A/N: I just want to say….THANK YOU. Thanks for 10+ follows and 1000+ views, it means a lot and I'm sorry I haven't been updating as of late, final assessments for the end of the semester are a big reason for my hiatus. (Actually they aren't considering I haven't done any work for nearly any of my assignments) Anyways, please enjoy this chapter.
Chapter 5: You, me, and the military
Six Days after First Infection
The glaring sunlight found its way in through the boarded up windows of the apartment, illuminating the dark living space within. The duo that shared the apartment were not awoken by such glares, as the sun shown into the room they shared and brightened their different complexions. They both lay unclothed under the sheets and blankets that were previously neatly folded at the foot of the bed. Vivian lay atop Seer breathing slowly and shallowly, letting out a calming exhale as she continued to sleep soundly on his lightly colored chest. Seer himself was not asleep and had woken up sometime before dawn. He had watched the sun's rays creep over the roof tops and through the blinds that decorated the window. He had dared not move as he did not wish to awake the sleeping girl who slept on top of him. He had had hours to take in her beauty which now was magnified by the sunlight that shone lightly across her face. Vivian had probably been a fairly attractive woman before turning into what she was now, of that he was sure. Her right hand had been laid bracingly against his chest and Seer had noticed it had reverted to a rather normal looking hand rather than being in its usual claw form. Her touch was delicate regardless of her being asleep. He found himself listening to her breathing as he was stuck in a state of curiosity.
Suddenly he noticed her eyelids flicker open slightly as she lifted herself up and brushed away the dreariness from her eyes only to notice him watching and quite quickly turn red as a tomato. He could see her frantically thinking of how to relieve the embarrassment from the situation before he noticed a small sparkle in her eyes, as if something had come to mind. She lunged at his face before he could gasp in surprise and locked lips with him, the proximity blocking his view of anything including her. The feeling of the kiss was rather awkward before Vivian arched her back and made an effort to make it more romantic. When he felt her pull away he expected her to stop but the relief of her was only minimal as she pressed into him again as if she herself had found a strange intoxicating ecstasy from their attachment. She finally pulled away but was still as red as she had been before, maybe even redder. She couldn't take the embarrassment anymore so she buried her head into his chest and pulled the blankets over her to cover up.
Seer gave it a few moments before chiming in.
"I don't know about you, but I'm perfectly fine with lying in bed all day…" he said softly. The mass under the blankets shifted as Vivian positioned herself where only her face poked out from underneath. She was still bright red as before but seemed to have a look of comfort in her eyes.
"I-I-I wouldn't mind either..." she said as she laid still. She reached a hand out from under the covers and placed it back on Seers chest. She moved her hand around until it came to rest over his heart, which continued to beat softly like a metronome. Vivian kept her hand there a short while longer before moving her other hand to her own heart. She felt nothing as a dead silence echoed from within. She seemed troubled by this and Seer noted so.
"It makes no difference whether it beats or not, you're still alive inside" he said matter-of-factly, not actually looking at Vivian as he said it but turning his attention to the other side of the room. Vivian shook herself out of her trance and looked up at him, slightly bewildered. A small smile found its way to her face.
"You really know what to sa-"she started before gun fire rang out from the street below, along with shouts from male voices mixed in with the occasional female as well. Seer gently moved Vivian off of him and quickly threw on a pair of pants along with a shirt and peeked out of the window to the street below. A military Apc was patrolling the streets below along with a squad of armed forces which were being swarmed by a unrelenting horde of infected. Although the numbers of the infected were daunting, the squad seemed to be able to hold its own against the not so smart undead. Suddenly a roar of anger emitted from the direction of the Apc as the vehicle seemed to tilt until it fell dully on its side. A hulking mass of muscle stood where the Apc once sat well situated to gun down any advancing infected from the northern part of the street. The hulking mass resembled something like a human tank as it barreled towards the squad. As it ran out of view, Seer felt the whole building shake as he assumed the Tank had smashed into the wall of the building. Vivian had been sitting up and the sudden movement caused her to fall face first onto the floor almost comically. Seer stifled a small chuckle before helping the witch sit up right again, wrapping the blanket around her tightly.
"Wh-what was that?" she asked frantically as he continued wrapping. Seer looked up at her for a second before continuing to wrap.
"A rather large infected that I can't control. Its chasing some military personal somewhere in the lower floors, no doubt their headed up higher and this will most likely be their last stop… if any of them make it." He said finishing his wrapping. If any of them survived the climb up the stairs he would have to save them for Vivian's sake, although he had no idea what they would do if they were saved by an infected, he at least hopped they wouldn't destroy his hideout. He placed a soft kiss on her forehead and placed his hand on her head.
"Wait here; don't move no matter what you hear alright. That thing can do some real damage to you and so can they." He said, quickly exiting from the bedroom before she could get a word in edgewise. He wasn't about to allow some giant ape tear apart living humans in his home, especially when they could prove to be useful later as a means of a more secure hideout away from the city. He swiftly moved from the hallway to the living room which held the only safe exit out of the apartment. He dawned his signature black vest and hoodie before leaving, though due to his need to confront the humans without being shot he dared not place the hood over his head.
