The wind was gentle today, lightly brushing against the pale green grass of the Earth. There were very few white puffy clouds lolling by lazily in the bright blue sky. The leaves of the trees rustled only lightly, a sound that was barely audible.
In the distance, up on that towering hill, Hohenzollern castle was visible against the sky and clouds.
Gilbert tilted his head, his eyes half-lidded, staring in that direction. They ran along every tower and point of the roof. He leaned back in the grass, laying on his back and propped up on his elbows.
Under the sunlight, the ex-nation's skin and hair shone more than the average human's did, but more susceptible to burns. Gilbert did not let that threat stop him from donning knee length black shorts and a dark grey shirt with his flag's bird designed across the front. His sunglasses lay discarded on the grass beside his hip.
Now, staring out at the castle he had not been inside for many years, Gilbert let out a small sigh. It was one of those rare moments when he was completely calm, content to just sprawl here and let his mind wander wherever it so pleased.
After all, he deserved this time.
He wanted to reflect over everything, and finally look back on it all without the feelings of anger, frustration, or remorse. Yes, he did miss the past, when he was a powerful kingdom on top of the world, rampaging around with the air that nothing would ever bring him down. But he was here now, and nothing terrible was happening. If anything, right now was so much easier and safe, he knew he should be valuing the peace.
Gilbert looked up into the sky, squinting a little. He knew his father was up there, watching down over him. He had been an ever so stern man, always yelling at Gilbert, and arguing with him, trying to keep the wandering child on the right path. But Gilbert remembered good times with his father. He had always kept a close eye on the little boy, coming to his rescue the moment Gilbert was in danger. He could have very easily let Gilbert get taken away and killed.
A few times, Gilbert had even caused a small smile to appear on his father's face, accompanied by a slight chuckle. Germania may have been disappointed in how his son's appearance turned out, putting him in such danger during that time period. But Gilbert knew he had made him proud.
Now Ludwig was grown and off, the country of Germany. Ludwig had turned out smart, strategic, and genuinely caring of his friends. He has manners and is respectful. Gilbert smiled a bit at the thought. He had raised Ludwig well, and was proud of the man his little brother had become.
Gilbert shifted around in the grass, moving onto his stomach, back to propping up on his elbows so he could look at the grand castle again.
It was the year 2014. It had been roughly two-hundred-and-twenty-eight years since Gilbert last wandered down the halls of Hohenzollern. He remembered scampering after Old Fritz in those halls, laughing with him and chatting.
Ludwig offered the idea of taking one of those tours through the castle, so Gilbert could go in it again. But Gilbert had denied.
It would just seem wrong. Like, he was not supposed to be there anymore. Without Old Fritz, Gilbert would feel as if something as off. It was best to let the past lie untouched.
Gilbird hopped around beside Gilbert, lightly pecking his pale hand with his tiny beak, reminding the human that he was there. Gilbert let a small smile slip onto his face and used his index finger to pet the bird's head softly.
As the wind picked up a little bit, Gilbert stood up, his clothes blowing back against his body some. His bangs pushed aside, no longer covering his eyes. Gilbird fluttered up to perch on Gilbert's shoulder.
Gilbert began walking down the side of the hill, picking up his pace as he descended until he was flat out running, laughing against the wind blowing on him. He did not stop running when he reached the bottom, enjoying the huge rush of energy he had been granted today.
As the ex-nation ran, he let himself slip into the feelings of happiness and freedom.
He was no longer being held down by the chains of regret at losing the most important part of his long life, and even though it still hurt, and probably always would, it was done and over. All he had to do now was make sure no one forgot about Prussia and what importance it had in uniting all of the Germanic states into one. His name would be in the history textbooks and people would learn about him a little bit at a time.
After all, it was being forgotten that scared Gilbert the most. But he would not let that happen.
Prussia's history would live on, he was certain of that.
For now, though, all the Prussian wanted to do was run. Run with a growing smile on his handsome face and the essence of awesomeness following along with him.
It's done! Wow, I hope I did not have too many chapters. I wanted to end it with Prussia just being... happy, really. After all he has gone through, he could use happiness. :)
Well. Any final comments or suggestions to fix? Thanks guys! It has been fun. I'll be posting more up here too soon. Until then, don't forget the Kingdom of Prussia and stay awesome!
