Nina's Pov
Then plane touched down in Heathrow Airport at around 2:00 A.M. I got out of my seat and stood up to stretch. I stepped into the aisle and grabbed my bag from the overhead and said good bye to the stewardesses and pilots as they waved on my way out of the plane. I stepped through the vacuum tunnel to the gate, listening to the sound of my ears popping. I emerged into the airport and smiled… I was almost home.
I dragged my bag behind me and started searching for Fabian through the massive crowd at the gate.
"Fabian?" I called
"Nina?" a muffled voice answered faintly back
"Fabian? Is that you?" I asked
"Yeah" he called back
"Meet me down the hall at the Best Buy vending machine (By the way, every airport I've ever been to has one of these and is that really necessary?)" I called back
"Alright!"
I started pushing through the crowd the hallway behind, fighting to find him. I emerged from the crowd, frazzled, and start searching but then, I felt two arms wrap around me.
"Fabian!" I laughed "You're here!"
I turned around, him not letting go of me, and smiled at him. I kissed him like I hadn't seen him for years, even though it had only been a few days.
"How are you?" he asked
"Great now" I smiled
"So how's your gran?" he asked
"She's good" I answered, not leaving our gaze
"You ready to go home?" he asked
"Yeah" I nodded
He helped me with my bags through the airport, once we reached the cab pickup line he attempted to wave one down to no avail. I let out a big pig whistle and he just looked at me and raised one eye brow, followed by a little chuckle. I swore I was going to marry that boy someday.
That's when I decided to tell him the whole story of my past. The real story of why I lived with my gran. We climbed into the back of the taxi and I automatically closed the divider between the front and back half of the car. I needed to tell him this in complete confidentiality; He was the only one I had ever told.
"Fabian, can I trust you with my deepest secret?" I asked, turning to him
"Of course you can, I'm here for you" he smiled that glistening smile
"I'm going to tell you the real story of why I live with my gran; When I was born, my parents didn't really notice me. I mean, we lived in a big house and there was food when I wanted it but, they never took care of me. Every day from when I was two, my mom would go to bingo and try to win some money, and ,my dad was a car dealership owner that sold cars that were cheaply put together using stolen car parts. I mean, he didn't even care how many accidents he caused by using super glue to put bumpers on and patching seating together with hand sewing needles. I ended up staying home, all alone at the young age of 2. I made my own breakfast and lunch, by using an easy bake oven" he was completely engrossed in my story
"I started to read the magazines in the house and finished all of them off by my fourth birthday. From then on until I was six I would walk six blocks to the library every day to keep myself occupied. But then, one day, something amazing happened; The FBI found out about dad's stolen car deal and threw them both in jail for life for a number of crimes like tax evasion. They sent me to live with my gran and it felt like I was in heaven! She sent me to school to learn, and talked to me. So, my parents aren't dead. They're in prison" I started to choke out tears when I was finishing my story
Fabian looked blatantly astonished although, he still let my cry on his shoulder. He rubbed my back and let me cry. Once I couldn't cry any more, I looked up at him with my red and puffy eyes and said;
"You can't tell anyone"
"I swear I won't" he looked me in the eyes, I knew I could trust him
"We're here" a muffled, hidden driver said
"okay" I called back in a hushed voice
"Let me get the bags, why don't you go in and say hello to Trudy? I'll meet you in your room in a few minutes, yeah?" he asked
"okay" I peeped
I slipped out of the car and went into the house;
"Hello?" I called
"Nina! Oh dear, you're back!" Trudy called from the kitchen
She came rushing in and gave me a hug;
"Have you been crying?" she asked
"Oh… no, it's… allergies, I get them during the summer" I lied
"oh… okay" she could see straight threw me, I knew but, she let it go "Why don't you get settled in? I'll be around if you need me" she smiled and went back into the kitchen.
I walked up to my old bedroom and sat on the bed that sat in its original plain white sheets. I got up and looked around, through my drawers and saw the things I had shipped were already put away. I pulled out me white wool shawl that my gran knitted me the first day I got to her house. It was way to big for me then but now, It was my favorite piece of clothing. I put it on. It was so comfortable that I put on a pair of pajamas and wrapped myself in the shawl and took a nap. I was where I belonged.
