Your P.O.V.

P.E. soon ended, with the substitute teacher walking out on the class halfway for "lack of proper behaviour". The whole class didn't seem to care though, and headed into our respective changing rooms as soon as we heard the bell ring.

I waved goodbye to Mello and Matt, knowing that they'll be out of their changing rooms first. I liked to take my time, but I knew that Mello and Matt had to rush since they had biology next. Their teacher for that class was quite the drama queen, giving out detentions to those unlucky souls who arrived even a minute late.

I checked my phone as I was getting changed. I wasn't expecting any new messages or missed calls, but it was a habit I picked up whenever I did remember to bring my phone with me into school. I wasn't one to text between classes to whoever was on my contact list, not that I knew many people's numbers. And I barely called anyone on my phone, because they always called me first for some reason.

But surprisingly, I had one new message. And it was from L!

To: [Name]-san

From: L

I know I shouldn't act on impulse, but I bought a small beach house today. I'm planning on turning it into a B&B, just in time for summer vacation. It's located on a popular tourist destination too, so I'm expecting a lot of customers. Of course, we have none right now making reservations, but that won't last for long. We'll need a few extra hands helping at running the place. So if you're willing, then that'd be just great. You'll receive payment for it as expected, and not to mention a free seaside holiday. That is all.

"…" I stopped changing for a second, staring at the text message blankly. There was a part of me that was in awe of L's unknown amount but obvious wealth, wondering how he could just buy a beach house on impulse. He said that it was located on a popular tourist destination too, so it had to be pretty expensive. Does Watari know about this? What will happen to Wammy's Café?

I lowered my phone, but not before checking the time on it. There was no doubt I was going to be late for my next class, so I finished getting dressed before following a group of chatting girls out the changing room. Just one more class until lunch, and then I can meet up with Mello and Matt in the cafeteria. Maybe they know something about L's plan about opening a B&B?

~.~

I will admit that out school's food wasn't half bad, but that didn't make the cafeteria any better to eat your lunch in. It was always crowded, and awfully loud. Older students walked around like they owned the place, and finding a table was never an easy task.

The skill to dodge food was a necessary to survive in the cafeteria, and unless you wanted to find yourself sitting by the smelly trash cans, you had to have a good connection with the people who always got the good tables. And those people weren't exactly the nicest.

When I spotted Mello and Matt, they were surrounded by a crowd of fangirls. I sighed, remembering how popular the two boys were with the females in the school. None of it was intentional, it just happened. I saw Mello and Matt waving desperately at me, and I couldn't help but laugh at their situation. After I was done, I marched my way over to them.

"Excuse me, excuse me!" I shouted, parting the crowd. "But you're cutting off their air supply!"

Wiggling his way awkwardly out of one of the girls' grip around his neck, Matt made a run for it before running back, grabbing Mello's hand and then sprinting off again. I stood, watching, with their fangirls before casting them an apologetic smile and then running after them. I looked back to see them glaring at me.

I eventually managed to catch up with them in the hallway. Matt's hands were on his knees, panting, while Mello was glaring at him.

"Well, that wasn't weird at all." Mello finally commented, still glaring. "Nothing like two guys running down the hallway holding hands."

I turned around, hiding a laugh. Matt looked up, "You should be thanking me instead, y'know! Fangirls are scary…"

"Whatever, Matt." Mello sighed. He spotted me grinning madly and asked, "And what're you laughing at, [Name]?"

I smiled, waving it off, "Nothing, nothing…"

We then headed to our usual spot for lunch, which was a giant oak tree that grew outside the school at the back. There was a bench underneath it, but we preferred to sit on the grass whenever it was a nice day. It had stopped raining, and even though the grass was still a little bit wet we sat down.

We talked about random topics for a while, like what colour socks we were wearing and about that one kid in our English class that drooled whenever he fell asleep. When Matt finally realized that we were teasing him, he threw bits of his food at us.

While Matt argued with Mello about which was better, Xbox or PS3, I remembered L's text message. I interrupted their little debate and told them, how L bought a beach house and was planning on turning it into a B&B, up and running by summer vacation. I explained how he needed workers to help him, and that he asked me if I wanted to volunteer. Even though I was willing to, I voiced that I was worried about the café and whether or not Watari knew about L's plans.

When I was done, Mello was the first to speak, "L should've told me too! I didn't get a text about nothing from him."

"That's sort of random though, don't you think?" Matt said. "Summer vacation's only three weeks away."

"I almost forgot about that!" I said, cringing at the idea of doing another summer exam soon. "But you're right. What about Watari? Does he even know about this? And the café! What will happen to it? They're not going to close it down, are they?"

"You're not going to loose your job, [Name]." Mello said. "I doubt that L would close down the café, especially when business is booming there."

~.~

School eventually ended that day with me, Mello and Matt rushing out of the building as soon as we could. Upon entering the café we quickly found ourselves being separated as we were pushed into the huge crowd of hungry customers. I was shoved and pushed into different directions as people around me tried to reach the counter to order or were racing each other to see who could grab an empty table first (If there were any left for that matter).

Out of the corner of my eye I spotted Misa sitting with her boyfriend, Light, in the corner of the room. He was lazily playing with his bowl of vanilla ice cream, looking pretty annoyed as Misa rambled on and on about whatever she was ranting about now. Misa was a regular customer here, but I barely saw Light around the place. I've talked to him a couple of times before, but only when Misa managed to drag him inside the café.

She said that for some unknown reason, Light hated going inside Wammy's Café. Misa was betting it was because he was secretly a claustrophobic when inside the usually overcrowded place but I doubt that was the reason.

While I was being dragged around to whatever direction the crowd was pushing me to, two strong hands clamped themselves on top of my shoulders. I looked up to the smiling face of Watari.

"You look lost, [Name]-san." He chuckled. "Come, L is waiting for you."

Watari pushed through the crowd with ease, leading me towards L's office at the back of the building. I managed to catch a glimpse of whoever was working the counter, and I was surprised to find Near handling the huge, hungry crowd of customers.

The room was dark but beautiful, dramatically lit that made it look like it belonged to an important CEO of a booming company rather than a local café owner. On the right was a huge bookshelf built into the wall. Apart from the expected, like books and heavy documents stacked on top of each other, it was also filled with random knick knacks and pictures of L, Watari, Mello, Matt and Near.

blinked when I saw a picture of me. I was standing by myself, smiling goofily at the camera while holding a bunch of teddy bears. There was a ferris wheel behind me, brightly lit against the night sky. I remembered that event from last summer, when L and Watari had brought me, Mello, Matt and Near to a carnival. L had won me several teddy bears that night too.

Facing the bookshelf on the opposite side of the room was a low drawer, decorated with even more books and heavy documents. A chair took up space in the corner of the room beside the door. Matt was sitting on it, Mello standing beside him. L was sitting behind the glass desk in the middle of the room on a black leather chair. As usual his knees were propped up against his chest as he sat.

"[Name]." L greeted. "I can see that you've finally managed to get out of that crowd outside."

I grinned, "All thanks to Watari!"

"Anyway," Mello butted in, "What's the deal with the B&B, L?"

L sighed, "Is that the reason why you three are all here?"

Apart from Watari, everyone else in the room nodded.

"And here I was thinking you three were popping in to say hello." L said. "There's no need to panic though, I'm merely opening a B&B to extend Wammy's Café's business."

"You're going to open another café?" Matt asked.

"Sort of." L said. "The beach house I bought is currently going under construction to turn it into a more suitable place to open a B&B in. The back of the house connects to the beach on which it was built on, so I decided to add an extension in the house. That extension is going to be the new Wammy's Café."

"So you're going to close down this Wammy's Café?" I spluttered.

L shook his head, "I didn't say that, [Name]-san. I remember saying that I'm merely opening a B&B to extend Wammy's Café's business. Although me and Watari won't be here during the upcoming summer vacation, I will assure you that this café will continue running smoothly. I will have people working here while we're away, sending daily reports of the café's business. But we'll be back once the B&B can manage without our supervision."

"You can continue working here if you'd like." Watari said, and I turned to face him. "But if you'd also like, you can come with us and work in the B&B for a little while. It's going to be slow at first, but soon business will be flourishing there."

"Who's 'us'?" Mello questioned.

"Apart from me and Watari," L began, before giving Mello a small smile, "You and Near of course!"

"What? No way!"

"Although you're usually not forced to work against your will, you're expected to help out this time." L said sternly. "Yes, you'll basically be working during your time off school but you'll only be doing small chores around the house. After that you're free to enjoy your seaside vacation. And yes, you'll also be paid for helping out."

"…So, can I come too?" Matt asked suddenly. Mello snorted, "Matt, you hate going outside. We're talking about working in a beach here. You'll probably be working outside for most of the time, y'know, with the sun constantly burning against your back?"

"I know that…" Matt said, sighing at the end. I saw his eyes quickly turn to me before going back to look up at Mello, "But…Y'know, we're getting paid for it and everything so…Why not? My parents have been bugging me to get a job for the summer and…Yeah."

I had a feeling that that wasn't the reason why Matt wanted to work too. His parents were always telling him to go and get a job instead of staying inside and playing videogames all day. Maybe it was because Mello was being forced to go too? They were inseparable after all.

"You're welcome to work with us, Matt." Watari said, breaking a smile at the red-headed boy. "We're going to need all the help we're going to get. What about you, [Name]-san?"

I thought about it. I was getting paid to work in a B&B/café by the beach. It didn't sound bad in my head, and from what I remember from my one-time trip to the beach it was a lot of fun. Not to mention I was getting a free seaside vacation. After a while, I nodded my head at Watari.

"Excellent!" He said. "I'll be contacting Matt's parents and your mother tonight, for permission purposes. Hopefully they'll all agree. We'll explain more tomorrow but in the mean time please excuse us."

We all waved goodbye to L before Watari ushered us out of the door.

"Well, that was interesting." Matt commented. "Hey, let's grab some ice cream before we go, Mello!"

~.~

Eating ice cream outside while people watching, that was our usual routine whenever it was us three walking home together from school. But since I was working today I couldn't join them outside. Mello and Matt quickly took a seat by the counter as soon as it was empty. The café had calm down a bit but it was still pretty crowded. I hurriedly placed on my apron before joining Near by the cash register. The apron was clean colour of white, with the café's logo on the front.

I walked up to the white haired boy and lightly tapped him on the shoulder.

"I'll take it from here, thanks." I said. Near simply nodded his head before taking off his apron and stalking out through the door. I heard Mello snort as soon as he was gone. I rolled my eyes at Mello before taking the order of the next customer in front of me. Near didn't work at the café but I was guessing that either L or Watari asked him to cover for me while we talked in L's office.

Once I was done dealing with the customers' orders, I scooped up a cone of chocolate and vanilla ice cream for Mello and Matt. When I handed it to them they had already started their people watching and were commenting on a nearby girl's hair.

"It looks a bit greasy, don't you think?" Mello snickered. Upon closer inspection I recognized the girl from one of my classes.

"That's Andrea from my art class." I said, frowning at Mello. "She's actually very nice.

"I guess even people like Mello have standards." Matt laughed. This earned him a smack across the back of the head by the blonde chocolate=addict.

"Of course I have standards, idiot." Mello huffed, licking his ice cream.

"So, what type of girls do you like?" I casually asked, licking a bit off his ice cream. Chocolate was my favourite and since Mello always ordered it I didn't get one for myself. Instead I stole bits off his, which irritated the blonde. But if I had looked up while I was licking off a bit of the sweet, cold chocolate treat; I would've seen the pink hue that was spreading across Mello's cheeks.

When I was finished he quickly stood up. His cheeks were burning a deep shade of red and he lamely cleared his throat before, "Matt, we're leaving."

The videogame addict looked up, alarmed, "What, why?"

"Matt, we're leaving." Mello repeated. "Now."

Not waiting for a reply from his red headed friend, the king of constant PMS hurried out the door. Matt gave me an apologetic look before paying for his and Mello's ice cream.

"Sorry, [Name]." He said. "Y'know how Mello's like with his random mood swings."

Waving goodbye he followed Mello out the door, leaving me standing there confused about what just happened.

I would like to thank everyone for all the comments and feedback I've been getting on this story!

I'm excited to know what everyone's thoughts are about on this chapter, so be sure to leave a comment saying exactly so! So, which of the Wammy boys are you hoping to fall for you? Haha, or which of the Wammy boys are you hoping your character would end up with?

Oh, and I'd like to remind everyone that the characters here will be bound to be OOC since this story is based on a world where Light never found the Death Note and everyone lived completely normal lives. I'll try to keep the characters as close to their real personalities though!

(I'll also be gone for a while, so I don't know when I'll be able to post the next chapter. Until then, any ideas you may have for this story are welcome!)
