Conner had let him go. He watched Wally run in a wide open arc around the funneling gas and trying to dissipate it into the air, his body blurring instantaneously.
But Conner knew the speed that he was traveling wouldn't be fast enough to draw away all the symptoms. He saw as Wally sprinted around. And around. And around.
An odd reaction to the speed is that a slightly yellow-tinge as Wally combined his speed to it. Even Conner, with his enhanced senses, could see the yellow starting to blend into one another.
Meanwhile, M'gann felt a pull in her mind, but she ignored it in favour of keeping the shield around the hazardous gas. She felt her arms and her eyes getting tired from the strain. Despite being a gas, it was dense. Heavier than air, but just less than water vapour. It settled into the skin, the tissues, the body faster than you could fully register. She had managed to put a wall between her and most of the gas when Artemis-
Artemis. Artemis must have breathed in some of the gas. More than the others' had even stop to think.
M'gann turned her mind to Artemis' mind.
Artemis was watching as Wally was running, away from her.
SMACK!
Artemis was thrown to the ground by a strong fist, covered in black fabric. She staggered back from the blow. Blood was starting to seep around her on the floor, pooling in her eyes…
"UMMPH!" Artemis had stopped running and started staggering backward on the ground, half-blind.
"Artemis' been infected!" M'gann yelled out. "Somebody double back!"
"Robin, I will head back for Artemis. You continue." Kaldur yelled, already running back to Artemis' side. Robin nodded grimly, but never stopped running, never stopped moving forward.
Kaldur reached Artemis in ten seconds. She had her arms instinctively in defensive mode, ready for a strike.
"Artemis. Try to calm-" Kaldur was caught off when he barely dodged Artemis' fist from striking his head. She had to have been fighting something in her hallucination.
Kaldur didn't pull out his water beaters or even defend himself. He just dodged the first blow and once the second missed him clumsily, he touched her shoulder and allowed his tattoos to start glowing…
M'gann choked back a gasp as Artemis slumped in Kaldur's arms. He could do that? The bubble started to shrink- FOCUS- she pushed the boundary back and back as far as she could. The pressure in her brain-rising like pushing a balloon together. She squeezed her eyes shut, gripping her palms against her sides, chin pinning to her chest.
"M'gann, I got you." She felt herself being pulled away from her bubble. She had to keep pushing-
"What?" M'gann asked, finally registering after a minute of being pulled.
"I got you. We're out. You can let go."
M'gann's lost the eerie green neon glow as she slowly-slowly put the bubble down. "Artemis? Wally?" She saw Green Lantern Hal Jordan kneeling beside her and her head in Connor's lap.
"They're going to be okay. Kaldur got gassed a little as well. The three are in the med bay." Connor provided.
CCCCKRRRRAAAAASSSSSSHHHH!
"I think that's Wally."
"NOPE, Kaldur broke something." Robin's disembodied voice came from outside the room.
THUMP!
CKKKKRASSSHHH!
"Kaldur?" M'gann asked weakly.
"I think everyone broke something." Hal commented humorously. "How do you feel kids?"
"Like I don't want to do that again, but I can." M'gann replied. Connor nodded, lips pressed together tightly.
Hal nodded. "It's not the most-"
"Wally! Stop!" The Flash's voice was shockingly close to the door then started to fade. "It's Flash! WALLY! STOP!"
"DON'T STOP! RUN!" Wally's panicked voice screamed. "NOT TODAY!"
"Wally, no one is chasing you!" Robin yelled outside the door. "Barry, here's the tranq. dart."
"Why- never mind. WALLY WRONG WAY! HAL, GET OUT HERE!"
Hal looked at the young Martian and the young Superboy.
"Go." M'gann and Connor nodded.
"Stay here, lovebirds." Hal punched the code into the door and took off flying as the door shut behind them. "Okay Barry, attack plan Buzz-Kill."
"Lovebirds?" Connor asked.
"I'll explain later." M'gann smiled and closed her eyes for a moment curling into towards Connor. Her hair fell over her face.
Connor paused for a second, unsure what to do. As her heartbeat rested and her face relaxed into a small smile, he realized she wasn't going to brush her face clear so her gingerly removed the hair and swept it behind her ear.
From the other side of the door, he heard Batman yell for someone to go check on him and M'gann. Next, footsteps getting closer Black Canary punched in the code and step in, ready to say something. Her mouth agape and hung open as she saw M'gann relaxed.
"We can talk once she wakes up." She offered in a soft, kind whisper.
Connor nodded, not taking his eyes off the bird moniker named superheroine. Awkwardly, Black Canary walked out.
"Connor?" M'gann asked, trying to roll over and get up.
"It's okay M'gann." Connor put his hand on her head and started to move his hands against her head, gently ruffling her hair.
"Okay." She mumbled half-heartedly as her eyes closed, learning into his touch.
He smoothed and rubbed her head for a few minutes, listening to her breath deepen and calm. Once he was sure she was asleep, he leaned his head down and touched his lips to the top of M'gann's head.
"Good job."
