Damon was sitting in the middle of his living room, looking for the best way to convince Klaus that he'd be good enough to take Veronica out while his brother tried to help him, liking the changes Veronica Mickealson was making in his brother.
"I think you're looking at this the wrong way Damon." Stefan told him.
"How so?"
"You're looking for a way to force him to let you take her out… Maybe you should simply consider him like any other concerned father and just go and ask him. Tell him how much you already feel for Veronica…" Stefan suggested.
"Just like that? I tell him that I can't get his teenage daughter from my head since I've seen her, that she turned my world upside down and that she made me forget all the other women and you think he'll let me take her out?" Damon asked his brother.
"It won't hurt to try it this way. Promise him to be on your best behavior, not to take things too far, too soon… Show him the Damon I've always known you could be." Stefan insisted.
"Maybe you're right. Veronica should be at school right now, I'll go and talk to Klaus right away." Damon nodded before he left the house and drove his Camaro to the Mickealson house.
.
Klaus knew that Damon was coming, Veronica had told him what a great time she had had with him and how he wanted to take her out. She also told him that she'd like to give him a chance but that she asked him to ask her father first. She then tilted her head, told her father that she loved him and knew he'd take the right decision before kissing him softly on the cheek and going to bed.
She was good, that was for sure.
He still wasn't sure of the decision he needed to make when he heard a car in his drive way and saw Damon getting out of his car, his face changing from confident to nervous every second. He opened the door before the older Salvatore could knock, liking the surpise on his face.
"Damon, I expected you to come sooner." Klaus said as he let him inside.
"You were? Why?" Damon asked him, surprised.
"Veronica told me you might have something to ask me."
"Oh… Well, I waited a couple of days to think things through." Damon replied honestly.
"So, you want to take my sweet, innocent, precious 16 year old daughter out?" Klaus asked and from his spot in the kitchen, Elijah smirked as he realized that his brother was going to test the vampire, to see what he was willing to go through to take her out, what he was capable of doing and if he deserved her.
"I do… Listen, I know I don't have the best reputation when it comes to girls but Veronica, she's special." Damon said.
"I know she is, she's my daughter." Klaus replied.
"It's more than that. Ever since I first saw her, I can't get her out of my head. It seems like she took over everything in my life. I can't stop thinking about her and she took away all interest I had for other women… I know she's young and I promise you I'm serious about this. What I feel for her… It's stronger than anything I've ever felt before in my life…" Damon started.
"It must be if you're willing to bare your feelings for me like this." Klaus nodded, sensing the truth behind his words and knowing that Damon Salvatore wouldn't show his weaknesses just for anyone.
"I can promise you I'll take things slow, wait until she's ready, go at her own pace if I'm lucky enough to have her love me back… I…" Damon stopped, realizing the words he had spoken.
"Love?" Klaus asked.
"I… I think so, yes." Damon admitted.
"You realize that the minute you hurt her or break her heart, I'll rip your heart out and crush it before your eyes so you can see me doing it before you die, right?" Klaus asked him.
"I do. I won't hurt her." Damon assured him.
"You can take her out on a date Friday. She has to be back before 10:30 pm. We'll see about the rest depending on how you behave during this date and rest assured that you will be watched." Klaus told him.
"I know. I've noticed the hybrids following me every once in a while." Damon nodded before he added "Thank you."
"Behave and we'll be fine. She's what I hold most precious. I won't have her cry over a heart break. Consider yourself on trial. You can leave now." Klaus told him, looking him in the eyes to make sure he got the point.
"Thank you. You won't regret it." Damon replied, relieved that it went so well and that he didn't have his neck snapped for even considering asking the man for the right to date his daughter.
.
When Friday night came, Veronica was nervous but her aunt and Caroline helped her calm down, along with Lilly's ghostly and reasuring presence. Damon came to pick her up right on time and had planned something normal for their first date: dinner at the Grill and a movie. He didn't want to overwhelm her and he figured that keeping things ordinary would be for the best.
He had been expecting a couple of hybrids following him and Veronica around all night, he hadn't been expecting Rebekah and Matt going with them to the Grill and Caroline and Klaus being in the same room at the movie theater but he ignored them. They were both having a great time and when he dropped her off, a little before her curfew, he knew that the smile on her face would grant him a second date, hopefully soon and without having to go through another Daddy klaus interrogation.
"Well, will I get my heart ripped out tonight?" He joked.
"I don't think so. I had fun… Thank you." Veronica replied shyly.
"It was my pleasure. Now, would you like to join me for lunch tomorrow?" He asked her.
"I'd love to but I'm going to visit a potential college for next year tomorrow. Maybe for dinner if you don't have any plans?" She suggested with a tilt of her head.
"I'd love that. I'll even cook for you." He nodded.
"You can cook?" She asked him with surprise.
"Of course I can. You don't get to be as old as i am without knowing a few things." He smiled back.
"That's a date then, I can't wait to taste it. Good night Damon." She wished him before she quickly kissed him on the cheek and went inside her house, ready to tell her father how it went before she found her aunt and Lilly in her bedroom, waiting for a report of their own.
