up and carry her around the castle. They would scream and hollar whipping her around violently. When they were finished they left her alone, and in somewhere of the castle she didn't know.
Today was one of those days, throwing Adisa over their shoulders they carried her around the castle. She had attempted to get away from them, but they would jump slamming their shoulders into her stomach. Then to throw her off they would spin her around so quickly that she got dizzy.
She figured she must have been in their clutches for about an hour, Bran was nowhere to be found after they had swatted the creature away angrily. Bran terrified that they would hurt her, had flown off to get Loki and for once in a very long time she was truly terrified because she was alone.
One of the men was spinning her around when the laughter suddenly stopped. Adisa had heard the flutter of wings and although she was crying a feeling of relief came over her. The silence that hung in the air was deafening and she could only imagine what would happen next.
Loki had lazily strolled into the hallway his arms behind his back, his mind had already came up with what he was going to do. His anger boiled viciously and he tried to control himself. "If you wish to live, I'd put her down." He said a smile on his face. The group of men looked at him as if he had grown a third head and only the largest one dare speak to him.
"What would you, want with this disgrace." He said lifting the girl up higher with his shoulder. Adisa let out a soft whimper her stomach raw from the constant movement against it. Loki took note that none of these men addressed him properly, it annoyed him even more.
"You seem to think it was your right to ask a prince of Asgard anything? Put the girl down." Loki's voice was deathly calm, the other two men were now shaking in terror whereas the third was clearly going to press his buttons.
This man was much larger then Loki, but clearly he wasn't as intelligent. With a defiant sneer the man swung Adisa around so her feet were barely touching the ground. Loki was appalled to see that he forced Adisa into a head lock. Loki had never seen such treatment of a woman and in his rage flexed his fingers.
The stranger had no idea what was happening, and as he opened his mouth to challenge Loki, Loki sent a ball of magic flying at him. His partners in crime dashed away quickly leaving behind their friend. If Adisa could see what was happening she would understand that the reason why he let her go wasn't because Loki forced him to, but because Loki had changed him into a donkey. The spell wouldn't be permanent, but it was enough to make him think about not touching Adisa again. Truly terrified the donkey bolted.
"It's alright now." Loki assured her, pulling her into his embrace. She instantly settled against him, her heart beating furiously against her ribcage. She took in a deep rigid breath of air, finally able to calm down. She had no idea where she was, but all that mattered to her was that Loki was there.
"I was so scared." She whispered, her fingers tugging at his sleeves. His sent wafted into her nostrils and the soft warmth he gave off made her want to press up against him more. If anyone where to ever catch them she would be in a lot of trouble. The overwhelming urge to go back to their garden started to eat away at her. There they would both be safe.
"I know." He replied, finally pulling himself away from her. With a gentle hand he pulled her hand onto his arm and escorted her back to their garden where they could be alone.
Both Adisa and Loki thought that this would be the end of the incident until three days later. Adisa was sitting in the garden happily waiting for Loki when the sound of clanking metal interrupted the silent garden. Bran swooped down beside Adisa curious that such a sound entered the garden.
Adisa knew that it had to have been the guards, and turned her head calmly to hear it better. They had never before entered the garden and the abnormality of it had her curious. She had determined that there was three guards, and that they were searching for something because they stopped just feet from her.
The three men looked from the bird and then to Adisa and quickly determined that she was the one they were looking for, but by law they had to ensure that she was indeed the right person.
"Adisa Biorn-dottir?" A man asked, shifting his weight, confused Adisa nodded her head. The men had heard what they needed to and with great strength they grabbed Adisa by the arms and begun dragging her. There was a loud squawk from Bran and a new type of fear set in her stomach.
When the boys grabbed her she knew that at some point she would be left alone, and that no real harm would come from her. But these people were new, they were strangers and the fear of being murdered settled in her chest. Adisa screamed and struggled against the men, making it a little more difficult to carry her to their destination but at the same time she caused damage to herself. Deep red marks were appearing on her arms and much later they would turn into deep purple bruises.
The sound of Adisa's screams caught the attention of everyone they passed, but more importantly they caught the attention of Friggia who looked on in horror knowing what was about to happen. She wasted no time running down the hallway after Loki who was the only one who could solve what was about to happen.
Without remorse the men threw Adisa on the ground. She hit the ground hard and gently cradled her hands her wrists radiating with pain. She tilted her head to hear any sound at all, and was startled when a booming voice echoed throughout the entire room.
"Adisa Biorn-dottir, you stand accused of stealing a raven from the royal garden. How do you plead?" This new voice boggled her mind, she didn't understand what was going on and instead of pleading her case she shifted her weight and muttered out that she didn't understand.
Odin lazily motioned to the guard who was holding Bran in his hands; the bird squawked and turned its head to bite down on the guard's fingers. The bite was indeed painful to the man, but having worse pain in his life he held tightly onto the bird.
"It has been brought to my attention that you had this bird in your possession. Is that correct?" Odin asked again, waiting impatiently for the girl to respond. Adisa couldn't form words in her head, she was only now starting to realise how serious her situation was.
The man who was questioning her had to be Odin, and he was accusing her of stealing a raven from his gardens. Adisa didn't even know what Bran looked like, so anyone could tell her what kind of bird he was and she would believe it.
Adisa couldn't answer, she knew if she said the bird came to her that no one would believe her so she bowed her head in shame. She should have asked Loki what kind of bird Bran was, or she shouldn't have picked up a wild bird at all.
"Do you not realise that theft of this kind is punishable by death?" Odin questioned leaning forward in his chair. The woman in front of him was quite curious and he had never seen anyone act the way she did when questioned. Most people cowered at the sight of him and pleaded for their lives.
"Yes." Adisa answered her soft voice barely audible to anyone in the room. Leaning back in his chair Odin determined that the girl was probably guilty to him it was the only explanation as to why she had the bird and why she looked so guilt ridden.
"And you do not plead your case why?" He asked, waiting for any kind of answer from the girl. The pain in her wrists had lessened to a dull throb, no longer needing them by her chest she gently rest them in her lap.
"Because if I told you the truth, you would not believe me." She uttered, she knew at this moment that the king would probably bring down his full justice on her and there was nothing she could do to stop it. A loud bang echoed from the entrance of the throne room, and Adisa jumped not expecting anything but the King's anger.
"Adisa."
Her head perked up hearing the voice of Loki. His hands gently cupped her face; she could hear the Alfather speaking to his son. She had no idea what the King was saying, she was too happy to hear Loki's voice.
"I'm so sorry." Loki whispered before standing up to deal with his father. Adisa had no idea what Loki had to be sorry for. She tried to grab for his hands, but he was too far out of her reach. The only thing she could do was listening.
"I gave it to her." Loki spat, his eyes looking up at his father. It was moments like this that he felt hate for the man. Loki wanted to lash out and tell him how much he hated him, but he knew with Adisa there that it would get him nowhere.
Odin flicked his hand dismissing the guards from the room, leaving the three of them to speak. Adisa tilted her head in confusion the cluster of sounds off the walls not giving her a clear picture of what was going on.
"You are aware that by giving her a raven, you have asked for her hand in marriage?" Odin asked his face hardened; Loki knew full well what it meant she would have to be crazy to accept the hand of a stranger. It was the reason why he kept it secret that he had given one to her. Loki nodded his head no longer having anything cleaver to say.
Laughter filled the room, and Odin stood up, a smile on his face. This was a day that Odin never thought would happen, his youngest son engaged to a young woman. Odin didn't even care that the girl was blind, because Loki could have made a much poorer choice.
Standing up from his throne Odin made his ways down the stairs and roughly placed a hand on Loki's shoulders. This was something Loki had only really seen him do with Thor, and although his heart was beating harshly in fear he felt slightly proud. Adisa heard his feet echo off the ground and used her hands to push herself up. She hadn't known that king now stood before her and jumped when she felt a gentle hand on her face.
"My wife and I would be very happy for you to join us for dinner. It's not every day we welcome a new daughter to the family." The king was estatic over the news, and didn't leave Adisa much time to answer before he walked away from the couple and towards his own wife to share the news.
"Of course." Adisa said forcing a smile on her face. She didn't know what to think at this moment, so she felt it was best just to pretend she knew what was going on. Loki watched his father leave carefully, and once he was sure that his father was out of hearing range he tried to think of anything that would allow him to explain to Adisa why he had given her a raven without her knowledge.
"Your father is a very scary man. I don't know if I will ever get used to it." She marvelled clasping, her hands in her lap. Her beating heart had started to calm down, and she could finally hear herself think. Just hearing her voice brought calmness over him, it made it easier for him to think.
"Adisa…" He called watching her slowly unwind form her terrifying event.
"It's okay, but I would have liked it a lot better if you proposed to me and I knew you were." She hummed a small smile on her face.
Please keep reviewing.
