"Katniss, how good to have you back. Come in."

"Yes I'm sure this is a lovely occasion, will we be having tea and biscuits to commemorate?"

"Katniss please, sarcasm is such a useless thing. Drop it."

"Fine, let's get to it then. We got there, infiltrated his group, found the source, got the connections as well as the embezzled funds and we killed the bad guy. Good? Great. I think we're done."

I stand to leave signaling Cato to get up and get out the door when Alma comes up behind me and extends her hand as if she wants to pulls my wrist but refrains at the last second. Good choice.

"Where do you think you're going Katniss? You can't just leave."

"Actually I can and I will, I'm tired and I have already told what happened. I'm going to rest. I will see you tomorrow Alma."

With that I walk out the door knowing Cato will follow.

"I'm just going to change and then we will meet up with Clove if that's okay with you."

"Wait, did you actually just ask my permission? You're getting soft Fire Girl."

"Oh shut up, I was so not asking for your permission, I was just informing you so that you could prepare accordingly."

"Yeah right, well, go ahead and get dressed, we still have a long day ahead of us. Don't forget we are required to go see Snow."

God, you come back from a successful op and everyone wants a piece of you.

"Later. First let's get to Clove."

They make their short way to the computer lab to see our girl hard at work.

Wait- our girl? Take a step back Katniss she is just a recruit.

"Clover!" I see the moment she recognizes my voice because she looks up so quickly I'm pretty sure I heard her neck snap. Ouch.

"Katniss! You're back!" She bounces off her chair, comes over and can't seem to stop fidgeting with her hands.

"Shhh Clover, not so loud."

"Yeah, I know, I'm sorry. Just really excited that you're back."

"You'd be the only one."

"You have no idea the things that have been going on here, I finally-"

"Clove what the hell are you doing with her?"

"Excuse you? Who the hell are you?"

"I'm not a traitor which is more than I can say for you."

"Ouch, pretty boy, you wound me. My heart is officially broken because you said the one thing everyone says about me."

"Do they also say you're a murderer?"

"That's rich! What do you think you are going to be once you 'graduate'? Uh? Do you think you are just going to live outside with no duty to fulfill? You know what, I'm going to give you five seconds to shut up before I lose my patience."

Suddenly I see Clove approaching me and the boy in front of me, I hadn't realized that we had been moving closer to each other until Clove places herself between us.

"Please both of you calm down. Katniss this is Thom." She says with a calm voice pointing to him.

"Jesus Christ, this is Thom? You could have told me he was a dick." As soon as the words come out of my mouth I realize Clove is getting hurt. What does she even see in this boy?

"Katniss!"

"I'll stop Clove, I'm sorry for what I said to him." She turns to Thom expecting the same treatment but I notice his reluctance in apologizing for the things he said.

I try to be the bigger person and hold out my hand for him to shake, which he does, after an uncomfortable time.

"I'm Katniss."

"Thom. Well, now that introductions are out of the way, what exactly are you doing with Clove?"

"I still think that's none of your business so why don't you go back to your room recruit?"

"Clove?" The boy turns to her as if she will give him an honest answer. She knows better than that.

"Katniss is helping me with my skills ever since I heard about the rumors of my possible cancelation."

I stare at her with a blank face, hoping that she realizes for herself that what she just did could mean awful things for the both of us.

"I'm sorry Katniss but he won't tell anyone, I trust him:"

"I don't and from what I've seen he would throw me under the bus in a heartbeat. C'mon Cato, we're going."

"Wait!" The boy, Thom, speaks. I turn slowly and watch him walk over to me and Cato, out of Clove's earshot.

"What could you possibly have to say to me?"

"It's just that I won't tell anyone, I wouldn't do that to Clove."

"How sweet." I say with a complete blank face. The boy has to know I mean business.

"I'm serious, I swear I won't tell anyone."

"Am I really just supposed to take your word for it? You do know how this game is played right?"

"I know but you can trust me."

"Doubtful, just remember I'm doing this for Clove, not you."

"Thank you. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if something happened to Clove because she hasn't been getting your help."

"You seem to like her. Let me just get one thing very clear, if you two get involved, you break her heart I'll break your face, do you understand pretty boy?"

"I understand."

It's been about an hour since I've started to train Clove, Thom stuck around but I don't mind his presence as long as he doesn't get in the way. As per usual all Cato does is watch us but today he has a strange far off look in his eyes that I'm not very fond of, I'll be sure to ask him about that later when we're alone.

After sparring with Clove for a while I decide to give the romance in the room a little push.

"Hey Thom, why don't you and Clove do some hand-to-hand combat that way I can see what she needs to improve in her fighting stance."

Clove looks a bit flushed and I can't help but throw her a little smirk.

"If that's okay with Clove."

"Sure, let's go."

As they start the match I go to sit down next to Cato.

"You did that on purpose didn't you Fire Girl?"

"Of course I did! The kid was a bit of a jerk to me but you saw the way he talked about our girl! He likes her and although I should discourage this kind of behavior Clove needs someone, even if it's just for a little while."

"That's really nice of you, especially after the way he treated you."

"What can I say? I guess I'm just the most fantastic human being you've ever met."

"Well you got a part of that right, shame it was only the human being part." I can't help the loud laughter that comes out as soon as he says that. The ever so serious Cato just made a joke and even if it was at my expense I don't care because I see he is laughing too, a rich, deep laughter that just sounds right to me although our little moment is interrupted by a miffed little clover.

"I thought you wanted to see want I could improve in my fighting skills Katniss."

"Calm down Clover I was watching. You need to lead with your right foot and leave your left behind you and angled to the side so that you have support when dodging a blow, you need to stop broadcasting your movements to the world before you make them, you need to be more of an in fighter, keep your arms tight to your side that way your opponent won't be able to tell what your next move is going to be. Do you want more?"

"Okay, okay, I got it, I suck."

"You don't suck, you just need to see how it's done and practice more."

"Alright then, show me."

"Hey Cato wanna spar?"

"You sure about that Fire Girl?"

"As sure as ever." With that I strike, Cato never saw it coming, I give him blow to the chest followed by kicking his legs, he is now on the floor but when I prepare to give him the 'deadly' blow he fights back and we end up struggling on the mats until I end up straddling his chest.

"Hello, come here often?"

"Shut up Fire Girl, witty comments even when sparing, how can you even do that?"

"Honey I'm not even winded, you really need to step up your game."

Bad move on my part, as soon as the words come out of my mouth he picks me up by the waist and threw me down on the mat but I rolled to the side and quickly got up, putting my fists up I prepared for his move.

" C'mon goon, is that all you got?"

"Oh, I'll show you, don't you worry."

After a hearty struggle Cato was the one who won, smiling over me triumphantly.

"Good workout goon, we should do it again sometime. Maybe when we are not babysitting."

"I'm always babysitting Fire Girl. Isn't that what you called me on our first day together?"

"Don't you start with me. So Clove, learn anything?"

"Oh, I learned plenty." She has the audacity to wink! I feel myself getting flushed and cough to rid myself of the strange feeling in my stomach.

"Good, go to bed, we will talk tomorrow."

With that both Clove and Thom disappear down the winding hallways and as soon as they turn to the right I quickly get up.

"Cato, get up and get moving. I want to see this."

"See what? Where are you going we should just get back so that we can talk to Snow."

"Oh screw that, this is much more interesting."

After five minutes we catch up to them. They're talking and standing really close together.

"Katniss let's just go. I didn't realize you were such a snoop."

"I'm not a snoop, I'm a highly trained spy, besides, I'm concerned. I want to see what he does now that he knows."

I see Thom reaching for Clove's hand and I slap Cato's arm.

"I bet they are going to kiss, and this time we shake on it, got it goon?"

"Fine, it's a bet. They are still getting to know each other and what just happened with you he wouldn't want to go straight away to anything with her, he has to consider the facts and the-"

Safe to say that they kissed. Once we are far enough I smile victoriously over to Cato.

"My boy, as Snow enjoys saying, you are an undeniable expert when it comes to weapons, fighting or ops but when it comes to the heart I'm the real expert here."

"You are also an expert in all of those things."

"Well, I know that, I just didn't want to brag about it."

I hear Cato chuckle and shake his head. I enjoy these moments when we are alone and somehow we just click. It's nice.

Alma POV

"They seem to have grown closer, that's very interesting, I could use that, that is if I am allowed."

I look sideways to the poor excuse of a man that seems to consider himself my superior knowing he will be pleased by my semblance of respect for him. Snow always did enjoy thinking of himself as more powerful than everyone else.

"You may proceed Alma but be warned I don't want anything interfering with her abilities."

"Of course Snow, I would never do anything to endanger our girl."

Push her to the edge maybe but that's just so that she can see that Division is her home, the one protecting her, helping her in the times of need. Maybe then we could go back to how we used to be, to the relationship we used to have.

"Very well, you are excused."

I say nothing as I leave and get back to my office. I sit down and pull up old footage of Katniss' early times in Division. Who would have known that this scared girl with a brave face would be our best.

I knew as soon as she was placed in my office she would be challenging but I wouldn't trade my time with her, even after what she did.

The little traitor is going to see who her real family is.
