She placed her feet in the chilly lake, in an attempt to rinse off the sand that had attached itself to her feet. The cold water sent shivers up her spine and she let out a heavy sigh. Her foggy forest eyes traveled smoothly from her feet to the most captivating sunset. For a minute, she forgot all her worries and kept looking at how softly the sun set behind the trees. The leaves brushed against each other, almost like they were dancing. She closed her eyes and focused on the sound. The warmth from the sun hugged her skin and made the brunette let out a smile. For a brief second, a slight breeze blew in their direction. She opened her eyes and once again looked down at her sandy feet. Her head turned around to face the person beside her. "Come with me to the States" Lexa put the palm of her shaking hand on the back of the woman she loved. The motion of her thumb going in circles. It went silent for a moment. Maybe longer in her mind than in reality.

"Lexa ..."

Her name. The way Costia said it made a lump grow in her throat. Every second it grew bigger and it was more difficult to hold it in. Her sight went foggy. "Why can´t you leave with me? You don´t have to stay here Costia. We can start a whole new life, just you and me" Lexa usually didn´t beg for anyone to love her. Costia met Lexa´s eyes. She didn´t say anything for a few seconds, but Lexa could see she gathered her breath. "They said ... they would cut my head off-"

"Because you´re with me? Because you´re gay?" Lexa couldn´t believe the words her parents had told Costia. How could they intimidate their daughter this way? Her head was raging. Fists clenched. "You´re just going to pretend to be straight now? Pretend you love someone you don`t?" Lexa was furious. Confused as to why Costia couldn´t just come with her. She knew they would be alright. Lexa would make sure of it.

For generations, her ancestor has been living like royalty. Money was never an issue. After her parents tragically passed away, Lexa and Anya lived in foster homes till they turned 18. That´s when they had the right to claim their inheritance. Both young and clueless, didn´t know what they desired to do with the money. They determined it was too early to set foot in the family business, and agreed to travel around the world. Find themselves. Her last destination in Greece, Lexa met her. Costia. Her first love.

Nearly a decade later had passed, yet the States never felt like home to Lexa. Hell, her house didn´t even feel like a home. Anya had taken over the family business and still runs it to this day. Lexa never felt the need to carry on the legacy. She wanted to do something she was passionate about. To help people. Lexa had spent these last years studying to become what she meant would fulfill her life in a way. After years of completing her bachelor´s and master´s degrees, in addition to her clinical training, she was finally a licensed professional therapist.

Anya had invested in the building Lexa worked in, and the hospital beside their clinic. Her sister had invested in multiple establishments. You could say the name Woods was all over the town. Anya Woods was a name many knew, Lexa would often get mistaken to be her sister because they share the last name.

"Have you gotten any updates on Indra? I didn´t have time to visit her yesterday" Lexa opened the fridge and quickly grabbed her iced tea. Anya walked up to her sister and snapped the drink from her hands before she had a chance to unscrew the lid. "Hey! I was gonna drink that" Lexa crossed her arms and frowned like a child. "I saw her yesterday. Nothing had changed" Anya tasted the bitter tea her sister had made and placed the bottle on the counter with a disgusted face.

"It´s green tea" Lexa added and shrugged her shoulders innocently.

"It´s disgusting Lex". Anya grasped a water bottle from the fridge. "I owe her a visit. The driver is outside, we leave in 5 minutes" Lexa chugged the last of her green tea. Indra had been on a ventilator for 3 days. Respiratory failure. The thing about ventilators is that the person could be conscious but they were unable to vocalize because of the breathing tube.

As they arrived at the hospital, Lexa stopped by the cafeteria to grab a coffee to keep herself sharp. Anya had memorized the hospital's labyrinth hall and led the way. Unexpectedly behind them, the sound of rushing footsteps became more audible. They raced past the sisters and in the direction of Indra´s room. Anya was quick to her feet. An alarming feeling in her chest. Anya vanished around the corner. "fuck" Lexa whispered under her breath and decided to break out into a sprint. Before she got to turn around the corner, she collided with another person. Both fell to the floor. Her coffee had spilled all over the doctor "Fuck, sorry ma´am" Lexa apologized and reached her sweaty hand for the blonde to hold on to. The blond woman rejected her hand. "What the fuck? Don´t you know you´re not supposed to run in a hospital? You could´ve crashed into a patient. And Ma´am? I´m not that old" the blonde hissed as she fixated on her name tag.

"Lexa!" Anya called for her. The blonde rolled her eyes and nudged Lexa´s shoulders as she walked past her. The brunette hurried to her sister that was outside of the room, as well as two others. Lexa´s friend Lincoln held around his girlfriend that had abnormally empty blank eyes. She observed the blonde, who had her scrubs soaked in coffee, make her way over to Octavia. The blonde wrapped her arms around her trembling friend. "I´m not afraid. I´m not afraid" Octavia kept repeatedly whispering under her breath. The doctor peeked through the door, and from what she could see, Indra had coughed up blood and she was drowning. A new surgery was needed. The other doctors cleared the hall and rushed Indra to the operating room. Octavia collapsed to the floor. Blondie tightened her grip around her friend. "Lincoln, call Bellamy now" She commanded. She shot a look over at Lexa and Anya, who didn´t quite understand what they were doing standing there. Lincoln was talking to them, so they must´ve been friends of his.

"You should go home and rest honey. And why are your scrubs dirty? ... you look tired" Abby placed her hand on Clarke´s cheeks. "Some idiot ran into me and spilled hot coffee. I´m so drained, I can´t even drive home. I think I´ll just sleep in the on-call room" Clarke handed some documents over to one of the nurses. Double-checked her assignments. "Indra got out of surgery, she´s stable for now. Why don´t you rest here for a little bit and I´ll take you home" Her mother led Clarke to one of the empty beds that were standing ready in the hall. Clarke climbed up on it and didn´t hesitate to lie down. 72 straight hours in the hospital, running on very little sleep. She fell asleep as soon as her head hit the compact bed.

Clarke had completed all her residency training a few months ago, which meant she was now officially an attending. A neurosurgeon who was committed to her work, just like her mother. She picked this specialty because of her interest in how the brain functions. Neurosurgeons are involved in preventing, diagnosing, and treating disorders of the brain, spine, and nerves. Her mother was the chief of surgery, and that woman was a great leader. Clarke got that quality from her mom as well. Clarke was responsible for a group of interns and residents, and the amount of respect she received from them shows she was likewise born to be a leader. Clarke sensed an individual over her head. She let out a grunt. Go away, let me sleep.

"Did I injure you? Ma´am?" an unknown voice caught her ear. Clarke opened her eyes and identified the face she saw earlier. Still burnt out from operating day and night, running from little to no sleep. Clarke groaned as she sat up on the bed that was no longer comfortable. A little irritated at the woman who had interrupted her sleep. Not to mention she called her ma´am again. "No, I just haven´t had an opportunity to rest". Clarke rushed away from the brunette, a little annoyed. "And don´t call me ma´am. We´re virtually the same age," Clarke said without even turning her head around.

The comment and the other woman's body language seemed snarky and rude. It was a satisfactory thought that the brunette wouldn´t be running into her again. Or so she thought. She observed the blonde walking carelessly away from her to a group of people that had gathered around each other. One of them was Lincoln, along with his girlfriend. Lincoln was a close friend of Lexa´s since childhood. She noticed Anya´s head popping from the crowd. Her sister´s hands reached out for the blonde doctor to shake. They were talking about something but Lexa couldn´t overhear what they said. Suddenly everyone discreetly turned their head to face Lexa. They were chuckling about something. Concerning her?

Lincoln felt bad Lexa stood all alone, all uncomfortable, and decided to thank her for coming. "I don´t think that doctor, the blonde one, likes me" The brunette couldn´t get her eyes off the blond. Lincoln let out a short chuckle. "That´s Clarke. It´s one of Octavia´s closest friends."

"I called her Ma´am"

Lincoln smacked his face in disbelief. "Lexa you always do this"

"Twice actually. I also spilled hot coffee on her, and she seems pissed. Delighted we won´t be seeing each other again. It´s excessively embarrassing" Lexa crossed her arms and leaned against the brick wall. Pressing her back on the hard surface.

"She does spend a lot of time with Octavia. I spend a lot of time with Octavia. And if you and I were to hang out, you would most likely run into Clarke" Lincoln smirked. "You know, all love stories start like this" her friend hinted. "Oh shut the fuck up Linc" She hit her friend on the arm. "Wipe that smirk off your face and go grab me a new coffee" Lexa slid her body down to a sitting position on the floor. Discreetly looking over at that friend group. Observing the blonde smiling and laughing. Her hair was tied up in a bun. Her scrubs were now stained because of Lexa. Her hand placement on Octavia showed she cared. Clarke felt Lexa´s eyes on her and they locked eyes for a brief second. Lexa looked down at her boots. Almost like she was in high school again. She was too old to be this nerve-wracking and awkward. Could this truly be a love story to be continued?
