Chapter 5

"How did I know I'd find you here?" Lydia smiled as she found Jude shooting around at the river court. He had a sweat soaked Ravens t shirt on and basketball shorts. His headphones were plugged in his ears and his hair was a mess. He grinned at her when he saw her step onto the court.

"It's the night before the biggest game of my life, where else would I be?" He panted, letting the ball fall to his side. He reached out and pulled Lydia towards him and into his sweaty chest. "I haven't seen you all day."

"Yeah I helped my mom out at the café; Davis came over and helped me close. He was telling me about this new script he's working on with your dad, it sounds great. Apparently tonight is ladies night so she needed to get out a little early." Lydia mocked. "Our moms are so lame."

"Oh you were with Davis?" Jude asked, a slight hint of disgust in his voice. "Why?"

"Because he's my best friend and I like to hang out with him," Lydia answered. "And you know that, it's always been that way."

"Yeah but it doesn't mean I like it," Jude rolled his eyes. Lydia glared over at him, scooting slightly away. "What? It just feels like you'd rather be with him than me sometimes. He needs to find his own girl."

"We just have a lot in common, Jude. We like the same books, the same music, the same movies, you know?" Lydia explained. "And I'm here now, aren't I? The night before your high school debut and there is no other place I can think of being."

"Now that's what I like to hear," Jude smirked, kissing her cheek. "I hear this party tomorrow is going to be off the hook."

"It is a Scott party after all," Lydia shrugged her shoulders. "Davis is coming, I invited him. So will you please try and not be so, I don't know, out there?"

"What's that supposed to mean?" Jude asked, slightly offended.

"I know how you get after games and stuff; you tend to be a little bit of a show off and obnoxious." Lydia told him. "You've always been like that your whole life; it's not always a bad thing. You get it from your mom."

"Are you calling my mom a show off?" Jude accused, starting to laugh as soon as he said it. "I just realized how true that is."

"And it's not a bad thing because your mom is amazing!" Lydia laughed along with him. "Just chill it out a little bit so your brother feels comfortable, alright?"

"Fine, but only for you, alright?" Jude told her. "I can't believe you compared me to my mother."

"You are definitely your mother's son," Lydia smiled.

Meanwhile…

"That was great Jonah, take a 5 minute break." Peyton pressed on the callback button to talk to Jonah in the recording booth. He was running through his set list for the show the next night, with Peyton and Sawyer watching on. "Wow, this kid is taking a major turnaround. What did you do to him?"

"I just have my ways I guess," Sawyer shrugged at her mom.

"I'm about to get going, your Aunt Brooke is picking me up for ladies' night any minute." Peyton said, rushing around her office to pack up her purse and other items. "Will you be okay to finish running through his set and close up?"

"Yeah of course," Sawyer nodded but her mom gave her a look of concern. "I'll be fine Mom! And Logan is working tonight if I need anything."

"You and Logan seem to be close," Peyton noted, putting on her leather jacket.

"He's Lyd's cousin so he's basically mine," Sawyer played off what she knew her mother was suggesting. "He's cool."

"Alright whatever you say missy," Peyton winked at her daughter. The studio door opened and Brooke came barging in, shot glass in hand.

"That Evans kid turned into a smooth talker, I walk in the door and he basically shoves a shot glass in my hand." Brooke said, slamming the shot back and setting the glass on Peyton's desk. "Hey god baby."

"You know I'm 18, right?" Sawyer joked as Brooke kissed her forehead.

"I try to forget it every day; you kids are all getting way too old." Brooke shook her head. "Are you ready P. Sawyer? My son is playing his first game as a Raven tomorrow and I need to get drunk."

"Let's roll," Peyton said, grabbing her purse. She kissed her daughter's cheek. "Love you baby, call your dad when you leave here."

"Will do mama," Sawyer waved the two off as they left the studio. She propped the door open to the studio, glancing out at the Thursday bar crowd beginning to form. Logan was behind the bar, waving to her mom and Brooke as they left. Sawyer was sure they would end up here at the end of the night, being as Logan usually gave them free drinks. He glanced over towards the door to Red Bedroom and saw Sawyer looking at him. He smiled and waved, holding up a bottle of vodka towards her. She shook her head and waved back.

"Are you ready to get back at it?" Jonah asked, coming up behind Sawyer and putting his hands on her shoulders.

"Oh hey, uh yeah," Sawyer smiled warmly, turning to face him. "Let's go superstar,"

"Hold on a minute, you've got this hair…" Jonah moved a hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear. He then suddenly crashed his lips against hers, pushing her up against the door. Without thinking, Sawyer didn't exactly push away and welcomed the kiss, putting her hand on his face. After they pulled away to catch their breath, Jonah looked over towards Logan, who ducked his head away like he hadn't seen what just went down. Logan shook his head slightly and turned away, slamming his fist on the counter.
