The next day, Veronica was up early to go visit Whitmore College.

Rebekah was supposed to go with her but got distracted by something else and the youngest Mickealson managed to convince her father to let her go on her own. He agreed of course, unable to refuse her anything so now she was driving her car to the College she was considering because it was close to home, knowing that two of her father's best hybrids were following her, trying not to let her see them.

Even if they had gotten better at hidding out, she still knew they were here and found it comforting in a way.

Veronica knew that she could go to any college she wanted in the country, her father assured her that he would follow her, that the entire family would go with her and it was obvious that money wouldn't be a problem for her family but she also knew that Caroline would go to Whitmore to spend as much time as possible with her mother and she didn't want her father to be forced to choose between the two of them. The least she could do for her father was to try and find something that would make her happy near Mystic Fall's, near the girl her father loved.

If it wasn't her top choice, Veronica was pleased by this school. She was approached, two hours after she arrived, by one of the teachers from the science department. He looked young enough to still pass for a frat boy to some people and told her that his nephew would be attending the next year. She made sure he knew that his department didn't interest her at all but he still insisted on giving her a tour and she knew it would be rude to decline.

Knowing that having a teacher hate her was bad for admission, she was polite with him and agreed to follow him to see the house he wanted to show her.

That was her first mistake.

Her second mistake had been to believe she was still safe and protected when her father's hybrids had been slaughtered, their heads cut right off their necks by two men that had been hiding as they tried to follow her inside the building.

"What's going on? Who are you?" Veronica exclaimed as she looked around herself, seeing that she was surrounded and feeling a very bad vibe in the air.

"We are the Augustine secret society. Here I was afraid you'd be hard to get, being some kind of hybrid and all but as it turns out, you're just an easily impressionable teenage girl with a false sense of safety." The professor smirked as he closed in on her and injected her with something cold.

"My father will look for me. He'll save me." Veronica assured him before she passed out.

"They all hope someone's going to come and yet nobody ever does." He replied coldly with a smirk on his face.

.

"She's still not answering her cell phone, neither are the hybrids." Klaus spat as he paced his living room, a few hours later.

"She was going to go on a date with Damon, maybe she went directly to the Boarding house." Elijah suggested.

"I don't think so, Damon was supposed to pick her up and he's so nervous about screwing things up that he would have called to say she was there if she had gotten to his place before coming back here." Stefan informed them, interrupting his chess game with Kol to tell them he thought they were right to be worried.

"And we all know that veronica wouldn't go over there without calling first and letting us know she's fine." Kol added, worried for his niece.

It was not 10 minutes later when the doorbell rang. Damon was on the other side of the door.

"I'm here to pick up Veronica. Is she ready?" He asked.

"We were hoping she was with you already." Klaus replied as he stood up.

"What do you mean? Isn't she here? What happened?" Damon asked.

"She never came back from her College Tour and neither of her hybrids are answering their phones." Elijah explained.

"I think it's time to go and look for her at Whitmore College." Klaus declared.

"Whitmore College, that's where she went?" Damon exclaimed.

"Yes, why? What is it to you?" Klaus asked, sensing something big coming.

"If I had known, I would have warned you not to let her go… This place is the last place you want her in." Damon growled.

"How would you know?" Kol asked.

"Whitmore College is the home of a secret society called the Augustine. Their goal is to capture vampires and experiment on them. They're monsters." Damon declared.

"How would you know about this?" Klaus asked, growing even more worried.

"Because I was their subject for 5 years about 60 years ago. My subject number was 21051." Damon revealed.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Stefan asked.

"Because I didn't want you to go back to being a ripper out of guilt… and because I was mad at you for not realizing that I was missing for 5 years. Now let's weapon up and go there. I'll tell you everything I know on the way." Damon said and Klaus nodded.

Rebekah, Kol and Elijah rushed around the house and came back with different weapons and they all headed in Elijah's car, mainly because it was the biggest and it could fit them all.

On the way, Damon told them everything the Augustine did to him and how he managed to escape. He also told them that he had to leave Enzo behind and that he had to turn his emotions off in order to do it. As he spoke, he could see that his brother was feeling guilty for not noticing, for not ever finding out.

.

Veronica woke up in some sort of jail.

"Ah, sleeping beauty finally wakes. My name's Lorenzo but my friends call me Enzo." A man with an accent similar to her father's said from the little window on the wall, coming from the other cell.

"I'm Veronica. What are those Augustine and why am I here?" She asked him.

"Catching on quickly for such a young lady. The Augustine is a secret society that experiments on Vampires though I don't know why you're here since you still have a beating heart in your chest." Enzo replied.

"I'm not human. I'm a hybrid. My mother was human, my father was half werewolf and half vampire." Veronica replied honestly, feeling that she could trust this man.

"Klaus? He's your father?" Enzo asked her.

"You know my dad?"

"I've never actually met him but his brother Kol was the one who changed me instead of letting me die of the plague." Enzo replied.

"Well, they'll come for me soon, I just know it. We'll be out of here in no time." She assured him.

"I hope you're right, but don't get your hopes too high. It hurts when it all comes crashing down." He told her.

"You've had hope of getting out of here before? How long have you been here?" Veronica asked him.

"Doctor Whitmore captured me a little before the end of World War 2. About 10 years later he brought a man in the cell you're in, his name is Damon Salvatore. He managed to escape but left me behind, even though I helped him escape…" Enzo started to say.

"Damon? I know him… I was supposed to go on a second date with him tonight… If he knows this place then my family will be able to find us even faster." Veronica exclaimed, hope in her heart.

"He knew you were coming here?" Enzo asked her.

"I… He knew I was visiting a College but I didn't tell him which one… Why?"

"Just wondering…" He shrugged his shoulders.

"Listen, no matter what, when my family comes for me, I'll get you out of here as well, I promise you." She told him, looking at him through the little window on the ground.

"If you do that, I might reconsider my plan to seek revenge on Damon." He promised her in return.

"I'm sure he had a good reason for not coming back for you… Don't worry, we won't be here much longer. Speaking of which, if they come, we might have to fight. Are you strong enough?" She asked him.

"I'm not even sure I can run at human speed." He chuckled.

"Then here, have some of my blood. A couple of mouth full should be enough. My blood is stronger than the usual." She offered as she passed her arm to his side of the cell.

"Are you sure?" He asked her.

"Yes, do it. Don't worry, I'll heal quickly enough." She smiled and he did as she said, he drank from her arm, only the two mouths full she had allowed him to have.

"Thank you. I won't forget it." Enzo promised.
