Chapter Eight; The Big Bombshell
Hey cookie! I haven't forgotten about you either and it sure is good to see you it's just that I promised my mom that I wouldn't chat with you guys any more about things that aren't story related, but that doesn't mean that I won't try to find a way around it. For instance, have you read my recent stories by the way? I think that they are actually better than my other ones even though eventually I will go back to those. I miss you guys very much and I will always love you and somehow we will always be friends.
April
That evening Rose, Peter, and Jane helped set up a cardboard box for Joy to have her kittens in. Jane had allowed her to use her pink baby blanket to sleep on. "So when do you think that Joy will have her kittens?" Peter asked.
"I dunno it could be days or weeks or any moment now." His mother answered him.
"Mummy where do babies come from?" Jane asked as their father looked up from the book he had been reading and glanced over in their direction while her mother squatted down in front of her.
"Well you see darling you know how you have a mummy and a daddy?" she questioned her.
"Yes." she answered with a nod.
"Well the same goes for kitty cats. It takes a mummy cat and a daddy cat to have a kitten. Do you understand?" her mother asked her as she nodded again.
"Yes but if that's the mummy then where's the daddy?" she asked her.
"Well sweetheart I dunno where the daddy is." Rose told her.
"I'll be their daddy then since I'm a boy and Jane can be their aunt." Peter said as Rose smiled and The Doctor grinned before he went back to reading. "Even though we're not cats." He added.
"That's a good plan." Rose said before she stood back up and turned around to walk away.
"Alright you two it's time to get ready for bed." The Doctor said as he put down his book on top of the coffee table and set his glasses on top of it before he stood up and got out of his chair.
"Aw,.." both of the kids groaned.
"Alright that's enough stop right there and get into the bathroom and brush your teeth. If I don't hear any more complainants then since it's Friday you might be able to watch a movie as long as you get your pajamas on." He said as both of their faces lit up with excitement.
"Yay!" Jane cried.
"Race ya!" Peter exclaimed before he took off running down the hallway with Jane running after him. As soon as they had brushed their teeth they got into pajamas and flopped down on the couch together. The Doctor sat down on the chair while Rose sat down on top of his lap as they started to watch The Lion King.
Every once and awhile Rose would stretch her neck over to look at Joy to see if she saw any signs that she was in labor. About an hour into the movie she noticed that she started to lick herself constantly and pace the box while meowing. Everyone else (except for Shadow who was fast asleep at the foot of the chair) turned to look at her. "What's going on? What's wrong with her?" Jane asked.
"I think it's time." She answered as The Doctor put the movie on pause. Sure enough a few moments later they saw a tiny orange and white kitten crawling around the box and mewing. Shortly afterwards he was followed by two tiny black and white brothers, and three little sisters. One of them was completely white while the other two were calicos like their mother.
"Aww, they are so cute!" Jane exclaimed as they all gathered round in front of the box while the hungry little kittens started suckling on their mother's nipples. Even The Doctor couldn't help but smile.
"Yeah they are, but why are their eyes closed?" Peter asked.
"Well when kittens are born they can't see or hear at first. It takes them a little while until their eyes and ears open." His mother told him.
"Alright guys let's leave Joy to rest and feed her kittens." The Doctor said before they all finished the movie (Peter went potty) and then he and Rose each read them a story before tucking them into bed and kissing them goodnight.
…..
A Few Months Later…
Rose couldn't believe how big the kittens were getting. The Doctor placed an ad in the paper for their mother but nobody had ever come to claim her. Although he admitted that his wife was right and he was getting used to having the cats around and getting quite used to them. Joy didn't seem to mind when Shadow carried the kittens around inside his mouth. All of the kittens were old enough now that they had personalities all of their own and even their very own names.
The two black and white kittens The Doctor had named. The Fluffier one was Elvis and the other one was Prince since he was into old rock and roll music. The orange and white kitten Peter had named Barney after his favorite TV show, while Rose had named the white kitten Faith, and Jane helped her name the two other calicos Harmony and Angel. Angel was their favorite because she had a bit of black on top of her head that resembled a crown over her orange head.
The rest of her body was mostly orange except for her white paws and a big black spot on her back. As Rose called Joy for her breakfast her kittens tumbled along behind her. They were old enough to start eating some of her tuna. "You know guys I love the kittens as much as you do, but pretty soon we've got to start finding homes for them." The Doctor told them as he placed an arm around his wife.
"Can't we keep one?' Jane asked.
"Yeah can we Mum?" Peter questioned her.
"I dunno Peter that's up to your father." She said.
"Well we'll just have to see. We already have a dog and we're going to have another baby around pretty soon." He said.
"Please Daddy?" Jane pleaded as she pulled on his sleeve.
"I said we'll see and no begging. You're not a dog like Shadow." He told her. "And I don't even want him to beg, your mother's the one who taught him." He said when the doorbell rang. Shadow stood up and started to bark. "Don't even start." The Doctor told him warningly as he let out a whimper before laying back down on the ground as he answered the door. It was Jack with a solemn expression on his face. "Hullo Jack, what's wrong?" he asked him.
"I'm afraid it's Jackie," he began.
"Jackie why? What's wrong with her? I thought she was out of town." The Doctor said.
"Well that's what I thought, but it turns out that she's been in the hospital." He said as The Doctor and Rose exchanged worried glances before The Doctor looked back at him. "She's got cancer."
