Jimmy wondered if she did the right thing letting Zevran join them. The man was a constant headache with his chattering and teasing. For a while he had focused on only her, vowing his eternal gratitude and massages while making sly comments about her body. It took Sten and Alistair threatening him to get him to leave her alone. Fen had merely threatened to bite off his manhood when the elf tried to get on his good side.
That left poor Leliana and Morrigan, ocassionally Alistair, to deal with him. The two women threatened him but it didn't faze him. Instead, it seemed to encourage him to try harder. Even with his life threatened he flirted and teased, making inappropriate comments.
"Zevran will you shut up for once?" Jimmy snapped, glaring at the elf. "Your constant comments and remarks are getting annoying. I'm surprised nobody tried to kill you before we met with how you act."
"Ah many have tried lovely goddess," he drawled. "But I was always one step ahead of them. Many women enjoy my flattery and some men. Are Fereldeans so dull they do not enjoy compliments?"
"In moderation as any sane person would," she grumbled. "Over doing it makes such compliments worthless no matter how much you try. Take a hint and focus on something else besides getting funky, there is more to life like singing or enjoying the quiet."
"'Getting funky?'" he questioned, frowning at her. "What does that mean?"
"It means what you are doing, trying to do the bed dance. I might be young but I'm not stupid, I know how babies are made. Don't you have any other hobbies?"
"Ah yes, I also enjoy killing people. It is a sense of accomplishment killing someone without getting caught or killed yourself. So invigorating, makes you feel alive."
"Alright, any hobbies besides killing and sex? Normal ones like writing, dancing, bird watching?"
"Sadly no. Unless making poison counts. I do enjoy crafting deadly poisons. Does reciting poetry count?"
"Only if such poems don't revolve around sex and I guess making poison does kinda count as a hobby as long as you don't test them out on us. Seriously though, do you do anything that doesn't involve scandal? You must have had a strange childhood."
"My childhood involved be raised in a whole house and then being sold to the Crows, and for a good price I am told." Jimmy stared at him in horror. "Oh do not look at me like that. It wasn't as bad as it sounds. I was lucky and such is the way of life for some. Not all are as lucky as you. I am guessing you had a good childhood?"
"Not really. My childhood involved running away from an orphanage at a young age and growing up on the streets. Luckily I ran into a group of kids also living on the streets and we grouped up for survival. Being alone often meant death." Fen gave a slight coughing, glancing up at her. "Anyways, we eventually were taken in by some people who trained us how to survive and help better our country. Living on the streets honed those skills better than any school and I got lucky enough to be sent off to find new countries. Unluckily our ship got caught in a storm and Fen and I ended up here with no idea where home is."
"I apologize. Your childhood was not better than mine but you survived no? At least you can claim that."
"Yep. I'm alive and have met some interesting people."
Everyone grew quiet, walking along the path. The lake that the Circle resided in came into view before long. A bridge spanned the lake going to the tower with the middle destroyed. Next to it was a small dock and a building with a few shacks that looked like they held goods. A few people wandered around, chattering softly as they approached the place.
Laughter came from the building along with shouts. A few men stumbled out, leaning on each other for balance while they laughter. They went around the shacks towards a few small houses that sat a small distance away. One man fell down and his buddies stood laughing, pointing at their fellow drunk as he tried to get back to his feet.
"Sounds like they are having fun," Jimmy muttered while she looked around. "This place really smells like fish. Yuck."
"Should we go inside?" Alistair asked nodding at the building that was obviously the bar. "Maybe get some supplies if they have any, see what the local news is."
"I don't think we will get many answers there buddy," Jimmy sighed.
"Jimmy is right," Leliana said. "It will be mostly filled with drunken fools and I'm sure we won't want any of their supplies. I think we should head to the tower as soon as possible."
"The bard is right," Sten rumbled.
"I'm not going into that place," Morrigan sniffed, her arms crossed against her chest. "That place is a prison. I can practicality smell the stench of despair from here."
"You don't have to go Morrigan," Jimmy said. "You can stay here with the drunks who will probably try to grope you and have to beat them away with your fancy stick before you start to scream from irritation."
"When you put it that way. I'm going with. Despair smells much better than stale ale and I'd rather deal with Templars than drunks, especially if they are as foolish as Alistair."
"Hey," Alistair began to whine but Jimmy cut him off.
"Let's go see what the boat man charges to cross," she said cheerfully. "I hope it's not two copper bits or else I will swim across."
"Why would you swim if it's only two coppers?" Zevran asked curiously. "That sounds rather cheap to me."
"You guys wouldn't understand," she replied with a wave of her hand while Fen snickered softly. "Let's just go."
They slowly made their way down the dock. The view was pretty amazing and Jimmy kept stopping to stare. Never had she seen such a large body of water in real life. The water was so blue and bright, shiny like a well polished mirror. Fen growled and pushed her every time she paused, causing her to scowl at him. Finally they made it to the dock. A man with bright plate armor stood there scowling.
"Halt," he yelled. "No one is to cross to the tower, I'm here to make sure of that."
"Why?" Jimmy asked, eyeing the man. He had to be a Templar. She wondered why he wore all that armor. What if he fell into the lake?
"It's Knight Commander Gregoir's orders," he said loudly with his chest puffed out. "No one is crossing while I'm here."
"Why?" she asked again, ignoring the disapproving look Fen gave her.
"Because I m to stop anyone from crossing."
"Why?"
"What do you mean why?"
"Why?"
The templar stared at her for a few moments, blinking with mild confusion. Alistair coughed and nudged her side, muttering softly that she should show him the treaties.
"Geez everyone wants to ruin my fun," she complained but pulled out the treaties. "Ahem, we are Grey Wardens seeking the aid f the Tower of Magi to help stop the Blight. We need to get across and speak to the First Enchanter. Does it help we are also trying to get help to save the Arl of Redcliffe?"
"Let me see those papers," the Templar growled, snatching them from her.
"If you drop them in the lake you are going after them," she drawled. "I got this big guy who can easily throw you in." Sten scowled at the Templar, causing him to keep a good grip on the treaties.
"It says here you are Grey Wardens but how do I know it's true?" he sniffed, handing them back. "For all I know they are fakes."
"Well there is the First Enchanter's stamp on it," she drawled right back. "Doesn't that count for anything?"
"I've got papers with a stamp on them too," he sniffed. "They say I am the Queen of Antiva."
"I've seen the Queen of Antiva before," Zevran snickered. "She was far more beautiful than you unless that much has changed the last time I was home."
"Be quiet peasant," the Templar said haughtily. "You know, I might just take you across if I can spend a little time with that dark haired beauty of your's."
"Morrigan?" Jimmy gasped, looking back at the witch. "Are you sure about that?"
"Oh let me play with the little Templar Jimmy," she drawled, smirking as she looked him up and down. "I could have a little fun with him."
"But you drained the blood out of the last one," Jimmy complained. Her comment made the poor man turn whiter than a sheet. "The one before that you strung up by his ankle bones and let squirrels play with his manly parts. That's just mean."
"Ehrm on second thought," the Templar said quickly before Morrigan could answer. "I'll just take you across, you being Grey Wardens and all with your treaties. The Knight Commander will understand."
"Good boy," Morrigan purred as they boarded the ship. Jimmy snorted, settling at the front of the boat with Fen at her side.
Traveling across a lake with three men in heavy armor was mildly nerve wracking. Jimmy kept Alistair and Sten on opposite sides of the boat, not eager to have it tip over. Zevran promised his undying devotion to save Leliana and Morrigan if they fell in. Both women merely snorted at him. Soon their attention was on Jimmy as she hung over the boat, spewing her guts into the water. Since she had never been on a boat before she didn't know she could get sea sick. It was a horrible feeling, especially with Fen softly snickering at her.
"Weren't you on a ship before?" Morrigan asked with a sniff. "Travelling across the ocean to discover new lands?"
"Yea but it was much bigger," Jimmy whined, her face a lovely shade of green in her opinion. "Bigger boats don't move as much and I didn't see the water as easily as I can now-hurf." She gagged as her stomach rebelled again, praying the boat would get there soon.
"We're almost there Grey Warden," the Templar said cheerfully, obviously enjoying it much to her irritation. "Just hang in a little longer."
"I hate him," she grumbled. "Morrigan can you turn him into a toad? Maybe push him into deep water with his stupid armor?"
"It'll be alright," Leliana crooned, brushing her hair back with a cool hand. "Don't be upset and just relax. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth."
"My nose smells like vomit," she grumbled but obeyed the bard.
Soon the were near the shore. Eagerly she leaped out, landing in knee deep water. Ignoring the chill she trudged through it. She'd rather be wet than be on the wretched boat any longer. The Templar snorted while the rest of the group got off on the dry dock. Sten and Alistair glared at him, causing the man to shut up quickly.
They gathered before the Tower, Jimmy staring up at in awe while Alistair grumbled about having to be back. She had seen large buildings before like the castle at Redcliffe and the sky scrapers in her old world but never did they invoke such awe and wonder. The high she looked, the smaller the windows became as if they were preventing people from leaping out. A shudder went up her spine at that thought.
"Well we came all this way," Alistair said, shifting his feet. "Might as well go in."
"Your right," Jimmy murmured still staring at the Tower. "I have a bad feeling though, like this isn't going to be good."
"Nonsense," Zevran chuckled. "This is a Tower of Magi, nothing bad happens here. The Templars stop bad things before they happen, right?"
"Yes," Leliana said. "The Chantry entrusts the Towers' defense to their Templars and they are trained to handle any situation. It will be fine."
Jimmy shrugged, glancing down at Fen who's hackles were standing straight up. He looked up at her, giving a soft shake of his head. That made her groan softly. Trust the wolf to be the only one to believe her that something bad might be happening. Straightening her back she strode over to the door. With a grunt she pushed it open. What she saw made her stand and gape while a loud voice roared angrily.
"Who in the bloody damnation are you?" the voice roared. "By the Maker, get in here! Do you have the Right of Annulment?"
"The Right of wha?" she asked, dazed at the sight before her as they all walked in, her companions just as shocked. Wounded men and women lined the room they entered, the bodies of the dead laying in neat rows with cloth over their faces.
A stern looking man in much flasher armor than the other Templar strode forward, fury filling his face. Jimmy stared up at him, blinking in surprise with Alistair staring at her side. The man shouted at them but she barely heard him. It looked as if hell came to the surface and she wasn't looking forward to cleaning up it's mess.
