So this story has been gone for awhile but since the new I.S. season is out I figure let's update also I have this idea for a follow up this story that requires me to get off my ass and finish it. Which I estimate to take 3-4 chapters
Also I have this follow up story to this it will probably won't be qualified as a crossover and be in the normal fan fiction category…it involves involuntary inter-dimensional travel…and WTF momments
Ichika POV
So we got back to the testing area the scientist had prepared some new weapons for us, first off he modified the nano-sword into a machete it wasn't that difficult either he just reprogrammed it with another injection of nanites, apparently nano machines have been researched as alternate way of storing weapons for awhile now so development was well under way it just didn't have much support until me and Kazuma started taking out I.S.'s. No better publicity than doing the preconceived impossible. Wow, that probably made me sound really cocky… well the machete version has a lower reach then the original katana but there's a plus side we can now dual wield with that another mark appeared on our left hand just on the back of the hand though it was identical to what was on our right hand it just didn't lead up our arm.
Anyways the other weapons were what he said to be coil guns also known as gauss rifles. To us the just looked like carb-9's. The scientist said that he used the gun as a base and just replaced the internals for the gauss weaponry while the stock housed the battery. The reason for this is that the velocity of the projectiles fired from the gun can match up to I.S. weaponry in terms of damage He also changed up the armor and managed to put it inside a Kevlar vest with shoulder guards. so new weapons, new armor we are good to go. But wait there's more.
"Along with your weapons we have created, there's a new set of gear I had delivered while you were gone" the scientist said gesturing to two crates behind him. "I've noticed that in your fights, your great mobility is a major factor. These are two prototype mobility harnesses, the story behind these are special forces units around the world wanted something to increase their mobility in irregular terrain such has cities or mountainous areas." Inside the crate were two harness resembling what someone would use to climb mountains, but instead of places to hook on rope there a cylindrical canister with hoses that connected to another object that had two nozzles coming out at an angle. "but like with so many other military projects was scrapped to make funding for I.S. development." We each took out a harness and put it on over our armor "I reconfigured these to be compatible with the nannites inside your bodies and it should respond to mental commands why don't you two try it out before you start fighting." Me and Kazuma walked out into the testing ground and headed toward an area in the room that wasn't destroyed from one of fights.
"So boss I've been thinking" started Kazuma.
"Always a dangerous thing." I joked "What about?"
"So I couldn't help but notice that we've been fighting things that use weapons that could probably when hit us scatter our body parts all over the place like giant swords mini gun lances and giant ass beam rifles and isn't t this suppose to be a test?" I paused realizing that what he said was true.
"Wow, to think of all the times I almost died today…" I said.
"Right?" said Kazuma
"Ah well it's not like we haven't fought an I.S. without almost dying before. Plus I'm pretty sure the next fight will be hard to do." I'm saying this because Laura (the German girl) has some sort of grudge against me and Rin she confronted me on a promise I made on the day of getting abducted but apparently I had issues remembering it and I was sure I did it was 'if she gets better at cooking then I'd have eat her fried pork every day.' But regardless she's pissed and we're in a life or death combat mode so this fight won't be pretty
"True that" said kazuma "So how does this thing work?"
"He said it uses mental command so I guess we think about it." I replied.
"Yeah about that what does this even do?" asked Kazuma trying to glance over his shoulder at the harness.
"Looks like a jet pack so imagine flying, maybe?" I asked, we both tried it, nothing happened.
"Boss…I got nothing." Said Kazuma dejectedly. "Oh wait, you know how on the ARK there were a ton of old video games?"
"Yeah." I said not knowing where he was going with this.
"Well this harness reminds of the packs the light infantry used on Titanfall." Said Kazuma "So maybe if I imagine…holy shit." Kazuma flew into the air uncontrollably before gaining control of himself and landing on the other end of a particularly large lane that we wouldn't have been able to get across on our own.
"Holy shit!" I exclaimed "Kazuma you crazy bastard how the hell did you do that."
"I just imagined jumping and using the harness!" he shouted over from across the gap.
I stepped back a bit and ran jumped and imagined using the harness and flew into the air doing a flip in the process. Hand landed next to Kazuma. "Show off." He deadpanned, I just laughed it off. For the next few minutes we spent our time getting use to the mobility harness and eventually it became as if it was almost a natural action like jumping.
Then we tested out the gauss rifles/carbine, when I shot one round it punched a fist sized hole in a container and kept going until it reached the reinforced concrete wall which it then made a dent in "So this things shoots a 9mm round, right?" I asked a little stunned, I was judging from the size of the clip which is the same size used on the ARK.
'Correct' said the scientist from the intercom 'well at least the dimensions are it fires the entire bullet due to not needing a chemical propellant.' We then got curious and began a full auto fire. This thing fired slower than the original CARB-9 but had almost no recoil was incredibly accurate and the damage…well after me and Kazuma fired ten rounds each, the container and anything behind it was totally destroyed.
"God dammit this thing is awesome!" exclaimed Kazuma excitedly holding the weapon "Man I wish we had these on the ARK."
"If we did, there probably wouldn't have been an ARK left." I said as the idea played out in my mind. Kazuma paused and thought about this.
"Good point." He said probably having a similar scenario play out in his head "still would have been awesome though."
"No arguments here." I replied, I'd like to point out that if we were in a video game when we were on the ARK the weapons we have now would be considered a god gun. Hell, Security might have just surrender on the spot after someone got killed with this. We went back to our waiting zone to resupply. "So there is something I've been wondering" the scientist looked at me "you said the Nano sword, generates excess force so how does it do that?" I'm a curious person, and I'd like to know what my weapon does when I use it.
"I was wondering if someone was ever going to ask me that" said the scientist happily "well the nano sword as you know gets its name for the fact it uses nannites." I nodded "well when you swing those nannites generate force within the sword and strengthens your arm so it doesn't fly off when it meets the weapon of an I.S…we had few mishaps in the preliminary testing…" I nodded again not paying much heed to the mishap statement, having seen peoples limbs get blown off by grenades and various high caliber weapons. A short but brutal conflict indeed. "so basically you have millions of tiny machines helping you push back."
"And what about these harnesses?"
"Oh great question, you know I really wish the rest of people in your age group were this curious!" this guy strikes me as someone who wanted to be a teacher. "well it uses a high efficiency fuel originally meant for long range stealth bombers that could fly all the way around the world and deliver bomb strike and continue flying back to base without turning around. As you can see the fuel formula was completed but the plane on the other hand…"
"I.S. development?" I replied, not really as a question.
"Correct." He said, it seemed like human development stopped more than progressed with the advent of the I.S. "I basically worlds like a miniature jet engine, and with the high efficiency fuel it uses it could go on for 12 hours on constant use, which is perfect for the short fast paced strike team missions it's intended for." So after the explanation we got the signal that we were ready for combat.
We met the two I.S. pilots in the middle of the room both of them already deployed Laura had large black I.S. with what I guess to be a very large shoulder mounted cannon, Rin had a sort of dark pink I.S. with very large claws and two large orbs hovering on her shoulders I'm assuming those are weapons of some sort and based on the size of the claws it probably holds a weapon maybe a melee weapon of some sort, a very, very big melee weapon. And the best part is they are both glaring at me, just me it's like Kazuma isn't even here "You are sure popular with the ladies aren't you boss." Said Kazuma with a smirk.
"Yeah I must really be lucky to have all this attention directed at me." I replied dryly
'You may begin.' Said the Scientist over the intercom, me and Kazuma unloaded on them neutral expressions as we did the force from the gun seemed make stumble back before flying away to get away from us. Me and Kazuma split up both of them came after me.
"Wow you really are popular with the ladies" said Kazuma over the radio "You ever think about starting your own harem?"
"That'll be the day" I replied in a joking manner despite the two angry ladies in high powered death machines. "like any girl would want to go out with me."
"I'm sure there's at least one that would go out with you" said Kazuma as if he knew something. Kazuma was eventually able to catch up and managed to come over and use his harness to jump over them and unloaded on them from above causing the two to collide with each other. I took the time to turn and open fire while they were pinned down. But Laura got up and shot me with her large cannon. Which I dodged as a large orange streak flew past me I could feel the heat emanating off of it, I don't care it this is a test that would have killed me, anyways before she could fire another round Kazuma came in and shot her in the back a bit causing her to give chase to him. I guess the soldier in her figure the double team tactic wasn't working…for them anyways. But that didn't stop Rin from coming for me.
Laura POV
That was humiliating barely a minute into combat and they already managed to take down half of my shields. The instructors brother and his friend are weak, the instructor's brother is a weakness that needs to be eliminated so she can be strong. Her one failure came back from the dead and haunts her! It's unforgiveable
Flashback
"Why are you so strong?" I yelled to the back of the woman who helped train me to be strong, yet she was undoubtedly on another level than I was.
"There was someone I cared about." That was surprising the strong aren't suppose to care about those weaker than them. Her face shows regret. "I failed to protect him and now he's gone. So I got stronger for the other person in my life that I need to protect." These words were unbelievable how could someone so strong say something like that. And her face it shows sorrow and compassion!
END Flasback
Someone that caused the strong to be weak needs to be eliminated! But first I'll deal with his friend…
Rin POV.
Damn you Ichika I'll make you pay for not remembering the promise…Well you did but you didn't understand it!
Right now I'm shooting my impact cannons at him and to my surprise he's easily evading as if he knows where I'm firing, which should be difficult the impact cannons don't have barrels and makes them harder to predict yet he's moving like he knows where they're going to hit!
So I step up the rate of fire, this thing waste energy but that wouldn't matter if I can't hit him in the first place!
*Boom*
Hey I hit him, he just flew into a few shipping containers, that has to do some damage! I mean this is devastating on an I.S. and he is just…a person on foot. "Crap, Ichika are you okay!?" I shouted realizing that I might have killed my significant childhood friend
Ichika POV
My ears were ringing and I had pain in my…everywhere. "Yeah… I'm going to be feeling that one tomorrow." I groaned as I got up. There are not enough revive syringes on the ARK to cover what I'm going through right now. My vision was hazy and I shook it to clear it. After a few seconds I was good to go. ARK combat lesson, don't stop pressing the attack, don't give your enemy a chance just keep fighting through the pain and suffering.
I aimed my gauss rifle and shot out a few rounds which hit dead on as Rin flew out of the way. I jumped out of the hole in the container seeing as how she stepped up her cannon barrage I decided to come in close with the nano swords/machetes. I deliver a hit before she materializes some big Chinese style swords.
I began alternating between using my sword to block and using my guns to try an disable the cannons after I did what I think was enough damage I jumped back and fired at her however she combined her blades and tossed them at me which I dodged and the blades just kept going knocking containers up in the air…not down up…eventually the conjoined blades embedding itself in a wall. "Wow…and it thought I was destructive." Just look at my track record
"Impressed?" asked Rin with sense of pride.
"I would be if you didn't just throw away your remaining weapon, idiot." I deadpanned, she stumbled a bit in realization. I jumped in and finished off her shields making her I.S. deactivate. "Impressed?" I smirked mockingly. She just grumbled.
"shiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!" said the voice of my best friend kazuma who landed right next to us and bounced and rolled a bit before turning into a slide and stopping a few feet away "Hey boss." He said this casually like he just didn't fall from the air, the dude was pretty roughed up not life threateningly or even seriously but still. You have to admit this guy is a pretty tough bastard.
"Kazuma, the hell man? Aren't you done yet?" I asked incredulously.
"Well her I.S. is different" he replied still on the ground "She has this weird barrier that stops anything solid from hitting her including me, when I got caught she used these weird cable-wire things and tossed me in the air and now I'm here. I think we need to double team her."
"I see…" I said thoughtfully "Well lucky for you I just finished up here."
"Dude nice." He said giving the thumbs up
"Thank you." I replied "so you come at her from the front and I'll hit from be-" before I could finish my combat intuition kicked in and I grabbed Rin and pulled her down just as a orange streak shot over us "People with I.S. do not know how to hold back." I muttered before shouting "Alright new plan, Kazuma cover us while I get Rin to her safe zone."
"On it boss!" he said jumping up and firing a few rounds from where the shot came from. While I picked up Rin and carried her bridal style.
"What are you doing idiot!?" she yelled blushing…for whatever reason "Put me down!"
"Not happening" I said in serious tone she stopped an looked up "listen your I.S. is out of power and that means me and Kazuma are the ones with the mobility, I'll put you down once we get over there!" she remained silent.
Rin POV
You idiot, you stupid, stupid, idiot! Why are doing this for me? I don't need you to do this for me! I hurt you, why are you helping me? This is your fault anyway for not understanding our promise!
He put me down and told me to get inside before running off to help his friend. That serious expression on his face…
Ichika POV
"Kazuma I'm on my way." I said into the radio after I dropped off Rin.
"Roger that going on the offensive…Guh"
"Kazuma!" I yelled concerned
"I'm alright boss, she got me with those wires again and through me against a container and…holy crap she's charging her cannon!" shit I'm not sure what that cannon does but I'm sure if it hits Kazuma there won't be much left of him.
Then I did something that would forever be recognized as one of the most craziest, reckless, yet totally awesome stunts of my life. I jumped in front of the cannon as it fired and met the projectile with my sword. I was able to h cut in half and the parts split off in two separate directions causing damage as they went.
"Boss…" said Kazuma stunned as he jumped up from his position on the ground he stared at me with shocked look on his face before breaking into a grin "That was the single most awesome thing I have ever seen!" Even Laura seemed shocked at my stunt… but her face quickly contorted to anger.
"I didn't even think about it" I replied a little surprised myself. "Anyways lets finish this!"
"I'm with you!" said Kazuma materializing his swords. We charged I attacked from the front since her rage seems to be focused on me but then I got stuck in the field Kazuma described the only difference is Kazuma came up from behind before she could do anything. He hit her with both swords releasing me and making her fly forward I jumped in front of her and swung moth my swords sending her back in Kazuma's direction which he hit back my way. I smirk as I realize we're basically playing tennis with an I.S. as the ball.
If this was public, this would be a major blow the feminist superiority ego the fact where doing this to their bragging rights. But then something happened. Laura started screaming as light emanated from her I.S. then a force blew us away too.
Kazuma rejoined me as something…weird happened to the I.S. it…well liquefied into a black goo. It pulsated and a rather erotic manner considering Laura's expression before submerging her and transforming into a Chifuyu replica with a sword. We just stared at the thing trying to figure out what happened.
"I.S. are weird." sated Kazuma bluntly, I nodded in agreement. "So do you think she's still alive in there?"
"Maybe." I said
"So do you know what happened?"
"Not really." I said, like I would know how a high tech war machine just went through several states of matter "maybe some sort of failsafe inside activated by emotional stress?" we're just making small talk to help distract ourselves from what we just saw.
"It kind of looks like your older sister." Stated Kazuma
"It does." I said "Well you stay back since I'm guessing this is the part where I'm suppose to say it just became personal and do some climatic finishing move."
"All yours boss."
I charged in dodged a sword strike and made a light cut into the body, as I thought it was hollow inside and Laura came out. I caught her as she fell, and her eye patch came off revealing a golden eye underneath. Then something happened I guess he had nanites and the close proximity caused them to communicate or something. And have dealt with enough craziness in this one fight then my entire life, I just went with it.
"Why are you so strong" it was laura's voice.
"Never really thought about it" I replied honnestly "I would say training, motivation and a will to push forward."
"What kind of motivation?"
I thought about this.
"To protect those I care about, it's actually what drove through the ARK conflict, all that fighting just so I could see them again…and get the rest of my brothers off the ARK."
"I see…" she said thoughtfully "then I will help you protect them to."
Before I could figure out what that means we came back to the real world and I was holding an unconscious Laura bridal style. "You know I was expecting there to be an explosion."
"Welcome back to the world boss" said Kazuma "You spaced out for a few minutes, also about the explosions, I'm about to do something so whatever you do not look behind you."
"What?" I asked, wondering what he was planning
"Just don't look behind you." He said taking out his phone. "also put on a serious face." I did as I was told. He took out a remote detonator and pulled the trigger.
BOOM
Something exploded behind me but as Kazuma wanted I did not turn around.
"Alright got it!" said Kazuma lowering his phone.
"So what was the point of all that?" I asked, he smirked and walked towards and showed me a picture he took with his phone of me holding Laura with a large fiery explosion in the background with me having my serious fighting face on, along with some grit from being knocked around so much. It kind of looked like an ad for an action movie. "Okay, I admit that's pretty awesome."
"Right?" he said with a grin.
We brought Laura back to her classmates and went back to our little staging area changing back into our normal clothes which basically repurposed Resistance clothes. We also found out that the nano-machines in our bodies can't be removed without killing us. So this means we probably going to be recruited into some military at some point in our future. Not like we can do anything else, I have literally tried to get into several career types but nothing I was extraordinarily good at, and we have it public that we are from the ARK Resistance that we are so good at fighting we can go toe to toe with an I.S., if that isn't an advertisement for any military to come and recruit us I don't know what is. Well we got our checks and left.
General POV
"Hey boss," said Kazuma as he and Ichika exited the testing facility, the I.S. academy students close behind. "You know I could really get into this fighting and getting paid."
"So you want to be mercenary?" Ichika Asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Sure why not?" said Kazuma "and you could be in it to, we could even train the rest of the crew to fight too, I mean come one who wouldn't want to hire fighters that can defeat an I.S.?"
"Yeah you got a point." Said Ichika "But I'm pretty sure that the world powers won't let us go just like that, with our skills and now advanced technology we could be a threat if we got recruited by anti-establishment groups."
"Well it's an option." Said Kazuma "So what are we going to do for the rest of the day?" it was only about one in the afternoon so that left the day pretty open.
"let see, we have a hundred thousand dollars between us, we have friends and I'm pretty freaking hungry in tired." said Ichika summing things, then getting this grin "Kazuma gather the Crew! We got a crap load of money so tonight we are going to feast like kings!"
"Chinese buffet style?" asked Kazuma already on his phone.
"You know it!" said ichika giving a thumbs up, with this talk you wouldn't guess they are hyper lethal child soldiers with dark and bloody pasts. But before any planning for the party another explosion landed in front of them revealing a large black I.S. bearing a great resemblance to the one Ichika fought down at the harbor. The I.S. academy students stepped back in surprise and fear knowing more than most, the capabilities of an I.S.. the two child soldiers on the other hand had a look of an annoyance. They haven't even moved from there spot or stance when they were talking about their plans.
"Hey Kazuma." Said Ichika in an annoyed tone.
"Yes boss." Said Kazuma in a similar tone.
"There's an I.S. in front of us" said Ichika
"That there is boss."
"You know I'm really tired of fighting I.S. today."
"Same here."
"Then this thing comes down and is probably going to try and kill us."
"Probably."
"So let's just cut loose."
"Ruthless time?"
"Ruthless time." Said Ichika, they both materialized their swords in anticipation, their demeanor became a little colder even. "Chifuyu-nee get everyone to a safe distance we'll take care of this."
"Are you crazy!?" yelled Chifuyu with a hint of concern "I know you can handle yourselves but these girls have I.S.'s that can make this a little easier. Don't go risking your life needlessly!"
"You may have had a point." said Ichika his tone "But those I.S.'s are currently out of power or damaged thanks to us, and even if you did have one undamaged aren't there laws prohibiting use?" Chifuyu was silenced at her usually friendly younger brothers demeanor and the points he raised couldn't be argued.
"Alright." She relented "But be careful." The class retreated away from the soon to be battlefield known as the test center parking lot. They watched from a distance as the I.S. fired pink beams at the two teens who dodged and evaded. They were seemingly untouchable. That's when they went on the offensive. When one of them attacked other joined no words or commands were given they just did. When they attacked they were relentless not giving the machine which towered above them a chance to strike back. First the shields came down then they cut off the legs then the arms finally decapitating the machine. They then ran from it as the I.S. glowed and exploded. The two looked back on the fight, cold emotionless facing watching it. the whole fight took less than a minute
The one thought among the personal I.S. users was this 'They were holding back when they fought us!'
So update after a long ass time, these guys test out high powered weapons, fight another mysterious I.S. which is seriously outmatched with these two.
Next chapter is going to be Ichika conversing with Female cast, and there thoughts on how he's changed.
