It was well past Harry's bedtime when the two of them floo'd home. The duo had ended up staying throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Harry had been having such a good time that neither Sirius nor Molly could bear to see it end. Sirius carried his already sleeping boy upstairs and laid him on his bed. Carefully removing the glasses from Harry's face, he quickly removed the small shirt and jeans and replaced them with a t-shirt and a pair of sleeping shorts. Just as he was pulling the covers up over Harry, the boy stirred and opened his eyes. "Daddy?"
"Shh Pup, it's okay. Go back to sleep." He placed a gentle kiss on Harry's forehead, "See you in the morning."
"Night Daddy."
Sirius left the room and crossed the hall to his own, quietly readied for bed himself. He had greatly enjoyed the day as much as Harry had, spending some time outside with the children running around and chasing everyone. At one point, he had seen Molly standing in the doorway shaking her head at his antics. He had merely laughed and tickled the child in his arms unmercifully.
Breakfast was late that next morning, Harry sat at the table happily eating his oatmeal infused with plenty of brown sugar, eggs and toast. "What are we gonna do today, Daddy?"
"Well, Pup," Sirius picked up his breakfast dishes and walked over to the sink, "We are going to get you registered for school and go shopping for whatever you may need."
"Oh." Harry looked back down to his meal. He remembered going to school when he lived with the Dursley's and it wasn't a pleasant experience.
"Something wrong, Puppy?"
He shrugged, "I wasn't allowed to do good in school. Teacher's thought I was stupid but I wasn't!"
Sirius knelt down by Harry's chair, "Son, what do you mean?"
"Dudley was the stupid one! He didn't know anything! But if I got better grades than he did, I was in trouble. So I had to stop. Please Daddy, I don't wanna go back to school!"
Sirius gathered his boy in his arms and sat in the chair, "Oh Pup! I'm so sorry you had to go through that. But I promise you, this school will be very different. You won't have to worry about anything like that and you can just do the very best that you can!"
Harry nodded, "Okay."
"Besides that, it won't be anything like your last school. I promise." He hugged the child tightly and placed a kiss on the top of his head. "Now...on to another subject. Your birthday is coming up. What would you like to do?"
Harry looked up at him with confusion, "You mean I get to have a present?"
"Oh Harry, you get to have lots of presents and if you like, we can even have a party! Whatcha think?"
The boys green eyes lit up with excitement, a party all for him! "Yeah! Let's have Ron and his family over and Moony!"
"Sounds like a great idea, Pup!" Sirius ruffled his unruly black hair. "Now, if you're finished eating, go get dressed. If we have time, and you are a good boy, maybe we will stop by Diagon Alley when we are finished with our errands."
The trip to the local primary school that Molly had told him about was relatively quick and Sirius would receive Harry's class information in August. He was also given the information on where he could purchase Harry's uniforms. They were given a tour of the school, however, and Harry was delighted by the library and the playground.
Soon they were entering the store in downtown London that the lady had described to him. Coming to a stop in front of a counter where he found a receptionist, who was currently on a muggle telephone with a customer. Waiting patiently, he glanced down to his side to find Harry dancing. "Pup, whats the matter?"
"Uh...nothing."
Frowning Sirius knelt down, "Harry. Tell me."
"Really Dad-"
"Harry James!" Sirius scolded quietly, "Do not lie to me!"
Harry's eyes flew wide open at the use of his middle name. "I gotta go, Daddy."
Letting out a frustrated breath, he ruffled the boy's black hair. "Why didn't you just say that, Pup?"
Harry shrugged as Sirius scooped him up, "Excuse me? Do you have a public loo my son could use?"
"Of course, Sir! Right through there, on the left." The receptionist pointed them to the back corner of the store.

The measurements for Harry's uniforms didn't take nearly as long as they thought it would and soon they were on their way to the Leaky Cauldron for some lunch. Taking a seat at a corner table, Sirius picked up the menu. Harry jumped when the chair he sat down in suddenly adjusted in height so that he could reach the table properly.
Not having much experience in eating at a restaurant, Harry was busy looking around at all the different witches and wizards who were happily partaking in their meals and drinks.
"What would you like to have, Pup?" Sirius asked without looking up, when he received no answer he tried again, "Harry?"
Snapping out of his reverie at the sound of his name, curious green eyes turned to meet amused grey ones. "Huh?"
Sirius chuckled, "I asked you what you wanted to eat."
"Oh. Um...what do they have?"
"Well let's see hear...they have fish'n'chips, they have Shepard's pie, hot ham and cheese sandwiches, all sorts of soups."
"May I please have fish'n'chips?"
"Of course you may, young sir!" Sirius laughed.
Just then a waiter came over to take their orders. "What can I get for you gentlemen today?"
"Ah, good afternoon Marcus! We shall have the fish'n'chips and two orders of butter beer, please."
"We will have that out to you in short order!"
After they finished lunch they wandered through Diagon Alley looking at all the different shops. Sirius taking note of the things that made Harry's eyes light up with joy and making a plan to come back at a later date to purchase them for his birthday. Currently, Harry was standing in front of the window to Magical Menagerie, peering at all the different animals.
"Would you like to go inside, Harry?"
"Can we?"
Scooping the boy up, making him giggle, "We sure can!"
Harry slowly walked up and down the aisles, looking at each animal. Some of them made him smile, some of them made him cringe in fright. There was one particular creature that he kept going back to, one he couldn't find the words to describe. All he knew was that it was a black and gray ball if fluff that purred when he reached in to pet her. He knew he shouldn't be trying to pet an animal that he didn't know but she looked so cute and harmless that he couldn't help himself.
"What did you find, Harry?"
Harry watched as Sirius knelt down next to him. "I don't know but she's cute!"
Peering into the cage, he smiled. "That, Pup, is a kneazle."
Harry turned to him with a confused frown on his face, "Kneazle?"
He nodded, "A very loyal animal who is very picky about who they trust, let alone allow someone to pet them. I believe this one is a cross between a kneazle and a cat. She seems to like you very much."
"I like her, too!"
"Then let's talk to the pet shop owner about taking her home!"
Green eyes widened with surprise, "Really?!"
"Yes, really!"
They headed home soon after, Patches snuggled safely inside a carrier until they reached their home. Harry carried a small back full of kneazle food, treats and a few toys. He was a very happy, albeit tired, boy as he and Sirius exited the fireplace that evening. Soon he was curled up on the couch with Patches purring next to him.
