Paul POV
Willow was quiet most of the drive. She sat on my lap staring out of the car window, watching the green blur of the forest outside. I held her tightly, my arms wrapping around her waist protectively. My wolf didn't like my brothers being so close to my mate, especially when most of them were unmated themselves.
She's so tiny; her head just about reached my chin, even with her sitting on my lap, and her small frame tucks perfectly into my chest, like she was made to be there. Her black cat was proudly sat on top of her, looking at me with her big yellow eyes; if I didn't know any better I would think she was glaring at me.
Willow and I had a lot to talk about when we got back to la push; about what I am; what she claims to be; why there was a cat on her lap giving me the evil eyes. And most importantly; what's going to happen to us. I was so confused, just letting instinct take over. I hadn't had time to think anything through. I just knew I couldn't leave her in that place. But, what happens now?
Rachel had said she was scared of men, but she seemed fine with me. Although I could tell being in the car with the other guys was making her nervous. Her little body shaking before she fell asleep in my arms. Would she choose to live with Rachel because of this? No, I couldn't allow that.
But, what if, until now, she had been doing the same as me; relying on instinct? And when she thinks things through she chooses that she doesn't want to be with me? What if she was only with me to get herself out? What if, because she's not on her meds, she turns insane and starts running around with tin foil on her head screaming 'The aliens are coming! The aliens are coming!'?
What do I do? I needed to talk to Sam, he would know what I should do. But no matter what he says, I can't let her leave me. I can't. The wolf wouldn't allow it. No matter how much I hate imprinting, I know what the others meant; once you have imprinted you can never go back. I would never leave her, even if she wanted me to, I would just wait in the shadows, following her wherever she went, watch her life from afar until I died.
I will never leave her side.
The closer we got to Sam's house, down on the muddy road, the more nervous I became. What if she didn't like it? What if she didn't want to stay here? What would Sam say?
"Welcome to La Push, Crazy" I whispered in her ear, breathing the scent of her clean hair, and waking her in the process
"W-whose house is this?" she asked nervously. She was so cute when she stuttered.
"Sam's, my Alpha" I whispered, opening the door and stepping out, carrying her with me.
"W-What are we doing here?" she whispered so quietly I struggled to hear her.
"Shhh, it's okay," I comforted her. "We just need to talk to Sam about what happened. He won't hurt you, none of us will. If they do,- or even try- I will make it so that they never even dare to look you in the eyes again." I growled the last part, a warning to my pack members as they got out of their cars.
"Promise?" she inquired. She's too cute.
"I promise. Now what's this with you always asking me to promise things?" I wondered, not that I minded, I actually enjoyed that little quirk of hers.
"J-j-just want to make sure you mean everything" Willow whispered, looking into my eyes. Her blue gems glistened with hope.
"I mean everything I say to you, Crazy." I replied with a sure smile.
"What's with you calling me Crazy?" She joked, her beautiful face lighting up with humour and joy. She was breath taking.
"Well, I did just break you out of a mental hospital… so I assume there is something crazy in that head of yours… plus, your my crazy." I said placing her legs down so they lightly touch the gravel path, her cat jumping down and hissing at me, baring its fangs.
"Rhubarb, please don't hiss at people. It's rude." my Crazy whispered. Bending down, breaking the hold I had on her sides, Willow stroked the black cat until it was purring, pushing her head into my mates hand. "That's better" she whispered.
"Willow-"
"I'll explain everything later." Willow insisted, looking me in the eyes over her shoulder, begging me to agree.
"Promise?" I joked, with a sly grin on my face.
"Promise." she replied a small smile on her's as well.
"Will you too stop making googly eyes at each other and get your asses in here!" Quil's annoying voice rang out from the entrance of the house, otherwise known as the big red door, breaking our moment. I growled loudly at him, making him whimper and run back into the house with his tail in between his legs. Figuratively, of course. This time.
"We should go in." I told Willow, gently. I held my hand out for her so she could stand up easier. She gently put her warm hand into mine and squeezed as she pulled herself up.
I lead her into the small house towards the kitchen where I knew the rest of the pack was. Before we entered I looked down at her to make sure she was okay with this. She nodded in affirmation, so I took a deep breath and opened the door into the kitchen. Most of the pack was there, though a few were out, patrolling no doubt. Sam was next to Emily by the oven and from what I could smell, was taking a tray of cookies out- chocolate chip, hopefully.
"Paul." Sam greeted me, his voice low and dark; he was not happy with me.
"Sam." I replied in a clipped tone, standing in front of Willow protectively.
"So this is her?" he asked, though it seemed more like a statement than anything.
"Yes, this is Willow."
Sam stepped away from Emily and slowly walked towards us. I could feel willow shaking from behind me, her hands gripped the back of my shirt tightly.
"Welcome the the pack Willow!" Sam said cheerfully, completely the opposite to he had been acting for the past few minutes. The pack broke into a roaring laughter at my dumfound expression. "It's going to great finally having someone who can put Paul in his place!" Sam exclaimed and smiled at her Willow before holding his hand out for her to shake. His actions had me growling at Sam. No one touches my imprint!
"Paul," Willow whispered "It's okay." She said before placing her hand in Sam's quickly before pulling it back and snuggling into my back more. I turned so I was hold her around the waist and she tucked her head into my shoulder. My wolf felt like purring from the contact. But I was around the guys, so I refrained.
"Aww the 'Big Bad' Paul is finally tamed" The soon to be dead man, also known as Quil, laughed. At least, before I sent him a death glare; then he shut up pretty fast.
"Quil, shut up," Sam growled for me. "Now we have some details about this we need to discus." Sam said before he walked over to the circle table and sat down in his usual spot. I pulled Willow with me and sat down on the seat closes the door, and pulled her into my lap.
"First things first. The living arrangements." Sam started.
"She can stay with me." I growled.
Sam ignored me and carried on "Willow, if you want, Emily and I have a spare room you can use until you are more comfortable with Paul and wish to move in with him."
"She is staying with me." I growled.
"I-I-I-I'd l-l-like t-to-o stay with Paul p-p-please" she mumbled nervously from where her head was in my shoulder. She flinched after she finished talking. I rubbed my hand up and down her back, trying to calm her.
"If that is what you'd like then that is fine, just remember there is always a room for you here." Sam said gently, causing me to growl.
"Paul, calm down." He growled. "Good, now let's continue-"
He was interrupted by the black cat that jumped onto the table and started making it's way over to willow and I before settling onto her lap.
"Why is there a cat here?" Sam asked slowly, confusion clear on his face and in his voice.
"S-she's mine." Willow whispered, stroking her cat's head.
"Right." Sam said sending a confused look at me. I just shrugged my shoulders. I still had no idea why she had a cat. "Why do you have a cat, Willow?"
"She's all I have left." My mate answered sadly. I wrapped my arms around her tighter. She had me now.
"What do you mean "Shes all you have left"?" sam questioned.
This obviously upset her as she started to bend in on herself; curing up on my lap; holding Rhubarb tight to her chest. I growled at Sam for asking a question that hurt her. No one hurts my mate!
"You don't have to answer that now." I told to her comfortingly, trying to calm her down while glaring daggers at Sam.
"I-I-I'm s-sorry" she whispered quietly.
"It's okay... it's okay" I whispered over and over again, rocking her back and forth, trying to calm her down.
After a moment I heard Sam clear his thought. "Its been a long day. How about Emily can go get Willow a change of clothes and then we'll go to Paul's house and get a room set up for her there?"
"That sounds better" I growled, still holding onto Willow.
"I'll go grab her something, she looks around my size" Emily said walking up to Sam and gave him a kiss on the check "But Paul, if she is staying with you, you have to be the perfect gentleman. If I hear one thing about you mistreating her, I will have your balls served on a silver platter for my breakfast." Emily said glaring at me
"I would never mistreat her!" I growled back.
"We'll see." She gave me a hard look. "I'll go get her a bag."
"Are you okay?" I whispered into Willows beautiful blonde hair.
"I'm fine." she replied quietly, still looking down.
"It's going to be okay, im going to look after you now. You won't be alone again. I won't leave you." I tried to reassure her. Doing anything to make her feel more comfortable. But she only noded.
"Okay, I think this will be enough for now." Emily's voice called, coming down the stairs. "Sam, why don't you go with Paul to help get Willow's room ready. I'll help Willow get out of those old clothes and into something more comfortable." She suggested.
"Okay, we'll take my car." Sam ordered.
We arrived at my- small- house around seven o'clock. We had stayed at Emily's a little longer than anticipated since she wanted to get to know willow (even after I complained to her) and we ended up having dinner there. Willows face as she tried one of Emily's homemade burgers was the best thing ever, you'd think the girl had never had a good burger before. She ended up eating two burgers and two chicken drumsticks. If I hadn't known any better, I'd say she had been starved by how fast she was eating. I loved seeing her happy like that, though she still looked tense and a little scared. But she was happy and I was getting to know her better.
I opened the front door to the small house. I hadn't been here in so long. There was dust everywhere, and a few broken pictures scattered on the ground from the last time I'd gotten angry. The house was a wreck. No wonder I didn't stay here much anymore.
"I know it looks bad now, Willow, but I swear I'll get it cleaned up for you."
"It's fine." She whispered.
"We have a lot of work to do." Sam started. "But we can start tomorrow; it's late. Get some rest you two, its been a long day for the both of you."
"I'll help Willow settle into her room." Emily said, enforcing that we would be in separate rooms. Sam had told me early that Willow wasn't ready for a relationship, and she just needed a friend.
"It's upstairs, first one on the right. Unless you don't like it then we can swap rooms!" I said quickly, scratching the back of my neck.
"I'm sure it'll be fine for now." Emily said softly, before leading Willow- and her cat- away. This was the first time she had been out of my sight since the imprint happened, and it hurt. It hurt like a part of me went with her, slowly being ripped away. But I guess I'd have to get use to it now. It's not like we could be together every second of every day.
"Look dude, don't worry about it." Sam started, noticing my attitude. "The imprint will make everything between you two easier. I could see that at dinner, she was nervous; but when she held your hand, she looked braver, not completely fine, but definitely less apprehensive. Just let things take their natural course." Sam said with a advisory smile., clapping his hand on my shoulder
"Go get your woman and leave." I joked, knocking his arm off my shoulder before going to say goodnight to my Willow. My mate.
Willow was just about to walk out of her room when I spotted her. She was dressed in pink cotton pyjamas, her dark blonde hair down. Her big blue eyes met my immediately. She looked so beautiful.
"Hi." She whispered quietly.
"Hey." I replied, walking up the rest of the stairs to stand in front of her. "You look nice." I said in awe as a blush spread across her pale cheeks.
"I-I-I just wanted to say goodnight. And thank you." She whispered appreciatively.
"It's my pleasure. I would do anything for you." I replied "Goodnight Willow. My room is the one next to yours; if you need anything, I'll be there for you." I said gently touching her cheek, it was so soft.
"Goodnight Paul." she whispered, blushing again. I had to force myself to walk away. I wanted to stay there, to just hold her, nothing bad. Just hold my mate. But she wasn't ready for that yet. Maybe one day she would be, but not yet.
It was a little while later when I was lying down in my too-small-for-me bed, when I heard a tiny tap on my door. At first I thought I'd imagined it but then it resounded again. I pulled myself up off the bed and opened the door only to see my little angel standing there, looking terrified.
"What's wrong Willow?" I asked quickly.
"N-n-nothing." She whispered. "I-I-I'm just scared."
"Of what?" I asked considerately. Whatever it was scaring my mate was going to get it.
"That this is all a dream. That I'm going to wake up and be back there." She started to shake, so I pulled her into my arms whispering things to her like, "It's okay" and "It's not a dream" until she calmed down.
"Can I stay with you tonight?" Willow asked in a whisper.
"Of course." I opened my door wider and walked her into my room before closing the door again, but not before the cat darted in after us.
We slowly crawled into my bed but she stayed as far away as she could get from me while still on the mattress. I smiled at her before gripping her around the waist and pulled her to me so her small form was against mine. I felt her breathe out and relax against my chest until she fell asleep in my arms. I fell asleep a little later watching my Crazy sleep, and it was the best sleep I'd had in my life.
So this is what imprinting is really like.
