Title: Lieutenant Christopher "Hammer" Scott, Part 1
This is the fifth chapter of the story. I had to bring in someone from Steve's other world
Thanks again to my beta, Jerseybelle, for all her help
Lieutenant Christopher "Hammer" Scott was a Navy SEAL, and a pretty good one. He was the oldest of seven children, always the calm one. His mother loved him because he could always take care of one of his sister's nervous crises with an ease that neither she nor his father possessed.
When he found his calling in the Navy and later in the SEALs, his father had been more proud than when he chased away his sister's intended boyfriend. His dad never got to see him become a SEAL because he passed away when he was just starting SEAL training. He finished his training and the pain of his father's death passed because he knew how much his father had loved him.
The first time he met Steven McGarrett he was impressed. McGarrett was two inches taller than him and had a presence that couldn't be denied. He was swimming at the time and you could have sworn that he was born in the water. He was first in his class and that day, Chris understood that this was what he wanted in a friend
When he first talked to Steven he understood that something wasn't right. His new friend carried a lot of pain and it took him a lot of time to finally gather his entire story. Steven McGarrett had lost his family; his mom's death had shattered his family and only his desire to protect and serve his country got him through his days.
Hammer was straight; he didn't have anything against gay people because love was love, but he loved women, yet he was man enough to appreciate the beauty of his new friend's blue-grey eyes. But with that beauty came a profound sadness.
The years passed and they became "Smooth dog and Hammer". He didn't feel bad for being second, he was just proud to be serving with his friend. Steven McGarrett was the best; he had an intelligence, focus and drive on the job that was impossible to match so when Steve offered him the chance to be his second in command, he didn't have to think twice, and he never doubted his decision.)
They spent years on the job and Steve was always there when he needed him. He was there when he and Allie were married and later when the witch cheated on him with another officer. When he met Susan, Steve helped him plan a quick wedding in Hawaii, before they were deployed again, and when Bella was born Steve spent sixteen hours on a plane just to keep him from panicking to badly..
When Hammer heard that John McGarrett was killed he knew his friend wouldn't be coming back. He got a letter from his friend which said that he was heading up the Governor's task force. He took pity on the person he took as a partner, because he knew his friend, and "by the book" wasn't something that a SEAL, or Steven McGarrett, knew how to do.
I was away for my assignments a lot but Suze sent me news about my friend and through Catherine. I heard about his relationship with his partner on the task force. Rollins had said that the way they acted around each other was endearing and sickly sweet, and that they were clearly in love. Yeah, Smooth, if you're in love all I would have to do is look into your eyes to know the truth. If you knew him, you knew his eyes tell you more than his words ever could and I think that he's scared. I knew about him being bi, never had a problem with it; Steve had proved himself by being my best friend, so who he chooses to date or sleep with doesn't really concern me.
When Joe told me that Steve was in prison, I wanted to see him but I was going on another assignment and Joe promised me that he would help him.
It took time but they got him out. I bleed for the time he had to spend locked in a cage like he was a wild animal, but Joe promised me that he was getting better.
A few months ago we got an assignment and the General told us that he was bringing the whole team in because it was highly classified. I thought Steve would refuse, I thought that he would stay with his Ohana, but I was wrong; my friend, or what was left of him, came with us.
He was in pieces, broken, something was seriously wrong. His blue-grey eyes were almost white, devoid of emotion; someone had broken my friend. His comrades could tell, too, and that enraged them; they weren't happy that someone had broken their leader
Within days, Steve became the shadow of the man we knew. He was still as dedicated and focused to the mission as always but he lacked the heart.
I was stupid and careless and got hurt, so Steve had to send me back home, I had to leave my friends before the mission was completed. As they were preparing to transport me, Steve came to me and gave me a letter.
"You go to my home, you hear me, and find Gracie and give her this; you give this to her. You make sure my Ohana is safe."
"OK, Smooth, you take care."
"You make sure my Ohana is safe," he said again and looked into my eyes and I understood.
"I will make sure he's fine," I whispered. I was going home and I had a mission.
Susan and my Bella were waiting for me. My surgery went fine and I spent two weeks in the Naval Hospital and then left my own family and went to find my best friend's Ohana.
At first they didn't see me walk into the yard. I didn't like what I saw. They were trying, and I mean trying, to look happy but they looked more like they were at a funeral than a birthday party when they saw me standing there watching them.
I could see the blond one looking like he might fall and the two Hawaiian,s paled. The little girl knows who I am, I'm sure, but they ushered her inside, no doubt to spare her hearing bad news. I didn't stop to think what it would look like if I showed up here wearing my uniform.
I greeted them cordially because I knew that if I didn't somehow Steve would find out and be after my blood.
I asked to see Grace and the blond one stands in front of me. He says he Grace's father,
and I know this is the jerk that hurt my friend. Rage darkened my eyes and the next thing I know, he's on the ground.
That seems to bring the other two to attention because they were prepared to retaliate when Grace's voice stops them, but not before making sure I was who I said I was. My friend trained her well.
"Danno, Uncle Chin, Auntie Kono this is Hammer, Uncle Steve's best friend and second in being super SEAL" she says.
"How do you know that?" the moron asks.
And the little girl looks at his father with a look that reminds me too much of Steve and says," Uncle Steve showed me a picture and taught me what to ask to be sure if he was the man."
And I can tell that I'll be doing more than what my friend asked me. Yeah, it's time for me to rock Smooth dog's Ohana and maybe bring my friend his happy ending.
