Chapter 8 The Attack

After some time Yuki calmed down and pulled away.
"Sorry." She said embarrassed and rubbed the back of her neck with her hand.
I just sat there and stared at her for a bit before replying:" No problem….and…thank you. It was a long time since I was hugged like that."

She smiled sheepishly at me and nodded before standing up.
I didn't see Zero as he stood up, but suddenly he was behind her and nodded at me.
I smiled softly at them. 'Who would have thought?"

Suddenly Cross clapped and stood up.
"Why don't you all go to bed? It was a long day for all of us.", he said and began to collect our tea cups.
We looked at each other and shrugged.
Zero and Yuki decided that they would sleep at the chairman's so we headed upstairs.
I told them good night and went to my room.
I needed some time for myself.
It was such a crazy day and I just needed some time alone to process it all.

I lay down on my bed and stared at the celling.
My mind was going back to the confrontation between Kaname and them. It seemed like he really didn't know what I was talking about. He looked so shocked.
But was he really? I couldn't seem to get that doubt out of my mind.
'What if he really didn't know?' I thought hopeful.
As I realized what I had thought I groaned in frustration.
I was driving myself crazy.

I stood up and walked to the window.
The moon was full and shining down at Cross Academy. It was a beautiful sight to behold.
I don't know how long I stood there and stared out of the window but it must have been a while because the moon had wandered across the sky.
It should be dawn soon. I smiled.
Dawn was my favorite time. It was such a beautiful sight to watch the sun rise.
Suddenly I yawned and decided it would be the best to sleep before I needed to get up for classes.
I walked to my bed and laid down so I could stare out of my window.
I watched the sun rise as my eyes slowly slid shut and I drifted into a dreamless sleep.

After what felt like seconds I heard a strange pounding.
I sat up sleeply and looked around my room. Yawning I rubbed my eye and sighed.
The pounding came from my door.
Just as I wanted to get up and open the door, it flew open and revealed…..a smiling Chairman.
"Good morning, Shin-kun!", he said cheerfully as he walked into the room.
I had to hold back a sigh as I felt a headache blossoming.
Tiredly I got up and greeted him: "Good morning Chairman. I hope you had a pleasant night."
The chairman only nodded and brushed it aside. "Of course, of course. Don't you worry about it! I came to see if you are already up. Breakfast is ready and you have school in half an hour."
Confused I looked at the clock on the wall and really I had only half an hour left.
I turned back to the chairman and nodded. "I will be downstairs shortly."
He only smiled cheerfully and danced out of the room.
I shook my head and allowed a little smile. "Crazy guy!"
I made myself ready and walked downstairs and into the living room.
As I entered I saw that Yuki and Zero were already there.

"Good morning.", was all I said as I walked to a chair beside Zero and sat down.
He only nodded in my direction and continued to eat. Yuki smiled at me and replied:" Good morning! Did you sleep well?"
I only nodded at her and took the muesli and gave some of it into the bowl in front of me with milk.
We sat there and ate in silence. It was really comfortable.
After finishing our breakfast we stood and walked to the school building together.
I couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy as I walked across the school ground.
I was nervous that I would see Kaname somewhere.
Yuki seemed not to notice anything strange about my behavior as I only nodded to her and watched our surroundings, but Zero noticed and also watched carefully.
As we entered the classroom and I finally took my seat I relaxed myself a bit.
The teacher came into the room and began the lesson.

Time seemed to fly by when you concentrated on something.
It was already the last lesson of the day.
I currently sat beside a sleeping Zero directly behind an equally sleeping Yuki.
I must admit I found myself amused as I watched the teacher at the front throwing dark glares at Yuki and Zero.
As I watched them a little while longer the teacher seemed to get more and more frustrated.
And just when he decided to open to his mouth and give them a detention the bell rings.
I chuckled and started to pack my stuff when Yuki and Zero decided to wake up.
I threw Zero an amused look and stood up.
"I'm going back to the chairman."
He yawned and nodded.
Yuki seemed to have heard me because she turned around and looked at me.
"I wanted to ask you if you could go into town with me. I need to buy some ingredients for dinner."
I tipped my head to the side and thought about it. "It wouldn't hurt to spend some time with my sister."
Decided I looked at her and said: "Ok, but don't you need to guard the …night class?"
"Yes but if we go now we will be back before the sun goes down. And should it take longer then there is always Zero."
At that I smiled amused at Zero who scowled back at me.
"Ok then let's go!"
With that we went out of the door waving back at a moody Zero.
We walked into town and Yuki told all about herself, how she ended up at the chairman's and then about Zero and the night class.
I listened and told her a bit about myself.
I was surprised how easily it was to talk to her.
When we came into town I let her lead the way to a supermarket and watched her as she decided what she would need for dinner.

After we finished buying food we decided to take a walk through the town and look a bit.
It was really relaxing to just walk into different shops and to look around.
We laughed and joked around. I couldn't remember the last time I had so much fun.

"Come on Shin we should return to the Academy. It's getting dark and I still need to cook.", told me Yuki as it was slowly approaching 5.
So we made our way back but suddenly I got this feeling as if we were being watched.
I shrugged it off and moved closer to Yuki.
I laid my arm, which wasn't holding our ingredients, around her shoulder and pulled her forward so that we walked faster.
Yuki looked at me confused and when she saw the look on my face it turned into a worried frown.
"Just walk normal and talk. And when I tell you to run, you run." , I whispered to her and threw a glance behind us.
I didn't see anyone but I felt their stare.
We kept on walking but nobody said a word and I nearly let out a sigh of relief as I saw the gate of Chross Academy appear.
Only a few meters now and then we would be safe.
And just as that thought crossed my mind I heard it.
The crack of a twig to my right and a man came into focus.
I stopped and looked at him. He had thinly black hair and blood red eyes. His clothes were torn and dirty with blood.
Yuki beside me gasped in horror as she saw him.
That was all it took to set the Level e off.
"RUN!" I shouted and shoved her to the gate. She would be safe when she crossed the gate. She would be in his territory and not even a level e would be that stupid.
With that in mind I lunged at him. I had to stall him till Yuki was safe.
I danced around him. Coming into reach and when he would try to lung at me I would draw back.
Out of my eyes I saw as Yuki ran to the gate and just as she was about to cross the border she stopped.
What was that girl thinking!
I was so distracted for a moment that I didn't see the attack coming.
I felt his arm impale itself into my stomach and thrown to the ground.
I coughed and felt blood drip down my chin.
I heard a scream and saw Yuki run at the level e with an anti-vampire weapon in her hand.
She swung it and connected it painfully with the man.
He was thrown off me and sailed through the air and landed in the forest.
"Have you lost your mind?! Go back to the gate!" I growled at her as I stood up uncertainly.
That attack took a lot out of me.
She only stared at me for a moment before grabbing my arm and pulled me into the direction of the gate.
But we only took three steps and then I heard the beast approaching. Again.
I threw myself in front of her and blocked his attack.
I growled under my breath as I felt my weak defense. It seemed like I was weaker than I thought.
Yuki made to take a step forward but I hissed at her. "Go back to that fucking gate or I swear to the grave of my parents that I will kill you myself."

She gulped as she saw my anger. I know that she only wanted to help but I would be stronger if I didn't have to worry about her safety.
With a final growl I threw that monster back and pushed Yuki to the gate. Again.
Finally she decided something and ran to the gate.
I gave a sigh of relief and turned to the man.
Just as I turned my head I felt his fist impact with my face.
I flew back a few meters and hissed in pain.
"Shit."

But I had no time to focus on my pain than the level e was already standing above me.
"Fuck. Why is he so fast…..something is definitively wrong here."
I tried to fight him off but that little bastard was too strong. It was unbelievable. I was a pureblood dam it!
So I did the only logic thing and decided to make a break for it.
With all that I have got I shoved him off me and ran like that the devil himself was chasing me to the school gate.
I could see Yuki standing in the entry way watching me.
She held out a hand for me and just when I was about to take it with a relieved smile on my lips I felt something bore itself into my back.
I watched as horror overtook her face as I screamed and was thrown back.
I impacted hard with the ground and couldn't seem to get up.
I watched as the beast drew nearer and I desperately crawled away from him.
Looking around and praying to find something to defend myself but I found nothing and in the next second I felt fangs tear into my neck.
I screwed my eyes shut and screamed with all that I have got: "KANAME!"
