"So Hotaru, why did you want to bring that girl to your lab?" asked the sweet Umenomiya Anna. She now had her pink hair 2 inches past the shoulder in adorable curls, and she wears a hot pink headband on it. She wears light make-up that consists of dark pink eye shadow and clear lip gloss. Alice: Cooking.
"That girl's name is Sakura Mikan, and why? I'm not telling you." Hotaru said as she and the rest of her friends waited for Mikan to come out of the class.
"You must really like her since you invited her personally to your lab." Nonoko stated. Ogasawara Nonoko had blue hair that was 2 inches past the shoulders, like Anna's, but hers was completely straight. She also wore a light blue headband. Like Anna, she wore light blue eye shadow and clear lip gloss. Alice: Chemistry
"I do not like her. I'm only interested in her." Hotaru glared at Nonoko.
"She's thinking the complete opposite." Koko had his goofy smile on. Yume Kokoro had slightly spiky dark straw blond hair. Alice: Mind-Reading.
Baka! Baka! Baka!
"How many times do I have to tell you. Do not read my mind!" Hotaru shot Koko with one of her early inventions, known as the famous 'Baka Gun', designed to hit idiots. For example: Koko.
"You okay, Koko? Hotaru, you know we're right. Why else would you invite Mikan-chan?" Yuu said helping the poor bruised Koko up.
"Are you all deaf? I invited her because-" Hotaru said.
"Anno...Did I keep you waiting long?" Mikan came out of the classroom and walked up to Hotaru and the rest. She was kind of (extremely) nervous. Who wouldn't be?
"Baka, what took you so long?" Hotaru said pretending like she didn't say anything about her.
"I had to talk to with Jinno-sensei. He wanted to see me after class. And I am not a baka!" Mikan said casually. Actually, Mikan was on the phone with Serio.
"Didn't Jinno-sensei come out of the class after us?" Nonoko said. She didn't think Mikan was lying since she looked too innocent to lie, but she did find something suspicious.
"He did, but came back. He needed to go see Narumi-sensei quickly." Mikan answered. 'That was a close one.' Mikan knew Koko would try to read her mind so she had her Nullification ready.
"Hey! How did you do that?" Koko said once he couldn't read Mikan's mind.
"'Do what', Koko?" Yuu asked his friend. Everyone else looked from Koko to Mikan and to Koko again.
"I couldn't read her mind!" Koko said as if it were the end of the world.
"Oh! That's because of my Alice! Since I always get scared at sudden attacks, I have my Alice on all day." Mikan said laughing nervously.
"Eh!? What is your Alice, Mikan-chan?" Anna said getting excited.
"Nullification."
"Alright, enough talking. Can we go now?" Hotaru said impatiently.
"Hai!" everyone said, but Mikan.
'I don't get it. What do they want from me? I should read their minds, but it would be too rude to do so.' Mikan thought.
"Are you coming or not?" Hotaru said from the end of the hall. Mikan spaced out for too long.
"Ah, hai!" Mikan smiled cheerfully. 'Whatever it is, I still hope we can become friends in the mean time!'
Mikan followed everyone to Hotaru's lab. Luckily for her, everyone from the school was either in their rooms or at Central Town. Hopefully everyone from her class thought that Hotaru just wanted something from her. If they found out she was hanging around them it would cause a commotion. Not to mention her 'invisible' life would be over. Yet, Mikan still wanted to be friends with them, despite the fact that she would somehow also become popular.
"So, Mikan, why are you always so quiet?" Nonoko asked breaking the silence.
"Yeah, you're so quiet no one even notices you're alive!" Koko said like it was a comment.
"Koko!" Anna hit him on the head. "Don't be so rude! Don't mind him Mikan!" Anna smiled to Mikan while she glared at Koko. Only Anna acts this way to Koko. To everyone else she's the adorable sugary angel, Anna.
"Don't worry about it! I'm used to people saying that!" Mikan sweat dropped as Anna was teaching Koko about manners. "Well, I'm quiet because I prefer not to be the center of attention."
"Eh!? But everyone LOVES to be popular!" Nonoko said.
"Not everyone..." Hotaru mumbled.
"I just don't like it when people give me special attention and all that. I'm more of a loner." Mikan said a little sadly.
"Oh, uh, um...Do you have any parents, Mikan-chan?" Yuu asked getting rid of the sad silence. Apparently Mikan's sadness affected them too.
"Yeah, but I never met them." Mikan said, and the answer only brought more awkwardness. Even Hotaru felt awkward.
"Well, you'll meet them someday. We're here." Hotaru assured Mikan, which surprised all her friends.
Hotaru took out her key and unlocked her lab. She lead everyone to her personal lab where only friends and she can enter. When she opened the door it was slightly messy and filled with technology and etc. Machine parts, robots, chips, and computers filled the room. The only empty space was at the right hand corner of the room. There there were 2 black couches facing each other, and a dark wood coffee table separating them in between.
Hotaru told everyone to sit down comfortably and let Mikan sit next to her. Anna was on Mikan's left with Nonoko on her left. Koko and Yuu sat on the opposite couch. Yuu sat like a gentleman, while Koko put his elbows on top of the couch so his arms hanged, and had his legs wide open like a bad guy would do. Hotaru's robot served everyone black tea at Hotaru's command.
"Um...Ah, thank you very much for inviting me, but...Why am I here?" asked Mikan.
"Because we're going to help you find your parents." Hotaru sipped her black tea calmly.
"We are!?" everyone else, except Mikan, spit there tea out, while Nonoko and Anna chocked on it.
"Eh, but why!?" Mikan said with wide chocolate brown eyes.
"I think everyone should know their parents at least. Besides, you're lonely...right?" when Hotaru said the last part her voice softened. That's when Yuu and everyone else understood why Hotaru wanted to help Mikan out. Hotaru had been through something similar until she met Yuu and everyone else.
"W-What are you t-talking a-about? I-I'm not..." Mikan couldn't help it anymore. Ever since she found out about her parents she was fine since she had grandpa, but now... She really was lonely. Mikan cried for the first time in years.
"It's okay, Mikan-chan! We're here for you!" Anna smiled sweetly stroking her hair softly while her face was buried in Hotaru's chest.
"Yeah, we'll help you find your parents!" Koko stood up quickly so it resulted him in burning himself with the black tea. "OW!"
"M-Minna...Arigatou!" Mikan still had tears in her eyes. Mikan smiled her most cheerful smile.
"K-Kawaii..." both Koko and Yuu said. Since Mikan began to cry she took off her glasses, which made Mikan look a lot different.
"Say, Mikan, have you ever thought of a make over?" Nonoko looked at her with a glint in her eyes.
"N-No." Mikan said not liking the evil look on her face. Nonoko looked at Anna with the glint and they both looked at her with the very same glint. "W-What are you up to?" Mikan narrowed her eyes at them.
"Meet us tomorrow after class, okay!" Anna said back to her angel self.
"Okay!" Mikan smiled once they turned back to normal. "Neh, what time is it?"
"5 PM. Why?" Hotaru asked looking at her silver watch.
"Kuso! I have to go!" Mikan said taking her black bag and ran towards the door out of Hotaru's private lab.
"What for?" Koko asked.
"Something important!" Mikan said and left.
Mikan ran back to her 2 star room. Mikan had to quickly finish her homework, then she had to get ready and pick out her Control Devices. She wouldn't have to hurry if she didn't have to put on so many Control Devices, plus she was horrible at math. If she doesn't get at least 2/3 of it right then Mikan might fail math! Once Mikan finished her homework it was already 8:36 PM.
"2 hours and 24 minutes left." Mikan sighed. Mikan was bad at math, but was good at time.
Mikan stood up and went to her closet and pushed aside the clothes on the hangers. At the bottom of the closet, on the floor, sat a medium sized chest. It was a pure white color with silver and gold edges. Mikan crouched down and put the orange crystal lock in her right hand. With her left hand she pulled out a white crystal key from the inside of her uniform. She slowly moved the key to the lock. She inserted it and turned it swiftly to the left. The lock opened with a loud snap! and Mikan opened the white chest.
Inside lay many precious things to Mikan, but on the very top lay a certain mask. Mikan picked it up and underneath the mask lay her disguise and Control Devices, along with her extra Alice stones she stole. Mikan let her two low pony tails from there black bands and let her brown hair flow down to her waist. She took off her glasses and placed the mask in front of her face. Mikan faced the full length mirror in her room.
"My partner better be good." Mikan said in a monotone/serious voice. If anyone heard this voice, they would have never suspected the innocent Mikan to be behind the white cat mask.
Mikan quickly put on her disguise (refer back to Chapter One). Now Mikan had to choose which Devices to put on. This was going to take at least an hour for Mikan to put on and it was already 9:55. Mikan's Stealing Alice is stable and everything, but it's to make sure she doesn't get more power suddenly. Also, it's to make sure she doesn't get hurt too much since her Alice is the Unlimited Type, but so far, Mikan has been feeling fine.
Mikan looked through the chest filled with rings, earrings, necklaces, etc. For tonight she put on a silver cross with an orange droplet in the middle as the necklace. She put on a pair of silver crosses on each ear with two orange droplets following it upwards. Next, Mikan put on a wide silver bracelet with a cross engraved on it being wrapped by rose vines, on both wrists. Last but not least, her infamous mask.
"10:55. Better hurry." Mikan said. (A/N: Starting from now, imagine Mikan's voice serious and monotone.)
'Shiro Neko' jumped out of her window from her bedroom, which was on the 3rd floor. She landed perfectly on her two feet without even bending her knees. (ex. Tokyo Mew Mew when Ichigo fell in the 1st episode) Mikan hurried to the Northern Woods where Serio waited for her with her new partner.
"You're late, Neko-chan." Serio uncrossed his arms and stepped forward towards Mikan.
"Gomen, homework slowed me down." Mikan apologized.
"I want you to meet your new partner." Serio stepped to the right and walked forward a male. "Of course you probably know him so you'll know his identity. If you want you could tell him-"
"No, my identity will be withheld." Mikan answered quickly. "But Serio-sensei, why does my partner need to be a boy?"
"Tch, got a problem little girl?" Hyuuga Natsume stood next to Serio wearing a black cat mask, and the Middle School Devision uniform incorrectly (ex. how Tsubasa wears his uniform).
"Do not anger me unless you want to die a slow painful death, Hyuuga." Mikan wasn't going to be polite to him with since she is now pretending to be the 'Shiro Neko'. Plus, they were the same age! How could he call her a little girl?!
"Yeah, like you could do that." Natsume said sarcastically. All of a sudden he couldn't breathe. "W-What...the h-hell?"
"Neko-chan, please be nice to him, although he doesn't have any manners." Serio gave Natsume a look that told him to be careful.
"...Whatever." Mikan said after she let the air flow to Natsume's lungs again. "What's the mission? I don't have all day."
"Steal the CD of secret military weapons in the US. The exact area is Washington D.C., but you won't be going until after classes tomorrow, since it's too early there to go now." (Japan-11:00PM US-7:00PM)
"We can go there now." Mikan said.
"It's too early." Natsume stated.
"As long as he doesn't interfere too much, we can get that CD within an hour or less." Mikan ignored Natsume.
"Fine, but if you're not back within an hour come back immediately. Understand?" Serio said. He knew his Shiro Neko could do it, but Natsume had a point. It was still early so he set up a curfew in case.
"Yes. Let's go." Mikan grabbed his elbow.
"Wait how are we gonna-?" Natsume's question was cut off when the surrounding area changed. "...Get there?..."
"Transportation Alice, how else?" Mikan said as if it were the most obvious in the world.
"Hey, what exactly is your Alice?" Natsume narrowed his eyes at her, but it wasn't visible.
"Not gonna answer." Mikan said as she walked towards the building in front of them.
"Why not? H-Hey! You'll be seen by the cameras!" Natsume already came to the conclusion that this mission was going to be a failure.
"I'm not going to be seen, and I have my reasons for not telling you. Now, be a good Kuro Neko, and stay there and try not to be seen." Mikan commanded.
"Where are you-?" Natsume stayed put like he was told. He saw that Mikan went straight through the wall. 'Does it have anything to do with the Alice Stones around her waist?'
Natsume glanced at his watch. What was taking her so long? It was already almost an hour. Natsume faced the walls again, but made sure that the security cameras wouldn't catch him on video. He was ready to go in there and figure out what was going on, until Mikan ran towards him coming through the wall.
"Let's go!" Mikan said before Natsume could ask what took her so long. She grabbed his elbow again and they were transported again. There was a loud thud! from Natsume who fell on his butt once Mikan let go of him.
"Serio-sensei, here. I better be getting double on my salary 'cause I barely made it through." Mikan said giving Serio a CD.
"You may leave now. I need to talk privately with my Kuro Neko-kun." Serio said waving a hand at her symbolizing that she was dismissed.
"Oyasumi." Mikan said and disappeared from thin air.
Serio walked over to Natsume who was still on the ground looking where Mikan disappeared from. Serio held out his hand to help him up. Natsume ignored his hand and got up himself dusting of the soil on his uniform.
"Did you help her?" Serio asked him with a serious face.
"She took full control of the mission." Natsume said still looking from where she disappeared. It kind of pissed him off how a girl could just command him to do something. The Hyuuga Natsume does not listen to people. Especially girls.
"Sigh So much for teamwork." Serio said a little sarcastically.
"What's her Alice and who is she?" Natsume said now paying attention to Serio.
"If she didn't tell you then I better not. Just so you know I also fear her, so don't get on her bad side." Serio said with a warning look and disappeared into the forest once again.
"Tch, stupid Persona." Natsume left towards the dorm taking off his black mask.
The next morning Mikan woke up really tired. Last night she came back to her room at 12:20. The mission she did was slightly more difficult than the others, but she pulled it of. Then she remembered who her partner was. Hyuuga Natsume. 'He's going to be really hard to babysit.' Mikan thought as she stretched her legs and arms.
Knock! Knock!
'Who the hell would knock on my door?' Mikan thought. She never had visitors before, even from teachers.
"Ohayou, Mikan-chan! Eh?! You're still not dressed?! You're going to be late!" it was Nonoko, Anna, and Hotaru who looked really grumpy, standing in front of her doorway.
"What are you doing here?" Mikan asked raising an eyebrow.
"We're here to pick you up. Why else would we bother to even stop at you're lame 2 star room?" Hotaru said.
"Wow, I feel so special." Mikan said sarcastically which made Hotaru widen her eyes. Hotaru had never in her life been talked to like that. "Now let me go to sleep." Mikan was about to shut the door when a foot stopped it from closing.
"You know it's already 8:30, Mikan-chan?" Koko blocked her with Yuu at his side.
"8-8:30? 8:30!? My fucking alarm didn't go off!!" Mikan yelled and she closed her door with a loud slam! and rushed to get her uniform on, do her hair, put on her glasses, and get out the door. The others sweat dropped, except Hotaru who just flinched, when Mikan swore. Who knew such an innocent cute looking girl like Mikan could swear that badly?
When Mikan came out she came out in 3 minutes exactly.
"That was fast." Nonoko said and like everyone had wide eyes. One question rang in each of their minds: How the hell did she did she do that!? Here's a clue: Speed.
"Thank you so much for waiting! Now what is it you guys want?" Mikan smiled cheerfully.
"Jeez, cut the damn crap. We're friends now, so can we just please go and eat?" Hotaru was in a bad mood. If you didn't know Nonoko and Anna dragged her out of her sleep, so she was very very cranky.
"What's with her?" Mikan asked once Hotaru walked away towards the cafeteria downstairs.
"We woke her up so now she's very cranky." they all sweat dropped except for Mikan who just had a blank expression.
Everyone walked together downstairs. Koko walked with Mikan since both were Double stars. If Koko only improved his grades he would have been a Triple Star by now. Anna and Nonoko were both Triple stars, while Hotaru and Yuu were Special.
When Mikan walked with Koko everyone had their attention on her. They kept asking themselves who she she was and what was she doing with Koko, and you know what I'm talking about. Mikan went to the 2 star table and waited for her food with Koko sitting next to her.
"Koko, who's the girl?" asked a guy who had really short that made him look bald. Mikan knew it was one of Koko's friends and Natsume's body guards, named Mochiage, but nicknamed Mochu.
"Yo, Mochu! This girl is my new toy!" Koko grinned widely while wrapping his arm around Mikan's shoulder so he leaned on her slightly.
"T-Toy!? Since when the hell was I your toy, Yume?" Mikan said deathly ignoring being polite. Once Mikan uses your last name it means serious trouble.
"Ehehehe! D-Did I say toy? I-I meant friend." Koko said taking off his hand around her shoulder.
"I've never seen you before." Mochu said narrowing his eyes to see if she wasn't a fan.
"I'm Sakura Mikan, pleased to meet you!" Mikan forcefully with a vain on her head. This was already about the third person who doesn't know they were in the same class.
"Oh! Now I remember you! You were the one who helped with the Latent Ability Class, right?" Mochu grinned.
"Eh!? That was you Mikan!?" Koko widened his eyes. He and Mochu were in the same class. Mikan was the girl who really helped a lot when the class was an entire mess and needed a lot of help. Only 4 students came to help them and Mikan was one of them.
"Oh, now you notice!" Mikan said sarcastically.
"Gomen, gomen. I'm an idiot! See I admit it!" Koko said. He loved to make this girl laugh, she was very fun to be with in his opinion. Koko was surprised he hadn't noticed this girl sooner, or he might have developed a crush on her before he met Anna. Mikan rolled her eyes playfully and ate her 2 star meal.
"You better hurry, or else we'll be late!" Mochu didn't know the girl very well, but if Koko was having fun playing with her, she must be a very unique person.
Classes started and Mikan's mind kept wandering to her new friends. She observed all of her friends and smiled to herself. She just met them and yet she already had some small good memories with them.
"SAKURA! Are my lessons that amusing!?" Jinno shouted. Unfortunately she was still very unlucky in math.
"G-Gomenasai!" Mikan stuttered. She sighed once Jinno went back to his lesson. She heard some snickering and quickly scanned the room. Both Hotaru and Koko were holding laughs. She glared at them both.
"SAKURA!!" Jinno yelled once again.
"Sumimasen!" Mikan said again. If she keeps this up she'll get detention and fail.
"Sakura, if you do not improve your grades than I'll fail you!" Jinno started to say seriously. "But I'll give you one more chance! If you do not improve I'll assign you a tutor. And if you still don't improve I'll fail you miserably!"
"H-Hai!" Mikan said a little more relieved. 'At least he'll give me one more chance!'
Once the bell rang for classes to end Mikan got her books into her black bag and prepared to leave with her new friends for the first time. What Mikan didn't know was that the girls were planning something. Mikan is smart, although not in math, she is very much dense.
"Mikan-chan, we're going to Central Town! Come with us!" Anna asked.
"But it's only Tuesday, and we have a lot of work. Well, actually I have a lot of work." Mikan sighed. Since she didn't pay attention very much in math, Jinno gave her extra work.
"C'mon! It'll be fun! And Sumire is coming with us!" Nonoko tried to persuade her.
"Sumire? You mean Permy?" Mikan titled her head.
"Who are calling Permy!?" yelled Sumire who joined them. Sumire did not change much when she grew up. The only thing that changed is her height and that she developed.
"Are you coming, or what?" Hotaru joined them.
"I guess it couldn't hurt." Mikan shrugged.
"The off we go to Central Town!" Anna, Nonoko and Sumire said together.
Anna and Nonoko pretty much dragged Mikan to the bus towards Central Town. Mikan was really curious as to where they were exactly going. They were in such a rush that she stumbled about 4 times already. Even Sumire and Hotaru could barely keep up if they hadn't used one of her inventions.
Once they got of the bus they immediately took Mikan to...
"Hair Solon? Okay, I give up. What are you guys up to?" Mikan narrowed her eyes at all 4 of them.
"We're going to give you..." Nonoko started.
"A make-over!" Anna ended it. Mikan took a while to register what their intentions were.
"No! No way am I getting a make-over! I'm like the way I am now!" Mikan put her hands in front of her to create some space between her and them.
"You don't have a choice Mikan." Hotaru said with her arms crossed.
"Now come one you big idiot!" Sumire grabbed her hand and dragged her into hell.
Once they got out of the salon they went shopping for contacts only to find out Mikan's eye sight got better, so she doesn't need glasses. Next they dragged her to a store and let her choose the outfits. They made a deal that Mikan would let them do anything to her, except pick her clothes out. Once they finished all that they went to the restrooms and put make-up on Mikan.
Koko and Yuu were told to come to Central town so they waited for their friends.
"Hello, Koko, Yuu! What are you guys up to?" asked one of their friends, Ruka, with his angry best friend Natsume. By the looks of it he was also dragged to Central Town.
"We're waiting for the girls. They said they had a surprise or something." Koko said scratching his head.
"Eh? Hotaru said something like that too." Ruka said.
"Tch, you only came 'cause you thought it was only going to be you and her." Natsume teased.
"I did not! I thought she was going to sell those again." Ruka blushed lightly.
"You guys! We're here!" Sumire called out to them.
"Where's Mikan-chan?" asked Yuu once he didn't see Mikan.
"You'll see." Sumire said. She walked and told them to follow her. When they stopped she stepped to the side. "Presenting the adorable new Sakura Mikan!"
The other girls got out of the way only to present a very adorable girl. She had her hair cut a bit before her waist hanging loosely around her. They were a little curly at the tips. She wore a white T-shirt with a baby pink hoody with a the zipper up half way. Then she wore a jean skirt that went a little past mid-thigh, with knee high flat black boots. The only make-up she wore was clear gloss on her lips. Her jewelry consisted of medium sized sliver hoops, her favorite rings on her thumb and index finer on her left hand, and a silver star necklace.
"Um...W-Who is this?" asked Ruka lightly blushing. Although he actually likes Hotaru this girl was like a doll.
"S-Sakura Mikan." Mikan wasn't smiling. She had a nervous frown and her head to the left avoiding everyone's stares, even from strangers.
"MIKAN!?" both Yuu and Koko yelled. They could not believe the simple Sakura Mikan they met was the cute girl right in front of them.
"Jeez, didn't she just say her name was Mikan?" Hotaru said irritated that they kept repeating the question.
"Hey, Natsume, she's pretty cute, huh?" Ruka nudged Natsume in the ribs since he was still staring at the girl in front of him.
"Not really." Natsume said still staring at her.
"Why don't we eat together? Neh, Natsume-kun?" Sumire clinged to Natsume.
"Hn." Natsume finally looked away from Mikan who turned back to look at them with a light blush on her face.
"Fine." Mikan answered she began to walk only to trip on a rock. "Itai!" Mikan fell on the ground on her knees.
"You okay, Mikan-chan?" Yuu pulled her up.
"Yeah I'm fine." Mikan answered. She randomly looked at Natsume who had a smirk on his face. "What are you smirking at?" Mikan narrowed her eyes at him.
"Nothing...Polka-dots." His smirk became wider at her expression. First she had a blank stare then a fuming red face of anger and embarrassment.
"PERVERT!" Mikan yelled at him which surprised everyone. Sakura Mikan was going to be dead soon.
"Shut up, you idiot!" Natsume tried to burn her but failed miserably. His face changed into complete confusion.
"Good luck trying to burn me, Hyuuga-san." Mikan stuck her tongue out while she pulled the lower part of her eye.
"Tch, so your Alice is Nullification, huh?" Natsume remembered when the girl first came. "Stop calling me Hyuuga, it's only Natsume."
"Can we go now?" Hotaru impatiently said.
"Hai!" Mikan smiled cheerfully and jogged up to her new friends.
"Wow, you're really interested in her Natsume." Ruka smiled as Hotaru and Mikan began to talk about something.
"Shut up." Natsume said and left.
