Chapter 7
The Whitey Durham Fieldhouse of Tree Hill High School was packed to the brim with Ravens fans dressed in white and blue. Jamie was standing next to his uncle Lucas and father on the sidelines as the basketball boys were warming up. Jude, dressed in his uniform with a white warm up on over top, was nervously shooting threes from the point. He smiled when he saw Lydia lead the cheer team in. Feeling a little more confident with her present, he took the ball to the basketball, jumping up and slamming down a dunk. The crowd cheered as Jude hung off the basket for a minute, before falling down in front of Lydia.
"Good luck," She smiled, pulling him close to her for a quick kiss.
"Baker, stop sucking my sister's face and get over here!" Jamie called from the bench, waving the rookie over. Lydia smiled and winked at her boyfriend as he ran off.
"Damn, I would kill to be you right now," Sawyer nudged her cousin's side. "I never thought I'd say this but this Jude is sexy when he's playing basketball."
"Hell yeah he is," Lydia smirked as Jude was smiling at her while his coaches were talking.
"Look at my precious little cheerleaders!" Brooke came up behind the girls, wrapping her arms around both of their necks. "God you two look just like me and P. Sawyer in high school."
"Your Aunt Brooke is feeling a little sentimental today," Peyton explained with a laugh. "Try not to kill the team today, okay Sawy?"
"No promises Mom," Sawyer said through gritted teeth.
"Keep your cousin in line, baby," Haley smiled at her daughter, kissing her cheek, being careful not to smudge her Ravens tattoo.
"Will do Mom," Lydia promised, waving to her mom and aunts as they made their way to the stands.
"I swear, those three think they are still in high school," Sawyer shook her head with a laugh as she watched her mom and aunts take their seats directly behind the Ravens bench, exchanging hugs and kisses with Nathan, Lucas, and Jamie as they prepared for the game to start. Lydia focused her attention on the entrance when she saw Julian enter the gym, video camera in hand to capture his son's first varsity start. He grinned and waved at the girls, who waved back, before he joined his wife in the stands. Davis entered the gym right behind his father, making a beeline towards his best friend.
"So?" Davis asked Lydia anxiously, referring to his script he had asked her to read earlier in the day.
"I haven't read it yet," Lydia confessed, earning a groan from Davis. "I'm sorry; it's been a crazy day. But I'm glad to see you came to support your brother."
"Yeah yeah Mom made me come. I probably would have felt like a bad brother if I wasn't here," Davis rolled his eyes, glancing at his parents, who were snapping pictures of his twin standing on the sidelines about to be announced. "See you at Tric later."
"Save me a dance," Lydia winked at her boyfriend's brother as he headed to join his family in the crowd. Lydia couldn't contain her giggle as Brooke ordered Davis to pose with his brother for a picture. The twins threw their arms around each other's shoulders and smiled for a picture.
"Good luck, try not to piss off the uncles," Davis laughed, hitting his brother's back.
"Keep Mom's big mouth quiet, alright?" Jude asked of his brother. "She can get quite critical during my games and I really can't deal with that tonight."
"I'll try," Davis grinned, joining his parents back in the crowd. He hugged both his aunts before sitting down next to his father.
"So I hear you finished your first script, that's exciting news!" Haley exclaimed. "What's it about?"
"It's a loooveee story," Brooke cooed, nudging her son's side. "I just wonder who the lucky girl is."
"Mom!" Davis exclaimed, obviously embarrassed by his mother's glimpse into his personal life through his writing. "I knew I should have told Dad not to show you."
"Oh calm down baby, it's really great," Brooke assured her son. "He's got a knack for the writing, must have gotten that from his Uncle Lucas."
"I'm sure Luke would love to read it," Peyton added. "If you're ready to let people read it, I mean."
"He's one of the few people I actually want to read it," Davis's face lit up at the mention of his literary mentor and uncle's name.
"Luke should feel lucky; this kid's got a lockdown on this thing. The only person besides me and Brooke who get to read it is Lydia." Julian said proudly.
"What? My kid gets to read it but your very own godmother doesn't?" Haley scoffed. "I thought I was your favorite aunt?"
"Hopefully you will all get to see it someday," Davis grinned. He watched as Lydia and Sawyer instructed their team as the seconds to game time started to wind down.
"Ugh why did no one warn me Chris Keller was back in town? I am showing way too much cleavage to deal with his pervy ass right now." Brooke moaned.
"He found me Jonah Munson and it's his first show tonight, plus he's singing the national anthem." Peyton explained, watching as Chris and Jonah entered the gym. Jonah made a quick dart over to the cheerleaders, specifically Sawyer. She smiled as he whispered something in her ear before kissing her quickly.
"Um honey, why is that punk you just signed kissing our daughter?" Lucas approached his wife with anger in his eyes.
"No wonder she got him to do whatever she wanted," Peyton mumbled with a sigh.
