Chapter 14: Pack History 1

"Fear the wind
Ride the waves
Destiny has a strange way
Of creeping up.

Where have they all gone?
Leaving so few
To die alone."

Year: May 31, 2308
Location: Wolf Territory, Asiana Pack

Lupus sat silent for several more moments as the sun rose behind them, her eyes unfocused again. When she finally began her voice was low and sad "The pack began with a Lupus, Luna Lupus...
A silvery she-wolf wandered far across the mountains, her paws leaving bloody prints as she left humanity behind. It was many days before she collapsed beside the river where moonlight poured out in a silver sheen, turning her coat nearly white with its brilliance.
No one knew how long she lay there, on the brink of death, but eventually a wolf-boy came by, his fur a coal black and his eyes a bright amber.
He took the wolf and raised her back to health, ignoring the scratches and bites she delivered in complaint. He called her Luna and she called him Talon.
Eventually they became mates and she bore him three children, two she-pups and one boy. The children chose their own path in life, one girl wandering off as a wolf, one staying close to home, and the boy disappeared.
The years passed and other wolves and wolf-humans joined, bringing their own children and customs. The Moonlit Pack evolved with each new addition, spreading out to claim more land.
Decades after the first Lupus died they came to their first clash, a disagreement with the lions over the mountain.
Leo, the lion leader, and the current Lupus fought it out for weeks, neither side winning or losing. Wolf fought lion, lion fought wolf, and it never seemed to end. Then both the leaders suddenly died in a strange accident and two young, inexperienced cubs took over.
The Lupus cub, called Rose by her packmates, sought out the new lion leader Simba to make peace. She had no desire for their parents' war but what no one had expected was for her to become mates with the lion-human.
Rose was nearly driven from her pack and it was many years before tensions eased, most of the lions moved to more distant mountains during that time. Simba gave the camp between the river and the mountain to the wolves to soothe the last war rage.

...the pack lived on in peace for many centuries; cut off from humanity and other spirit packs" Lupus sighed and gazed down at him, a faint smile on her face "We cannot sit here telling all day though without food."
Keith shook himself out of the story and glanced up to see the sun nearing noon "Will you still be here?"
"Of course, I am the one that stayed to keep the legacy after all" Lupus replied, waving him off "Be good and bring something back though for your elder"
Keith smirked and stretched his legs before taking off into the forest "I'll find something"

Location: Central County, Europis Machine

Vadeous sat in the small flat reserved for her by the Europis royalty, her robo-cat perched atop the table beside her while she skimmed over the latest robot schematics assigned to her. She knew the royalty only kept her around because the queen was deathly ill and only the gypsy medicine seemed to ease her pain.
A knock at the door startled her and she dropped the schematic, shaking the thoughts from her head, before calling out, "Open sequence hawk delta…"
The thick metal door slid open silently, revealing a young gypsy boy watching her with fear in his eyes.
"Still not used to the machine automation?" Vadeous returned to her work as he crossed into the room, the door slamming behind him.
"I…umm…" he shook his head, eyeing the door nervously, "The council calls again, the packs would be happier if you left the queen to die…"
"I can do as I please, the queen is no threat to them…" she waved his request aside and stood finally in a long stretch, her eyes turning back to her visitor as she abandoned the work for a break, "Which council calls? There are so many now…it's a wonder the packs can function at all. Food-bot, bring snacks for our guest."
A vending machine-like robot in the far corner blinked to life at her request and rolled over to a control panel on the back wall.
The boy eyed the robot a moment before turning back to her, "The high council led by the highest alpha…word has reached us that your son has joined his pack…"
"My little Keith a spirit evolver?" Vadeous laughed, but the sound was not unkind as she watched the food-bot roll towards them with a platter of finger foods, "He follows his heritage then, tell Alex he better be careful with that one."
The boy shifted nervously, uncomfortable with her light use of the alpha's name, "I will pass the message, will you be joining them for tea soon?"
Vadeous sighed and sampled the platter, setting it on the table beside her robo-cat and dismissing the food-bot, "Yes, it is time we had another tea party. Summer cannot begin properly without one. Open sequence hawk delta theta…"
The boy nodded, starting for the door as it opened again, "They shall make arrangements then…the tri-borders have become noisy…"
Vadeous smirked as the door closed behind him, one hand absently petting her robo-cat as she glanced back down at the unfinished work, "I'm suddenly unmotivated Whiskers, perhaps it is time for a walk."
