Hogwarts Adventures Year One, Chapter Four
It seemed like no time at all, Rob and Chris had gotten up, and dressed for their first day of lessons. They had finished putting on their slacks when Chris looked at his watch.
"Crap! It's almost time for breakfast!" he exclaimed.
"Well let's get a move on! I'm starving!" Rob replied. They quickly finished dressing, and ran out of their dormitory, and ran into Jessica, who was already dressed, and looked rather annoyed with the two boys.
"You two forget to set your alarm? Or just wake up too late?" she asked, rather irritably.
"Both." was Rob's and Chris's reply.
"What am I going to do with you two?" she asked, shaking her head. The three than walked out of the Hufflepuff Common Room, and headed towards the Great Hall. They found three empty seats, and sat down. Rob poured himself some Orange Juice, while Chris loaded his plate with food.
"Chris, relax with the food. It's not going anywhere." Rob said to Chris, while laughing.
"Shut up mate." Chris said through a mouth full of eggs, spraying Rob with them. Professor Flitwick, who had been passing out the schedules, also got hit by some eggs. He looked at Chris with a glare.
"Mr. Bell, I suggest you stop eating like a baboon, and show some manners." Professor Flitwick said. he gave them their schedules, and walked away.
Jessica looked at her brother. "Way to go Christopher. Let's anger teachers on the first day of classes." she said, rather annoyed. Rob rolled his eyes and looked at his schedule.
"Well it looks like we have Charms, and History of Magic today." Rob said. "Both with Ravenclaw too, so we get to have classes with Violet."
"Good." Jessica said, looking at her schedule. "Tomorrow is Transfiguration with Slytherin, and Potions with Ravenclaw, oh and Astronomy with Ravenclaw at midnight."
"Wow. Our whole schedule is with pretty much Ravenclaw." Chris said, spraying Rob and Jessica with bacon bits. Both looked at him in disgust.
"Mate, you do want a wife one day right?" Rob asked.
"Yeah." Chris said before taking a drink of orange Juice.
"Definitely not the way to impress a woman." Jessica said. She then got up from the table, and headed to Charms class. Both boys got up and followed her. They had reached the entrance of the Great Hall when Violet ran up to them in her now blue trimmed robes.
"Hey guys! Can you believe most of our classes are together?" Violet asked them excitedly.
"I know! I can't wait for History of Magic!" Jessica said. Chris looked at her.
"Isn't that the class Katie told us she slept through constantly?" he asked Jessica. She nodded.
"Yep. I found doing her homework quite fun. Can't wait for class to start." Jessica said simply. Rob just shook his head and walked away. He had heard about History of Magic, and the ghost professor Professor Binns who taught the class. He had heard the class was horrible. He had sat with his sister one night and tried helping her with her homework, only to proceed to fall asleep.
The four walked to Charms and finally made it to the classroom. Rob and Chris took a big desk, while Jessica and Violet took a desk next to them. Soon the rest of the class showed up, and then finally Professor Flitwick.
"Good morning First Years. I am professor Flitwick, and this is Charms class. Charms are the most useful spells you will ever learn, as most spells are charms. In this class you will learn to make things levitate, summon objects, and some other neat charms." Flitwick told them. The class then began to take notes, which lasted the entire class. After about two hours, the class was dismissed.
"Well that was a fun class." Chris said sarcastically. Rob laughed.
"I found that class very entertaining. I'm going to enjoy it." he said. The girls then caught up to the two, discussing charms they wanted to try. The four began their way back to the Great Hall, until Lexie Lestrange popped out in front of them.
"Hello losers." she said nastily.
"What do you want Lexie?" Violet asked.
"How do you know my name?" Lexie snapped.
"Sorting. We were all there. Or do you not remember?" Chris replied. Lexie shot him a glare.
"Mind your attitude when you talk to me. My aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange, was one of the greatest witches that ever lived until she was killed." Lexie snapped again.
Jessica rolled her eyes. "You're aunt deserved everything she got and more for being a stupid, no good, dirty Death Eater scum." Jessica said to Lexie. Lexie turned and looked at Jessica with a face full of anger and hatred.
"You will pay for that you dirty bitch." Lexie said in a low voice. She then turned and stormed away. The other three looked at Jessica.
"Way to make her mad." Violet said to Jessica.
"She had it coming." was Jessica's reply. She then began walking towards the Great Hall again, and the others quickly followed. Once the got there, Violet went over to the Ravenclaw table while Rob, Chris, and Jessica sat down at the Hufflepuff table. They had just sat down when James Issac approached them.
"Hey are you lot still interested in trying out for the Quidditch team?" he asked them
"Yeah I am." Chris said.
"Same here." replied Jessica
"Ditto." Rob responded.
"Good. We got the tryouts bumped up to this Saturday at One o-clock in the afternoon. I think with you three trying out we're up to six people." Issac said. He seemed rather disappointed in how many would be showing up.
"Why only six?" Jessica asked, also sounding alarmed at the total trying out.
Issac pointed at a tall blonde haired teen sitting a few seats away from them. "See him there? That's Andrew Tirk, our Seeker. He is a 7th Year, and is being recruited by the Montrose Magpies, the Wimbourne Wasps, and the Pride of Portree Quidditch teams. He's gotten so full of himself no one wants to be around him, not even the rest of our team wants to be around him. He turned into a self loving monster about 5th year. Hell one of our Chasers; Rebecca Green; can't stand him, and she sees the good in everyone." he said. "Hope that doesn't stop you three in trying out." he added.
"Nope, I'm still trying out." Chris said
"Of course I'm trying out. I'm not going to let some full of himself teen stop me." Jessica agreed.
The three turned to Rob, who was eating a piece of chicken. "You still in Rob?" Issac asked Rob.
"Yeah, I'm still in." Rob agreed, even tough he didn't want to deal with Andrew Tirk.
"Alright, hope you guys have practiced, and will practice before Saturday." Issac said. With that, he walked away and sat down next to one of his friends.
"So on top of our first week of classes, we can train for Quidditch too?" Chris asked.
"Classes first Christopher!" Jessica scolded. "Remember, we need good marks to get good jobs."
"But what's the fun in just studying?" he asked.
"Thought we Hufflepuffs were hard workers?" Rob joked. Chris rolled his eyes.
"I do work hard!" he said.
After lunch, the three went back out the Great Hall entrance and towards the History of Magic classroom. Violet had met them outside of the classroom, and the four of them got seats together. Soon Professor Binns came in and did roll call, getting most of their names wrong. The class then endured a long two hours of Binns droning voice, to which Rob and Chris fell asleep after one hour. At the end of the class, the two were woken up with a hit on the head from Jessica's textbook.
"Why did you have to do that?" Chris groaned.
"Because you my dear lovely brother are an idiot who shouldn't be sleeping through classes." Jessica said simply.
"I'm an idiot? What about Rob? He slept too!" Chris said, sounding agitated. Jessica looked over at Rob, and gave him a quick smile.
"Rob's different. He's not an idiot." she said sweetly. As she walked away, Chris shot Rob an angry look.
"Yes?" Rob asked.
"How are you not an idiot and I am?" Chris asked.
"One, she is your sister, and can call you that. Two, she loves me." Rob joked. He then got up and left, with Chris muttering to himself behind him.
After dinner, the trio got their brooms, and headed towards the Quidditch pitch for a quick practice. "I wonder if they would mind us getting the Quaffle out?" Jessica asked the two boys.
"Who knows. Hopefully not." Rob replied. They walked into the changing rooms, where much to their surprise, saw James Issac getting practice uniforms ready.
"Hey James." Chris said. Issac turned around and smiled.
"Hey guys. Practicing?" he asked.
"Yes." they said in unison.
"Here's the Quaffle." he said, giving them a large ball. Chris looked at Issac.
"Can I get the Bludger and a Bat?" he asked.
"Sorry, but not tonight. We'll see what you have on Saturday." Issac said. He then left the locker room, and the trio went out to the Quidditch Pitch with the Quaffle. Rob went by the goal hoops, while Chris and Jessica played Chasers. Jessica threw her first shot, which Rob kicked away from the goal post. Chris threw the Quaffle at the goal post to the left, which Rob managed to grab by the tips of his hand, and threw it back to Jessica. Jessica shot for the right post, which Rob knocked away with the tail of his broom.
The three continuously practiced throwing the Quaffle at the goals for about an hour, with Rob blocking almost every shot. He missed a total of eight, and was feeling extremely happy about his work.
"Good job Rob!" Chris said, clapping Rob on the back. "There is no way you won't make it on the House team."
"Thanks. I think you should go for Chaser Chris. You did pretty well." Rob said to Chris. Chris had made many attempts at goals during the hour they were out at the pitch, and had made 2 of the eight goals.
"Nah, I'm a Beater all the way." he replied
"Sorry, but Katie and I are the Chasers in our family." Jessica said boldly. Out of her and Chris, she had made the most goals.
"My sister Jamie Lockwood played for the Ballycastle Bats for five years. She trained me to be a good Keeper. It wasn't until before I came to Hogwarts that she said I was a really good Keeper." Rob admitted. The three went back to the locker rooms and returned the Quaffle, and headed back to the Dormitories.
Classes the next day proved to be difficult. Transfiguration proved to be a difficult class. Their teacher, Professor Landfawn was an older man, and was very strict. "Do not think this class will be easy." he told them as they took notes. "This class requires a great amount of paying attention and practice." He then turned a bird that was in a cage into a goblet, and back. Intrigued, the class took more notes, which, like Charms, had lasted the entire class.
Once class had ended, and they went to lunch, the first year Hufflepuffs went to Potions with Professor Slughorn, whom started them off with the simple task of brewing Cures for Boils. He had the class split up into pairs. Rob and Chris paired up, while Jessica and Violet paired up. At the end of the class, for their very first grade, all four received an O for Outstanding. "Good job your four." Professor Slughorn said cheerfully. "I see a great bunch of your Potioneers in you."
"Well that was simple." Violet said.
"Yeah. Old Slughorn went light on us today." Chris said.
The rest of the classes went well for the week. The four had enjoyed Defense Against the Dark Arts, which both Rob and Violet had eagerly paid attention to as Violet wanted to be Aurors once they were done with Hogwarts. Both Vioelt and Jessica were interested in Astronomy. Herbology was enjoyable, as were the rest of their classes that week.
Friday night, Rob, Jessica, and Chris went down to the Quidditch Pitch and practiced Quidditch again. This time, Rob only missed 3 times. "Wow Rob, you are a good Keeper." Chris said.
"Told you." was Rob's reply. The trio then saw a person walking over to them. It was James Issac.
"Hey James." the trio said. James smiled.
"Glad to see you lot are practicing. Sorry you couldn't use the Bludger yet Chris, but tomorrow, we will see what you got." James said. He then walked back into the locker rooms. The three then got changed out of the practice gear, and back into their normal robes, grabbed their brooms, and walked back to the castle.
"Tomorrow is going to be a good day." Chris said to Rob as they got into their beds.
"I hope so. Quidditch would make this year a lot more interesting." Rob agreed. However, as he laid there, all Rob could think about was screwing up at tryouts the next day, and being the laughing stock of the entire Hufflepuff House.
