Authors Notes: Sorry guys. For the late update. I would have updated this past weekend but I was at Daisho Con
Daisho Con: An anime/Comic convention hosted every year on the 3rd weekend of November.
And my Car Broke down on the high way on the way back home Saturday night, then then thanksgiving came. I have been totally zonked.
On with the story
Rhyme: Three little children on ice
Three little children sliding on the ice
upon a summer's day,
As it fell out, they all fell in,
the rest they ran away.
Oh, had these chidlren been at school,
Or sliding on dry ground,
Ten thousand pounds to one penny
They had not been drowned.
Ye Parents who have children dear,
And ye, too, who have none,
If you would keep them safe abroad
Pray keep them safe at home.
It was a normal day, boring to say the least. The only thing different about today is that I have to go to the stupid annual guardian meeting. Which I almost completely forgot about.
Just as the meeting was coming to a close, and the guardians were about to get out of their seats. The newest member of the guardians asks a shocking question.
"so, uh This has been bugging me for a while now, and I never really had a good time to ask, but how'd you guys become guardians?" Jack asked as he nervously Rubbed the Winter white hair at the back of his neck.
"what ya mean by that mate?" only bunny speaks what the others are thinking.
"You know, how'd you, erm. Die" jack looked at him with an expression that clearly said are you stupid what else would I mean.
"Jack,we didn't" Tooth and North saying at the same time. Curiosity lacing in norths, and Tooths dripping with worry.
A question mark and coffin formed above sandy's head. Asking the obvious question.
"yea I did" Jack said standing up.
"Jack, want to talk?" asked Santa
Jacks sad face instantly left and turned into a smile. "fallow me"
the big 5 were sitting around the fireplace sipping their hot beverages. North, sandy, and jack drinking hot cocoa topped with whipcream and a cherry placed ontop, finished with a light shavings of mint chocolate sprinkled top of the whip cream.
Tooth and Bunny however drinking warm applicable with a hint of cinimin mixed in. Tooth due to the whole sugar wrecking teeth thing, and bunny because he's a bunny and prefers fruits and vegetables above everything else.
it was a normal Thanksgiving day in the 1700s when my sister and I went Ice Stating.
My mom had her chores to do before Dad got back from hunting dinner.
Back then It was normal for women to stay home and do the cleaning, and due to being 14 years old my father told me that I'll soon have to help him work and pay for the house too. At the time I was a Shepherds boy for my families farm.
I was soon to be considered an adult and had my responsibilities to look after my sister. My mom was busy as it was, and she trusted me to look after her.
"be careful" My mother chimes to my younger sister and I.
"heh heh, we will" I say As mother closes the door behind her
My sister and I were having fun making figure eights together. Winter was our favorite season, well its obviously still mine. So even at a young age we were pretty good on Ice.
But that's when the ice cracked under my sister, I thought for sure she was going to fall in.
"its okay, its okay don't look down Just look at me." I say, looking directly at my sister making sure she's calm and okay is first priority
"Jack, I'm scared." She didn't need to say it, it was written in her eyes.
"I know, I know but you're gonna be alright. You're not gonna fall in. Uhh, hmm? Were gonna have a little fun instead." I say while searching for the shepherds staff I recently dropped. Thank goodness it was by my feet
I finally find the staff with my hands, and grasp it. It feels as if time has slowed down. It must be agonizing for my sister.
"Yes, you always play tricks" her voice is still laced with fear, but her eyes are finely starting to see a glimmer of hope. Perhaps acting as if everything is okay is making herbeleive that.
"he he, well not this time, I promise, I promise you, your going to be fine. Ya have to believe in me. Wanna play a game? Were going to play hop scotch like we play every day. Its as easy as one, wooah" My barefoot slips on the ice as I casually regain my balance
"Two, Three. Heh, alright. Now its your turn"
I start counting as my sister tries to walk on away from the cracked ice in her little ice skates.
"One"
"huh" she gasps as the Ice starts to crack a little more underneath her. By now I'm freaking out, there is no way I'm letting my sister fall in.
"that's it, that's it" I tell her for some reasurment. Letting her know everything will be okay.
"Two, Three." On her third step I catch her with my shepherds staph. Tripping in the process. Resulting in us both being flung in opposite directions.
We both laugh for a split moment.
Then I fall through, it becomes cold, painfully cold, dark. But I have no regrets.
I saved her, that's all that matters. She will mourn me but she'll grow old, and live a happy life.
That's what counts.
staring, why are they just staring at me. Its a bit awkward.
I lean back in my chair and cheerfully laugh.
"hey, everything happens for a reason"
"Jack, did you ever see her after that?" toothfairy asks.
"Well I never actually got watch her grow up, make sure she was happy. But I came across her on the streets once in a while. Obviously at the time I had no clue she was my sister. "
"oh jack"
"I said im fine, so stop worrying" his voice was harsh, rude, and irritated. But it was intended to be that way.
"I'm sure Jamie is waiting for you back home, yes?" Santa's voice boomed with enthusiasm. For reasons the other guardians could not understand, well every one but jack.
"Crap, I totally forgot, I'll see you guys later" smiling he made an top hat out of ice. Looking at each guardian individually, and in mid bow he gave a mocking smile to Sandy.
And with that he flew out the window to burgess.
Sorry it was short.
It was supervising hard to find inspiration for this story.
Now that I do have my inspiration will have a couple more posted up within the upcoming week or two.
