A/N: Hiya! Hello all, been a while since the last time I updated and I am going to tell you how happy I am to be able to get this fic moving again. I have some difficulties in this one and required Talons help and some music to get my mind going! Also, I got mixed feelings with this chapter cuz some part is good while others.. left much to be desired.
Anyway, Talon couldn't make it here for this chapter since he gotta study for chemistry. Poor guy. That aside, I wanna thank you guys for the awesome lot of reviews. Now, for the replies to your awesome reviews!
DanielleFenton: Yep.. I originally debated about it since it was kinda a dick move to pull that to a baby. But then, I remembered that Pokemon grew up much much quicker than human and that they are also basically a super-powered animal with human mind. So.. I did the math and that's my decision. It turned out pretty hilarious, actually. For leo, less said about him, the better.
PhantomSpirit12: You're so.. so lucky. My mom gave the talk to me once and I couldn't look at myself in the mirror the same way again.
Sonic155: Let's mourn them. Then laugh at them. :)
Zane Tribal Tyne Alexandros: Yeah, man! Thanks for the support, appreciate it a lot. A kiss from Riptide for you! Lol.
Silvermoon170: Hey thanks, bro! To answer your questions, yes. The ghost could pick up on it and will definitely take notice of it -this chapter will revolve around ghosts after all. Thanks for the compliments Moon, and you'll see the continuation!
Owldusk: Chansey is a nurse, yes, but..can you imagine a nurse as cute and pure as a chansey to have an imunity to Torch's vulgar tongue? I can't. Really, it's just a bad match up. I'll think of your suggestion, thanks dude.
DragonStar7Queen: Haha, thanks girl. That's certainly a catchy phrase to put in the previous chapter, a shame I didn't think of it.
Makolik: Your feeling.. is quite accurate. *thumbs up.
Again, I hope this chapter live up to your standards. It will be pretty confusing at first but that's gonna be the key for the next chapter. Hopefully I could do it good cuz' I don't think Talon's gonna be happy with me If I took his basketball time again. Anyway, ENJOY!
Chapter 11
"Crud." Danny eyed the sky in dismay, groaning as the dark clouds thickened instead of thinning as if mocking him for his misfortune. Deciding that simple drizzle wasn't enough, the sky rumbled before letting loose a literal downpour on their heads. "Let's just go to that haunted house." Danny said with a deadpan, ignoring the whimper of fear from the redhaired trainer as he headed
Danny felt decidedly regretful of enjoying himself too much on his training excursion with Leo. The Eterna Forest, while too green and foresty for him too like, was indeed a very productive and effective training spot with the many Trainers and Bug-hunters inside of it, along with the hundreds upon hundreds of Bug-type Pokemon and other varieties living inside its leafy canopy. Needless to say, his adrenaline and battle-spirit got too hooked up with everything the forest have to offer.
He was so hooked up that he didn't realize that in search of better and stronger opponents, him and Leo had strayed from the dirt trail and into the depths of the wood and wound up getting lost. As if to scorn their already bad fortune, the sky decided that it was a good time to pull a Bollywood act on them and summoned a blanket of dark clouds and rain which brought them to their current condition.
"D-danny!" Leo stuttered, fearfully eyeing the victorian style mansion as if the house would suddenly turn into a horrible monster and swallow him up. "Pause, time out! Aren't you afraid of getting cursed?! You shouldn't just barge in there as if you own the place!" He screamed out at him, gripping the edge of his black and white jacket and desperately using his leg to stop the halfa's advance.
"Leo." Danny turned around and gave a rare serious look to the naive, happy-go-lucky redhead. "I'll protect you. Your team will protect you. We will all protect you." He assured.
"The ghosts will curse us!" He cried out fearfully.
"Sure they will." Danny rolled his eyes, amused at the younger trainer's unreasonable fear of ghosts which secretly puts a damper to his mood since he was, for all intents and purposes, a half ghost. "Now, let's go inside before I get anymore drenched than this." It was physically impossible to get anymore wetter than it already was for him, being drenched from head to toe and all.
Danny pushed upon the dark, rusted, iron gate, flinching as it creaked from the movement forced upon it before he stepped in to the grounds of the mansion. Immediately, a literal cloud of icy blue vapor forced its way out of its mouth. Not a wisp, not a puff, but a whole cloud of blue mist. Danny narrowed his eyes at the house.
"Danny?" Leo called hesitantly.
"It's nothing." He said. "Nothing at all."
The raven haired teen cautiously made its way into the mansion, carefully eyeing its every opening to see any presence that indicated any hauntings in the house. Finding none, Danny cautiously stepped into the porch and carefully pushed open the massive double gate, creaking eeriely as it swung itself open. Danny and Leo peered inside, pleasantly surprised to see the good, if slightly dusty, condition of the mansion.
"Well, I don't know about you, but it looks good to me." He quipped.
"I think it looks more like the stereotypical creepy, abandoned houses in the middle of nowhere jampacked with ghosts and demons. We should probably avoid the cellar in case there is an evil book encassed in barbed wire." Leo answered as he eyed the hall in front of him. "Scratch that, I think we should get the hell outta here!" He was freaking out, It doesn't take any rocket science for Danny to know that.
For a moment, Danny found himself wondering how on earth did Leo make a reference to the Evil Dead movie. He quickly abandoned those thoughts before walking into the large, dark hall in front of him, prompting Leo to quickly follow him. In a totally cliche way, the door suddenly slammed itself close with a loud bang, severely startling Leo and annoying the hell out of Danny.
"Now where the heck is the switch?" Danny muttered to himself, night-vision activated to allow him better sight on the darkened room. Unbeknownst to them, several pair of glowing red eyes was staring at them with long, streched out, mischievous grins on their faces.
::Keke.. New friend!::
::Greet greet?::
::Go greet!::
::The other.. red boy, how?::
::Play.::
::Let's play lots of games!::
::Kekekekekekekekekekekekekekekekekekekeekkeekkek!::
Leo shivered in fear, feeling the sudden need to bolt out of the house and put the minimum distance of one kilometre between him and the old mansion. The red head knew it, someone out there was talking things about him and plotting something to make him miserable. With a gulp, the redhead clutched tighter on Danny's arm.
"Leo." Danny began, his tone slow and tired as he used his unoccupied hand to pinch the bridge of his nose. "You're cutting the blood flow of my hand." He said, prompting the younger trainer to look down to the slightly blue hands of the raven haired trainer. With a sheepish, uneasy laugh, Leo lessened his hold on him but not quite letting it go.
Danny released an exasperated sigh at his companion's fear of ghosts before taking another step into the house only to get sprayed by what looked like a giant cloud of dark smoke. Caught off guard, the two of them moved by reflex and covered their eyes and nose to stop themselves from inhaling and possibly choking on the smoke-like gas.
A series of coughing later and Danny decided that he had had enough of the smoke and used some of his ghost powers to blow the smoke away. The smoke quickly dispersed from the room and Danny become increasingly aware of the missing pressure on his hands. With a panicked gasp, Danny looked to the side to see that Leo had disappeared into thin air, no trails or sign of his existence except for the slight imprint of his shoes on the dusty carpet.
"Leo!" Danny desperately called. "Leo, come on out! Leo!"
Something did come out.
Just not Leo. Last he remembered, Leo didn't have jagged smiles and short plump body the colour of toxic gasses.
"Great.." He said, a wisp of blue smoke making its way out of his mouth with every word he uttered. "Just what I need, been a while since I fought with my own power." He glared at the approaching Gengar, green eyes blazing with determination. "Alright, pal, you gonna tell me where Leo is right now, this instant."
Gengar just grinned.
With Leo
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH~" Leo screamed as he zoomed through the seemingly endless corridor, a trail of dust cloud behind him as his feet seemingly rotated like a wheel to carry him away from the two Ghost-type Pokemon floating behind him easily identified as Duskull and Shuppet. The two small ghost laughed cheerfully which to normal human ears was tantamount to creepy laughter, sending Leo's danger sense to go haywire and turned his feet into literal blur of black.
"Evil Spirits begone! Evil Spirits begone! Ohmygoodnessjustleavemealone!" He cried out, pulling all sorts of stuff related to exorcism from his backpack ranging from simple rosary to a large string of peeled, white garlic and throwing it towards the two chasing ghosts.
Duskull and Shuppet giggled some more as they caught the thrown items telekinetically, inspecting them like a collector would a precious item before making a mock scoffing sound and throwing the items away. Both Ghost-type monster childishly chased after the terrified redhead, releasing creepy laughter and throwing random Shadow Balls every now and then, further terrfying the scared Trainer.
"Eek! G-grovyle, stop them!" Leo fumbled around his belt to unstrap his trusty partner's Pokeball before throwing it and releasing...
"P-Ponyta!? I thought I called for- Urgh, whatever just run fast!" He cried out in shock before deciding that it wasn't worth it and just climbed onto the Fire Horse's back and rode away with it. "Hee-ho! Giddy up, girl!" Ponyta tried her best to ran away from the chasing ghost's swiftly taking random turns and jumping down stairs.
The ghosts, seeing that their current playmate was running away, quickly upped their game and increased their speed.
"Ponyta, hurry!"
With Danny
"You're not half bad." Danny remarked with a come hither motion.
Gengar grinned at the challenge and threw herself towards the halfa, three dark claws emerging from her clenched fist in a vaguely wolverine-esque style. Shadow Claw slashed through the air, heading towards his face and Danny quickly conjured an Ecto-shield to block against it. Not letting up, Gengar opened her mouth and propelled her tongue to use Lick, lapping Danny with the fleshy appendage before throwing the thoroughly stunned and disgusted halfa towards a nearby wall with said tongue.
"I take it back, you're good." Danny groaned at the impact, rubbing his head to try to lessen the pain. "Damn, you hit like a pro." With that comment, Danny launched himself forward, throwing am ectoplasm powered punch towards the still grinning Gengar.
The final form of Gastly giggled at the halfa before disappearing into thin air, dodging the attack in the nick of time and causing Danny to stumble at the loss of target. He was suddenly struck as Gengar emerged from his shadow and send a kick straight at his back, once again sending him to the wall with the force of the attack.
Pressing her advantage, Gengar quickly flew towards the still-recovering half human and attempted to send a Shadow Punch at him only to get blocked by an ectoplasm powered kick. Danny grinned before opening his mouth and releasing a replica of Ice Beam, throwing the strong dual Ghost/Poison type backwards while simulatenously freezing her.
Danny hopped back to his feet as Gengar struggled to break the ice covering her. Quickly, Danny flew forward and threw a Ghost Stinger powered punch, which was quite similar with the Pokemon's Thunder Punch, to the still frozen Gengar, hitting her right in the face and sending her back towards the wall.
"Revenge is best served cold." Danny quipped with a satisfied grin as he eyed the dust cloud forming from Gengar's impact with the wall.
::Shadow Ball!:: Several orbs of darkness shot out of the dust cloud in rapid succession, startling Danny and almost causing him to fail dodging them. Alas, experience in fighting ghosts in his home world trained him to be ready and careful and thus, he was able to dodge the projectile. What he couldn't dodge, however, was a Shadow Punch from Gengar to the face.
Danny was send skidding back from the blow to the gut , eyes clenched shut in a vain effort to block the pain and when he finally opened back his eyes, it was to stare at the glowing red eyes of Gengar. His mind, a small part that was coherent through the pain and adrenaline, told his body to move and stare away from the eyes, realizing that Hypnosis was taking its effect. Unfortunately, it was already too late.
::Sweet Dreams..:: The raspy voice of Gengar was the last thing his mind processed before falling unconscious.
The Shadow Pokemon was too caught up in her victory to pay attention to the suddenly flickering light bulb. A shame, had she paid attention, she might have realized that the electrical light source had produced a pair of cartoonish eyes as well as turning orange with a faint, blue outline colouring its edges. Having seen what he needed, the unknown spy closed its eyes and disappeared, leaving the light bulb back into its normal appearance.
With Leo
"Flamethrower!" A stream of fire made its way out of the Fire horse mouth and into the incoming ghosts, halting them from their chase and giving more time for the equine Fire-type to set a long enough distance between herself and the two relentless ghost. Ponyta galloped through the hallways, briefly wondering why they never hit a dead end and if there was ever a dead end in the maze-like mansion before her trainer started to bark orders to shoot more flames to the pursuing ghosts.
Ponyta kept on moving, never minding the fact that she kept on hitting on random items and breaking things on her way and judging by Leo's silence, her trainer paid it little attention as she much as she did which was comforting since the equine Fire-type hoped that her trainer appreciated her.
::Turn left.:: A robotic voice whispered to her ears.
::Who's there?:: She asked, distrustful of the voice in her ears. For all she knew, it could be another ghost trying to trap her aand her trainer by leading her to a dead end.
::The only one you can trust in this mansion. Quick, turn left.:: The robotic voice once again whispers, a hint of urgency in his otherwise emotionless and mechanical tone of voice. Taking a rather bold gamble and giving the voice the benefit of the doubt, Ponyta hit the metaphorical brake and swerved to the left, entering another hallway with several set of rooms, a dead end and a right turn.
::Move straight and go into the last room in the right. Enter, lock the door and turn on the TV. Stay silent.:: Ponyta followed the instructions and dashed towards the last room in the right side of the corridor, kicking the old wooden door open and entering the dark room.
Leo squawked fearfully. In his mind, doors would do little to nothing against ghosts and would instead be the wrapped gift box to present them to the ghosts chasing them. He tried to open back the door but Ponyta restrained him and instead pushed the bolt and locked the door, trapping them inside the dark room.
Ponyta quicklt let go of him and gave a silent, calming nigh which to Leo sounded like a plea to trust her. He did so, reluctantly, and let the fire horse do her job. The fire on her body gave some lighting to the room, revealing that it was something like a servant's room judging by the spartan decoration in it which only included a small bed that looked rather hard and uncomfortable, a bedside table and a small TV.
Ponyta neighed and walked over to the TV, beckoning for the redhead to come over. Curious, Leo approached her and pressed the TV button, turning the electrical appliance on.
"Ah? It's on?" Leo wondered with a tilt of his head. "I thought abandoned houses didn't get any supply of electricity." While it was indeed on, it was showing nothing but blank white color through its screen.
Suddenly, a cartoonish eyes opened from te screen causing Leo to jerk back and let loose a scream before Ponyta silenced him with a soft bop on the head. The TV glowed orange before it finally turned off. A creature, smaller than that of a Bidoof, appeared out of the smoking TV, its body glowing with a soft, otherwordly glow that made it look alien to him.
::Greetings. I'm Rotom.:: The Ghost/Electric type spoke in a robotic whisper. ::I bring grave news.::
Meanwhile..
Danny, hypnotized, floated behind his thrall, red eyes blank and emotionless as he obediently followed the Shadow Pokemon to a large ballroom filled with a dozen of different Ghost-type Pokemon. Gastlys, Shuppets, Duskulls a couple of Haunter and Banette and one Duskull stood in a loose semi-circle as they stared at the undisputed ruler of the Haunted Mansion with the same blank red eyes as Danny's.
::Today, we've got another friend with us.:: Gengar began. ::He was unique.. so so different... But it matters not. We shall all protect this house from those evil Humans!:: Gengar raised her hands and every single ghost in the room followed with a loud cheer.
::Yes. Perfect. Now, let us hunt the little vermint that strayed too deep to the Serpent's den. Keh Keh Keh Keh!:: The gathered ghosts, Danny included, gave their own chuckles before disappearing from sight, intent on capturing the intruder who dared tread on their territory uninvited. Turning invisible and intangible, the hypnotized Danny followed the other ghosts' lead and disappeared to hunt.
Somewhere in the house, Leo gave an involuntary sneeze as an uneasy feeling bubbled from the pit of his guts.
Back to Leo
"Who's Marrlene?" Leo asked, never heard nor recognizing the name.
Rotom gave no visible reaction to his cluelessness other than a simple emotionless gaze. ::Marrlene was the owner of this mansion. She's dead at the age of 56 due to an incurrable disease. She's an avid ghost maniac in live with her partner being the current queen and tyrannic ruler of this mansion, Gengar. Since her death, several company has, for various purposes, demanded the demolition of this Mansion which was what started Gengar's tyranny.:: Rotom retelled, its voice droning like a broken radio. ::She lured in other Ghost-type Pokemon into the mansion with the promise of a save haven before hypnotizing them and placing them as soldiers to protect the house from other Pokemon and Humans.::
Leo nodded. "I see, so basically, she can't move on from the death of her trainer and wanted to preserve everything that connected her to Marrlene, right?" Leo summarized, unaware of Rotom's confused gaze.
::I.. am incapable of emotions.:: Rotom said with a sad tone, or as sad as a mechanical voice could get, in his voice. ::Forgive me, I couldn't comprehend what you just said.:: He apologized but as usual, he lacked the sorry-ness in his voice.
"Don't mind me." Leo doesn't seem to mind much of it.
::Gengar, kidnapped anyone who tried to harm the house in any way, shape or form and locked them in the basement of this house. So far there was thirty five people below -starved and dehydrated for several weeks. Your friend, a boy with black hair, is probably with them.:: Rotom lied through his teeth since it wasn't sure if the young Human knew that his friend was actually a ghost. Hundreds of question flew inside its mind even as it talked; Was the boy truly dead? How did he interact with the living? How did he survive so long without passing over or getting corrupted or turned into some sort of Ghost Pokemon? Should he keep this a secret from Leo?
::Intriguing..:: Rotom mumbled to himself.
"Oh my god! Is he okay? Gengar won't kill him right?!" Leo hyperventilated.
::Unlikely. The probability of it happening was below nine percent, however, there could be many things she might do to your friend so you must hurry if you want to free him.:: Rotom's voice informed them urgently, although no trace of worry could be found in his flat, mechanical voice. For now, the Plasma Pokemon decided that he would keep the knowledge of the other boy's dead status to himself. It wasn't his business so he won't intervere.
"Can you lead us to this basement?" Leo asked, gaining an inner fire as the live of his friend was put on the metaphorical edge of the hill. Ghosts, demons, cursed book or whatever, come hell or high water none could stop Leo Hashiri when he sets himself on something.
::Who do you think you are talking to?:: There was a hint of smugness in there, Leo could hear it as clear as day. ::Come, let's get your friend.::
Outside the room
Outside the safe boundaries of Rotom's room, the two ghosts prowled in search of their target, debating and arguing on the direction he went to, unaware that their target was mere meters away from them, cooking up a plan to get them down on their butts.
::Right!::
::Left!::
::Right!::
::Left!::
The door exploded outwards and before the Duskull and Shuppet could react or otherwise do anything, they were both assaulted by a combination of Discharge and Flamethrower, cooking them while simultaneously electrocutting them with voltage upon voltage of electricity. The two Ghost-type fell to the ground, knocked out and unconscious.
Ponyta came rushing out of the room, Leo clinging on her back as she galloped through the hallway following the lead of the Plasma Pokemon who shouted random turns and secret passageways at random interval.
::Remember the plan.:: It warned. ::Gengar needs high amount of concentration and mental focus to keep so many ghost under her control. There's a 98 percent chance that she will send her lackeys to hunt and catch you -If your team loses before hers, we're doomed. That's why, our priority is not defeating her lackeys but to find her and use THAT on her. No ghost could resist the pain of THAT on their bodies, got it?::
Leo nodded and clutched the bottle in his jacket pocket.
::Good. Operation: Specter Purge, start!::
"Yeah!"
The two pokemon and one human hastened their pace, unaware of a quickly gathering purple fog coalescing behind them.
::Kishishishishi! Found ya!::
