Chapter 8: Falling into Place
"Warning, warning
Dreams and visions
Tell both sides of the story
Before infinity unravels.
The answers
Found only in the past
Give light to a false hope
As time leaps on forward."
Year: May 13, 2308
Location: DigiDestined Base, Americanus North Pack-Neutral Border
"We need help Strike, we almost lost that last battle" Ryan shot a glance to where Wild lay, still out cold after the token episode "Infinity tokens are dangerous, fine. We wouldn't have to use them if we could find the others!"
"Nobody else is coming, haven't we waited long enough?" Strike growled in response, glaring at the back wall to keep from striking out "Zev doesn't care two pents about what's happening and the other crests could be destroyed for all we know"
Crystal stepped between them, her eyes flashing but before she could speak a knock sounded at the makeshift door.
Strike muttered something and stalked off towards the back, coronamon hesitating a moment before following his partner.
Ryan sighed, going over to check on Wild again as the door curtain shifted and a girl about Rachel's age stepped in followed by her twin brother.
"Is this the base of the DigiDestined?" the girl asked, stepping further in while her brother just sighed "If it isn't I'm going home"
Crystal exchanged a glance with Ryan as she noted their tags but he just shrugged. Turning back to the twins, she forced a smile "Yes, it is, were you looking for us?"
"Yes, yes, the angel said to find you when he gave us these crests" she held up the crest of kindness and poked her brother when he didn't offer his "Mine's kindness and his is reliability"
"Angel?" Ryan muttered, watching Crystal now but she just shook her head and turned back to the kids "What are your names?"
"I'm Lucy and he's Marcus" the girl replied, dragging her brother further into the room as their partners gomamon and gatomon followed them.
"Rachel, why don't you show them around then?" Crystal asked after a moment, going to check out the door.
Ryan waited until the three younger ones disappeared down the opposite hall before he padded over to stand beside Crystal "Something wrong?"
"I'm not sure" Crystal murmured, shaking her head "I had a vision but I don't know what it means"
Ryan didn't press her but instead slipped out of the base and started off down the narrow alley.
After a moment's pause Crystal followed him, her voice low and uncertain "I saw a great dragon digimon facing off against a row of holy knights. Neither side was winning though until four angels joined the battle and destroyed both sides." She shook her head before continuing "Then the smallest of the angels destroyed the other three...it must have happened a long time ago..."
"The dawn of the digital world" Ryan agreed, pausing at the mouth of the alley "Why though? What does it have to do with us and the crests?"
"I'm not sure, and all the answers must lie in the past" Crystal murmured, pausing beside him a moment before darting across the street to the park on the far side.
Ryan watched her a moment, still confused about what that ancient past had to do with them, and then he darted after her. Neither of them bothered to continue the conversation about the strange vision as they continued through the park.
Location: Blizzard Island, Digital World
Zev winced, opening his eyes to bright sunlight glinting off thousands of miles of snow. What happened? He rolled over, catching sight of a cutemon as it darted back into hiding.
Strange digimon, how long have I been here? he unsteadily got to his feet and pulled out his digivice, noting that both of his partners were stored with low energy No help there, it'll be hours before they recharge
As he glanced around again a girl peered out from the spot the cutemon had disappeared then she ducked out of sight again. He waited a moment to see if she would reappear then started towards the spot.
He peered around the ice crusted boulder to see the little girl arguing with the cutemon. The girl started when she spotted him and cowered further into the snow.
The cutemon growled, stepping in front of her partner and glaring at him.
"I'm not going to hurt you, I just want to know why I'm here" Zev murmured, holding out his hands to try and calm the two.
The girl wrapped cutemon in a tight hug and peered up at him "Your garurumon brought you here looking for a healer but he collapsed in the snow over there and devolved before returning to the digivice." She pulled out her own digivice and held it up to him "Mine doesn't store though"
"Yours is an original" he replied, studying it a moment before pulling out his own "Mine is a D-Catie like the DigiDestined"
"I knew you were one, I saw the crests" the girl replied, hugging her partner tighter "That's why I had Cutie heal you"
"Thank you, my name's Zev" he replied, sitting down beside her.
"They call me Time" she replied, studying him a moment "You're one of the wolves right? Only they use names like that."
"You know about the pack?" he asked, surprised "I was one of them but I left a long time ago"
Time smiled, releasing cutemon "Can I meet your partners? Do you know where the other DigiDestined are? Can I can meet them?"
Zev smiled, patting her head as he was reminded of his own little sister "Yes, yes, and maybe. You'll have to wait until my partners recharge though"
Location: Cave of Fusion, Digital World
Koko lined up silently with the other Dark DigiDestined as Pride began the execution. Shizumon was resting but she held mikemon tight in her arms, suddenly uncertain about whether she had made the right choice.
"Bring the prisoner out" Pride ordered Greed as she settled onto the stone tree where she usually rested, her digivice already loaded and in hand.
Greed dragged Wrath out and shoved her into the center of the circle before taking his own place.
Pride watched the cowering figure a moment before activating the sword function of her digivice and holding the watery blade under Wrath's chin "You'll make a fine example, stand up or you'll regret it worse."
When she didn't stand Pride leapt down and dragged her to her feet "I warned you." In one clean motion, she ripped the tag from Wrath's neck and slashed her digivice in half "Take her outside; I don't want my cave destroyed with her raging."
Greed grabbed the suddenly trembling Wrath and dragged her outside, the others following him. As he dropped Wrath onto the stony ground she began to tremble worse, her features changing as the fusion core took over.
Pride snapped the crest of wrath out of the tag as she went berserk; smiling "Let her into the human world, perhaps she can still be of use."
Greed glanced at Pride for a moment then nodded and opened a shadow-port before kicking Wrath's quivering form through.
