Loki hated Adisa's family and he had only spent a few hours with them. Adisa's mother, who normally fussed over her, lingered over her even more and the smothering behaviors, was starting to wear on Adisa. She had been banned from seeing Loki alone, until after they were married. Loki was allowed visitation but they were always supervised to ensure her virginity.
Her mother hadn't believed that she was still a virgin when she heard of the news. No one would have expected the younger prince to be interested in any woman, let alone a blind girl and quickly rumors started to spread. Adisa's mother had been shocked that she was in the middle of a scandal. People spoke of her daughter as Loki's whore, and to ensure her daughter was still a virgin she had a healer check.
Adisa was shaken the next day, and Loki was enraged that they had forced a creepy old man to look up her skirts for something he didn't care about. Her virginity didn't change the person she was, it was only to ensure her family couldn't be even further embarrassed by their situation.
Her mother, much like her father liked to say quick witted responses to Adisa that were meant to hurt. It was clear that her parents didn't approve of her, and even if she had managed an engagement to a prince, she hadn't managed an engagement to the right prince . The very thought enraged him, Thor could never have Adisa. Never.
Even more angering was Adisa's sister, Hallveig. It was clear what Hallveig thought of the wedding, and he could see the jealousy behind her eyes. Hallveig had tried to be supportive of her sister, because somewhere deep down inside, her sister actually cared for Adisa. Hallveig tried to convince Adisa to wear their Mother's wedding gown knowing that the fabric was nothing in comparison to her own when Frigga stepped in.
It was moments like this that Loki very much loved his mother. Frigga had told her family as kindly as possible that the dress was not worthy of a royal wedding, and that she herself would see to a dress for Adisa. Adisa didn't care much for what she wore, because she couldn't see it anyway. So when Frigga had told her that she made the dress beautiful, for once in her life she believed it.
The news of a wedding spread through Asgard like wild fire, and people were soon chattering in excitement. A wedding meant a big celebration, and although he wasn't the beloved Thor, people were still excited. There were murmurs of the dress, the ceremony, but most of all the couple.
Most couldn't believe that Loki was capable of love, but when the realization came that it was Adisa who he had chosen not many were surprised. A few spoke of how he chose Adisa because she was rotten on the inside as well, or because she couldn't see him for what he truly was.
Adisa had softly assured him that she could see who he truly was, and it wasn't what these people thought. People only saw what was on the outside, but she could see people for who they were on the inside.
Pressing her lips together, Adisa tried to keep up with the conversation at the dinner table. Thor was telling her some story and her head was spinning. It was hard to imagine what he was talking about, because she was young when she lost her vision so she had a very little idea of what the world looked like. She could try to imagine what the creatures he spoke of looked like, but her imagination was hardly impressive. It quickly became clear that Adisa wasn't impressed with Thor's story, and for once in his life Thor felt out of place.
She was trying to show interest in his story, but she really had no idea what he was talking about. Finishing his story, Thor rested his hand on the table looking to the couple who sat side by side. He would be one of the firsts to admit that they were indeed an odd couple.
But after a few dinners with Adisa he saw something he never thought would happen with his brother. At first it was easy to miss, but now that he knew it was there he easily saw it. It was simply just the way he looked at Adisa, and the way that they just seemed to fit together.
They could sit in silence, and be completely content with one another and they could have small conversations that were filled with a friendship that ran very deep. Deep enough to conquer up love in his brother's dark heart. In this, he also saw something he didn't for a very long time and that was hope that one day they could rekindle their brotherly bond.
Realizing that a silence now hung over the table Thor shifted in his chair. He hated silence at the dinner table; he believed that a bad dinner was a silent dinner. After Loki's fall, he and his family had spent many nights eating in silence. So thinking of anything to speak of he asked Adisa what colours she wanted for her wedding.
There was a horrible silence that hung over the table, and he felt instantly stupid for asking. Loki was angry that his brother had asked such a stupid question. It was fairly obvious that she was not picking the wedding colours, or had much say in how anything looked. It was their mother who had taken over the wedding to make up for what Adisa could not.
"I'm very sorry Lady Adisa, I did not mean to offend…." Thor was interrupted by Adisa who nodded her head, she was used to people saying things like this because some people simply forgot that she couldn't see.
"Adisa actually picked out the colours herself." Frigga said proudly raising a glass of wine to her lips. It was one of the very few things she didn't have to do for the couple and she thought it was important to give the young maiden credit.
"That's wonderful Adisa, how did you pick?" Thor asked not really interested in colours or gowns, but simply curious how she managed the task.
"I have chosen gold and green. I hear Loki is very fond of them." They was a soft laugh from Loki and Frigga who though that statement was quite adorable for a young bride. No one said anything, they all just peered at Adisa. She had a soft smile on her face, and there was no doubt in anyone's mind that she cared for Loki.
"It was quite easy you know, I do remember what some things look like, colours being the easiest. But I just simply asked." She said removing her hand from Loki's and back to her lap. This came as a surprise to everyone at the table, they had all just assumed that her world was entirely black.
"Adisa, do you see anything at all?" The Queen asked leaning forward in her chair to hear the answer. Loki couldn't wait to hear the answer; he had assumed that Adisa couldn't see anything. He never thought to ask. He often forgot she was blind; it just became second nature to him now to help guide her through the palace, and tend to her.
"I can only really see anything when I dream. But sometimes in the gardens I can see shapes." Adisa smiled, she was unaware of how everyone was hung off her words. It was as if they had never heard anything this interesting before. Thor shifted in his chair his head spinning with questions.
"What do you dream of?" Loki pressed; he knew he only dreamed nightmares. He couldn't remember the last time he had a dream that didn't wake him from his sleep, sweat covering his skin. He had tried an array of sleeping potions, but the dreamless sleeps made him even more tired than just having the nightmares.
"Just colours, sometimes I see flowers, or animals but most of the time it's just colours and feelings." She said tilting her head in thought. She couldn't remember dreaming anything else, she was sure to anyone else dreaming of colours was boring, but to her it was a reminder of something she missed so much. She would give anything to be able to see colours again, or shapes as she walked around in the gardens.
"That is indeed interesting." Friggia said her eyes casted towards the maids who slipped through the door. Dinner had long since been finished, and although they all didn't want to excuse themselves they had to. It would have been rude to keep asking Adisa questions. They all after all had a very long time to get to know her.
"Come." Loki softly spoke, gently running a hand under her elbow and helping her stand up. It was time to take her home, it was one of the rare moments they got to spend alone, everyone keeping such close eyes on the couple.
They both didn't speak until a soft call came from Bran letting them know they were both indeed alone, and that it was safe to speak freely. Slowly the twisting feeling of stress started to loosen in his chest. He missed just having her all to himself, and soon they would be bonded forever. The thought should have made him happier, but he knew the first year would be hard. Everyone would want to meet her, and they would spend a lot of their time under the watchful eyes of the court. They would find little time to be alone, and he wasn't looking forward to it.
"We should sneak off to the gardens." He said stopping Adisa in her tracks. Adisa's smile seemed to grow at the idea, she missed the gardens and although it was getting late she still had some time to visit their hide away.
He took her to a spot that overlooked the harsh waters and put them right in the view of the sun. The heat was comforting on her skin, and she quickly settled down beside him her warm hand wrapped gently around his elbow.
They sat in complete silence enjoying what little time they had with each other. They both knew it wouldn't be long before they had to go their separate ways again.
"It's beautiful." She said, Loki almost beamed with pride before he remembered that she in fact could not see the dazzling sun set. A soft smile was spread across her face and it only got larger as he laughed.
"I thought it was a pretty clever joke as well." She laughed; it was at this moment that he wished that they could look into each other's eyes. He often wondered many things about Adisa, like if she could see would they have ended up where they were now or if she would be like everyone else in the kingdom.
His hand was instantly cupping her face, and she jumped in surprise. Loki was not usually one to be so touchy, and if he was it was usually just his head in her lap. Loki found it hard to show her affection but she understood.
"If I could give you back your sight…." he hadn't realized he spoke out loud, and felt pretty stupid that his thoughts just seemed to slip out of his mouth. So far all his attempts to cure her blindness had failed, and he was slowly losing hope that it would ever happen.
"It wouldn't matter, it would not change my opinion of you. You have treated me better than anyone in my entire life." The very words had brought a smile to his face; he knew the feeling in his chest was happiness. It had been a very long time since he had felt anything but depression and loneliness.
There was just enough light for Loki to see where he was going when he decided to take Adisa back home. He could have guided her home in the dark, but he found that light made it easier for Adisa to walk. The light helped cast some shapes and she was much easier to guide when she had some idea of what was around her.
It was their third stop on the way home, when Loki allowed Adisa to feel some flowers they found climbing up the high stone walls. He didn't mind waiting for her, because she wouldn't have known these items were there without him, and showing her brought wonder to her face. Even if she couldn't see she was still gentle with everything they stopped to explore.
"Tell me, how does a blind girl suck your cock?" A voice asked interrupting the couple, Adisa was horrified to hear such language and quickly jerked around in the direction of the voice. Loki too turned his body to see who had dare spoken so poorly of Adisa and wasn't at all surprised to see the man who he had tuned into an ass. The man looked less than impressed to see the couple, and Loki's sharp eyes caught the thick hair still growing on his arms. His spell had still yet to completely wear off.
The bliss Loki was feeling was gone, and replaced with a rage that burned his chest. If magic didn't get the message across to this man, maybe beating him with his fists would. Clenching his fists tightly, Loki stepped forward his mind blank with rage until Adisa reached out for him.
"Don't, he's not worth it." She said softly, tugging him towards her family home. Loki could have easily overpowered her, ignore her, or even blasted a wave of magic at the boy. Adisa's gentle hands had convinced him otherwise.
"He wants us to react. If we do, we give him something to hate us for." She whispered, her words were successful and as much as Loki hated walking away he knew she was right. If he reacted like he usually would, it would give people something to talk about, and only encourage people to think he was a monster.
For once in a very long time, he walked away from his anger. The stranger seemed to fall apart at the seams that neither of them we're going to react. Loki never thought he could find joy out of something like this, because walking away from the man seemed to be more upsetting to him, then any magic he could squeeze out of himself.
Adisa slipped her hand back into his elbow and slowly directed him towards her home. The moment would have been absolutely perfect if Loki didn't catch wind of what the unnamed assailant piped up. The words so strong in fact that it brought a dark chill to his Loki's body.
"I see my uncle did choose the right sister. She did after all choose to marry a monster."
It was enough to make Loki pause, Adisa didn't seem to hear what the stranger said and gently tugged him away. Loki would not let the comment slide; he would later punish this man for not only calling him a monster but for knowing who casted the curse upon his beloved.
Slowly he started to spin a plan.
