Finally managed to update this story!
Happy reading!
I didn't even make it to my cabin before the light came back. First I thought I was just going nuts or something. Then I started to perceive a human silhouette before me, and soon the light faded, leaving me staring at a tall blond man, about the age of twenty.
"Dad?" I asked, more than a bit taken aback. Okay, I know it sounds weird to you that my dad doesn't look more than five years older than me, but you can just imagine how weird it is for me. And the last time he'd appeared to me, the Titan war had just ended, my sister was dead and Olympus was in ruins. I couldn't help but to think if it was a good sign that he was here.
He grinned, and his teeth were almost dazzlingly white. The Sun reflected from his Ray Bans, and his gel covered blond hair was also gleaming in the mid-day sun. The only thing we shared in appearance, was probably that grin.
"Not bad, kid! I see I did the right choice!" He slammed my back.
"The right choice?" I asked, frowning.
"Yeah, making you the instrument of my power. Obviously, I couldn't personally interfere your little squabble since I'm a god, so you had to do it", Apollo explained.
"Jeez, you really sound praising", I stated, raising an eyebrow.
"Of course... Wait a minute, did I hear sarcasm?"
I rolled my eyes. "Couldn't you just admit I was pretty awesome?"
"Sure! You wanna hear a haiku about it?" He was starting to sound a bit too excited, and I sure didn't want to hear any crazy haikus of his.
"Um... Hey, I got an idea! What if you made Clarisse an awesome haiku about my awesomeness? I'm sure she'd love it!"
"Oh, that daughter of Ares? Sure. You sure you don't want to hear it?"
"Yeah, absolutely sure. So, you came here just to congratulate me or...?"
"Oh yeah, I did have also other issues..." He smoothed his hair thoughtfully, then sighed. "So... Zeus is kinda mad at you. For breaking the ancient rules during that duel..." He grimaced, his expression suddenly serious.
To be honest, I had already forgotten that matter. But apparently Zeus hadn't. "So... I'm gonna die?"
"No", Dad said, taking his Ray Bans off his eyes and stuffing them into his hip pocket. His eyes were bright blue, the same color as Kayden's. He looked just like a popular bloke from one of those high school's I had never been to, but I'd seen movies about. I was glad there weren't any Aphrodite's daughters nearby right now.
"Really? Then what?"
"Well, first he really though killing you was the easiest way to keep the Fates happy, but I got him persuaded."
"Persuaded to what?" I knew Apollo wouldn't been here if it was that simple. Unfortunately, gods usually didn't find congratulating their children so important that they would drag their selves to meet them.
"You have to complete a quest for him. Then he'll not kill you." Apollo actually looked like he cared, which almost surprised me.
"What kind of quest? With who? To where?" I demanded, but Dad just raised his hand to calm me down.
"I don't know, and even if I did, it's not upon me to tell you. You'll get some more info at the camp fire, but before it, you should choose who two you're gonna pick with you."
Who I would pick? Kayden? I wanted to have him with me, but I didn't want to endanger him. Clarisse? I doubted she would leave the camp during times like this. To be honest, I didn't want to leave the camp either, but it seemed I didn't have a choice.
"Good luck." I heard Apollo say. I raised my look back at him, but he was already gone. I sighed, continuing my walk toward the cabin seven.
I opened the cabin's front door, but before I could step in, someone rushed into me, cutting off my thoughts.
"What..." Then I saw who it was. "Kayden!" My face spread into a grin and I found myself hugging him.
"Jess!" He rasped out. "You're conscious!"
"You too", I pointed out, setting him free. He really looked like Apollo, even he was just fourteen years old. An image of him in the age of twenty, wearing Ray Bans and a jarful of hair gel came to my mind. I almost laughed aloud, but managed to control myself.
"So, where were you going in a hurry like that?" I asked.
"Um... To Cara." He moved his eyes from mine, looking troubled. As I now looked at him more specifically, I could tell something was troubling him.
"What's wrong?" I asked, frowning.
Before he could answer, a voice from the cabin yelled my name, and soon all my half-siblings from the Apollo cabin were in the doorway, asking how I felt and telling me how cool my tour de force on the battlefield had been.
After a few minutes of me parading, Kayla suggested going to the dining pavilion for lunch. As we walked there, I kept thinking about what Apollo had said... Who was I really gonna pick for the quest? I gave Kayden a quick look, wondering what was making him troubled. I wanted to ask him, but I doubted he would like to share the problem with everyone. I placed a hand on his shoulder and an other one on Lyn's. I would ask him later.
And the other thing I would have to ask today from two campers... I'll think of that later, I decided. Why had there be this many problems? Why couldn't we just get the chance to enjoy our victory against Meliza Nicoli in privacy? But we just couldn't. There was Gaia and her army. Meliza herself was still somewhere out there, probably already planning our dooms. The Romans we about to appear here trying to kill us, too. I would have to complete some freaking quest for Zeus, and Kayden seemed to have his own problems with Cara.
And to think we had just less than a year ago celebrated our victory from the Titans, thinking everything was fine.
But we were demigods. Everything was never fine.
So, a quest for Jessica and two other demigods - you liked the plot twist? Tell me in a review ;)
